Chapter Fourteen

Michael was hard at work, cleaning up the mess that the fake SOLOMON man had left. There had been no trace of what the man was actually after left, and a frustrated Karasuma had headed off with Haruto to the Chief’s home to check on him.

Aside from a low grade headache that thumped in his brain, the hacker lad was feeling more like himself. His mind was on the young hunter girl and the others, worried about just why all of this was occurring. In his heart, he knew that this was big.

He looked at his watch, and saw that the hunter lady had been gone for over three hours already, and no word as yet had been reported into him in all of that time. That was a red flag to him, a sign that this thing was getting deeper and deeper with each passing moment.

Through his head piece, he heard a soft beeping sound finally coming through. He was relived a little that someone was contacting him.
“ Karasuma?” He asked, answering it.
“ No sign of the chief here.” Miho’s voice came out to say with a grumble of worry in her voice. “ The place is locked up tight. We got in and nothing seems to be out of place or anything.”
“ Have you checked with all the neighbors?” Inquired the lad, thinking fast on his feet.
“ No one has seen him in about two days or so, by the sound of it.” Reported the lady. “ They also have seen no sign of that fake SOLOMON man either, which I could construe as a good thing, I guess.”
“ Damn!” Spat the lad.
“ My thought exactly.” The lady said. She paused for a moment on her side of the line. “ Any sign of Robin or anyone?”

The lad quickly moved to his terminal, just finished cleaning up the mess to the best of his ability.
“ No sign or word.” The young man said, wishing he had better news to report on. “ Now we have four people missing, and some shady character pretending to be SOLOMON is loose.”
“ Haruto and I are going to check around the Chief’s neighborhood a little more, then head back in to the office.” The woman said. “ You keep on looking for any sign of anyone at all.”
“ You got it.” He said, as the line went dead.

The youth went back to work, as he could hear Dojima moving around it the next room, finishing up her part of the clean up. She was slower, true, but he had noticed she had jumped into the task almost with a state of determination. Maybe she might find a clue in her end of the cleaning, he thought to himself.

Staring at the monitor for a long few seconds, he just did not know quite how to search for all of the people, but he just grim faced put his faith in himself. That was all he could do. Leaning forward a little, his hands began the dance across the keyboard and his mind plan out what had to be done.

Back at the Noodle place, the hideaway three were up and having a sparse meal together in the partial gloom of their underground refuge. It was a very somber breakfast across the board for each one, ass nobody was smiling.

Nagira was silent, eating his noodle dish. He seemed to be miles away with his thoughts, and that was not overlooked by the tall hunter.
“ Still thinking?” Amon asked his brother, eyeing the man’s distant gaze.
“ Uh, yeah... guess so.” Said the older man, his thoughts broken by Amon.
“ We should maybe contact someone.” Suggested Amon, almost hesitantly.
“ But whom do we trust?” Pointed out the lawyer, trying not to divulge his own plan he had put into effect at four this morning. “ In the STN? Other agency? If we do that, we need to be absolutely sure of it.”
“ That is the question on my mind.” Muttered Amon. “ Who would we chance to contact?”

Robin had been sitting silent, listening to the man talk. She also seemed to be in thought, but the talking had made her take interest in it.
“ Could we not try and just contact maybe Michael?” She suggested. “ He may be able to give us some information or something.”
“ He is still with the STN...” Nagira said, looking at the face of the young hunter girl. “ He could also be in line with this fake SOLOMON dude, or worse depending on things. Can you take a chance like that?”

Robin paused for a moment, then looked right into the intense eyes of Nagira.
“ I do...I think I can. He knows about ... my being pregnant.” She said flatly, lowering her head a little.
“ With that sort of info that SOLOMON might get a hold of, it possibly could have been the reason for a capture attempt on you.” Amon said almost angrily. “ Can you be certain that he is not part of all of this crap?”
“ Michael would never do that!” Protested Robin, then she softened as she thought on her man’s words. “ Would he?”

Amon stopped and thought on it. He knew that would be a part of Michael’s job with the STN, but would the young computer lad actually follow that type of order against them. That was a question and a half, the man thought.

Somewhere deep in Amon’s gut, he felt the answer come to him.
“ My mind says yes he could be, but I also have a feeling that he would not.” Said the man. “ Can we be absolutely certain of Michael? I say yes!”
“ Lets just mull it over awhile more...” Nagira said cautiously, trying to calm down the situation a notch or two. “ We have to be absolutely sure on everything, before we take that type of step.”

The other two nodded in agreement, and fell silently back to their meal. Not a word would be spoke between any of them for some time, as each one was weighing the only option that had popped up to them.

Nagira was back in his thoughts, hoping that his plan would unfold more rapidly than he knew it would be doing. He knew he had take one hell of a risk, and not telling the others might not be the best thing to have decided to do, yet he knew for it to work, it must be kept for awhile longer.

He sneaked a peek at his watch, noting the time. He only wished that it would go faster than what it was. He had a dreaded feeling in his heart, that it would be cutting it close with something that was unseen, even by him. Something was brewing, he could feel it!.
