Chapter Nineteen- Convergence

The partnership building was a cold and sterile structure even to look at.. In the moonlight, it was hauntingly very impersonal as it sat there. The eight story building was nothing but glass set back from a high chain link fence that surrounded it. It shouted only one thing loudly and clearly to the world... greed.

The building was still, as no motion could be seen. Only a couple of the floors seemed to have some lights on inside different rooms. It was a shadowy place, and not at all from just the darkness of the night, the feel was one of coldness and empty of all good that should be in the world..

A block down, two dark colored cars sat a few feet apart, hidden behind a clump of trees and a very large garbage bin. Shadows of figures told of people inside, sitting as motionless as the night itself.

In the one of the cars, Amon and Robin sat in silence. Amon was on the communicator as the young crafter waited.
“ You said you had some more information?” Asked the man.
“ Sure I did...” Said the voice of the computer lad over the earpiece in Amon’s ear. “ I pulled some street traffic video from around your few run ins from the Witches. Each time, a limo with the same licence tag was there, and they seemed to be watching everything unfold as the attacks commenced.”
“ Did you find out who’s limo it was?” Amon asked.
“ You know I did.” Said the lad’s voice, chuckling a little. “ It is registered to the Partnership group, more specifically the limo lurking was that of the unofficial head of them all...Ichiro Tawrai.”

Amon snuffed lightly, as the name came across clear.
“ Do you think it was him in that limo?” Amon said, as she looked at the sheet of paper he had with the pictures of the four partnership members on it.
“ Could not tell by the video stream I had, but I’d lay a bet on it.” The lad said. “ I also have a alert from SOLOMON too, seems a witch by the name of Harardi Kodi has entered Japan. He’s wanted in the US by our STN affiliates there for multiple contract killings, and a few they called simply ‘ Thrill kills’...” The lad stopped. “ I am sending you a picture of the Witch, so you can watch for him.”

The man just turned off his communicator after seeing the picture of a thin and very gaunt man with a wild mane of darkish brown hair and looked at the girl. She just nodded at the man.
“ You heard, and saw the picture?” he said, as the small printer unit built into the dashboard spit out the picture he had been sent.
“ I did.” She said, watching the picture emerge out of the dashboard.
“ Seems like they have an abundant resources for assassins for their dirty work.” He said flatly. “ It’s the money... you can get anything, as long as you have the money to pony up.”
“ What is next then?” She asked.
“ We wait, The information that Michael had sent me with the picture said that almost all of the calls were placed between one and three in the morning from the same place each time.” Said Amon, his voice reverting back to monotone ways.” He looked at his watch on his arm. “ It is just past one, and we will wait through four if need be.”
“ And if nothing?”
“ Then we might have to stay a few more nights in a row.” He said adding. “ All we can do is what we are doing.”

Robin sat back in the carseat, and fell silent. The man jut picked up a set of night vision binoculars and trained them on the Partnership building. It was still and barren of life through those looking glasses, but he had a hunch that might not be for very long..as long as they are very patient.

He surveyed building and the grounds, as a voice came over the intercom on his headset.
“ Anything yet?” Said Miho.
“ Nothing to report.” He said. “ We have time on our side here, just be ready. If we move, we will enter the compound using those hacked security codes Michael had gave us in or planning session this afternoon.”
“ Roger that.” The woman’s voice said. “ I already heard from Michael too, he said there was another witch in country.”
“ Hopefully we will Identify both of the witches that are in the country when he meets with the Partnership members...” He said. “ That way, we will have all the proof we need to go in.”
“Then we begin our operation?”
“ Yes.” He said, as the airwaves went dead soon after that.

Every hunter out then went all silent. All they could do now, was just to wait in the dark of the night time. Each car was now silent, as all of their patient was now being put to the test.

Ten after three came, the streets were absolutely empty in this part of town. The lights of the city center could be seen as a halo over the buildings that were around, reminding everyone that not everyone at night left for home. The two cars were just hidden still, each of the STN people were in their waiting mode, no speaking or anything. The tension was almost thick like pea soup, as each were on their seats, ready for anything.

