Knives arched an eyebrow and asked, "You're what?" Kale frowned and turned away.

"You heard me," she grumbled. The blonde-haired plant kept staring at her until he heard voices at the door. Kale's eyes widened and dashed to the kitchen entrance, Knives walking behind her. They both watched as the door opened and in came the two couples and Kale's twin.

"Oh, wow! Another set of twins! Isn't that funny, Meryl?" Milly said cheerfully, clapping her hands together. Meryl shook her head and allowed the men to stagger in with armloads of bags. Knives watched in amusement and Kale bit back a laugh as they fell to the ground at their girlfriends' feet.

Kale looked up to see her sister glowering at her. She arched an eyebrow when she stalked up to her and shook a finger in her face. Knives narrowed his eyes.

"What was with that little thing at the door?! Aren't you glad to see me? And who's this guy?" she asked, glaring at Knives who returned the look five times the evilness.

Kale grumbled, "How did you know I was here?" Kane looked hurt.

"I came down here when I learned about the fire and the attack. I'm so relieved that you're all right!" she went to engulf Kale in a hug when she backed up, accidentally backing into Knives.

She heard him grunt and she tilted her head back to see the man frowning at her. She gave a sheepish smile and Knives responded by give her a push.

"Kale, I never knew you had a sister! Let alone a twin!" Meryl said. Kale shook her head and pushed past her sister and out the front door, slamming it closed. Everyone exchanged shocked expressions except for Knives who only huffed and left the kitchen to go to his bedroom.

Knives sighed irritably as he sat down on the windowsill. No doubt Kale's sister was going to move in. Only, where would she sleep? Kale refused to go back into Milly's room, not the it was any of his concern, and if Kane were anything like her sister, she wouldn't go in the room either.

He leaned his head back against sill and closed his eyes. It was too chaotic to think right now. He started to slowly drift to sleep when he heard something outside. He frowned and opened an eye. It wasn't in his room nor in the house.

This time he opened both eyes and lifted his head. He looked down out of the window and saw someone standing behind a boulder. It was a man and he was staring intensely at something. Knives followed the man's gaze and found Kale sitting on her knees with her back to the boulder.

She was saying something as she was running her hands through the sand. She didn't have a clue that she was being watched. He narrowed his eyes as the man sidestepped from behind the boulder and smoothed back his hair then started a calm, confident stride toward her.

+++++

Kale had needed to get her mind off things, especially Kane, so she had gone outside. She had been sitting by the house when the most insane idea came to her.

She loved flowers. She loved them ever since her father had brought some home just for her. They were ridiculously expensive, but then again, flowers weren't a common sight to see.

What if she could try growing some? She knew it was going to be a lot of hard work just to grow a patch of small ones, but she didn't mind.

If she could grow one and keep it alive, then it was possible to grow more. She smiled and went around the house until she found a perfect spot. It was near Knives window, but it didn't matter.

She bent down and started running her fingers through the hot sand, allowing the grains to slide through her fingers. Knives was probably going to keep telling her that it wasn't possible to grow anything around here, that she would have to go to a more fertile place where there was actually soil and not sand.

She huffed. What did Knives know? Even if he was way more intelligent than she was, it didn't mean anything. His word didn't produce the right outcome. She wasn't going to let the evil Plant distract her from such a task that would need all of her attention.

She tensed when a shadow fell over her. She glanced over her shoulder and fought back a sigh of annoyance. It was Todd.

"Hey, baby girl. What's up?" he said casually with a smile. That very smile stole her heart away, along with every other girl that met him, including her sister.

Now that smile only made her cringe. How could she have ever fallen for the man? He was rude, selfish, and self-centered. Knives was just rude.

"Don't call me that," she growled, not bothering to stand or even look at him for that matter. Todd blushed and walked over to her side. He leaned up against the house with his hands in his pockets. He watched her shove her hands over and over again in the sand.

"What are you doing?" he asked.

"None of your business," she snapped. She really didn't want the man around her, but it really surprised her that she could be so nasty toward him. Knives's personality must be rubbing off on me. Damn.

Todd frowned and said, "Aw, c'mon. Seriously, what are you doing?" Kale sighed and glared up at him.

"How did you know I was here, Todd?" she asked, purposely avoiding the question.

"Word gets 'round quickly you know. I decided to drop by. Who lives here anyway?"

"The two men that were at the bar before it was destroyed, two women and a priest." Todd's eyes narrowed and he pushed himself from the house.

"Oh, you mean your boyfriends?" he said nastily. Kale jumped to her feet and shoved him back.

