The Aftermath

 

Seto stood behind Aria as the girl touched her brother's cooling cheek. “What do you mean he won't wake up?!”

Marik narrowed his eyes at Seto and stood up. “You stay away from my kid!” Marik barked with an angry shove at Seto. “You've done enough damage! If Aten dies, it is all your fault!”

Joey stood beside Seto. “Seto only did it to save me, Marik.”

Marik narrowed his eyes. “That still does not get him off the fucking hook!”

“Someone please call an ambulance!” Robbie cried out as he cradled Aten in his arms.

Marik narrowed his eyes at Seto. “You stay the fuck away from Aten and Aria!”

Malik tugged on Marik's shirt. “That's your boss you're telling to fuck off!”

A final growl and Marik pulled back. He turned his head and saw Bakura heading towards Yami's fallen body, his hair spiked….dagger in hand. “Back in a moment,” he snarled.

Marik walked towards Yami with Bakura.

Joey called the ambulance. “Yes, we're at Domino Park! There's a boy here who suffered a fall…..we heard a crack from him when he fell….He has a heart problem and it's very faint….Yeah, he's unconscious….”

Ryou kneeled beside his son and ran his fingers through Aten's white and blond hair. Ryou removed his shirt and placed it behind Aten's head to stop the bleeding. “It's okay, Aten. You're going to be okay, Baby boy..”

Malik looked up and saw Marik and Bakura dragging Yami into the bushes, their eyes glowing red, their hands gripping their daggers.

Marik and Bakura dragged Yami behind the bushes. Bakura grabbed the Millennium Ring and put it around his neck.

“Welcome back, precious,” he said kissing the Ring.

“We're going to make sure that nobody finds you here, pharaoh!”

Bakura grabbed Yami's collar and pulled him up. “I knew you could not win, you bastard! You threatened my daughter's life! Though I cannot kill you, I will make you fucking pay for hurting my little girl and Aten!”

Bakura took his knife and slashed it against Yami's throat. Marik narrowed his eyes and stabbed Yami's stomach.

Yami gripped his neck as Marik cut down.

Bakura growled and pinned Yami's hands above his head. “You fucked with our family for the last time, pharaoh! I'm sick of your bullshit!”

Marik narrowed his eyes. “Turn the fucker over, Itemri!”

Bakura turned Yami on his stomach. Marik cut Yami's shirt off of him with one slash of the dagger.

“What are you doing, Jibade?”

Marik snarled. “Giving this bastard a taste of what my son endured!”

Marik buried the tip of the dagger in Yami's back and let the blade cut into Yami's skin. The yami's eyes continued to glow red as the crimson slipped through the wound.

Bakura watched the grass stain with Yami's blood.

When Marik was done, he pulled back and examined his work. “There….that will do it.”

Bakura looked at the pharaoh's back. “What is it?”

Marik grinned. “I wrote him just as my Light and Aten were cut. Slowly and painfully….like my son.”

Bakura heard footsteps approaching and growled angrily. Malik stepped through the bushes and gasped at the sight of the bloody pharaoh. “Yami, what did you do?”

“I taught this bastard a lesson….he won't die…but it will certainly give him something to think about!” Marik kicked Yami over. “I won't let this bastard interfere with our family again!”

Malik's wide eyes continued to look at the body in horror.

“What do you want, Hikari Ishtar?” Bakura asked.

“Well, the ambulance…umm…is on it's way….and your daughter's water broke.”

Bakura's eyes returned to normal. “ARIA!” The white-haired yami ran out of the bushes towards his daughter.

Malik looked down at Yami's body. “You guys certainly taught him a lesson….”

Marik grinned and licked his lips. “You bet we did, hikari,” the yami smiled as he approached his Light. “We'll beat the hell out of anybody who fucks with us, my beloved…..hikari.”

Malik gasped as Marik pulled him against his body and kissed him deeply. Malik felt his yami's tongue slip into his mouth.

/Oh great….he's bloodlusted!/

The police sirens blared nearby.

Malik pushed against Marik and broke the kiss. “Yami, Aten's in trouble! We have to get back to him! The cops can't be lead here and find Yami! We'll be in a lot of trouble!”

Marik licked Malik's cheek. “Trouble makes me so hot….”

Malik rolled his eyes. “I guess I'll have to take drastic measures…” The hikari lifted his hand and slapped his Dark across the face. “SNAP OUT OF IT!”

Marik blinked and rubbed his cheek. “What the hell was that for?!”