Amon suddenly sat up in his seat rigidly, his eyes had caught a motion from just up the street. Robin snapped out of her thoughts, as she noticed the man move out of the corner of her eye.
“ What is it?” She asked, seeing the man’s face.
“ There seems to be some vehicles coming up the street towards us.” He said, as his tone held a little bit of a question mark in it, as he trained his night vision binoculars on the vehicles.
Robin turned to look out of the windshield of the car, spotting moving shadows coming from far up the street. The lamps on the roadway not giving away just yet who this might be at that moment, but clearly they were coming towards them. A minute past, and they slow moving autos were now closer

The vehicles were four long stretch limousines staying together like some high business convoy as they approached. They were not going very fast, as they made their way even closer with every passing tick of the clock. They all looked exactly alike, as the made their way through the dark streets like a winding snake in the grass.

The four limos turned into the gates of the partnership building, the gate area opened wide and they went in to the small compound right in front of the structure. As they parked, it seemed like they all barely fit into the small courtyard area, as the gates closed behind them.

Amon watched through the binoculars leaning forward in his seat. Robin sat silent, knowing that to, as anything at that moment would not illicit a response from the man. If there was anything going on, Amon would tell her what he found anyway. That was just how Amon was. She felt every muscle in her body tensing, as she was ready to move the second he said to.

Amon watched as people started to get out of the limos one by one. Aside from a couple of body guards, the four players in the ‘Partnership’ each stepped out of their respected cars. A tall thin man also got out of the limo with who he recognized as the leader, Mr. Tawrai. Instantly, the hunter knew that he was now seeing Mr. Kodi himself. The newly arrived witch was with the partnership.

Amon handed the spyglasses to the girl.
“ Look!” He said as he turned to look at the girl for a moment. “ Seems like our time has not been wasted after all.”
“ The Witch is with them? She asked.
“ The new one, not the other for some odd reason...” He informed back to the girl.

The young hunter looked through the eyepieces of the binoculars, as the man waited. She gasped, and looked over at the pictures on the console between their seats.
“ It’s them.” She said, as she heard someone else chime in through her ear piece.
“ I see that they all have arrived for their party.” Said the voice of Miho. “ It looks like they have all assembled now.”
“ Michael was right.” Haruto said also over the communication. “ Hail, Hail, the gangs all here.”

The young crafter suddenly gasped and handed the spyglasses over to her partner. She seemed to be sweating a little, something had unnerved the young girl greatly.
“ Look, Amon.” She just said
“ What is it?” He asked, taking the night glasses from Robin.
“ I think you have to look for yourself.” She said in a very thin voice, painted with shock. “ I think we may have to rethink some things.”
What the man saw through the binoculars made him actually grunt. Out of the last limo had emerged another figure, one that was all too familiar to him. The sight of this figure put a knot in his stomach immediately. It was Chief Kosaku that had gotten out of one of the Limos.

Their boss at the STN stood next to the limo, while the head of this gathering was handing a rather thick looking envelope to him The balding head of the STN-J just smirked with a devious grin and pocketed the package into his suit coat pocket right away. He walked a few steps, and the Chief shook the hand of the Witch, being very friendly to the man that was probably sent her to kill Robin... and anyone else that got in his way..

The hunter pulled the spyglasses away, and lowered them to his lap as the look of disbelief marched across his face.
“ He’s a part of it...” He said flatly. “ Goddamn Fuckin’ hell!!!”
“ I saw too, The chief seems have been payed off or somthin’...” Haruto commented with shock, his voice over the communication waves seeming tight.
“ Either way, it does explain certain things like how the witch knew where our hotel was.” Snapped Amon, his anger seething forth. “ He has sold out Robin... and every one of us at the same time.
“ What do we do now?” Asked the voice of Michael, who was still on the line.
“ I have a back up plan here...” He murmured to everyone, then fell quiet.

The airwaves went silent for a moment, as every STN member was just stunned at the break in loyalty of their boss. Each seemed to hunker into their own thoughts. It was clear what they had seen, and everything now was fitting together. They had been literally sold out.

Amon just took out his cellphone and dialed someone’s number. Robin watched as all he said to whoever was.
“Go!” He said flatly, then he hung it up right after his single word.

Robin looked at the man, as he put the cell away. She was going to ask who it was that he had phoned, but she did not get the chance.
“ Chief or not...We need to stop them... now! “ He spoke into his communicator, his voice showing the tightness. “ To start: Haruto and Karasuma, to the far side of the gate, Robin and I will flank the nearest.”
“ Copy that!” Said Karasuma and Haruto in stereo.

