Disclaimer: Yugi and Yami are not mine, if they were, I would surely undress them and take lots of pictures. Joey and Tristan are not mine, if they were, they would surely be Yami's bondage love slaves. Tea is not mine, if she was, I would kill her...repeatedly...

Notes: I have tried to refrain from senseless Tea bashing....but its so very hard!

Broken Reality
Chapter 9: Return

Her right hand came across his face, landing a smack hard enough to turn his head.

"I hate you Yugi Motou! I hate you!"

Yugi stared. Slowly he brought a trembling hand to his stinging cheek. Suddenly a hand was on his shoulder. Yami, red eyes narrow in anger, grabbed him, pushing him behind his own back. Standing protectively in front of his light, he glared at Tea.

"Don't you ever," he shouted, "ever touch him!"

"I...I...," Tea stuttered, having never faced such an emotion from the normally silent Yami, "I'm sorry."

"Yes," he answered coldly, "you are. Now get out."

"But--"

"Out!"

With a sound that was almost a growl, Tea pushed past him, slamming the door hard enough to knock a picture from the wall.

Yami felt small hands clutch at the back of his shirt. Yugi sniffled a little, trying not to cry. Yami turned, gathering the boy against his chest, gently running his fingers through his hair in what he hoped was a calming manner. Yugi soon was quiet.

"Aibou?"

The boy just shook his head, buried in Yami's shirt, unable to speak.

"Forget her Yuge," Tristan said, "she'll get over it. As far as me, well, I'm happy for you guys. So just, just ignore her."

"Thank you," Yami replied.

"I have to go after her," Yugi muttered, turning away from Yami to head for the door only to have his arm caught by his love.

"No."

"No?"

"You're not going after her."

Yugi stared, hands tightening into fists. "Now you're giving me orders?! I thought we were done with this Yami! I am not a child. I'm going."

And he did, slamming closed the door and their bond.

"Damnit!" Yami swore, but it turned into a heavy sigh. Already he had broken his promise. He looked to Tristan with sorrow, "Already I broke my promise."

"Going after him?"

"Yes--no, no. It would only make it worse. He'll come back."

Yugi pushed the door bell once again, the chimes echoed through the house. A moment later Tea's mother opened the door.

"Is Tea home?"

"She's in her room, but I don't think--"

"Please let me talk to her," he begged before she could even offer an explanation, he didn't need one.

Tea's mother smiled. The little one before her had brought comfort to her daughter more than once. He was a sweet boy. "Come on in, upstairs--oh, you know where it is."

He nodded in thanks before making his way up the stairs. On the right was Tea's bedroom. The door was half open, peeking through he saw Tea sitting on her bed. In front of her were spread lots of picture. One by one she lifted them in front of her and ripped them. Slowly, he stepped inside.

"Tea?"

She turned to face him. There were big tears dripping down her cheeks, her eyes were red and puffy, and her nose was running. Tea was not a pretty crier. Walking closer, he saw exactly what she was doing. She had childishly removed Yugi from every picture.

"I hate you," she stated.

"I'm sorry Tea," he fidgeted, having nothing to busy his hands as he stood in the middle of the room.

"Have you been in his bed?" she whispered, ripping a picture down the center. "You have, I can tell."

"Tea--"

"You're nothing to him, nothing but a little slut," she laughed, too high and too loud. "Not even grown and already on your way to being a whore."

"No!"

She stood, walking to stand in front of him, pushing back a strand of her hair. "You're probably not even good. He doesn't want you, you're too little, just a baby."

"I am not!" he slapped her hand away as she made to pat his head.

"Yes you are and that is perfect for me. Once he's done robbing the cradle, he'll come to me. I'll love him properly, like you could never do."

"No!" Yugi gasped, clasping his hands over his ears. It would never, never be that way. Turning, he rushed from the room, Tea's harsh words still reaching him.

"Go on baby! Run away! I'll have your precious Yami no matter what!"

The light faded quickly from the sky and night found Yami sitting alone. For the last hours he had watched the window but no one had come. Yugi was still gone. Standing, he began to pace back and forth across the living room carpet. From the doorway Grandpa watched him, not wanting to intrude but hating to see him in so much pain. Finally the old man went to bed; Yami did not.

It was well past nine when Joey opened his door to find Yugi waiting outside. His hair was mussed and his eyes were tired. Quietly he asked if he could come in.

"I don't think its a good idea Yuge, I'm real tired and--"

"Please," he whispered, turning his face upwards.

Joey sighed, stepping back and letting him walk inside. Together they sat on the sofa, TV on but muted.

"I just don't know what to do!" Yugi lamented, having told his story in complete.

Joey stared intently at his hands, a bright blush covering his cheeks as it had since Yugi began to explain. A terrible image of his best friend propped naked on a bucket burned itself into his mind and that wasn't the worst part. Not at all.

"Yuge, I can't tell ya' what to do."

"Well, what would you do if you were me?"

"Probably talk to me," he laughed, knowing it wasn't funny.

"Joey! I know he's so mad at me. Well, what would you do if you were Yami?" His honest plea caused their eyes to meet, not letting Joey's next words be denied as anything less than truth.

"If I were Yami, I would hold you and never let you go," and then his lips were on Yugi's. It was quick and light and even when it was over he couldn't be sorry.

Wide eyes stared at him in nothing short of shock.

"I love you," it slipped out before he could stop it. "I'm sorry! Gods, Yugi, I'm so sorry. You don't need this now. I'm so stupid, I ju--"

"Joey."

He stopped babbling, willing to stare at the floor and await his punishment. It was so wrong for him to love this boy, but his heart didn't seem to think so.

Yugi took his hand, there were tears in his eyes as he spoke kindly. "You're my best friend, and nothing will ever change that, right?"

"Right," he sniffed a little, realizing that he was crying and hating himself for it.

"I love Yami and I would never do anything to jeopardize that, but I'm not mad at you. I think...I think its kind of sweet Joey."

"You forgive me?"

"Yeah, I forgive you."

And the hug that followed was just between friends, and Joey realized that it would have to be enough.