“You were bloodlusted...and it sounds like the ambulance is here.”

Marik heard the police cars approach. “The cops are coming too! Quick, hikari, help me cover Yami's body! But first, we need his Millennium Items.”

Malik and Marik stripped Yami of the Millennium Items in his possession.

The yami quickly started to pile leaves and sticks over Yami's twitching body.

“It's been a long time since we've hidden a body together,” Malik said with a snicker.

“It's been too long, hikari,” Marik smiled.

“ISHTARS, STOP SCREWING IN THE BUSHES!” Yugi called to them. “HELP IS HERE!”

Marik grabbed Malik's hand and they ran out of the bushes. “Yugi, whatever you do, don't look in those bushes.”

Yugi looked around. “Where is Yami?”

Malik shook his head. “Trust me…you do not want to look in those bushes.”

Yugi swallowed hard. “Oh…..okay. I won't.”

Malik, Marik, and Yugi ran towards Ryou and Robbie, who were standing over Aten. The paramedics were working quickly to safely move Aten. Marik saw a second ambulance pull up.

The police were questioning Seto and Joey.

“This structure was never here before. How do you account for this?”

Seto turned to Aria. “We constructed this for a Duel Monsters game.”

The cop looked at Seto. “This structure could not have been built overnight. Where did this come from?”

“This was built a little bit ago. You didn't know about its construction?” Joey added.

“Sir, we would have known if there was construction happening in the middle of Domino Park.”

Marik walked over towards the cops and held up his Millennium Rod. “There is no structure here.”

The cops looked blankly at the Millennium Rod. “There is no structure here.”

The medics ran out of the second ambulance and were called over by Umi.

“My wife is in labor!” Umi called to them.

“MY MOMMY IS HAFFING A BABY!” Kai called to them, shaking.

The medics went to Aria sitting on the ground holding her stomach. They quickly examined her and brought out a stretcher.

“Are you her husband?” one of the medics asked Umi.

“Yes, I am!”

“Okay, would you like to ride with us to the hospital?”

Umi nodded. “I have to give my son to someone. Hold on.”

Umi ran to Glenn and Yugi. “Glenn, Yugi? Could you watch over my son while we go to the hospital?”

Glenn took Kai in his arms and cuddled him. “He's in good hands here.”

“We can watch him, too,” Joey said.

“No. I want my son where it is safe,” Umi said. “I have to go be with my wife.”

Umi ran to Aria and accompanied her into the Ambulance.

The paramedics for Aten put him on the stretcher.

“I'm going with him,” Robbie said.

“That won't be possible, sir,” the man said.

Robbie narrowed his eyes. “This is my husband and I refuse to leave his side! And I'm coming with you!”

The medics stopped short and exchanged glances. “Okay, sir….but make sure you give us room to work.”

Robbie turned to Ryou and Marik. “I'm going with him.”

Marik nodded. “I'll drive us. You be with my boy.”

Robbie followed the medics into the ambulance.

Seto turned to Marik. “We'll meet you at the hospital.”

The blond yami grabbed Seto's collar roughly. “Don't you fucking dare! You stay away from my family! Give me the Millennium Items you have.”

Seto handed him the Millennium Items.

“Now, get away from my family before I make an example out of you just like I did Yami.”

“You can't talk to me like that!” Seto growled.
”What are you going to do to me? Send Donny after me? Send Asher? Jay? Karl? Maxine? Nothing any of them can do can hurt me. I am Immortal! I've already suffered my death. I cannot be killed again. I never have to suffer death again. But you can…and if I see you near my boy, I will see to it that you suffer death. That is my last word on the matter.”

Marik turned and walked to his car.

Ryou sighed and looked up at Seto. “I'm sorry about Marik, Seto….please don't be angry at him. He's worried about Aten. You know how he can be.”

Seto nodded and took Joey's hand. “I know all too well. Goodbye, Ryou. Let's go, Joseph.”

Joey and Seto walked towards their limo.

“Let's go, Ryou, we've got to go to the hospital!”

Glenn held Kai. “Don't worry, Ryou. Kai's in good hands. Yugi and I will look after the chibi.”

“Thank you, Yugi.”

Yugi sighed. “My yami has caused so much trouble….I should be the one in Aten's condition.”

“No, Yugi….nobody should be where Aten is. Yami's crimes are not your fault. We appreciate you watching Kai for us.”

“I try to help when I can,” Yugi said with a small smile.

“RYOU, COME ON!” Bakura called from the car.

Malik took Ryou's hand. “Let's go!”

