Chapter Eleven

Night was falling in the city. The rain earlier had given way to a warm but quite muggy evening. Everything was blooming, as the rain had awakened the fauna everywhere someone would look. This was one pleasant evening that was shaping up to be a very good night as well.

A car drove down a almost completely deserted street, and stopped just across from a small café. Two figures were sitting in the car.

Touko and Miho were the people in the car. For hours, they had searched different out of the way places for the elusive Amon, but had not found him. People remembered the brooding man at different stops, but all said the same thing, he was not there.

Miho put her head on the steering wheel of the car, as frustration was setting in wit the woman.
“ Even in a place as large as Tokyo..” She said with a sigh. “ This man can disappear in a second.”
“ He was always good at that, when he needed time to think.” Touko said, frustration painting her words too.

Miho took out her communicator and pushed one of the buttons on it’s face. Michael’s voice came on the device.
“ Any change with Robin?” She asked, dispensing with the pleasantries. After phoning the lad off and on all day, they were not needed.
“ There is no real change...” The lad said flatly. “ I just heard that from Dojima who is sitting with Robin.”
“ Have they changed their diagnoses?”
“ They are just rehashing the old one again.” Michael sighed, his exhaustion starting tho show in his voice. “ Another words, they still are not even sure themselves.”

Miho put her head back on the headrest and closed her eyes for a second or two.
“ Great!” Muttered the brown haired hunter woman. “ Just keep me posted if there is any change.”
“ You know I will.” Replied the youth, before cutting his transmission off.

Miho put her communicator back in her pocked and shook her head. Looking at the woman that was with her, she just weighed her next words.
“ Any other places we have not tried yet? Any place you might have forgotten about?” She asked, her speech holding a great tension in it. “ If there is no more places for us to check, we just may have to begin at the start, and go through all of them again until we can figure other places to look

The woman sat and thought, while the hunter waited on her. It had been a long day, and it looked like it might be a really long night too. Hunting is one thing, but the urgency in which the needed to find him, made each stop feel like failure.

After a few minutes, Touko finally spoke.
“ There is two more places he might go to think...” She said slowly, as if pulling them out of her memory.
“ Where?” Urged the Hunter.
“ One place is an old service station, just near here. He parked there a couple of times after what he described as a “ hell of a case’..” She stated, as her face showed the unpleasantness of the memory that was attached to it.
“ The other?”
“ This on is a bit of a long shot...” Thought out loud the woman. “ There is a place on the shore, which juts out into the surf where benches are. He liked to sit there in the darkness, and watch the waves crash on the small piece of land that surrounded this little place.”

Miho started the car back up and looked at the woman.
“ You give me the directions.” She said, putting the car into the drive gear. “ And keep thinking if there is any more.”
“ Ok.” Said the woman, bracing herself for the woman to pull out the car fast from where they had parked.

The car drove off, in its relentless pursuit of the man. The two inside, hoping that they could finally track him down.

An hour later, they came to the spot of the benches of the sea, at the ocean side. It was located in a very remote part of the bay, where it had a rocky area that was probably crabbed by people at low tide for fun.

Miho stopped the car and peered out into the darkness outside. She could see a figure sitting on the bench. Not being able to see if it was the man, she got out of the car, leaving Touko to wait. The air was warm and salty, making her way to the man made lookout area and the figure in the dark of the night..

Under the light of the full moon, the woman neared the figure. As she was with in thirty or so feet, she saw clearly. It was Amon on the bench, staring vacantly out to sea.
“ Amon.” She said in a half loud voice.

The man turned, and looked at the woman.
“ How did you find me like this?” He asked, obviously surprised that the woman was there.
“ Touko and I have been searching for you all day.”

The man snuffed loudly, as she stared at Miho.
“ Touko... That is all I need.” He grunted. “ Being reminded of what I did to Robin. I loved her, and I did this... I don’t even know myself right now.”

Miho took a step towards the man.
“ About Touko, she will have to fill you in on what she needs to say later...” Started the lady. “ I have a more important thing to tell you than telling you about her moral break-down.”
“ What are you talking about?” He said, seemingly annoyed at it all. “ I have nothing to hear from Touko, or you, other than what I know happened. Just take her home and leave me alone.”

Miho shook her head and stepped in front of the man before he had a chance to turn his back on her. He stopped and took note of the woman, for she had never did this to him before
“ I can’t do that...” She said, looking right into the man’s face. “ It’s about Robin..”
“ Robin?” He asked, his ears picking up a strange tone in the woman’s speech. “ What about her?”
“ She was hurt on a hunt.” Said the woman flatly.

The man’s stern features suddenly broke into a mask of concern, as the word hit him. He grabbed the woman’s shoulders and looked right at the lady hunter.
“ Is she alright? How Bad?” He questioned, his word racing out to the point that they were mottling together.

Miho knew she needed to tell him. With no hesitation, she began.
“ We were hunting a witch, and we were at a brief stalemate when Haruto came up behind the witch.” She explained, then continued as the man stared at her. “ He shot the witch, but a bullet that missed was deflected by something in the area, shot overhead and brought down a air conditioner... Robin could not get out of the way in time.”

The man took a deep breath, as he rubbed his cheek with one hand.
“ How bad?”
“ She took a hit to the head, and has been unconscious since... the Doctors don’t know what might happen to her.” She said. “ That is why I was with Touko all this time, looking for you.”

The man just took a deep breath. His eyes seemingly tearing up a little.
“ You lead me to the hospital, I will follow you in my car... its not parked too far away.” He said. “ Get me to Robin, Miho!!”

The two sprinted off to the cars, as urgency pushed their legs to the limits.

They neared Miho’s car, and slowed their pace down. The hunter woman swore, as she saw her car door was wide open, and Touko was gone. The woman glanced around the area, but the long haired woman was nowhere to be seen.
“ Shit!!” Miho swore loudly, punching a fist into her own hand. “ She ditched and ran.”
“ Why was she with you in the first place?” Amon asked, starting to head to his car with a rushed step.

Miho just turned and faced the man, clearly angry at the woman’s flight from her own inner-self.
“ She was suppose to have clear a few things up with you.” She flatly said, adding. “ and Robin, when she was better.”
“ What ever it fucking is... I don’t care right now. She can just wait!!” He said with a shout of emotion, walking across the small parking area to where he had parked his car to partially hide it, under a large tree. “ You can fill me in later, Miho... I need to get to Robin.”
“ You just get your car then and we’ll get to Tokyo General fast as we can...” Miho hurried. “ I’d rather not be the one to speak for Touko. She has to do that.”

The man grunted and running to his car, obviously not going to worry about his ex’s disappearing trick, or whatever his fellow hunter was trying to elude to. He was just wanting to get to Robin’s side with no pausing anywhere anyway. He would have to find out later just what was being kept from him.

In a flash, the two cars roared off into the night, bound for the hospital as fast as they could get away with. One behind the other, they snaked their way into the city’s central core, where the medical establishment was located.
