Chapter 2: Discovery

Bakura blushed and helped Alicia back on the bed, "you okay?"

Alicia nodded, "I'm fine. Thanks."

Bakura scratched the back of his head, "well…uh…you sure you're not hungry? I'll fix you something if you want." Alicia shook her head and Bakura shrugged. She had a spell on him. He knew it. But he hated to admit it.

He'd just met her and she was already making him go crazy. His mind was flooding with so much stuff he wanted to stab himself in the head just to rid some of the questions and thoughts that he wanted to ask. What was she doing to him?

~*~*~*~*~

I wish he'd never let me go. But I had a feeling he would soon. I guess I got my hopes up. I hate it when I get too into stuff. But the problem is…I'm starting to really like him…and that'll just hurt him more than me…

~*~*~*~*~

What is she doing to me? This girl is some kind of man-killer! I know it! But…I wonder who was chasing her…where she's from…a lot of stuff really…I guess I'm too curious for my own good.

Sometimes Ryou Yami's personality rubs off on me…like that gesture I threw at her when I was bandaging her leg…and my curiosity…only Ryou could have such a big curiosity that it's contagious.

~*~*~*~*~

"Bakura?" She asked out of the blue.

Bakura was snapped out of his line of thought, "yes?"

"I'd like to go outside. I guess I'm kind of attached to the wilderness," Alicia said innocently. Her voice seemed like a swan gracing across the lake to him. Words rolled off her tongue like a native tongue. But he could tell Japanese wasn't her original language.

"sure. I'll have to carry you though," Bakura said. `Ryou's courage is rubbing off on me too,' he thought as he picked her up like a groom would a bride.

Alicia blushed as she rested her head against his chest. He was so warm to her…she could fall asleep. He sat her down on the porch of the front door. She looked around. He lived just on the outskirts of Domino City.

His house was small but lively. It was surrounded by forest terrain in the back and a few paths in front of the house, one obviously leading to the city.

"it's beautiful," Alicia said admiring the scenery.

"it's nothing," Bakura said, "there are a lot of other places more admirable than this. Some could be taken right out of a postcard."

"Maybe…" Alicia's voice trailed off. She turned to him and smiled, "have you been anywhere else besides here in this city?"

Bakura shook his head, "no. I've been to Egypt once but it was just to the airport and back. Nothing big. What about you? You look like the adventurous type."

Alicia stiffened, "no. I don't travel."

Bakura half shrugged, "oh…I thought you did…"

"I run." She said sternly. "I don't enjoy scenery. I've never even seen a single sunset unless it was on the run."

"Why?" Bakura asked, now interested fully.

Alicia's eyes darkened, "someone's after me. I know it. they constantly hunt me down and try to kill me. they say I know about `the past' but I'm clueless."

Bakura blinked, "the past?"

"I've got several scars from my attackers. They inflicted several injuries on me. This one on my leg is not very serious compared to the others I've gotten," Alicia said covering the scar on her upper arm.

Bakura pulled her hand aside, "where'd you get this scar?"

Alicia's eyes narrowed, "I won't say. The memory's too painful." Bakura nodded, ending the subject. Alicia shifted her eyes towards him. There was something about him that just struck her curiosity. Whether it was his mysterious appearance or the fact that he seemed too much like her.

~*~*~*~*~

I never seen someone like him…he's so quiet yet very intriguing. There's so much I want to ask him. I sighed and stood up…or tried to. I ended up just falling back on my butt.

He smiled at me for this. He was amused by my pain! Then again, so was everyone else I knew…

~*~*~*~*~

"you alright?" I asked her, holding my chuckles. Her absentmindedness was cute for her. It added to her secretive feature.

She sighed and said, "I'm fine. But what's so amusing?" I just hunched my shoulders and picked her up to go inside.

~*~*~*~*~

Bakura sat her down on the couch in the livingroom and walked over to the phone. "I'm gonna skip school to take care of you for today," he said dialing a number.

"hello?" someone said on the other end of the phone line.

"Hi Yugi," Bakura said sounding innocent, "I'm gonna have to miss school today. Could you tell the sensei for me?"

"Sure Bakura," Yugi said through the phone, "but why are you staying home?"

"I'll explain later. Can we meet in arcade after school?" Bakura asked.

"sure. I'll bring along the others. They'll be wondering after a while. See ya after school," Yugi said then a click signaled that he'd hung up.

