Chapter Three
The play was coming along fairly well, Yohji was surprised that so much talent could come from one mediocre travelling theater troupe. The actors were well diversed in their characters, the leading lady and man are astonishing. As well as the younger actors, but something about that redheaded actor bugged Yohji. The man is surely handsome enough but his attitude was clearly screaming'Look at me' as he performed on stage. Looking at the play handout Yohji saw the name Schuldig Mastermind, Hmm...well that proves he's not Japanese, probably German or something of the kind.
On stage Yohji focused back to the play and noticed that the scenery had changed from outdoor woodsy to that of a quiet tea room where five geishas were currently sitting in a half circle.
The leading lady was among them and she was currently in an argument with the leading man. The other geishas were sitting around her and were focused in on her argument, except for one.
One geisha looked slightly out of place, she seemed much taller even though she was sitting she still stood a head taller then all the other women on stage. She looked absolutely bored.
She kept looking around the crowd of spectators doing so discretely as possible, a few times she shifted in her seat and tried to pay attention to the play, but in the end she couldn't help but bring her attention elsewhere.
Yohji couldn't take his eyes off her, something about this actress had caught his attention. Besides being taller than all the other ladies, she had an almost feline look to her. Tall, graceful, slender, pale, wonderfully slanted almond shaped eyes and the most intense blue irises he's seen. A pert nose, pointed chin, long tapered fingers, too bad he couldn't really see her hair, the wig she had on was that of a customary geisha wig, strange hairdo and all.
As the play continued on Yohji kept an eye on his 'interesting' geisha actress. Watching her every movement, wondering what she had on under that kimono of hers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~
Aya was praying to every god in the book, asian and western alike, to let this play end soon!
His legs were killing him, being tucked underneath him in a tea ceremony style. His hands folded together on his lap, along with the other actresses, but unlike the other actresses he couldn't keep his mind on the play. This was one of the most boring roles he's played before and couldn't wait for it to end. If Sakura could only keep from catching every illness known to mankind, he wouldn't be here dressed up like a women sitting in an uncomfortable position in front of so many people.
Looking around Aya saw that more people had showed up this year than they had last year, in fact it looks as though the whole village might be here. Searching through the crowd Aya saw many faces he recognized and others that were new to him. One in particular seemed like he was out of place, his clothes and the manner in which he sat didn't look like that of more simple folk. He spoke of money and so did everything about him.
Aya took a closer look at the man, golden hair, honey colored skin, tall and slender, somewhat lanky, long hands and long slender fingers, his frame was slender but Aya could see he had muscles hidden underneath his formal kimono. The way this stranger sat was casual, relaxed in a way that made Aya envious. He wished he could sit like that. Turning back to the play he could see the scene was almost over, two more minutes to go. Glancing back to his mysterious stranger Aya could see that the man was engrossed in the play, continuing his observation of the man Aya noticed that he had the most gorgeous emerald green eyes he's ever seen.
Suddenly said green eyes looked straight at him. Emerald met violet. Aya's breath left him briefly, powerful green eyes staring right into his soul. Aya couldn't pull his eyes away, the intensity of those green eyes left him speechless and powerless to do nothing more than stare.
Wondering if the man knew what his gaze was doing to him, his lips turned slightly into an almost mocking smile and his eyes lightened mischivously and staring right at him, slowly mouthed the words 'caught you'.
Embarrassed at being caught, like a little kid caught looking in on his parents, Aya blushed and finally broke his eye contact. Turning back to the play at hand Aya realized the other geishas were getting up to follow Manx off stage, signaling the end of the scene. Getting up as swiftly as possible without doing something embarrassing, like tripping over his kimono, he quickly left the stage.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Well that was interesting, Yohji thought to himself as he descended the theather tent. Stepping out into the brisk night air Yohji pulled out one of his favourite western inventions from his pockets, something called a 'cigarette'. He pulled one stick from the little metal case he had them in and lazily put one to his lips and then struck a match, another western invention he liked rather well, and lit the end of the cigarette. Inhaling the delicious flavor of nicotine Yohji exhaled the smoke from his lungs expertly, letting the sensations tingle over his body.