Robbie sat in the ambulance holding Aten's hand. “Baby, I'm here…”

The medics took Aten's blood pressure and checked his pulse.

“His blood pressure is dropping!”

“His pulse is failing.”

Robbie held Aten's hand tightly and kissed it. “Baby, fight it…please…I know you can.”

Robbie rubbed Aten's hand and nuzzled it against his cheek.

Robbie felt Aten's hand began to shake. He opened his eyes and saw Aten's entire body tremble.

“Aten?”

“His pulse is erratic!”

“His blood pressure just dropped twenty points!”

Robbie watched in horror as Aten's body convulsed and twitched.

“Come on, son, stay with us,” the medic said as he injected Aten with a needle.

Robbie's eyes focused on the needle and froze.

“How old is he?” a medic asked Robbie.

“He's eighteen. He has Cardiomyopathy and he took a bad fall.”

The other medic examined the back of Aten's head. “There could be some brain damage.”

Robbie sniffled. “Oh no….Aten.”

“Does he have a pacemaker?” the other medic asked.

“Yes. He's had it for about three years now.”

The medic performed CPR and breathed into Aten's mouth. “Come on, kid….”

“Aten, please!” Robbie pleaded.

The heart monitor let out a solid beep.

“He's gone into cardiac arrest!”

The other medic moved in front of Robbie as he worked with his partner.

Robbie wrung his hands nervously and wiped his eyes as the men worked feverishly to save Aten's life.

Marik pulled up to the Emergency Parking Lot. The tires screeched against the concrete as Marik slammed on the brakes. Ryou and Malik jumped out of the backseat. Marik and Bakura jumped out of the front seats.

“We can't be with both Aten and Aria at the same time!” Ryou exclaimed.

“Ryou's right! We can't be with both at once!”

Bakura took Ryou's arm. “We should be with our daughter.”

“But what about Aten?” Ryou asked nervously.

Marik took Malik's hand. “We will be with Aten. You should be with Aria, Ryou. She'll want her mother with her.”

“You guys need to be there for your daughter,” Malik added.

Ryou hugged Marik. “Pray for our son.”

Marik hugged Ryou tightly. “I have been this whole time.”

Marik and Malik ran to the Emergency Room. Ryou lead Bakura quickly to the Maternity Ward.

Marik and Marik arrived in the Emergency waiting room and went to the desk. Robbie was sitting in a chair by the door, jumping every time someone left the double doors.

“Marik! Malik!” Robbie sobbed.

Malik kneeled in front of Robbie. “How is he?”

Robbie wiped his eyes. “He went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance. They're working on him now.” Robbie leaned over and hugged Malik tightly.

“What will I do without him, Malik? What will I do?”

Malik cupped Robbie's cheek in his hands. “These people worked miracles before, Robbie. Don't give up hope that they will be able to do it again.”

Robbie hugged Malik. “I'm trying not to. I'm praying so hard for him.”

Marik put his hand on Robbie's shoulder. “I know you are, Robert.” Marik walked over to the desk.

“How is my son, Aten Bakari Ishtar?”

“He's still in surgery. Please have a seat.”

Marik narrowed his eyes. “How is my son?”

“He's still in surgery. Please have a seat.”

Malik grabbed Marik's arm and pulled him back. “Marik, let them work on him.”

“My son is in there!”

“Yami, yelling and threatening to send their souls to the Shadow Realm is not going to help us.”

“I never said I would send them to the Shadow Realm.”

Marik shook his head. “No, I know that….but I know you. You were getting ready to say that.”

Marik sat beside Robbie. “Robert….these people have done things with medicine that were never around in my day. Before Aten, I had little exposure to modern medicine. Bakura and I still to this day use our ancient methods when we get ill and we try to help our hikaris with our knowledge too. But Ryou needs modern medicine with his heart.”

Robbie lowered his head. “I shouldn't be worried….Aten wouldn't have lived back in your day if he had these problems.”

Marik nodded. “Aten would not have survived his birth if it weren't for modern medicine. I don't even know how modern medicine is keeping my boy alive. By all rights, he should have died before he was five. Here is is….eighteen years.”

“Borrowed time,” Robbie whispered. “Aten's living on borrowed time.”

Malik sat on Robbie's other side and put his arm around him. “Aten's a strong kid. He has you to live or, Robbie.”

Robbie wrung his hands nervously and prayed.

Ryou and Bakura ran to the Maternity ward. “Hello, is our daughter, Aria Kanika Tsunami in here?”

