Chat-Room

--Chat Three--

It's been some time, hasn't it? Seems like years.” There was a small sigh from the other line. “Anyways, I didn't call for friendly chit-chat. I need to ask you a few things.”

The uneasy feeling in the back of Hikaru's mind seemed to grow a hundred times stronger after he heard Atemu utter those words.
Glancing out the bedroom door, he looked into the den and found Anzu sitting at the computer and typing as fast as her hands would allow. Retreating back into his room he closed the door behind him, carefully making sure that it was locked. He then sat back down on the bed. “What is it?” he hissed into the phone.

Atemu took his time with answering, despite the distressed tone of the other vampire's voice. “I met someone today,” he explained. “And I think she's the one I've been searching for.”

Hikaru raised an eyebrow, trying not to sound nervous as he asked his next question. “You're still searching for it then? I don't see the purpose, Atemu. We already have eternal life, and humans already fear us...you're probably even feared by most of our kind. What need is there for power when you already have it?”

It may be okay with you to be just feared, but that's not enough for me. You've known me the longest out of all other vampires I've met, so you should know that very well by now.” Atemu chuckled. “I want respect if I am to rule. And I want enough power to stay ruling even after the human race has been extinguished. And through it all, I want only two people by my side when my kingship officially begins.”

“And who, dare I ask, might those to people be?”

You should be flattered to know that one of them is you.”

“And why would you choose me out of all the other vampires in Hell?”
Hikaru could tell that Atemu was smirking on the other end. There was a small noise of contemplation before the other replied.

You're my confidant. Even though we haven't exactly been on the best terms as of late, you're still the only vampire I can really trust. Together we're an unstoppable team, too. You know that no one could stand a chance against our united powers.”

The silver-haired vampire sighed. He was, in truth, bored with Atemu's plans for conquering both races. He had heard enough of it back when he had been a friend with the other. It was a ridiculously far-fetched scheme, and he knew Atemu would never be able to reach the goal. “So who is this other person you want by your side?”

Well Hikaru, if I'm going to be a king...it would only be fitting if I had a queen sitting by me, correct?”

OOOOOOOO

Anzu typed and typed, already on the last page of her paper on vampires. Then she heard Hikaru close his door with a quick snap. She listened, but there were no other noises. She turned, staring at his door before shaking her head. There was nothing to worry about besides finishing her paper.

But...

Anzu sighed, placing her head on her hand; staring at the laptop screen with a blank _expression. 'Hikaru... seemed quite shaken there... What could be wrong now?' Anzu knew Hikaru for quite a while, and never had she seen him flinch when something bad happened. The silver-haired vampire seemed to always have a cool, neutral mask on. Though, when it came to weird people approaching her, she could feel a deadly energy seeping from him.

Although it slightly irked her, Anzu, in a way, didn't know Hikaru thatwell. They had met when she was only six years old and he was... well, she didn't know since he never mentioned his age; and then he suddenly left for a long time. They met again when she was fifteen, just last year ago. He had seemed the same...and yet he had seemed so very different.

His demeanor seemed colder than it used to be, and he didn't talk that much as he did before. He seemed more... distant. Like he wanted to protect her by putting this gap between them, and only communicate from afar.

Anzu realized suddenly that she had spaced out and that she still needed to finish her report. Cursing softly under her breath, she began typing the document again.

There was nothing to worry about, right?

OOOOOOOO

Atemu's words sunk into Hikaru like white-hot daggers. 'Remember how to breathe, Hikaru... Well not that you need to, but dammit, just breathe...' he thought, sucking in the air through gritted teeth.

It didn't work.

He heard a dark, cold chuckle on the other end that made the leash on his temper nearly snap. God damn his cruelty to the bowels of Hell!

"Aww, what's wrong, Hikaru..? Cat got your tongue?" Atemu asked, obviously holding back his laughter. His voice was mocking, and he was obviously amused by his fellow vampire's reaction to this information.