Other people were exciting the theather tent and exclaiming how this was one of the troupes best perfomances ever. Yohji had to agree, the troupe was rather well talented. Some people said they were very happy that they were able to finally see a play and hoping that the troupe will allow them to see the next play they perform for free as well. Yohji couldn't help but smile at the comment wishing against all odds that he could be here next year and help them all over again. But that wasn't going to happen.
Inhaling another puff of his cigarette Yohji thought about the little geisha he caught looking at him. He smirked when he thought about how he made her blush when he mouthed out that he caught her staring at him. Exhaling the last bits of his cigarette Yohji dropped it onto the floor and ground it out under his heel. Laughter behind him caught his attention and he turned to look, he saw the man Farfarello laughing at something while he tried to bring down the theather tent in a rush. The other person with him made Yohji smile brighter, his little geisha was trying to help Farfarello bring down the tent, although he couldn't hear what they were saying they both had a smile on their faces.
Although she still had her costume on, the little actress had taken off her wig and revealed a head full of short and lush red hair with two little eartails that curl slightly around the edges of her face making her look even more beautiful. Yohji decided to offer his assistance and started to walk towards them when a sharp pain bit his side and he took a quick gasp of breath.
When it subsided almost immediately Yohji shrugged it off as nothing big, but when he took a few more steps the pain came back with a full force and hit Yohji hard. It looks like the infection in his kidneys was acting up or so it felt. Taking a deep breath Yohji found it hard to breathe, seeing as how he won't do any good for anybody, plus not wanting to be seen like this, Yohji headed back to his room.
Damn but walking hurt. Clutching his side Yohji retreated to his room at the inn, every step made his side hurt even more. The cigarette he had must have set off his infection, walking up the stairs of the inn was agonizingly painful. Crossing the threshold of his room, Yohji made way for his pills and quickly took two of them. Damn even swallowing hurt. The pain hit even harder making him double over clutching his side. Taking in as many breathes as he could as quickly as he could, Yohji dropped onto his futon and curled into himself. Sweat was cooling his skin and the brisk night air that came in through the small slightly opened window gave him goosebumps. He broke out into a cold sweat and his face paled.
Calming his breathing rate, Yohji took longer breathes now and he slowly unfurled himself. His irises were nothing but a thin ring around his enlarged pupils, his eyes glazed over and unfocused. The haze around his vision was collecting faster and his body was beginning to numb over. With a final blink, the haze veiled over everything and Yohji submitted himself into the cold darkness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~morning~
eighty-eighth day
Yohji descended down the stairs of the inn and proceeded into the kitchen to make his order of breakfast to Momoesan. After aquiring his jug of milk and plate of eggs, bread, rice, and meat, Yohji entered the tea room also used for eating in. He set himself at the end of the table facing the doors. He poured himself some milk into a porcelain cup and promptly drank it, nowadays milk seemed to settle his stomach very quickly and it also quenched his never ending thirst. Letting out a deep sigh, Yohji picked up his chopsticks and proceeded to eat his breakfast.
Today marks the eighty-eighth day countdown to the end of his life. Ever since Crawford told him he had three months to live minimum, that's how much Yohji is allowing himself to be truly alive. Anything after those three months is a plus day, meaning once he gets to day one, and lives, he'll start to count forward, day one will be back to back then day two, day three and so on. The day he was diagnosed was day ninety, yesterday was day eighty-nine, so today marks the eighty-eighth day.
Acknowledging that his stomach was going to behave this morning, Yohji continued to eat all of his breakfast. Maybe today he'll be able to keep it in his stomach.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aya quietly snuck out of the room he and Omi share, and made his way down stairs. Stetching his arms above his head he yawned and enjoyed all the cracks his back made to adjust itself for the day. Seeing how it's only dawn made Aya remember the little comment Ouka made about how he's up so early that he probably wakes the roosters up just so they can wake everyone else. He had to admit that it was a lame joke but it still made him smile. So what if he woke before the sun? It's just something Aya does naturally.