Robin did not know what quite was going to happen, but she knew that they had to do something. If she was going to be killed, she thought, it just might be in trying to stop them all... and the ORBO project from being reborn. She also knew the reality... they might have to kill the chief to save people.

Through the darkness, the hunters went to their assignments. They were veiled in the low light, and was not seen yet... which was perfect as they got to their places.

They could still see the people in the courtyard, as they all had seemed to be talking lowly together. Amon silently went to the key pad, and punched in a number Michael had given him. The gates began to slide open, as the others waited near him. As the opening got wide enough for them to pass, he looked up. Karasuma and Haruto were at the ready with their weapons.
“ Let’s go.” He said.

The four burst in to the open, as the people inside had just been alerted to something by their gate swinging open on its own. The chief of the STN and the four partnership men all slid behind some of the large bodyguards, as a group of four people suddenly appeared in the court yard.

The body guards had pulled out their weapons almost out of instinct, they fired upon the group, as their charges raced for nearby cover of the building’s overhang. Karasuma and Haruto fell to one knee and returned fire, as Amon did the same while shielding the young Robin.. The bodyguards fell, no match for the STN’s crack shots. Each of the bodyguards fell like dominos, causing chaos to ensue. The one who was the Witch suddenly stepped forward, amongst the turmoil of the situation.

The Witch stood his ground, and caught sight of the girl just behind Amon. He leered a evil smile as she recognized her right off.
“ I see the girl.” He said with a cackle, as his body began to shimmer with a bright light that lit the night up. “ My target comes to me... better for me.”

A blast of energy blew Amon and all of the others with him off of their feet like they were nothing. The power of the Witch was incredible, as it seemed to make them all feel as if their skin was being pulled right off of their bodies and their insides felt ready to explode out.

Even Amon was down, writhing in pain as the powers of the Witch were too fast and too strong for anyone to have gotten even one clear shot off. The group was rendered helpless in pain, as it had paralyzed each and every member of the STN team.

The Witch walked closer to the now fallen foursome, his eyes glowing with a bright red hue as he advanced on the STN people. He looked over at Chief Kosaku who was standing with the others from the partnership... he were there watching. The each of these men seemed pleased at how the battle was going, which made the witch smile boastfully, obviously the men were pleased with his work so far.

All of the partnership were watching, as their acquisition had gotten a clear upper hand on the people. The Witch regarded his employers with a smirk that was chilling.
“ I can finish this thing now, gentlemen....” He said, as the people that had hired him watched. “ And I did not have to search endlessly for this little bitch.”

Robin felt the skin all over her body pull and burn like if it was doused with acid, her heart feeling like it was literally being crushed inside of her chest. The pain was almost too much. She could not move, just like the others, as the Witch walked over to her as she lay helpless on the ground. The cold, clammy hand of fear gripped her, as she knew she could do nothing for herself, or her friends and her lover.

He squatted down right in front of the prone girl, looking int the girl face, his eyes still glowing with a shocking red color.
“ I will kill you first, girl... after all, I came all this way to do just that....” The witch said, smirking smugly. “ After that, young lady...I will get to have a bonus of killing your friends here as well.”
“ You will be payed handsomely for this, Mr. Kodi...” Called out the Head of the partnership.

The witch was seen flashing a sickening sort of smile, as he had heard the man’s every word. He rubbed his hands together in response to what he had heard.
“ Being able to kill...and getting payed more money to do it... I love my job..” He said, with a chortle of greed

The Witch’s body began to glow brightly, he was reading to deliver the final blast to the helpless girl. Robin tried to pray through her pain, her mind unable to focus enough to use her powers. The young huntress closed her eyes as the inevitable was near, totally helpless to stop this assassin. The partnership was getting exactly what they were wanting.

A single shot rang out, and the Witch suddenly staggered back a few steps and his glow had mysteriously vanished from him. Robin found herself being able to move once again, still feeling great pain sweeping through her from the attack. Scrambling to her feet, she took a quick glance to the side... wondering where the gunshot had came from as the others were all still down.

Just inside the opening in the gate, stood Nagira in the moon’s light. The thin man was standing there, a ORBO gun firmly clenched in his hand... and that told that he was the one who had shot the Witch. He kept his weapon bared and he saw the girl had finally reached her feet.
“ Robin... Now!!” He yelled at the girl “ Barbecue this son-of-a-bitch!!”