The nurse turned to another woman behind her. “Is Mrs. Tsunami in here?”

Katie turned around and smiled at Ryou. “Hi, Ryou! Hi, Bakura!”

Ryou recognized the nurse who cared for Aten while he was in the hospital during his many visits.

“Katie, is our baby in here?”

Katie giggled. “You had another one, Ryou?”

Ryou looked down at his stomach and touched it. “I hope not…..”

“Katie, our daughter is in labor and we wish to see her.”

Katie nodded. “Okay, she told me she was waiting for you.”

“Come on, yami!” Ryou exclaimed.

Katie allowed Ryou and Bakura back into the delivery room where Umi was holding her hand.

Bakura saw his daughter sitting in a birthing chair. Her face was red and she was gripping Umi's hand tightly.

Ryou and Bakura were dressed in scrubs.

“Mom! Dad!”

Ryou and Bakura ran to Aria and took her other hand.

“Baby girl, how are you?”

A female doctor walked into the room and put on latex gloves. “I'm Dr. Peters…Oh…Hello, Mr. Itemri.”

Ryou looked over and saw Robbie's doctor. “Hello. Where's Dr. Zira?”

“He's not here. I'm taking over his patients for the weekend. He's on vacation.”

Aria tensed. “He's not here? I want Zira!”

Ryou held her hand. “Baby girl, Zira isn't here. We have to do this.”

Aria's body trembled with her contractions.

Bakura wavered and held onto the chair for support. “My baby girl is having a baby…..again.”

Dr. Peters approached Aria and examined her. “You're almost fully dilated.”

Aria laid back against the chair and cried. “Gods……hurts.”

Ryou kissed her forehead. “I know it hurts, honey.”

Aria's breathing became ragged.

Ryou shook his head. “Breathe slow, baby…Breathe deep.”

Aria sobbed and turned her head to Umi. “Where is Kai?”

“I gave him to Glenn and Yugi to watch. They're safe there.”

Aria smiled. “I'm glad he's okay…..”

Dr. Peters turned to her assistants. “Alright, Aria…let's bring this baby into the world.”

Aria arched her back and cried. She squeezed her mother's hand and Umi's.

“Push with the contractions, Aria,” Peters said.

Aria grit her teeth and pushed with her contractions.

Bakura swallowed hard as he watched his daughter push with her contractions. He pet her hair and smiled. “It's going to be okay, baby girl…the pain is just temporary.”

Umi kissed her cheek and stroked her hair. “It's okay, baby…You're doing well.”

Aria pushed. “What if my baby was hurt during the duel?”

“The doctors would have known if they did a scan.”

“They did one and they said the baby was fine.”

Aria pushed and sobbed.

“The baby is crowning, Aria,” the doctor said.

Aria sniffled and gave one last push. “Gods!”

Dr. Peters caught the baby as the baby slipped out of Aria.

The doctor grabbed an instrument and the next moment, the new baby started crying.

Aria fell back on the chair and sobbed.

Ryou stepped beside Peters. “Aria….he's beautiful…..”

Umi smiled. “A boy? A baby boy?”

Ryou smiled and nodded. “Yes, Umi…a beautiful baby boy.”

Aria smiled, laughed and cried. “I want to see my little boy.”

Peters wrapped the baby up and handed him to Aria. “Here's your new baby boy.”

Aria gathered the new crying infant into her arms. “He's beautiful,” she said and kissed his forehead.

Umi smiled. “He is. We'll have to find a name for him.”

Aria smiled. “We will….right now…let's just enjoy him.”

Bakura turned to Peters. “The baby looked okay? I guess the battle didn't hurt him.”

“I'm glad he wasn't hurt.”

Ryou kissed Aria's cheek. “I'm proud of you, Aria.”

Aria snuggled her new baby boy. “Thank you, mom…but…I think you should go see Aten now.”

Ryou bit his lip. “Are you sure? I don't want to abandon you.”

Bakura put his arm around Ryou. “I will stay here with our daughter. You go see how Aten is doing.”

Ryou nodded. “Okay.”

Ryou turned and ran out of Maternity to Emergency.

He arrived at the Emergency Waiting Room and found Marik, Malik, and Robbie waiting.

Marik stood up and hugged him. “Ryou….I'm glad you're here.”

“Any news?”

“No.”

The double doors opened to the Emergency Ward and a nurse stepped through.

“Ishtar?”

Marik and Ryou looked at the nurse. “Yes?”

“You may come see Aten now.”