Arriving at the kitchen Aya ordered himself a pot of jasmine tea, some bread, and a small bowl of fruit. Exiting the kitchen and upon entering the tea room Aya noticed someone was already in there. Aya smiled a goodmorning smile until he saw who it was that was eating breakfast on the table.
Yohji currently wraped up in his thoughts didn't notice someone had entered until they took up seating across the table from him. Accustomed to tradition he was about to graciously offer a good morning until he looked up and saw it was his little geisha girl. Yohji smirked.
"Ohayo gozaimasu" Yohji greeted with a big smile.
Aya looked nervously at Yohji before answering with his greeting.
"Ohayo gozaimasu" Aya returned unable to keep eye contact with Yohji.
Yohji's eyes widened drastically. Kami-Sama his little geisha girl was a man! He was expecting a high pitched feminine voice, but what he got was a rich baritone. A man! A very beautiful, very exquisite, very elegant man with lush red hair and intense blu..no..violet eyes. Yes his eyes are not blue but an incomparible husky shade of violet that from far away looks like a deep blue. But by god the man was beautiful.
This was really getting interesting.
After no more was said Aya slowly glanced up to look at Yohji only to be caught again by those powerful green eyes. He must have made some sort of face because the man sitting across from him gave him that same smirk he did last night. That smirk that means 'caught you', again.
Aya only gave Yohji a small half smile before returning his gaze back upon his meal. Yohji couldn't keep his curiousity at bay any longer and needed to hear the other man speak again.
"My names Kudou Yohji, what's your name if I may ask?" Yohji asked trying to stir a conversation.
Aya only looked at Yohji and wondered if maybe he didn't recognize him as the fifth geisha he so unexpectedly locked gazes with the night before. Hoping to save himself the embarrassment by revealing such information by expression alone, he answered Yohji's question.
"My names Takatori Aya" Aya spoke solemnly.
"Aya, that's a beautiful name it suits you" Yohji commented, half lidding his eyes and turning his smile into one of a flirtatious nature.
Aya faltered slightly, what was this guy up to? Did he just say he was beautiful? Maybe this guy was still hung over from the night before...or something? Aya did the only thing he could do when stumped, he gave his appreciation.
"Thank you" Aya answered.
"You're welcome, say are you part of the Takatori Theathre Troupe?" Yohji asked all too innocently.
"Yes I am, my parents run the troupe"
"Oh so you must be an actor?"
Crap here goes.
"Yes, but only on occasion, I'm not one for large crowds." Aya answered, holding his cup of tea that was turning cold from neglect.
"So you were in the play last night right?" Yohji just loved to torture innocent people^_^.
"Umm... yes I was" Aya gulped, hell if this guy decided to make fun of him now, he was going to be wearing a nice hot pot of jasmine tea.
"So which character did you play?"
Dammit! He should have just slept in for once in his life. Why was this guy getting under his skin? Most times he wouldn't give the time of day to people that tried to make fun of him or embarrass him largely. But this guy...there's just something about this guy that keeps getting to him, and not knowing is beginning to frustrate the hell out of him.
Better to answer on his own terms than let Yohji get to him Aya gathered all his courage and experienced acting skills and allowed himself to answer.
"I played a geisha at last nights performance" he said, taking a deep breath he continued,
"I usually only play extra parts that are needed when we are short handed. Yesterday one of our girls came up with the flu and so we were in need of one more geisha to complete the scene. Since I'm the on..only one who fits the description and can pass as a women I put the costume on and portrayed the role." Aya exhaled, hoping that Yohji didn't catch his mistake. God why was that hard to admit?
