Chapter 3: When paths cross part one
“Where have you been?” Talibah sighed inwardly as her mentor bellowed at her in front of everyone in the banquet hall. Everyone was staring. Shadu looked mysteriously at her, Seth's eyes were cold as usual, but Isis and the other two priests looked somewhat sympathetic. The Pharaoh was staring at her with a very stern look but offered a tiny smile. He wasn't angry; in fact he was amused. That was a close call. So with that assurance she put on the fakest smile she could muster and spoke.
“Good evening everyone, sorry to keep you all waiting but I wished that you could have started without me. I wouldn't want sensei to stave, he's getting old.”
Alkunadin groaned at her comment. This girl was more trouble than she was worth sometimes.
“I wish to be excused, pharaoh.”
The pharaoh looked at her with a bit of surprise in his eyes.
“But you just got here, don't you want to eat?”
“It's okay, I ate later than I should have before but I should have informed you sire, and I am truly sorry. “
“Fine, you have my permission to go.”
“Thank you, my lord. I am forever grateful!”
She bowed again and exited the room, leaving the room in complete silence.
The patroness spoke after the sound of he the closed door echoed through the room.
“The nerve of that girl! Showing up late, only to leave again. I simply don't know how we put up with her.
The pharaoh smirked secretly to himself, fully aware of the fact that Talibah wasn't going to show up for a while. He needed to change the subject so he could his enjoy dinner. But once again, Alkunadin beat him to it.
“Seth, the time of your sixteenth birthday draws near. You know what that means don't you?”
“Why do care old man? Don't you have anything better to do than to interfere in what doesn't concern you?”
“Seth, sooner or later you have to start looking, as much as you hate to hear this I'm afraid that you don't have a choice. The gods will and must be obeyed!”
Meanwhile, Talibah was heading out. She was in total bliss! Usually she had to sneak out of the palace in order to get out but the Pharaoh gave her official permission to leave! She knew exactly where she was going to go.
“Talibah, wait for us!”
Her best friend came running to catch up with her. He had a sack on his bag and was holding a black cat in his arm. Soon the three were off leaving behind a life they really didn't want to be chained to.
In another town somewhere in Egypt, Takara and Monifa were still on their journey. Takara had a lot of enemies after her so it seemed wise to be quite careful. They were about to enter another inn when they heard a voice calling out to them.
“If it isn't my favorite silver haired rouge and her ever willing companion, where are you two running off to?”
They both turned to see a girl dressed in commoner's clothes. She was wearing a hood to cover her black hair. The silver eyes sparkled with amusement. That voice had given her away.
“It's that nutcase we met last time” whispered Takara to her younger companion.
“What the hell are you doing here?” shouted Takara.
“Now, is that anyway to treat an old friend? I was just trying to be nice.
“Are you trying to pick a fight with me?”
“Of course not!”
“Then why are you here?”
“I'm going to join you!”
Monifa was quite pleased at her declaration. Needless to say, Takara didn't feel the same way.
“Who said you can join us?”
“Oh Takara, I need to travel and see new places. Besides, I like Moni-chan and she needs to have a positive influence in her life. She's still so young.”
“What are you implying, bitch?”
“Um, excuse me,” Monifa said “I don't see why we all can't travel together. Please Takara, can she come with us? She could be of help.”
Takara sighed but glared at the hooded girl.
“Whatever but don't pull any bullshit on me or you'll pay! Let's go in.”
They all went inside the inn and entered a room that they were to stay for the night.
Talibah decided that it was time to properly introduce herself. She threw the hood off and smiled.
“Now, that we're going to be traveling together, I won't need this…well not all the time. Well, what so you think?”
Takara looked at her. She saw a very pale girl with black braided hair. At least her eyes were pretty to look at.
“You look dead.”
An awkward silence filled the room.
“Well, that's how I am supposed to look. I really don't look like this. It's just makeup.”
“Thank the gods! There's a pitcher of water over there. I don't want to travel with someone that looks like a zombie.”
“You are blowing this way out of proportion, Takara! Monifa, do I look dead to you?”
“Not at all. You just look a little to pale. That's all.”
Talibah took a bowl to draw some water out the pitcher and washed the make up off. In the process, she also removed her braided wig and let her long braid fall past her waist.
She turned towards her audience.
“This is the real me.”
She was still light skinned but not pale. Her long raven braid stretched along her back and her silver eyes were glimmering with mischief.
“Why were you hiding all this for?” Takara couldn't imagine why any sane woman of her time would want to make herself as plain as this girl did.
“It's a secret.”
“Oh, great. I bet you looked that plain when you were at wherever the hell you're from.”
“Well, I haven't introduced myself. My name is Talibah. I used to be in training to be a priestess.
“So,” Takara said, “you're royalty or something. Wait, what do you mean by used to be?
“I quit.”
“You what?”
“Quit, stopped, renounced, shall I go on? Anyways, I wasn't supposed to be training for as long as I did but…” Talibah face looked a little solemn.
“But why?” Monifa asked with her curiosity growing.
“Sorry, you just have to wait! Besides, I think Takara owes us a story from her past.”
“No, I don't.” Takara's response was as cold as ice but it didn't scare Talibah at all.
“Don't worry Moni-chan, she'll tell us later.” Whatever sadness the girl had before seemed to vanish into thin air.
“Why do you call me Moni-chan?
“It's a nickname! I'll stop if you don't like it.”
“No, it's okay.”
“By, the way, what are we going to eat?”
All three girls went out to buy food. Talibah's friend stayed behind to watch the room. As they were walking, some man grabbed Monifa from behind.
“What a catch! You may be young but you're ripe enough to eat. My master will like someone like you!”
Monifa tried to get out of the man's grip but when all else failed; she kicked him as hard as she could in the shin. His gripped lessened and she ran off, leaving him in pain. Talibah saw the young girl run to her with slight fear in her eyes. She asked her what happened. As Monifa explained, Talibah got angry but she held her temper. The two decided to head back to the inn. Takara came in later and they all sat down to eat. Later, Takara got up and headed out but Talibah questioned her reason for her leaving at a late period of the night.
“I have business that needs to be taken care of.”
That being said, Takara left, leaving her companions to wonder what kind of business she was going out to do.
Takara continued to walk until she had reached one of the wealthiest looking houses in that city. She had been here before a long time ago. She had seen what had happened at the marketplace and she was finally going to teach the man responsible for her friend's discomfort a lesson that he'll never forget.
That's the end. I hope you enjoyed it. I will update if I get at least one review. Takara is a Japanese name. It means “a treasure.” I thought that went with her. There are other translations for her name but they are close to that. I got some books on Egypt and I'll see the Mummy again for weapon and ancient Egyptian treasure information. I may update either this or next week I have to develop the character traits of the three girls more especially Talibah. Plus I have to find out the name of all the priests in Yu-Gi-Oh! Until next time…
Later Days!
