Chapter Three: The Early Morning Visitor.
“Oh good no explanations needed. I know what you are and now you know what I am.” She leaned over until her face was inches away from his. “Now that I have your attention, we can have our little chat.” Kaname's eyes narrowed.
“What do you want?” She smiled.
“Ah good, I see you know it's not worth it to struggle. Let me return the favor and get to the point. I saw how you were with my sister, vampire.” Ren leaned down even farther until her lips were right next to his ear. “If you bite my sister and turn her into a vampire I will turn your life into a living hell,” she whispered. Her hand tightened threateningly around his neck. “Got that?” Kaname nodded. She looked him in the eyes for another moment and then she was gone. Kaname sat up and rubbed his neck. Standing up he noticed that the window was open and the curtains were blowing in the early morning breeze. He shut them and then went to his personal library.
He grabbed three books off the shelf and opened the first one, The History of Witches. He sighed knowing he would up most of the day reading these and he was already tired. But it had to be done since his knowledge of witches was limited.

Weeks passed and Kaname avoided Yuki more than usual. He knew that Ren's threat was very real. Witches, he had read, were very protective of those they loved beyond the point of obsessive. Compassionate, merciful hunters of vampires, they turned volatile the moment a threat was made to those they loved; having a vampire unusually attached to ones sister constituted as a threat.
Yuki at first regarded her newly found sister with mixed feelings but soon came to love her dearly. Ren never pushed or forced herself on her sister but was merely there when Yuki wished her to be. Still Yuki was puzzled by the aura of mystery surrounding her. Even more mysterious was how the night class acted around her.
They avoided her the best they could but Yuki often got an odd feeling that they were purposely avoiding her because they wanted to be around her. But this explanation made no sense so Yuki quickly dismissed it when it popped up.

Zero had his own theories about Yuki's sister and many of them were close to the truth. This was not surprising as Zero was a member of a renowned vampire hunting family and witches and hunters shared the commonality of profession. However their methods and strengths varied so wildly that they were rarely in contact let alone thought of as allies. Witches thought of the better good for all, including the vampire whereas the human hunters pointedly ignored that element. And so he watched Ren closely and carefully before one day deciding to confront her.
He found her sitting by a pool one afternoon staring at nothing. Her eyes snapped to his as she registered his approach and she watched while he leaned against the tree. But there was no surprise in her eyes as she turned back to stare at nothing
“You know why I'm here,” he asked, not really asking at all. She nodded her head. “Are you a…” he found it hard to say the word aloud. She turned her head and looked him in the eyes and nodded again. “Then what are you doing here?”
“Being with my sister, what else,”
“But what about hunting, what about your duties?” he persisted.
“This is more important than my duties,” she twisted the last word with disgust. Although Witches understood the need for human hunters, they still disapproved strongly of the methods. He shook his head and walked away.
“You're getting hungry,” she said. Zero stopped and turned around to stare at her but she continued to look out at nothing. Unnerved Zero turned around and walked away quickly this time. Running his hand through his hair he realized she was right.

At first he tried to conquer his hunger. He didn't want to feed on Yuki while her sister was here and so he pushed it farther and farther until he reached his limit and snapped. Then he was insatiable and half-crazed. He didn't mean to surprise Yuki in one of the back courtyards but when she was there it was all he could do not to jump on her right there and then.
“Please,” his voice was hoarse with need. He watched the emotions flit across her face, terror and then acceptance.
“Okay, lets go,” she said her voice falsely cheerful.
“I can't…I can't wait,” and on the word wait he had his teeth in her neck, feeling the blood pulsing through him. So intent was he that he didn't notice that they had an audience, and an angry one at that.
Kaname flexed his fingers at the scent of Yuki's blood. It filled him with a sick desire to kill Zero and drain Yuki. Only the years spent learning control held him back. It was hard, so hard watching his enemy drink her blood. He watched as Zero pulled his head away and leaned against Yuki's chest. His apologies angered Kaname but what angered him more was Yuki's acceptance. Not able to stand it anymore he ran back to the Moon dormitory.
