Chapter 6 of The Moon's Tears: The Complications In Life

Khota hadn't really been asleep the entire time, she had listened to every single word her brother had said and it made her cringe. All this time she thought he was her brother and he really wasn't, nor were her parents her real parents. It had all been a lie, and she hated being lied to. They were not related, they were not siblings. She couldn't believe it, but he had said with all sincerity.

It wasn't just the fact that they weren't related that made her depressed, it was also the fact that he had chosen to tell them before he told her.

She could feel the tears forming and wiped them away as she sat up. Her eyes adjusted to the darkness quickly and she stretched her limbs before getting to her feet slowly.

Khota looked down at her 'brother's' sleeping form and heaved a heavy sigh than carefully tip toed around the sleeping wolves.

She walked for a little, she needed to clear her head and think. So he wasn't her brother, did that really change things?-yes it did, it meant that she had been living a lie thinking that she was his little sister. And the other thing, about her being created in a lab from another wolf's DNA, Tsume was right, it was disgusting and made her a freak within the rest of them. How could any wolf accept her if she was a creation of humans, how could Hige stand her?

Khota jumped up to the top of an abandoned building and sat down on it's edge with her hands (paws) caressing her face while her elbows were propped up on her knees as she sat cross-legged.

She gazed up at the thin crest of white that was the moon and shook her head, "Tsume's right…" she whispered, "I am a freak of science." She hugged her knees tightly fighting back the tears.

"You don't always have to listen to Tsume, that's just one person's opinion." a voice said from behind her.

She turned her head around to see Kiba standing a few feet away from with a solemn expression on his face. He walked towards her and sat down next to her, "You shouldn't let him get to you."

Khota looked at Kiba and narrowed her eyes, "It may be just his opinion ,but it's the truth. I'm a freak of science, a creation of humans, I'm not like any of you." She told him with a twinge of anger in her voice, trying to hold back all the feelings inside of her, afraid that they might burst.

"You're unique," Kiba said plainly, "And he just doesn't like that." He stated, he knew how Tsume was like better than anyone else even though those two usually got into more arguments than anyone else. "I'm getting a vibe that isn't the only thing bothering you." Kiba said looking a her intently and seeing her face sorrow filled.

Khota nodded her head slightly, "It just feels like all the weight on my shoulders has gotten heavier is all." She answered quietly still staring at the stars and refusing to look him in the eye.

"How so?" Kiba asked interestingly.

Khota took a deep breath than began, "My 'parents' died then Hige left me alone with no explanation about what was happening and after that I felt like me world was collapsing. I felt so abandoned and that nothing I could do would change what had happened. I missed him terribly though and could not let a day go by without thinking about being reunited with him, he meant so much to me despite how long it had been. Now finally, I'm back with him and I felt complete again, but now I find out he isn't my brother than things just seem to not fit anymore. I can't stand this feeling like everything around me was a lie to begin with , my parents and him." She sighed and pushed a stray lock of her long amber colored hair behind her ear in a melancholy way.

Kiba stared at her, "Maybe you should ask him for an explanation, I'm sure he'll give you one now."

"Perhaps he will and perhaps he won't," she said drearily, "I feel like I don't know him anymore." Unintentionally, she leaned her head against his shoulder, "What do you think?" she asked hardly audible.

Kiba felt a light blush spread across his face, "L-like I said, I'm sure he will." He stammered slightly.

Khota just realized that she was leaning her head on his shoulder and pulled back, "Sorry." she said honestly, embarrassed by her actions. "Anyway," she said waving her hand a little trying to brush the situation aside, "It's more complicated than that."

"How so?" Kiba asked raising his eyebrow confused. How could it be complicated?-all she had to do was ask him about it.

"Part of me wants to know and part of me doesn't," she explained simply. "If I find out why he left, I'll be content in finally knowing, but then again , do I really want to know why he left me?" She began fingering the locket around her neck delicately pondering inside her head in silence.

"Would it depress you if you knew?" he inquired.

She dropped her stare from the moon and leaned back using her arms to prop her up then looked at him, "I don't know if it would, it just seems like right now isn't a really good time to find it out. I'm still in shook about the most recent events."

"Makes sense," Kiba agreed rubbing the back of his neck while keeping his eyes fixed on her.

After an awkward silence Khota asked, "Why did you follow me here?"

Kiba shrugged dismissively, "Make sure nothing bad happened to you, I guess."

Khota rolled her eyes, typical guys, she thought stubbornly, trying to make themselves be all noble, "Why did you really follow me?-I hate being lied to. I've been lied to way more than is needed mind you. You think some human or bounty hunter is going to get the best of me, huh?" she said firmly.

