Oh, and for those of you with requests, I can't reveal anything to you now can I? Hopefully this will satisfy some of you.
Edit: I hate autofix, ya know the thing that fixes your words for you automatically. :: head to desk::
Chapter 22: Advice
You're early this time, not that I mind. We situate in the living room. You ask how I'm feeling and I say better. You ask what the chapter will be like this time and I respond that sadly this chapter of our story is a little sadder than most of them, but just a little. You ask me why and I just shake my head and tell you to listen. I open the book which I had put into the room the day before, so that we wouldn't have to go hunting for it today, and began to read.
The sun spilled into the room and the young girl sleeping within the soft arms of the blanket scrunched up her nose, although on her lips played a smile. It had already been an entire month since her plan had reached it's “first stage of fulfillment'. Her favorite boys were happily engaged with each other. Admitted outside of school she was left alone now, a lot, and she had taken the liberty to look around town. She had even met the famous Seto Kaiba. She didn't understand why her brother held such animosity towards him. Either way, inside of school she had the young boys all to herself, her brother and his friends were still stubbornly asking her cute little friends to pretend to hate each other within school boundaries.
Yumi opened her eyes and glares at her wooden ceiling. She was very upset about this, and somewhere in the back of her mind she told herself she had no right to hurry them. After all, she had never been popular, she had never had that horrible pressure on her. With a sigh she closed her eyes and let herself roll out of bed, which wasn't very high seeing as she had requested just a mattress, not a futon, was put up for her in the attic.
Her eyes traveled to the calendar.
“January,” she whispered as she let her hand trail around the picture of the adorable little kittens.
A sadness engulfed her and she felt it burn at the back of her eyes. She barely had two months left in Japan, with her brother, and her new family. The bitter irony of the situation was branded on Yumi's mind. When she had first moved she had thrown a tantrum trying to stay at home, in the United States, and now…when she finally had a way out, she didn't want to take it anymore.
“At least I left something useful behind,” she commented as she thought on her friends, the few friends she did have.
Ever since the beginning, when she had first been introduced to the boys she had sensed potential, a spark, a secret longing that she knew they would be able to fill up for each other. Yumi had been nudging them along the entire time, she was the one to suggest to the teachers that Bakura be tutored by Ryou. Yumi had played the part of the concerned friend who desperately wanted him to graduate with her and her other “popular” friends. The teachers of course had fallen in love with the idea.
Malik's bike, Yumi had tried to avoid it, after all, she was taking a HUGE gamble with this. There was the chance that she had been wrong about Marik, or that the bike thing would not work right, or that Malik would've been the only one at the scene. In the end it had worked, again thanks to Yumi.
Nudging Yami and Yugi along had been the easiest, after all, Yami lived with her which gave her an enormous amount of power.
Yumi chuckled darkly as she stripped off her boxers and nightshirt, pulling on her daily attire. She wasn't going to school, not because she was skipping but it was a weather day and her friends were all busy. Ryou and Bakura were spending quality time together, although Yumi wasn't entirely sure that they're quality time was…..”decent”. She shook her head and laughed, Ryou had more control than that.
She walked down the stairs and passed her brothers room which she knew was empty, they were at the Game Shop, playing cards most likely. Both of them were strangely addicted to Duel Monsters, she just didn't understand why.
She crept down the hall, her bare feet tingling as the icy cold stone touched her feet. She wasn't sure if her parents were still home and if they were she didn't want to disturb them. Her feet touched the carpeted stairs but she didn't relax. All of a sudden she had forgotten which stairs creaked when you stepped on them. With a relived sigh she reached the bottom step and winced as she heard it creak.
“Go figure,” she muttered as she walked into the kitchen. Her eyes scanned the room and fell onto a sticky note on the counter. She walked across the kitchen and picked up the note, it was addressed to her.
Yumi-chan,
Your father and I have been invited to out neighbors for dinner, we would've asked you to come but this was a spur of the moment thing and you looked so cute sleeping in your bed (This was accompanied by small hearts ). We will be gone until 5 PM most likely. Your brother and his boy friend should be home around 4: 30 or later, depending on what they're doing. (this was accompanied by a smiley winking)
Love you sweety!
