Ecstasy

The Panasonic Princess

Lyrics from Maroon5's "Tangled".

To my mediaminer readers:

There is a reason that I'm updating twice today: I feel like it. ^.^

No, that's not it. The Big-Ass Fanfiction Contest is starting in October, and I want to get this whole thing out in time. I currently have six and a half chapters written, and I know if I leave this to the last second, I'll forget and won't have enough time. Just thought I'd try to catch up with my postings on my yugioh group on yahoo. I'm up to chapter six there. That should make you all happy.

Read on!

Chapter four:

Tangled

~*~

There is nothing left to say to you

That you wanna hear

That you wanna know

I think I should go,

The things I've done are way too shameful…

And I've done you so wrong

Treated you bad

Strung you along

Oh, shame on myself

I don't know how I got so tangled up…

~*~

What exactly Bakura was thinking as he stood in the doorway, gaping like an idiot, Marik wasn't sure. All kinds of emotions were flashing across the albino's face-he seemed to be caught between humor and horror. He stepped inside and closed the door behind him.

"So…" he said, apparently finding his voice (albeit just a little high pitched), "How long has this been going on?"

"About a day," Marik replied. Bakura laughed.

"A little eager, are we, Marik?" he snickered, "Well, you'd better keep this from Yami. You know how his jealous streaks can get."

"Jealous streaks?" Yugi echoed, "What do you mean?"

Marik laughed quietly to himself. His kitten was so naïve, so oblivious…

"He wants you, Yugi," Bakura replied, "He's always wanted you. Why do you think he got so bent out of shape when you started dating Ryou? He was jealous. He'd do anything to make you his."

Yugi looked a little doubtful (startled, yes, but doubtful).

"Are you sure, Bakura?" he asked, "He seems so happy with you. Why would he ever want to give you up for me?"

"Oh, he's not planning to give me up," Bakura laughed, "He wants all three of us to be together. I tried to talk him out of it, but he wouldn't listen. You know how hardheaded he can get. When he wants something, he won't stop until it's his," here, he paused for a moment, "I should be getting back. You two be careful about this, I mean it…"

He turned and left. Marik drew his kitten into his arms and held him tightly.

Yami… this is officially war. There's no way in hell that I'll ever let you win…

Yami crossed his arms and stared out at the crowd, searching for any sign of his hikari. He didn't like it. The way Yugi had looked at that blonde slaughterer… oh, how he would love to have that look aimed at him! But it was useless. Yugi was obviously with Marik.

What "with" entitled, he wasn't sure. He doubted his light would be so stupid as to sleep with Marik so soon in their relationship, but…

But what if this relationship isn't as new as I think? He found himself thinking frantically, What if he's been dating Marik for months-years now, even! If it's like that, I could have an even harder time winning him over. It matters not. There's nothing that Marik can offer him that I can't offer ten times better. Yugi will be with me tonight.

He smiled as said hikari came back, looking suspiciously disheveled. Marik was nowhere in sight. This was the chance that Yami had been waiting for. No one was here to interrupt them. Yami could convince him to spend the night with him and no one would be able to intervene…

He enveloped Yugi in a friendly hug as the teen sat down, and he noticed that the light was just a little tense. Had he been frightened? Had something happened with Marik?

"Hikari?" he said softly, and Yugi turned his head to look at him, "Are you okay? You seem tense."

"Oh, I… I'm fine."

But he was certainly not okay. Yami frowned and slid out of the table, pulling his hikari with him amidst many protests. Yami found a door and went out it, ending up in what seemed to be a hallway. Only then did he let go of his light's hand.

"Yami, what was that about?" Yugi cried when he finally regained control of his own arm, "What is it?"

Butterflies in his stomach, Yami looked him in the eyes and grabbed him around the waist, pulling him close. Yugi gasped.

"Yugi… I love you," Yami whispered in his hikari's ear, "I want you to be with me and Bakura. I want you to be mine and me to be yours. I've loved you since the moment I felt you for the first time. Your soul is so beautiful and I've fallen in love with it… with you."

Yugi froze, began to stammer. Yami slowly backed him up against the wall, covering his hikari's body with his own.

"Yami, I…" but the words seemed to die in Yugi's throat, and Yami took the opportunity to bend down and kiss him lightly on the mouth.

The mere feeling of Yugi's lips on his was intoxicating. He deepened the kiss, pressing the small body harder against the wall, his hand slipping from the light's waist to his leg. Yugi seemed frozen in his grasp, and Yami moved his hand to his knee, pulling his hikari's leg up to wrap around his waist. The little light didn't respond, and Yami grew nervous. Was he doing something wrong?