"Tsume told us about your encounter Leiko and how you froze," He stated trying not to laugh as she began fuming.

She folded her arms across her chest and glared fiercely at him, "Shut up." If he dared to laugh she was ready to rip out his throat and watch him bleed to death, besides being lied o, being mocked was another thing she loathed with every fiber in her being.

A smile curled up on Kiba's lips, but he knew better than to laugh at her, Tsume said she was like a ticking time ball of female hormones from his brief experiences with her.

"So what if I froze?" Khota said lowering her guard, "I was mostly surprised is all."

"It's odd isn't it." Kiba said facing her.

"What's odd?" she asked curiously.

"How things get so complicated at times." he replied sheepishly.

"Everything is complicated," Khota sighed deeply, a breeze of wind went by that cooled her skin, "That's why sometimes I can't stand living, but it beats the alternative I guess."

"Do you really think you're a freak?" Kiba questioned, "Because that's only what Tsume said."

She nodded slightly, "I'm not like the rest of you guys at all, that's another thing that's making my life unbearable right now."

"Well at least you know the truth," Kiba said earnestly, "Although it probably was something you didn't want to hear at all."

Khota agreed, "It's hard to believe though, but I'm going to have to accept it whether I want to or not. There's nothing that can be done to change it."

"So you're just going to live with it." he said.

Khota exhaled heavily, "Of course, but maybe I should join up with Aki, Baku and Rayne, they must be worrying about me."

"They're other wolves?" Kiba asked.

"Yes, do you think I'd wander around with humans?" she said scrunching her nose to show her dislike for them.

Kiba chuckled softly, "You strike me as the type of wolf who'd get along with humans."

Khota rolled her eyes in an annoyed manner and than playfully tackled him and straddled his lap. She looked down at him smugly, "You're going to pay for saying that Kiba."

Kiba rolled over so now she was below him and he was on top, "How so? There really isn't much you can do in your current position." he smiled not realizing how close his face was to hers.

Khota noticed though, she felt his warm breath when breathed in and out and felt an odd feeling in the pit of her stomach, "Eh…Kiba." she mumbled not liking how she was feeling about the position she was in.

"What?" he asked confused by the expression on her face.

"Erm…" she stammered too uncomfortable to say and wondered why in her head, he hadn't noticed that he was right on top of her with his chest pressing against hers. Her head felt woozy and she couldn't understand why her heart felt like it was hammering.

He saw the blush spreading across her face and how she was avoiding eye contact with him and he couldn't figure out what was causing this reaction from her, "What's wrong?"

"Y-you're kind of…" she hesitated to say, "You're kind of c-close Kiba." she mumbled.

"Oh," Kiba said in a little surprise, he himself hadn't realized it ,but he was reluctant to get off of her. Despite the fact that he had just met her earlier that day, he felt a connection with her that comforted him in a strange, way had never felt like this before. Instead of moving away from her, he leaned closer to her face and without thinking, he kissed her softly on the lips.

She felt like her body had gone numb as an electric spark shot through her.

He held the kiss on her lips for a few more seconds, savoring the velvetiness of her full lips, then withdrew slowly staring into her eyes intently.

Khota's eye widened in total shock, "Kiba…" she whispered breathlessly.

Kiba go to his feet still trying to process in his head what he had just done, although he had done it, he couldn't believe himself. He looked at her laying on her back staring up at him. The moonlight made her eyes twinkle and seemed to get caught in her hair making it look golden. He didn't say anything, he turned around and went down the building to go back to where the others were.

Khota blinked in disbelief and sat up slowly, her limbs felt weak and her energy drained. She touched her lips with the tips of her fingertips. The kiss had been brief, very brief, but the passion that was in it was what made her go numb. She had never experienced anything like that, it seemed unreal. A deep crimson blush spread across her face as she went back to where the others were sleeping.

She didn't want Hige to know that she had heard him talking about who she really was so she decided to act as though everything was normal and snuggled up against him no feeling like things were about to get even more complicated then they were before.

Great, she thought as she stared at Kiba who was only a few feet away from her sleeping or at least pretending to, things are going to get more complicated, but she soon found herself joining the others in blissful sleeping…

"You see," Lady Toshi started as Leiko sat across from her sipping some Ginger Tea, "I still want her because of certain reasons, she's much to valuable to me to let her wander aimlessly around the world." Lady Toshi was attired differently now, she had a white mask with holes for the eyes on her face, her long hair was woven into a long braid, her nails were still black, but now pointed and she wore a dark purple silk dress that with a large v-cut in the back and had long sleeves.

