Chapter Six

The Dream Diary

Seto was running down the street with a flashlight in his hand, hoping for some sign of the girl. How could he have been so stupid? Why hadn't he gone after her when she ran away from the class? Mokuba had told him what he had seen and Seto had call Yugi and his friends incase they had seen her. The entire gang was running around in the death of night looking for a red head that looked like she was ten years old or less. Seto didn't know how many time he had stopped by the police station, asking if they had picked the girl up, or how many time he had to explain to a street cop that Yugi was sixteen! He had actually told Yugi to stay home, but Yugi refused saying that Kari and he had a special bond together, but wouldn't tell what kind. After countless hours, they returned to Seto's house. Mokuba had fallen into a deep sleep since it was about four in the mourning. Seto felt like punching himself, but instead pick his baby brother up and tucked him into bed. Yugi in the mean time had gone into Kari's room, searching for something; anything to tell them were she might be. Joey and Seto entered a few moments later.

"Hey Yug?" Joey called to him. "Or Yami… which of them you are, what are you doing?"

"Looking for a key," Yugi replied just as Yami crawled out from under the bed. "Did you find it?"

"Nope!" The dark half replied and looked around. "I did find this,"

Seto took the golden locket and looked inside. It was the locket he had given her after he had taken her in. Inside was an old photo of a family he didn't know.

"Who are they?" He asked.

"I was going to ask you," Yami replied. Yugi walked up and looked at the locket shape.

"Yami you found it!" He replied and snatched to locket away. Seto was about to protest when Tea entered looking sick confused and worried.

"Kari just called on the phone," She replied as she sat down. No one noticed Yugi picking up and thick, but small black book. "She said she was at Pegasus's house,"

"Well let's go there and get her!" Seto growled. She hated that man so much, why would she be at his place.

"That's just it," Tea said. "She said she wants to stay there and for you to leave her alone,"

"What!" Seto, Joey, Yami, and Yugi cried together.

"She hates him!" Seto protested.

"Hey guys!" Yugi replied. "Listen to this,"

"What is that? Her diary?" Joey asked. Yami was the one to answer.

"A Dream Diary,"

"What's that?" Yugi asked.

"Ancient superstition," Yami replied before Joey gave some stupid comment. "Long ago, people believed that dreams told you something. Naffinni believe that if you wrote down nightmares in the pages of a book, they would be locked in there for eternity,"

"Well listen to this one…" Joey said and recited the first page.

Dear diary,

The dreams are getting worst. He is coming into them more and more often. Last night I dreamt I was on a meadow. I swear I could smell and taste the grass. I thought, it was my paradise. Then… he showed up. He pinched my neck, lifting me as if I was a puppy. I looked to see myself as one. He kept calling me his puppy-dog, wagging a finger at me, said over and over `Bad puppy! Naughty little puppy! You know you shouldn't run away!' I wanted to bite him. I thought I could hear my friend laughing at me. The humiliation was unbearable! I wanted to die. I know that you can't feel anything, but it felt like loosing the only thing that I treasure now.

"Jeez! That's like the nightmare I had in the duelist kingdom except for in was Kiaba pulling my strings," Joey thought loudly.

"What are you talking about?" Seto asked looking pretty dangerous.

"Nothing!" Joey replied.

"That's depressing," Bukura replied, giving everyone a scare. He was standing in the doorway. "Who wrote that?"

"Kari," Tea replied as she filled two pages forward. "Here's the next one…"

Dear Diary,

It's happen again. Why is he after me? This time, I had that dream again. The dream I had when I was seven. I was sitting on the playground in Apple Gates Orphanage with Annie and Timmy. We decided on a game of tag and Annie's it. I start to head of the woods nearby. Slowly it gets dark and cold. A storm comes up and in the flash of lighting he's there, with Jewel on one leash and a huge Doberman pincher on another. I call for Jewel to come to me, but she doesn't. It was like she hated me, wanted to kill me. He keeps telling me to come home and he might go easy on my punishment for running away. I told him no and he turns into the monster. I swear every time I wake up from that dream I can feel where the craws dig into me, where he hit me, where he touched me. The way he bit into me like, like a vampire.

Seto snatched the book up and reread the page. Why hadn't she told him that these were her nightmares? And who was Jewel? How many secrets did she hide from him? Seto flipped over to the other page before turning pale. The others looked questioning at him.

"She feels guilty over her sisters death," Seto and told them about Kari graveyard dream where Daisy was blaming her.

"Oh my god," Tea whispered. It was hard to believe that Kari was dreaming this. She was always happy and so innocent. Yugi looked this time and looked very grim.

Dear Diary,

I thought I knew what my dreams meant, but with each of them I become confused. Last night I dreamt that he was here in my home. In his hands he held a leash. He looked angry with me. He just stood there, waving the leash back and forth, as if he was playing with me. I started to head for the door, when he grabs me lifting me up from the ground. I scream for Seto the save me, but he covers my mouth, hushing me as he forces the leash and collar around my neck. He starts to pull me out the door. I turn to see Seto just standing, holding Mokuba back, and telling him to be quiet. I try calling to him, screaming, and crying that it's me. I look at myself, dog with a muzzle on, straining against a leash. Is it telling me that I belong to him that no matter what I do, Pegasus has a hold on my leash, my freedom? Or is it saying that Seto will leave me, like mommy did? That I don't have a family or love.

Everyone stared at Seto, as if it was his fault. Seto stood shocked over what Yugi had just read. It wasn't true! He loved Kari just like he loved Mokuba. What gave her the idea that he would hate her? Yugi stood pondering the same thing. Kari knew they all cared about her. Then it hit Yugi.

"We have to get her back," Yugi replied.

"But she said…" Tea replied.

"I don't care what she said!" Yugi almost yelled, which was very unlike him. "Something is going on at Pegasus's house and I want to know what right now!"
