-------
How long had it been since he'd found his lover in that cell? How long had it been since he's fallen into a coma? After everything that chaos had been through, Canaan doubted that things would ever be the same.
chaos had yet to awaken from his coma. His battered and broken body was simply not healing fast enough for doctors to be sure of his survival. The boy remained unresponsive and on life-support.
Canaan wished that nano-technology could be used to treat chaos, but alas that was not the case. If the nano-technology could be used, chaos would most likely be awake now and healed.
But after seven long weeks, there was barely any improvement. Although the bruises and cracked ribs had healed, nothing else seemed to have changed. The wrist and foot were still mending, not fully healed yet. chaos remained in a coma, doctors not knowing why. Canaan remained hopeful that chaos would pull through.
-------
“Canaan, I want you to consider letting him go.”
“What?”
“Although some things have healed, it appears that the trauma his body received overloaded his brain. His chances of waking up are not very good at this point. It may be best to let him pass on.”
“I am not giving up on him!”
“Alright. I will allow him to remain on life support for five more weeks. If there isn't enough improvement, then he will be disconnected and be allowed to pass on. I know this is a hard choice for you, Canaan. But it may be in his best interest to let him go.”
“He'll wake up. I know it. You'll see.”
-------

Canaan sat by chaos' bedside, holding a frail hand in his. chaos looked so small and fragile in the hospital bed. Canaan was almost afraid to touch him, thinking that he might break. chaos was like a fragile doll that would shatter if dropped. Canaan hoped that some sort of miracle would happen, that chaos would wake and everything would be okay again. Canaan didn't want to lose his lover.
If he lost chaos, Canaan knew that he wouldn't be able to go on.
--------
It's so dark here.
I'm lonely.
How long have I been here?
Where is this place?
<chaos, you must wake up. It isn't time for you to go yet.>
Nephilim?
<Wake up!>
But how?
It's so hard.
<You have someone who desperately wants to see you. You need to wake up for him.>
Canaan?
Is he really here?
------
Three long weeks passed. chaos continued to heal slowly, yet show no signs of waking.
Canaan continued to spend as much time with him as he could. He didn't want to believe that he could end up losing chaos if the five weeks ran out.
--------
The days were running out fast. Doctors were convinced that chaos wasn't going to wake up at this point. They continued to try and convince Canaan, who wasn't about to let them let chaos go before the allotted five weeks were up.
Three days now remained before the fateful decision would be made.
-------
<You have to wake up!>
But it's so hard…I can't.
<You must! You will die if you do not!>
Die?
<Yes! Hurry and wake up!>
-----
Canaan knew that he was out of time. In just a few hours chaos would be taken off the life support. It would take a miracle now for the boy to wake up.
He sat beside the boys' bed, wishing that something would happen. At this point, Canaan would take anything. Any sign that would let him know what to do.
chaos' fingers twitched. Canaan stared; sure that it had been a figment of his imagination.
But they twitched again and chaos' eyelids fluttered.
“chaos? Can you hear me?” Canaan murmured, holding chaos' hand and watching his face.
Slender fingers weakly closed around his hand. Canaan, if he had been able to, knew that he would be crying tears of joy.
He immediately went to go tell a doctor that chaos was waking up.
----
Aqua eyes dulled and clouded with blindness opened slowly.
“It's alright,” a familiar and calming voice said. “You're in a hospital. You've been in a coma. Relax and take your time. Sleep if you need to, if you feel tired at all.”
Those blind eyes closed, the boy soothed by the presence of his lover and he fell asleep.
------
Canaan watched chaos sleeping, knowing that the boy was in no danger of falling back into a coma.
Doctors' were stunned. chaos had even started to heal at a quicker rate. It seemed that the miracle Canaan had been hoping for had come.
chaos was going to be alright.
------
chaos remained in the hospital for several more weeks until the doctors were sure he was well and strong enough to leave.
Canaan was given a list of foods that would help chaos get back up to a healthy weight. The boy was still dangerously thin, but with the right nutrition, would soon be healthy again. Canaan was also going to be chaos' eyes, as the boy was permanently blind. It seemed that chaos was going to be relying a lot on his lover now. The boy could no longer be as independent as he had once been.
Canaan would miss having chaos with him in the E.S. Asher, acting as his navigator. He knew that sometimes chaos would have to be left in the care of others while he went out on missions.
But he was willing to do anything for chaos to be happy and healthy again. The boy had shown him so much just by loving him. Canaan wanted to return the favor and make sure that no one would hurt chaos again.