Yohji caught the falter, wondering why this was such a big deal to Aya. Plenty of men portray women on stage, hell some women portray men on stage. If he was so embarrassed by this why continue? This might be harder than he thought, might as well get it over with.
"So that WAS you I saw staring at me last night?" Yohji teased him, giving an even bigger flirtatious smile.
"Ahh....I wasn't staring at you! I was just looking at the crowd and our eyes just met." Aya querried.
"So that wasn't a full five second stare we had that ended with you blushing away from me?" Yohji questioned with amusement.
"hn"
"I'm sorry what was that?"
"..."
"I'm sorry I still didn't catch that."
"It wasn't a full five seconds" Aya stated back, looking Yohji right in the eye.
"But you don't argue that you blushed away from me?" Yohji asked.
Aya opened his mouth only to close it again, stumped. Dammit!
"I don't blush"
"yes you do, you blushed then just as you're blushing now"
Damn his pale coloring! He hadn't even known that he was blushing. If this guy wasn't so gorgeous it would be easy to just brush him off.
"Oh..now you're even redder than before. Are you ill or just blushing harder?" Yohji asked scandalously flirtatious.
"umm....."
"Oh look at the sun, it's getting well into day and I have somewhere I must go" Yohji stated raising from his seat.
Aya also rised seeing as he was also raised traditionally. Yohji drank the last of his milk and started towards the door.
"Well Ayasan it was nice talking with you, I hope to see you again" Yohji commented.
Aya nodded in agreement, he wouldn't mind seeing Yohji again if only for small talk just like today.
Yohji was about to open the doors when he turned around one last time.
"Oh and Ayasan one more thing"
Aya looked up "what's that?" he asked.
"just this"
Yohji grabbed Aya by the waist and pulled him close to his warm body. He tilted Ayas chin with one hand and gently but hungrily pressed his lips to Ayas. Aya caught by the swift movement, stood frozen while Yohji proceeded to kiss him. Warm lips against him, Aya felt panic but also something he never felt before. Something he'd unknowingly been craving. Yohji's hand wormed its way down to gently squeeze Ayas posterior, his tongue pressing against Ayas lips. Pulling him closer so that their erections pressed against each other, Aya gasped and Yohji slipped his tongue into Ayas and kissed his breath away.
Ayas knees were about to give out, Yohji was delicious. Tasting of warm milk and something else, something strong and musky, something all too male. He didn't even know when he started to kiss Yohji back, until he heard or rather felt Yohji moan a little huskily. Aya had never felt so alive! Bringing his arms up to wrap around Yohjis neck he kept on kissing Yohji and even started to rub against him.
Yohji moaned pulling Aya even closer if that was possible, he'd nearly lost it when Aya started to rub against him. All he'd wanted was a goodbye kiss, but he'd never knew the man would taste so divine.
God if dosen't pull away now he's gonna have him right here right now!
Reluctantly he pulled away from Aya. Looking at the red haired beauty Yohji saw his face was flushed, his lips kiss bruised and his eyes were glazed and half lidded. God he was gorgeous!
"well that was something alright" Yohji whispered breathily.
"why did you do that?" Aya whispered.
"I just wanted to taste you, I never knew you would taste so good. But now I really must go before it gets any later, I have a long journey ahead and need to get the most of the day."
Pulling away completely Yohji gave Aya one last lingering kiss on the lips before turning and exiting the room.
Aya felt cold all of a sudden, wanting to get the warmth he'd felt when Yohji held him. What was happening to him? He'd just let a man kiss him and he let him walk away. That was his first real kiss and he let him walk away! Aya couldn't stand anymore, he needed to sit down his emotions were playing blitzball with him. Gah..he dosen't even have the energy to follow him and demand an explanation. 'I just wanted to taste you, I never knew you would taste so good.' Did he really mean it? What's going on and why does it feel like he just lost something so important to him?

"Umm... yes I was" Aya gulped, hell if this guy decided to make fun of him now, he was going to be wearing a nice hot pot of jasmine tea.
