Chapter Four: Bloodlust and trust

He went out onto the balcony, hoping the night breeze would clear his head of those images. Kaname pressed his fists against the stone edge as hard as he could trying to block out the sweet scent of Yuki's blood. He felt himself shake with rage; rage at the uncontrollable bloodlust, rage at Zero for being able to quench his thirst with Yuki. Oh how he yearned for blood, live warm human blood.

“Relax,” a voice said behind him. He sneered silently in disgust as he recognized the speaker.

“What do you want witch,” he said through clenched teeth. He saw movement in the corner of his eye as she slide off one of the gigantic statues that framed the door.

“Your control is fraying,” she said. His anger soared at that comment and he relished the feeling. Some part of him realized what she said was true, as anger and bloodlust were a potent combination for a vampire.

“Take my blood,” He looked over at her in shock. Ren's dark eyes remained still with no fear in her face at all. He felt his composure slip, his anger receding into confusion.

“Why?” She sighed and pulled her hair over to one side of her head. Walking away she began to loosely braid it. She pulled herself up onto one of the statues, now at a perfect height for him to bite her.

“Several reasons,” she mused, opening the top buttons of her shirt and pulling it back to reveal the slender white column of her neck. Kaname's throat tightened at the sight. “With your control fraying as it is, you have two options: Drink blood now or continue to struggle until you beat it. If you go with the former you have two options again, drinking another vampire's blood, which will not satisfy you or drink a human's blood which, since you are a pure vampire will turn them into a vampire as well.” She began swinging her feet against the stone. “As a witch I cannot allow you drink a human's blood especially since the object of your frustration is my sister. And if you drink another vampire's blood or just try to beat your cravings, you will just get worse.”

Kaname shook his head at that. Ren looked at him seriously.

“Eventually you will snap, Kaname and I do not want to think of the massacre you will cause when that happens. So I offer my blood to you. I am a witch so I cannot be turned and I am a human so my blood is live and hot.” He was next to her side in a flash.

“It will hurt and your blood scent will carry and the other vampires will smell it. How do think they will respond when they know that I drank someone's blood but won't allow them to do the same?”

“The bite mark will heal the instant you draw your fangs away, as well you know. As for the pain I have been fed on before…it is trivial compared with the benefits.” He was angered by her flippant attitude. In flash he leaned forward, hold her neck in place with an iron grip.

“Is this what you want, huh little witch?” he hissed at her. Being so close to her he could feel her heart beat quickening. She nodded her head and felt her consciously relaxing her whole body. When he made a sound of surprise she answered,

“It hurts less if I don't tense up,” And when she put her arms around his head, he could hold out no more. Baring his fangs he sunk them deep into her neck.

Sweet hot blood coursed into his mouth filling him with ecstasy. It burned it's way through his body, making everything feel sweetly, painfully alive. He had heard her gasp and shudder as his fangs had pierced her flesh but she still remained relaxed as he fed on her. Kaname didn't know when the simple act of feeding turned into something more, but he soon became aware of his own arousal. He glutted himself on her blood, simultaneously feeling one hunger recede as another rose in its place. Ren's arms grew heavy on him and when her head fell forward, he stopped. Pulling away he noted that the bite mark did indeed heal right away allowing not even a particle to scent the night air. Her body lolled against him and he was filled with tender concern.

“Are you alright?” he asked gently leaning her back against his arm so he could see her face. Her head fell back before he supported it and he felt a new wave of concern. But he saw in the next second that her eyes were still open, although slightly unfocused.

“mmm” she said and he took that for assent.

“You need rest,” he said and then chuckled with amusement at the look on her face. Duh! it said plainly. Picking her up in his arms he was careful to support her head before taking her into his room and laying her on his bed. She fell asleep almost immediately but he made sure she was warm before leaving.

Kaname couldn't believe the change. He felt relaxed, contented in away that he had never felt before. He also felt a profound respect for the girl lying in on his bed. Compassion, he thought, was truly what drove a witch. One thing bothered him though, the arousal he had felt during the feeding. It was slow to fade away and he felt a nagging compulsion to go in there and sate himself in that way too. But being more tolerable than the bloodlust he had felt earlier he merely pushed it aside.

He was surprised when less than an hour later he heard movement from inside. He strode in expecting to find another vampire in the room but he didn't see anyone. Then he noticed the bed was empty. His hands clenched.

“Don't get pissy yet, I'm over here,” He turned to see her swaying against one of his armchairs. It was then that he noticed what she was wearing and the fading arousal came back full force. Her white shirt had become even more unbuttoned, revealing the swell of her breasts, which were now heaving from her recent exertion. She hadn't been wearing socks or shoes, so the only thing covering her lower half was her skirt. Her hair fell around her face in wild disarray and her skin was a papery white. She looked absolutely delicious and his body was responding to that. Ren, however, was oblivious.

“I think I may need some help getting back to my room,” she said wryly. Trying to cover his discomfort at his ever-increasing arousal he said with outrage,

“You're too weak to be gallivanting around right now,” She rolled her eyes.

“You're right…I should just stay in your room and sleep it off it your bed. That'll look fine to anyone to strolls in here,” she said sarcastically.

“My aren't we cranky,” he responded heatedly.

“Most people are when they lose half their volume of blood,” she snapped as her legs wobbled. He instantly regretted getting her riled up and was very solicitous when he picked her up and started carrying her. Ren stopped grumbling once they were outside and remained silent until they reached her room.

Kaname set her on the bed a little too quickly and that started her off again.

“Thank you your majesty. You can leave now,” she said sarcastically misinterpreting his action. Kaname didn't correct her though, wanting to get out of there as soon as possible. Holding in his arms did a number on him and he didn't want her to notice his very evident interest in something other than her blood. His last thought on leaving her bedroom was how quickly his opinion of her had changed.