The girl turned to Witch quickly, knowing that some witches have recuperative powers even against ORBO. Robin’s green eyes held a flame, as she knew her chance to finish this was on her. She just smiled and nodded her head. With every ounce of willpower she had, she focused it all o the Witch.

Witch Kodi’s body exploded into flame that shot over ten feet into the darkened air The Witch fell to his knees, screaming out in pain as the girl’s powers engulfed him. The man was seen looking right at the girl, but his gaze through the flames now was lifeless. The man then pitched forwards on the pavement and was so earthly still as the flames danced and moved all over him.

Robin began to turn to deal with the Partnership and the STN traitor, when loud gunshot broke through the darkness. She flinched and turned away from the sound instinctively, but she was aware that there was something had moved right in front of her, blocking her ability to see where the shot had came from.

She found that Amon was there, standing in front of her. She could see him just standing there not even moving, then was horrified to see there was blood poring out of his chest as he looked right at her. He then slowly sank to the ground, as the girl reached out and tried in vain to catch him.
“ Amon!!!” She shouted, realizing just what had happened a she guided the man to the ground as softly as she could under his great weight.

She heard footsteps going away from her, and looked up. There was Chief Kosaku running away with a gun in his hand. Karasuma and Haruto had already secured the partnership members with handcuffs, but the chief was racing away. Nagira at her side already, and they both saw the short little man making a break for it..
“ I’ll tend to Amon’s injuries, just go get that bastard.” He insisted.

The girl sprang to her feet and was after the man, her body fueled by the anger of the man’s total betrayal of them... and for shooting of the man she loved. Her feet moved like they had wings, as she raced after the man. For the first time in her sixteen years, she felt the need for vengeance.

He had gotten out of the compound by then, running headlong down the street. The almost balding man ventured a glance back and his heart fell jumped into his throat. The young craft girl was gaining on him at a alarming rate as he tried to make his escape. He turned and took a shot at the girl in desperation. The bullet melted many feet in front of the girl, her power had threw up a barrier. He kept running and threw his gun away, pulling a second weapon from out of his coat and shot again.

The shot went through her barrier and Robin felt the sting of a bullet hitting her shoulder. She knew what it was... It was ORBO. She felt her power wain a little as the bullet sunk deep into her shoulder, but her anger made her never once stumble or slow. She was unwilling for even the ORBO shot to stop her, her anger made it possible to fight through it and continue the chase

After a block of the chase, the man stopped and trained his weapon back on the girl. She stopped as well, as they stood in the middle of the street with their eyes meeting. There was anger in the girl’s eyes, and fear in the man’s.

They looked at one another, knowing the final gambit of all of this was all under the bright moon overhead. Robin stood there, defiantly against the weapon leveled at her.
“ Why are you doing this?” She yelled at the man, as she felt the blood trickling out of her wound.. “ Why did you have to betray us like this?”

The balding man looked at the girl, as he seemed to be torn between fighting the girl or taking flight.
“ I did it for my own reasons.” He yelled back.
“ You were letting them try to kill me.” She called out, as she fought the effects of the ORBO that was starting to creep over her. “ You would do that for money?”
“ Money. Yes money!” He called out, raising his arm with the weapon. “ More money than I could ever have in my entire life. I would be put in charge of the ORBO project, and have the power and the wealth that I should have, power I could never have being the Commissioner of a branch of the STN.”
“ All of that, at the cost of many people’s death.” She venomously spat.

He seemed to laugh at the girl. He nodded.
“ They were all just witches and other unwanted people..” He said with a grin of contempt flooding his face. “ Just like you.”

Robin looked at the man, her anger swelling deep within her.
“ I am as human as you, But I am a Witch!!!” She spat, as she felt the ORBO effects lifting. “ You were my friend... you always were there, and now your wanting me dead?”
“ It is like this, young Robin....” The man said, reading his weapon. “ Friends are fleeting, witches are a threat and money can buy whatever.”
“ Money cannot by happiness.” She yelled, her anger spilling over. Her mind flared to the vision of her lover in a pool of blood back at the building. “ look at what you have done... betrayal, greed and murder... and all for power and money.”
“ That is why I need to kill you myself..” He smirked. “ You may stop us, but you death will be sweet...”

