Chapter 4

The day was going by too quickly. Hitomi sighed and tugged at the end of the nice fitting gown that Dilandau had given her… out of his closet.

`This guy is definitely a cross-dresser! He has way too many girl's clothing… all revealing but still…'

The gown was white that faded into a nice emerald green at the bottom. It reached mid-thigh and hung loosely at the ends. It was a V-neck that showed a lot more cleavage than she would have liked but hey, this was Dilandau. That was to be expected. The sleeves hung off the shoulder and belled at the ends. At the V of the neckline, there was a nice green bow. All in all it was a beautiful dress.

She groaned and buried her face in her hands, "I was so not made for dresses! Where are my shorts! Well… at least I can run in this."

She waited at the dock with the guymelefs for Dilandau. He was going to leave her at the woods and let her make her way back to the castle on her own. And that would be it. It would be over. She would return having lost something precious she could never gain back. And she didn't regret it so much. The war would continue and she would have to become his enemy once more. But things would never be the same.

`I won't be able to do this like before… and everyone will notice the difference…'

She sighed and slightly jumped when something cold and solid wrapped gently around her waist. She looked down to see the metal claw from Dilandau's guymelef securely around her waist. It was time to go and here she thought she'd be able to ride with Dilandau!

She looked back at his guymelef and nodded her head. He went into flight mode and took off out into the clear blue sky. She took one last glance back at the Vione and saw the dragon slayers lined up watching as they disappeared into the foggy day.

They were riding pretty fast and the winds whipped her body as they rapidly descended to the upcoming castle. She started to shake with cold and tried to curl her body up to gain more heat. Not to mention the fact that the mist in the air was starting to condense on her skin making her somewhat damp and cold.

Dilandau slowed down and landed on the ground. Releasing her he opened up the guymelef chest to where he sat. Motioning to her with his head, she climbed in and situated herself in his lap. She straddled his waist and rested her head on his shoulder. She was freezing to his touch and she shook somewhat violently. Closing the breastplate caused her to push slightly against him and he sat further back to gain a little more room. He rubbed his hands up and down her arms to get her form to stop shaking and after a while her body warmed up and she stopped.

"Thank you…" She whispered against his neck and closed her eyes.

He changed into flight mode once more and took off into the skies. Their journey was quiet and short. Not so later on, Dilandau swore quietly and jetted straight up. "We've been spotted! Shit!"

"Dilandau! You bastard! Give Hitomi back!"

Hitomi tensed. `Van…'

"Dilandau… open the flap and I'll jump out. Van will catch me and then you can head back. He won't come after you…" She sat up and got ready to push out and back into the open skies.

"We're not high enough! Hold on!" He shot straight up.

Van followed with Escaflowne in tow, heading quickly after him. The skied seemed to clear up as they reached their desired height, "Now!" Dilandau shouted and opened the plate. Hitomi pushed back with her legs and shot straight back and out. Her eyes lingered on him as she fell gracefully down through the atmosphere. She was headed straight down, head first but she didn't scream or feel frightened in the least. She let her body relax completely as the winds rushed quickly past her form. A faint scream of her name registered through her ears as she continued to fall.

Van started to panic. He didn't know if her could reach her in time. She was going down so fast. He maneuvered Escaflowne into a nosedive and soon enough he was catching up but the ground was so close. He wouldn't make it in time. "Hitomi!" He screamed in fear as she came closer to her death.

Dilandau watched in horror as Van tried and failed to reach her falling figure. His mind screamed at him to do something so he did the first thing that came to mind. Powering up his metal claw just slightly, he shot it down at her. It zoomed through the air with a sharp noise as it pierced the silence. Sweat dripped down his forehead as he watched in horror as she continued to fall. The metal claw quickly wrapped around her body, mere seconds from impact with the ground. It gripped her waist tightly but he didn't care at the moment. Moving the claw, he set her down gently on the ground and retracted the metal weapon.

Van watched as her body was set down on the green grass, as he pulled Escaflowne up and back. Circling once, he landed next to the girl who sat up, looking at Dilandau's guymelef. He embraced her tightly in his arms before quickly pulling back. He started to question her right away, "Are you all right? What did they do to you? How did they get you? You've been gone for two days already! Everyone is worried about you! Did they hurt you? They'll pay…" And on he went with his ramblings as Hitomi sat in the grass, shocked that it was Dilandau who had saved her from impending death and not the one she has been so sure would.

She looked up and saw as Dilandau hung around for a second before taking off back in the direction of the Vione.

A/N: Sorry it's so short but I really didn't expect this to become a full-fledged story. Don't worry though, I have an idea but after it happens, I don't know where it'll go from there. We'll just have to see. If anyone wants to help me with this just e-mail me and I'll make sure to give you the file of the story and incorporate your name in the author thing or something like that. Thanks for reading. Please review.