Bakura looked over at Alicia who was asleep on the couch. She could've been mistaken as a young child for the way she slept. Bakura sat next to her sleeping form on the couch and sighed, `she's different than anyone I've met before…'

/Not that you've met many women anyway./ Ryou said through their link.

/what's that supposed to mean? I've met my fair share of women. But they were all bitches and hoes which, may I remind you, are not my type./ Bakura snapped at his Yami.

/sor-ry hikairi! Someone's snappy today! What's up with you? It's that biri isn't it?/ Ryou asked.

/no! I mean…/ Bakura's voice trailed off.

/Ah-ha! You like her don't you!? I never thought the suicidal type to be your style of girls, Hikairi./ Ryou snickered.

/She's not suicidal. Nor is she my `style' because I don't like her!/ Bakura snapped.

/we'll just see about that now won't we?/ Ryou said smugly.

Suddenly a blinding light illuminated from Bakura's Millennium Ring. A dark tent formed over Bakura showing that Ryou had taken over his body. Ryou examined Alicia as she slept.

/not a bad choice, hikairi. She's cute./ Ryou smirked as he spoke to Bakura through their link.

/don't you hurt her, Ryou! She's gone through enough!/ Bakura warned.

/and what will you do? I'm in control, remember?/ Ryou said with a snicker.

Alicia opened her eyes to see Ryou. She jumped up and sighed in relief, "oh…it's only you, Bakura…"

Ryou snickered once again, /she thinks I'm you!/

/no duh! You're in my body!/ Bakura snapped.

/shut the heck up hikairi!/ Ryou growled.

Alicia rubbed her aching leg. She gasped as she noticed that the bandage was soaked in blood. She shot her head up and looked out the window. Rain. `he's here…' She stood up and winced in pain as her wound stretched, letting blood spill more into the bandage.

Ryou stood up and was about to help her when, "no!" came from her mouth. Ryou's eyes widened.

/what's wrong with her, hikairi!? Is she crazy!?/ Ryou yelled in panic at his light.

/so she's affected you too?/ Bakura said, a smirk visible in Ryou's mind.

Alicia walked towards the door ignoring the pain in her leg, `I've got to get away from Bakura…he'll get hurt! I know it…'

Ryou rushed to her side, "are you crazy!? You shouldn't be on your leg!" Alicia glared at him. Her eyes were dark and painful. If looks could kill he'd be suffering a brutal, slow, painful, and tormenting death.

"Stay here," she said simply. She reached the porch when her leg gave way and it snapped underneath her. He was close now. Her wounds always got severe when he was near. His image stood above her with a bloody knife in hand. The knife was the same that he had before. He'd obviously not washed it.

Ryou rushed outside and punched the guy. The man fumbled on the ground and onto the grass next to the porch. Ryou picked Alicia up and ran inside. He placed her on the couch and locked the door.

He sighed and walked over to Alicia. "you crazy or something, bitch!?" he yelled.

Alicia gasped. He'd never called her that. And his voice was so terrifying. She trembled at the sound of his voice. Alicia turned her attention to her leg. It was obviously broken. She WAS crazy for doing that. But she didn't care what tactics she took anymore.

She cringed as the pain from her leg intensified. Blood spilled from the tears in the bandage and onto the wooden floor. She looked over at Ryou, much to her dismay, he was looking out the window obviously watching for her stalker.

"He's still here," Alicia said. She groaned as a sharp serge of pain shot through her broken leg, "my wound's getting worse. That means he's not gone yet."

Ryou looked at her in both confusion and horror, "why is that? does he have some sort of spell on you?"

"No…it's not that. It's because-" Alicia was cut off as the door fell with a crash. The two turned to the doorway to see a cloaked figure in the door. It was her attacker. He ran over to Alicia and rose his dagger. Ryou ran to her aid only to be stabbed in the chest by the man's dagger.

Ryou fell back, his eyes dull. He grasped his wound as blood soaked his shirt and dripped in his hand, `who is this sick bastard?'

Alicia screamed as the man's dagger fell to meet her arm. He pulled it from her flesh and made another wound in her neck then her chest. Alicia, obviously still alive, grabbed the man's wrist with her movable arm and snapped it in two. The man screamed in pain as his dagger fell from his grip. His hood fell to reveal two emerald green eyes like Alicia's.

Alicia gasped, "Makaru!?"

Ryou, now on his knees glared at the man…or boy, "Makaru? You mean you know this guy's name!?"

"I don't just know his name," Alicia's eyes darkened, "he's my brother."