The man took a step back, and squeezed the trigger. A click came, but no shot. The man realized, that the gun had jammed at that moment. He paused suddenly as he felt fear grip, as he saw the flames flicker in her eyes, and knew that he was now in the young girl’s sights. Suddenly he burst into fireball of the greatest magnitude, and he screamed.

The flame engulfed the man and there was that momentary scream of unimaginable pain... then nothing. The man’s body was instantly reduced to just dust within seconds, as the Chief’s gun fell and now was nothing more than a melted lump of metal by the time it clattered to the ground.

The flames died off and the wind started to pick up the ashed remnants of what was Chief Kosaku, and began to blow them all around where the girl stood. Robin somberly watched as the ashes blew away. She could still feel the sting of what had just happened, but she ignored it all and raced back to the partnership building, her hand holding her bloody shoulder. All she could think of now was Amon. She raced as fast as her weakened body could, hoping that her lover was still alive.

She got to Nagira’s side inside the compound where he was tending to Amon. She could see that the man’s chest was bleeding heavily, turning his clothes red.

Amon was breathing very shallowly, his pallor was almost white as she looked at him. She fell to her knees where he lay, and looked deep into his dark eyes, seeing that the usual twinkle was gone.
“ The.. Chief?” Amon asked in a labored voice. “ Did he get away?”
“ I took care of him, My love...He’s dead.” She said, stroking the man’s ashen face. She had never seen the man like this, helpless. “ He won’t be a problem any more to anyone.”
“ G... Good.” He said as wheezing a little, blood trickling out of the side of his mouth.

The girl looked up at Nagira, after looking over to see the Partnership was sitting on the ground, handcuffed to one another with her STN comrades guarding them. She glared at them for a moment, then turned back to Nagira.
“ He need to get to a hospital right away..” She said to Nagira.
“ An ambulance is on the way....” He said, looking down at his half brother. “ Just hang in there, little bro.”

Amon lifted his arm slowly with a great effort, and laid his hand on the soft apple of the Robin’s cheek. He gazed into her green eyes, and seemed distressed that they were filled with tears as they looked back at him.
“ You know that I love you?” He said, giving a weak smile.
“ I do.” She said, looking down at the man in front of her. “ Hold on, the paramedics are on the way. You will be all right if you can just hold on.”

He shook his head slightly and looked right into her eyes.
“ I want you to know just how much you mean to me.” He said, his voice becoming more and more forced. “ You are my all... and I wish that we could have had more time than what we did...”
“ Don’t talk like that...” Robin pleaded, her tears coming in torrents.” The ambulance is...”
“ I can feel what is happening.... I am not going to make it. I love you, Robin Sena.” Said the man, as his voice suddenly trailed off, and was gone.

The man’s hand pulled her face down to him slowly, she did not resist. He placed a soft kiss on her lips for a moment, then broke it off and looked up at her again. His eyes became cloudy, and there was a choking sound that came from him.
“ No...Amon...” She said, seeing his whole being shake as he coughed up blood.

Amon gasped once more, his body shook, then his eyes seemed to slowly close. The man’s head then lolled to one side, there was another little sound come from him... and then Amon fell still.

Robin looked at Nagira, her face showing the desperation. Tears fell like rain over her face, as she searched the man’s face. What she saw, was a blank stare.
“ AMON!! AMON!!” She screamed, as she shook the form laying in front of her.

Nagira stopped the girl from shaking Amon. He then put tow finger onto the man’s neck, and paused. There was a shaky gasp from the tall lawyer, and he seemed to shutter
“ I’m sorry, Robin...” Nagira said, his own eyes starting to tear as he looked deep into the girl’s gaze.
“ NO!!” She gasped, as her eyes widened.
“ He’s gone.” Whispered Nagira.

Haruto lowered his head as he stood guarding over the partnership, as he heard Nagira clearly. A river of tears fell from Karasuma’s face, but she kept her weapon trained on the prisoners. Nagira just averted his own face downwards, his heart sinking into the very depths of himself.

Only sound that could be heard near, was of the wind whipping through the compound and the far of wailing of the paramedic’s truck and accompanying Police in the distance of the night. They were nearing, but still

All were watching as the dark clothed girl cradled the lifeless form of Amon in her lap. She had her head against the dead man’s, her tears fell like rain on Amon’s face. It seemed as haunting as the Partnership building was, the death was senseless.

They may have succeeded in stopping the greed and hate filled men, but the cost was way too much.