Mom
Yumi glanced at the clock and noticed she would have the house to herself for another 6 hours. She briefly thought about the lonely hours and thought maybe she shouldn't have brought the boys together. She scolded herself immediately. The house creaked a little as she stepped on the wooden floor boards. Yumi headed towards the downstairs bathroom and flicked on the light. She pulled back her hair and glared at herself in the mirror.
“Don't be selfish,” her reflection said.
“I'm trying…but it seems they're spending every moment with each other,” Yumi said.
“Yes but isn't that what you wanted? Their happiness?” her reflection shot back.
“True…but… I can't help but feel a little… lonely…” Yumi said ending the conversation with herself by turning away and ignoring the shouts she heard from her.
Yumi sighed and walked through the empty house in a cloud of misery. She tried to lift her spirits as she headed back up to her room.
`This is what you wanted…' she told herself as she pushed open the door to her room.
A sharp pain shot through her body as her eyes landed on the letter that held the most hurtful betrayal she had ever felt in it.
`Why do they get happiness and I don't? Where's my angel?' she thought jealously and bitterly.
A sad sigh escaped her as she gently slapped herself. This wasn't right. She should be happy for the happiness that she had brought to her friends and brother. They deserved it.
“So why can't I just be happy for them?” she asked herself as she gazed at the full body mirror in her room.
Her hand ran through her hair as she took herself in.
“A blond huh?” she remarked as she tugged at the long locks of her hair.
She glanced down at the rest of her body and had to bite her lip to keep from crying. She let her hands trail down her body, tugging at every bit of flesh that she thought she had too much of. She cupped her breasts and let out a small hiccup. She let her hands fall to the side as she let her body lower. She kneeled and buried her head in her hands not being able to keep back the flood. Yumi rubbed viciously at her eyes trying to get the crying to stop. In her mind she imagined large iron doors closing on her heart, chains tugging it down into the darkness, barriers being put up but for some reason it wasn't working.
A good half an hour passed before she could control herself. Her eyes traveled to the mirror and she almost hissed in shame. Her eye liner had dripped down her cheeks. She jumped as she heard the phone ring and thanked the Gods that were watching her that she had stopped crying. She ran towards the phone and picked it up.
“Hello? Yumi speaking,” she said in a controlled tone.
“Yumi, we need your advice,” the clear voice of Bakura said.
“We?” she asked.
“Yeah, I've got Marik and Yami on the phone too,” Bakura responded and a meek hi came from the two boys he had mentioned.
“Now you needed my advice?” Yumi asked as she pulled the phone with her as she seated herself onto her bed.
“Yeah…things aren't going so well…Yugi, Ryou, and Malik are depressed, especially at school and it's cutting into their school work and into our time together,” Marik said as Bakura restated the school work part after Marik.
The schoolwork was especially serious in Ryou's case, seeing as if he didn't stay top of the class he wouldn't be able to attend the school.
“I think I may know what's… “bothering” them,” Yumi said coming to a conclusion quickly, not that it was difficult. She shook her head wondering at the level of stupidity that her friends and brother had.
“What?” the three chorused together.
“How do you treat them at school? You flirt with others, you almost ignore them, and you are rude to them. How do you think that makes them feel? I'd say your only solution is to come out into the open,” Yumi said simply and as emphasis she added a loud sigh at the end of her sentence.
“But our reputations! Life will be hell for us if they find out…we'd probably lose all our friends,” Bakura pointed out.
Yumi sighed and pulled at her hair, “ A: If these people would ditch you for that they're not you're friends for real now are they? B: True love although it can make you feel full of life, and happy is also a source of great pain. If you truly love them…don't toy with them like this. What do you think life has been for them? Besides, you'd still have each other and them…and honestly, who's more important, your reputation or your loved one? To truly love someone one must be willing to make sacrifices for them.”
Yumi shook her head and shuddered, when had she become such a sap?
“That's something to think about, but…don't take too long or you just might loose them forever,” Yumi said as she hung up and closed her eyes, falling asleep on her mattress.
I close the book and sigh. Yes, even Yumi has her moments of doubt. She's not perfect you know. You agree but still say that she should let herself cry more often, and maybe get out more. I laugh and shake my head. We talk for awhile, as we did at the beginning and then you have to leave. I wave my hand as you leave and wait for the next day so that we may continue our story.
