Chapter Seven
Morning broke very bright in Tokyo, as it promised to be a very hot one. The pacific sun was baking the land in its heat, along with its celestial brightness.Robin was walking through a large park, going to work from morning prayers at the local Catholic Church. The sun was bright and cheery overhead, but the young hunter was not so inclined to be happy.
The girl looked tired and drawn, her head lowered as she made her way to the STN offices located just outside of the park’s hold. Seeming to be still on the verge of crying, the tawny haired girl made her way, but seemed to be keeping in check to some degree.
She was not looking forward to seeing Amon after the day before. She was dreading having to be near him, especially after what she had divulged during the struggle with the Witch Sato. She did not want to be brushed off like that ever again.
“ Why did I say that like that?” She asked herself, looking to the skies for some Devine guidance. None was forthcoming, it was clear to her.
Morning prayers had did little to help her, and actually made her sadder than what she was. Uncharacteristically, she had slipped out of the sanctuary earlier than she usually did. Staying only long enough to pray a couple of prayers before making her way to the point of where she was now.
Thinking back to earlier in the morning, Robin had even purposely avoided Touko, staying in her room until the woman had left for work to come out. She did not want to talk to the woman, even though her roommate was so kind as to have been trying to help her the night before. Robin had heard her leave that evening, and was glad of that, for she did not want her to hear her crying all over again, falling asleep before the woman had came home again.
Everywhere the black garbed girl looked, young lovers were everywhere. Some cuddled in the benches that lined the walkpath throughout the park, talking low and giggling as they felt one another through clothes. Other were hold each other close as the walked, seemingly so very happy and joyous in the brightness of the new day.
Robin looked away, as all of this was getting too much for her. She was feeling rather sorry that she had confessed to her feelings like she had, even though she had surprised herself with the admission. She wanted to take it back, to avoid the embarrassment and hurt and the rejection of Amon towards her, but nothing could have done that.
Speeding up her walk to a very impressive pace, she just hurried her self to the office, and hoped it would have lots of work to do for the day. Thinking like this was just too hard for her to stand.
Michael was the first one to see the young girl come in and nodded. He looked again, and noticed the girl was not quite herself.
“ You look like hell.” He commented, pulling one of his earbuds out. “ Did you not sleep well?”
Robin could only shake her head in answer to the boys question. She moved smoothly across the floor to her desk, never saying a word to the concerned young man who just looked at her, before returning to the computer.
Relived a little, The youngest hunter noticed that Amon’s desk was sitting empty, and hoped that he would be a little bit more late than this. She just could not handle it right then to actually see the man..
Dojima came prancing in to the office, a coffee cup held in one hand as she did some fancy footwork of some sort of dancing. She seemed overly chipper this morning, as she nearly skipped her way to her desk.
“ Good morning, all.” She sung out, her smile broad.
Robin did not answer, as the girl’s happiness was uncomfortable to her. She just nodded, and began typing out the report of the incident for yesterday. She just wished she stayed at home, she thought to herself.
Dojima looked to the computer lad, ignoring the apparent dark mood of the young hunter sitting at her desk.
“ Where is Amon and Karasuma at?” She asked.
“ Karasuma is out on a mission with Haruto, and Amon has yet to come in to the office.” Michael answered. “ It’s been pretty quiet here.”
“ Not come in?” She said, stomping her feet playfully. “ And to think I get into a hell of a lot of shit when I take a day off.”
“ It would not be so bad if you only took a day now and then.” Pointed out the lad, smiling impishly.
Yurika stuck out her tongue out at the youth in response to his comment. Michael just shook his head and returned to his work, ignoring the child like way the woman had acted- that was always the case anyway. The young woman just shrugged and went over to her desk and sat down, picking up a show business magazine to pass her time with her coffee.
Robin just ignored the both of them, as she dreaded the time when Amon would arrive in the office. She did not know quite how to handle the situation when it happens, and prayed for some guidance to help deal with it. Today, it seemed like she would not get any answers for all of her prayers.
Two hours passed by very slowly for the youngest of the STN, and Amon had not shown up yet. This was hard on the young girl, as the anticipation of having to see the tall hunter was way worse than it would be to actually be face to face with him.
Chief Kosaka came into the room, after meeting with a tall man dressed in a police outfit. He seemed to be happy too, this was one of the few times he seemed to be in a really great frame of mind.
“ Anything going on, I should know about?” He asked to anyone in the room.
Michael looked up at his boss.
“ It’s pretty quiet here, Chief. “ He said with a grin. “ Karasuma and Haruto have already captured the Witch assigned to them... SOLOMON have already taken jurisdiction of him.”
“ Good, Good.” He said, rubbing his hands together in delight. He stopped, as she noticed something. “ Where is Amon?”
The computer lad shrugged his thin shoulders to the roof.
“ Beats me, Boss...” He said, stretching a little. “ He has not come in yet, and he has not phoned in either.”
The man turned to the youngest of his hunters.
“ Would you know where Amon is, by chance?” He asked, his face hoping to hear something.
“ I have not seen him since yesterday, Chief Kosaku.” She answered, her voice barely over a whisper.
The man just groaned loudly.
“ You hunters think it is all right to take a day whenever you damned well want.” He said, getting loud. He just took a deep breath as he smoothed the bald area of his head, as if he had hair there to begin with. “ Robin, just go home then... we will call you back in if your partner decided to make an appearance here.”
Robin nodded and stood up. She was glad that she could go home, her mind was not on her work anyways. Her mood was just too scattered to make a good effort with any of it, she realized.
Gathering her coat, she headed to the elevator, thinking of stopping in at Harry’s for a espresso before walking home. Perhaps that would help her mood out, she thought as she headed out. She hoped it, but was very skeptical of it’s effects.