He pulled back. Yugi, panting slightly, stared at him, astonishment in his eyes.

"Yami… I can't..." he stammered, trying to push the dark away. Yami released him, letting him scramble away from the wall.

"Yugi-"

"Yami, that shouldn't have happened," Yugi said, "I… I can't be with you. I'm really sorry. You know it would never work…"

"Why? Why wouldn't it work?" Yami asked, desperate, "I love you. What wouldn't work about that?"

"I…" Yugi hesitated, and Yami took the opportunity to say more.

"You love me, don't you? You've told me you did. We… love each other. Why wouldn't we work?"

"I… I can't…"

"Why? Why can't I be with you? Please, just tell me why and I'll leave you alone. I want you to be happy, Yugi, but I can't just leave these feelings alone without good reason. Please."

Yugi's eyes ascended to meet Yami's, and the dark saw the pain in them. They filled with tears, and Yami stepped forward to take his hikari into his arms.

"Yugi, we belong together. We're two of a kind. Darkness and light. We would be so perfect with each other. I can make you so happy. Why won't you let me?"

Those pretty violet eyes were looking into his again, and Yami resisted the urge to kiss the tears out of them. Yugi stayed unresisting in his arms. Yami could smell the scent of the teen's shampoo.

"Yami, I… I'm confused…"

"That's okay. I can help you. I can make everything right again," Yami promised, "I want to be with you. I'll plead for the rest of my life, Yugi, if I have to. Please."

But Yugi shook his head slowly.

"I don't think I can. Not right now. I'm… I'm kinda involved with someone."

It was like a knife to the heart.

"… oh."

Yami stayed quiet, his mind seething. Yugi was choosing Marik over him.

I don't understand it, he thought, What does he see in him? What does he have that I don't? What can he give him? Why would Yugi ever want to be with him?

"Do you… love him?" Yami asked quietly, his voice almost deadly.

Yugi blinked, confused.

"What?"

"Do you love him? What are your feelings for him?"

"Well, I-wait a second! How did you know it was a him?"

Oops…

"Well, I guessed, I suppose. But you didn't answer my question."

"Oh, that…" Yugi blushed slightly, "Do I love him? Well… I'm not sure. I guess I could, but it's only a possibility. We haven't been together for all that long."

Hope rose in the darkness's heart and he resisted the urge to shout his relief. But as he was about to reply to his hikari, a flash of dusty blonde caught his eye, and he turned his head to see Marik Ishtar standing before them. Yami's arms dropped from Yugi's waist immediately.

"There you are, Yugi," Marik said, "Malik was looking for you. He lost an earring, and he needs all the help he can get."

Yugi stepped away and followed him. When Yami didn't follow, he turned back to him.

"Are you coming?" he asked. Yami shook his head.

"No, I… I've got things I need to take care of. I'll catch up later."

Yugi nodded, and turned back around. Yami watched him until his form disappeared.

He leaned against the wall beside him and slid down it, his heart finally having had enough.

Bakura's eyes narrowed in confusion when Marik and Yugi came back into the main room alone. Had Yami given up? Was it over?

Worry settled in the thief's stomach, and he headed for the door the new couple had come out of.

By the time he reached his lover, Yami had already curled up on the floor, hugging his knees.

"Yami?"

The ex-pharaoh looked up, his eyes bloodshot and his cheeks blotchy. Bakura's heart nearly broke for him.

"Oh, Yami… it's okay," the albino sat next to him, wrapping his arms around the thin body, "It's not the end of the world. Yugi is happy with Marik. You should be-"

"You knew?"

The once calm, collected voice cracked with emotion and sounded raspy. Bakura smacked himself mentally.

"Yami, it's not like that-"

"You knew and you didn't tell me?"

He clambered to his feet, rage evident in his posture. Crimson eyes bore into his own, and Bakura suddenly wished he hadn't said anything at all…

"Koibito, listen to me-"

"No! You knew, and yet, you let me make a fool of myself! You knew he was with him!"

"Will you just-"

"I'm leaving," Yami snapped, and turned on his heels, "I can't believe you. Of all the people… you were the last one I expected to betray me like this. I trusted you. Maybe… maybe you haven't changed after all."

He stalked off, leaving a devastated Bakura behind.

"Yami, wait! You don't understand!"

But he was gone.

This was soooo hard to write! I had three drafts before I choose this one. That's why it took so long. I'll try to get out chapter four as soon as I can, I promise! And it'll be written better!

Next time: Yugi finds out Yami has left, and go home to talk to him, but he's mysteriously missing… Can the group find him before he does something he'll regret?