"Won't that make it more difficult to capture her?" Leiko questioned.

Lady Toshi snorted and picked up her tea cup and sipped it than placed it back down on it's saucer carefully, "Yes, but once you capture her bring her here so I can erase her memory. Then I can manipulate her to do the things I want."

Leiko quirked her eyebrows, "Why do still want her if the experiment didn't work, why not let it go? How is she so valuable, she's just a wolf!"

Lady Toshi shook her head, "Not just a wolf, the finest wolf ever." Lady Toshi stood up and walked over to the doorway and beckoned Leiko to follow her, "I want to show you something."

Leiko followed the noble woman down some extravagant golden halls with marvelous marble statues and priceless paintings on the wall to a door. Lady Toshi opened the door and they entered what appeared to be a young girl's room with a small four poster bed with pink frilly sheets, white and pink striped curtains decorated the window frames and stuffed animals and dolls lay scattered about the clattered child room.

Lady Toshi was standing in front of a darkly polished wooden dresser looking at a photograph that was displayed on it with a silver frame. She picked up the picture in her hand as though it was her dearest treasure than showed the photo to Leiko.

Leiko stared at the picture: it was of a small girl sitting on a swing that Leiko recalled seeing in the noble's garden outside earlier that day. The girl was wearing a white sundress with sandals and had golden eyes with long straight amber hair. The young girl looked familiar…it looked like Khota.

"This was my daughter, Akiko," Lady Toshi told her, "She was so precious to me, but then she was murdered when she was six. I miss her so." Lady Toshi looked at the picture mournfully, "That's why I need Khota, in fact, that was what she was created for, to replace my daughter that my heart aches for." Leiko could not see under the mask, but she knew Lady Toshi was crying. "Akiko meant everything to me," the noble continued, her finger traced the image of the girl in the photo, "This is all I have left of her, this picture and this room."

"So you think that Khota will replace your daughter." Leiko said wistfully "But why is she a wolf then, your daughter was human, right?"

Lady Toshi put the picture back on the dresser, "After she died I decided to clone her, I needed her so badly, but within the blood sample was wolves blood. You see, they never found Akiko's body and because there was wolf blood mixed in her DNA, it was obvious that a wolf had killed her and most likely ate her so there was no body to be found. Blood was everywhere, on the walls on the rugs." She sniffed, "The scientists told me since they couldn't find a clean sampled with only her blood , that the clone would be a wolf as well as human. I agreed for it though, I wanted my daughter back more than anything in the world and when that 'Khota' was created I tried to care for like she was Akiko, but I couldn't bring myself to. Sure they looked alike, but still, she still wasn't my Akiko so I abandoned her and now I want her back."

"What a touching story," Leiko muttered not caring that much just as long as she was getting paid for this, "I'm used to killing wolves though so it might cost you more for me to bring one to you alive Lady Toshi." She placed her hands on her hips waiting her the noble to respond.

"Of course," Lady Toshi mumbled, "I'll pay you whatever you want ,but if you harm her I will be merciless towards you."

Leiko nodded and headed out ,but she stopped in the doorway, "What about the other wolves she's with?" She asked peering at Lady Toshi from over her shoulder.

"I don't care what you do with them." she replied coolly, "Kill them if it pleases you to do so."

Khota woke up with a headache the next morning to find Hige wasn't next to her anymore, instead he and everyone else was up and eating some food they had caught.

"Hello sleepy head," Hige said cheerfully noticing that she had woken up, "Had enough sleep yet?"

Khota rubbed her eyes that were adjusting to the sunlight, "Why didn't you wake me up?" she asked squeezing between him and a displeased Blue.

"You looked so cute sleeping," Hige teased, he obviously was clueless to the fact that she didn't know he truth.

She become aware that everyone, save Kiba, was staring at her oddly, probably thinking about what Hige had told them last night about her being a clone. (A/N Although Hige's information was basically almost entirely wrong ;P but they don't know that)

"So where are we going anyway?" she asked when the finished breakfast looking at Kiba as he feebly tried to avoid eye contact with her. What had happened last night still flared in her head and she guessed it was still imprinted in his head and was occupying his thoughts even though he was the one who had done it.

Authoress: I don't know if I should pair her off with Kiba because I was thinking of paring her off with err…someone else, originally when I was thinking (planning this story, outline stuff) I was going between Rayne, Tsume, Kiba and Koishi (he's going to appear later in the story, preferably the sequel now because I've changed things around so much from my outline) or should she remain single? Anyways, please review!!! And another thanks to the reviewers and readers, you guys rock!