Hikaru silently cursed. "Shut up, Atemu. Just tell me who the hell you chose."

There was another scornful chuckle. "Why? So you could try and protect her, Hikaru?" Atemu asked.

Hikaru's eyes narrowed dangerously into slits. He knew about Atemu's little habit of using innocent peoples' blood to obtain more power, and whenever he heard of Atemu's next victim, he tried everything in his power to protect that person. But Atemu would always be one step ahead of him. Hikaru would always end up in a room with a dead body on the ground, two puncture holes on her neck. And the silver-haired vampire could faintly hear Atemu's cold and cruel laughter in his head, mocking him.

"Just tell me who, Atemu. Stop playing this game!" he roared, the leash on his temper teetering on a fragile thread.

"Oh, but the game's just begun, Hikaru. My newest victim is a truly delectable brunette woman. Her name is Anz--"

Hikaru slammed the phone down before Atemu could finish his sentence. The silver-haired vampire breathed heavily, glaring down at the phone as if daring it to ring again. It didn't and he visibly relaxed, flopping back down on his bed and placing his hand on his forehead.

'Damn him... Damn him for doing this! What made him change from the friend that I knew...? Why did he start to seek out power...?' he thought quietly to himself. Then he heard his door open and Anzu walked in, holding what looked like seven pages of her report. She smiled shyly and held out the papers.

"Finally, I'm done with this stupid report, Hikaru. Thanks for letting me use your computer. I'm ready to go home now." she said to him.

Hikaru sat up straight and stared at her for a few moments before nodding his head. She smiled again and left his doorway, her chestnut-colored hair flowing behind her. After a few moments after she left, Hikaru sighed, raking a hand through his hair.

It had to be a coincidence. It just had to. Anzu was a common name...and there were probably many brunettes with that name. His Anzu wasn't the one Atemu was after...she just couldn't be. Not his Anzu. Not his sweet, caring and innocent Anzu.

It just had to be a coincidence.

OOOOOOOO

Atemu stared down at his phone for a few minutes, wondering if Hikaru would have the audacity to call back. He didn't think so, and it turned out he was right. The phone never once rang during the short while he stood glaring at it.

`It seems Hikaru is going to be in my way again this time. I thought offering him a position of power would get him to stop this stupid nonsense and finally join me, but I guess I was wrong. It doesn't really matter, though.' Atemu smirked and exited his apartment. `Once I have the girl I won't need anyone else.'

Striding back over to his computer desk, he sat down and signed on to the internet. Once connected, he clicked on the button to compose an e-mail.

Hey Anzu,

It's me, Yami. Look I know we just met and all and I know this will sound really crazy, but I'd really like to meet you. I felt like we connected somehow while talking today. We have so much in common that I had a hard time believing that you were a real person and not some simulator made by KaibaCorp. Anyways I have a few days off work this week, so if you'd like to meet me in person too, then please e-mail me back and we can set up some sort of date.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Yami

Atemu smirked after sending the e-mail. He knew for sure that her answer would be a `yes.' No mortal woman could withstand the power over his amazingly good looks and charm. That's why so many of them had fallen victim to his game...women were easily seduced, especially the mortal women of this era. They trusted anyone, it seemed.

The tri-haired vampire was expecting a reply from Anzu to come the next day. And if all went well he could probably meet her, get her into his bed, and suck her dry of the powerful blood that flowed through her veins by the end of the week. If all went well. Sometimes it was even more fun to have a chase, though.

Exiting his office, Atemu wandered down the hallway and into his room. Glancing out the window, he could see his next-door neighbor staring out of her bedroom window and into his. Smirking, he purposely walked closer to the window and began to remove his clothing, pretending that he hadn't even noticed her watching him.

Then after changing into his nightshirt, he turned his head too look outside. She was still watching him, her face covered by a heated blush. Atemu smiled and waved to her and then closed the certain. After rolling his eyes he laid down on the bed to relax.

`Yes...if Anzu is anything like that Vivian Wong girl next door, then this will be all too easy.'