"Damnit, Todd, will you just shut up?! You sound so immature. They are not my boyfriends! One already has a girlfriend and the other hates me! What would it matter to you if either were, anyway? I'm not your girlfriend! I haven't been since before my father died!"

Todd scowled and looked at her with disgust, "Geez, Kale. What the hell is your problem? You were never this mean to me before!"

"You're my problem, Todd! People like you are my problem! One of the men inside this house is my problem! I have enough things to worry about then having to argue with a jealous ex-boyfriend who is envious over absolutely nothing!"

She pushed past him and headed for the back door when he suddenly gripped her arm and jerked her around. The force of the pull caused pain to shoot right up into the almost healed wound. She cried out and started clawing at his arm, trying to free herself.

"You asshole!" she screeched, jerking out of his grip and grasped her shoulder tightly. Todd looked at his arm; some scratches were deep and were starting to bleed.

"Jesus Christ, Kale! What the hell is the matter with you?!" Kale said nothing, but glared. Todd noticed she was holding her shoulder. He pointed at it and edged his way closer.

"What's wrong with your arm?"

"Todd, stay away from me. I mean it!"

"Not until I know why you're holding your arm like that!"

"I got shot! Now leave me alone!" Todd had her pinned against the house.

"Shot? Who the hell shot you?!" She stayed silent, but he gripper her chin between his thumb and index finger.

"Tell me!"

"I did," a voice came from behind. Kale looked over Todd's shoulder and was suddenly filled with relief as Knives stood calmly before her. She blinked in shock. Why was she feeling relieved? This was Knives.

"You! You shot this poor, defenseless woman?!" Todd shouted, shaking a finger at Kale to indicate whom he was referring to. Knives snorted and crossed his arms.

"She isn't as defenseless as you make her out to be," he said, looking at the long, slightly bleeding wounds on Todd's arm.

"Shut up! Why did you shoot her?!"

"None of your business, you vile creature."

"It is my business, you asshole!"

"I'm having a hard time resisting this sudden urge to rip out your heart and shove it down your throat. I'm giving you one chance to run before I decide to give in and indulge in such fun," he growled. Kale made a face and shook her head. Knives could be really disgusting sometimes.

Todd frowned and pointed a shaking finger at him, "You'll pay for this!" Then he turned tail and ran like some rabid beast was right on his heels. Kale considered the Plant a beast, but hardly rabid. The man was too cool and calm for his own good.

Knives raised an eyebrow when Kale began asking, "Thanks, I guess. Why did you come out and save me?"

"Save you? I would never save a human, woman or not. I would have left you to your own troubles, but it was obvious that you didn't know how annoyingly loud you were being. I couldn't nap with all your yelling," he said, knowing it was only half true.

He would have told them to shut up and fight elsewhere, but he had actually taken his time and scare off the man. He didn't know why he did it, but then he didn't want to really know. Kale narrowed her eyes and stuck her nose up in the air.

"Yeah, whatever, Knives. I'm thanking you anyway, so get over it. I got the impression that Todd wanted to steal me away and never come back. Lucky you decided to get off your butt and rescue me or it might have happened."

"Well now, if I had known he was going to do that, I would have gladly let him take you. You're very irritating and half the time I can't stand it."

"And you think everyone enjoys being around a guy with a personality like yours? Personally, I prefer to sleep the day away then hear you ramble on about killing all humans and taking over the world. Don't you get tired of talking about the same dream that will never come true? I sure as hell do!"

Kale was suddenly pinned against the house again, this time it was Knives, and he was a lot scarier than Todd was. The man was unpredictable in any type of situation, but she did know that he wasn't going to kill her. Why? Because he wouldn't have kissed her if he was planning to destroy her.

"Now listen here, human. You can thank my dear brother for your pathetic life. If he had just gone along with it, you wouldn't be standing here smarting off to me!" Kale smiled.

"Guess I should be thanking your brother then, huh?"

"You're very annoying. I should blow off your head," he hissed, his face very close to hers.

"Mmm, but you can't now can you? Don't worry, Knives. Unlike you, I'll grow old and die and then you won't have to think about me ever again."

"Until then I'll have to put up with your nonsense and I hate it," he pressed his right palm against the house next to her head. Their noses were touching and they could feel the warmth of each other's breath

"Don't you dare kiss me, Knives," she said, half smiling. Knives snorted.

"Never,"

"That's not what you said last night. The word didn't even happen last night."

"Ignorant human. You're despising," he mumbled.

"Stupid Plant. You're a horrible kisser. I don't want to have to go through that again," she lied, their mouths only an inch apart.

