Chapter 4
Fate of Stone
Disclaimer: You know the jist by now guys. I am not repeating myself.
The night fell about the lands of New York, a land far away from where the duelists were napping. It was now the time of prowling for a band of stone creatures that sat nestled on their resting places above the castle they once protected. Cracking noises came from their hardened forms, pebbles starting to flake off as their eyes turned a flame red.
Below, people gasped as the rocks fell down towards them from the top of the tall skyscraper. Even though this had been happening in their city for some time, they were still not used to it.
Once free from their shells, the forms spread their wings, yawning. It was such a life for the last clan of gargoyles known to the Americas. One of the larger, blue colored creatures looked at his friends. "I'm starving! Let's get some grub!"
"You're always hungry, Broadway…" A smaller, bald gargoyle mumbled, rubbing his eyes. She smiled. "I am gonna go see Alex." He said before entering the castle.
The one known as Broadway looked at his friend. "Lex, you're always running off to see him."
"So?" Lexington asked, not saying a word more. Their leader shook his head as he watched his young friends. He looked down, feeling something brush against his side. He patted the dog like gargoyle on the head. "You better go after Hudson before he goes to watch the television without you or one of the others snatch it, Bronx…"
The dog barked before heading inside as well. It was then that the leader noticed one of his friends was silent. He glided down off of his perch, landing beside the orange colored youngster. "Are you okay, Brooklyn? You don't seem like yourself tonight…"
"I guess I didn't have a good sleep is all, Goliath." He said, his wild hair blowing in the wind.
"Want to talk about it?" The taller, black haired one asked.
"Leave the lad alone if he wants to be." The elder, Hudson, said as he headed inside, the dog, Bronx, at his side. Goliath rolled his eyes and let him go before looking at his friend again.
"I've been getting this odd feelings that something is after us is all… I mean, I know we have been safe from all harm as of late, but I still feel as if something is after us…"
"Just old memories, my friend. Just old memories." He other said, placing a hand on Brooklyn's shoulder.
"The only worries you guys have are the citizens complaining about the rock fall from when you wake up." A voice said from behind them, making them both jump. Goliath sighed.
"Hello, Elisa. How are you?"
"Been better…" She said with a smile. "Ready to go for those hot dogs I promised you?"
Goliath nodded, looking back at his friend. "Want to come along?" He asked. Brooklyn shook his head no.
"I am gonna stick around here tonight…." He said before climbing up the side of the castle tower to the highest perch he could, sighing. Once more, he, Hudson, and Lexington were the only ones really left at the castle besides Bronx. But the others did deserve to have their fun.
He sighed as he looked around the city below him once he was on his perch. He did love this city. He loved the new wonders that it brought and the adventures that awaited him. But, what he loved the most was protecting it. It was like old times for him and the others and those were things that he knew he would always cherish.
As the wind blew in his hair, he picked up a scent. A familiar, dangerous scent. "Demona…" he whispered.
At that same moment, a scream came from inside of the castle. He knew that it was Lexington and raced to see what commotion was about. Normally, when a scream followed Demona's scent, it was trouble.
"Xanatos! Get Alex outta here!" Lex hissed, fighting off his old friend gone evil once more. "What do we have to do to get rid of you? Kill you?!"
"Now, that would be an idea…" the female gargoyle hissed as she held an orb out in front of her and began to chant. "L'alimentazione di nerezza, viene da con dentro. Presenti al mio bisogno, sopra vengono la mente dell'uomo. Dimentichi l'anima o le parentele, estraggono questa anima alla mia mano."
As Lexington tried to run from the blast that reached out to him, Brooklyn and Hudson reached the room. "Lex! Watch out!" But it was too late, he was already consumed by her magic.
A moment later, his lifeless form fell to the ground. Demona laugh aloud. "Now for the rest of you…"
"Do you think I am going to let you have all of the fun?" A figure asked, landing behind Hudson and kicking him across the back of the head, knocking him out before chanting the same spell that Demona had, taking his soul from him as well.
Brooklyn gasped. "McBeth! Demona! What do you two want?!" He got on his guard.
"Nothing more then your pathetic souls…." They both laugh maniacally before a thud was heard. Suddenly, Brooklyn's world went dark.