"Disrespecting vermin. I'm perfect so you lie."

"Perfect my ass. You probably practice in the mirror. That's what you probably do with all that time you spend in your room or do you do other things as well?" She smiled slyly, making Knives choke on his own spittle.

"You're disgusting! Just because you humans can't control your sexual urges, doesn't mean I can't!"

"It's obvious Vash can't. What do you say to that?" Knives smirked; his hand coming up to wrap around the front of her neck, squeezing slightly to indicate that he was in control at the moment.

"Vash may be my brother, but he is weak and idiotic. He has been living amongst you humans for so long that he has grown to act like them."

"Are you touching me, Master?" she asked, suddenly remember their deal and decided to play. Knives tightened his grip on her slender neck, but not too much to where she couldn't breathe.

"So I am. What are you going to about it?"

"Master wishes to get a butt whoopin'?" she said with an innocent face. Knives pulled back and laughed.

"Human, you couldn't hurt me if you tried." Kale bent her head and bit his hand, not too hard, but enough to shock him and make him let go.

"I can't huh? Well, blah to you. I can hurt you, maybe not physically, but maybe where your pride is concerned." Knives was about to say something when they heard a feminine voice call out for Kale. Knives quickly jumped away, putting a five-foot distance between them.

"Kale? Hey, there you are! Oh, hello Knives," Kane said, giving Knives a dreamy looking. Kale frowned and Knives scowled. The both turned away from Kane.

"Hey, c'mon, Kale! I'm trying to act nice here. Why are you so bitchy toward me?" Kale was about to say something when she noticed Knives giving her a curious look over his shoulder. She growled.

"I'd rather we talk somewhere alone." Knives just smirked at that. She sighed and brushed past her sister. Kane blinked and followed.

"Well, anyway, we have a problem," the twin grumbled.

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah. There's only one bed and the couch and I really don't want to sleep on the couch. Then again, I don't want to sleep in the same room with Milly and Wolfwood. It's just awkward, you know?" They stopped at the front door.

"I got it! We could move the bed into Knives's room! He has a pretty big bedroom," Kane said, smiling. Kale felt a pinch of anger and something else toward her sister. Why was she in Knives's room?

"Kane, you had no business sneaking around in other people's rooms!" she said, a little harsher than she originally intended.

"I couldn't help it. I was looking around the place! When I saw Knives leave his room I decided to sneak a peak. He has a nice room."

"Ugh, listen, you can move the bed into his room, but I'm not sleeping near that man," she said as she pushed open the door.

She was going act like nothing happened even though she could still feel the warmth from his hand on her neck and the pain from where Todd jerked her. She wasn't going to like Knives. She was going to hate him till the day she died.

Only she knew she was only fooling herself. After he had kissed her that night everything had changed. The idea that he was a cold, murderous bastard changed. The hating feelings she had toward him disappeared. The fact the she was in danger by someone who wanted her dead was washed away because she felt that with Knives around, nothing could harm her except for himself.

Nice work, Kale. You've really done it this time. Why hadn't you just pushed him away when he kissed you?

+++++++

Yes, I agree that this wasn't one of my strong chpts. There was actually no point in this one. It was more of an addition just to entertain. ^^ Yes, I got Knives way OOC. What can I say? I was in a dreamy mood and yes this story is going a bit too fast, but I dunno how to slow it down Xx.

Anyway, this happens to be one of my more popular stories (gag) and that I only need two more reviews (I'm going by my stats page and it says 98) to reach a 100 reviews (woo hoo!). So the next two people who review will be the first to be placed on the EXTRA ENTERTAINMENT page that will be added at the end of the fic.

What's that? It's a page for all the people that have at least posted one review on this fic. ^^ My Gengar has been a very bad pokémon lately and he needs to be punished!

Gengar: *rolls eyes*

So what I want from those who have reviewed or will review is to give me their idea for punishment. It can be anything!

Ex: Gengar should eat a can of worms!

Gengar: @@

^^ If you want to be on this page please send me your idea through mail. I really don't want to have to end up searching through all these reviews to pick you out. I end up deleting all the Bot mail cause it takes up space and all. ^^U

Anyway, if ya wanna be on the page jus email at my yahoo ---> demoncatismyname@yahoo.com

Also . . . Gengar!

Gengar: *rolls up a magazine and starts beating "Minyadagniriel" down until her whole body is buried except for her head*

*walks over and crouches down before her and flicks her nose* You're complaining. ^^ And no, I don't argue with my teacher. I'm actually the one who is the silent one and pays attention. You must be the annoying one who bugs your english teacher with your unwanted comments. >]
