Chapter 2: Assassination Mishap
Savira's POV
Hah! That was too easy. Posing as a messenger was just too perfect. Those fools, if they didn't take warning of mine seriously, then they'll regret it.
I thought these things to myself as I made my way back to the shop. I had changed to blue clothing as of now. After all, they'll now be searching for me as 'the messenger'. Once inside the room I rented, I turned my hair black, and my eyes emerald.
Now, I opened up my journal and began to draw how I pictured to see the pharaoh when I killed him. Lying on the ground, with a dagger in his heart? Nah, slit throat is more my style. Anyways, his body was in the middle of the room, while his severed head had rolled away a few feet when I cut it off.
A pool of blood surround the body. As for his head, the eyes were small, pale, and empty. The mouth hung agape. As I drew on, I became relaxed and tranquil. Once I had finished, I marveled at it for a moment smiling, then stuck it in the back of my journal, and hid it away using magic. I walked over to my bed, layed on top of it, and rested till it was time.
Normal pov
Atemu was sound asleep; Yamira really did a number on him. How? I'll leave that up to your imagination.
Meanwhile, Savira was hidden in the royal garden on the opposite side of the palace. At the moment, her red garments were doubling as stealth armor.
Earlier she had stolen the garbs of a palace servant to wear when she assumed the form of one, and would blend in with the night shift. She snuck in through the servants' quarters. She had hid her stealth garbs in a bush by the entrance. She went to the kitchen and put her plan into motion. Once done there, she walked the hallways followed the palace maps which she had memorized off the wall during her earlier visit.
While doing so, she came by the guards' armor room. A wicked gleam came to her eye. She assumed the form of one of the guards, and put on the armor. And as if by luck, a line of guards came by.
Savira slipped in unnoticed. She followed them throughout the palace, checking the rooms for the anonymous scroll sender as if they had returned to finish the job described on the scroll. Savira scoffed at their stupidity under her breath.
Soon, they come to the Queen's, Atemu's mom, room. She was lying on her bed in a sleeping formation. There was a wine glass on the floor. Apparently she was drinking out of it when she fell asleep. Then, one of the guards shifted uneasily as they noticed something suspicious.
"Since when has the wine been a darker color?"
"That's not wine...it's POISON!"
"Then that means… NO THE QUEEN IS DEAD!"
"And now we must go tell Pharaoh Atemu the bad news..."
The four guards walked of and Savira followed. Once they arrived at the Pharaoh's quarters, they knocked on the door. However, Atemu was still asleep, so Yamira answered the door instead.
“What is it?” she asked the guards, her form concealed by a simple linen dress.
“We must see Pharaoh Atemu.”
She scowled, sending a shiver of fear through the guards. “Well, he's busy at the moment.”
“Please, it's urgent.”
She sighed. “Very well.”
Yamira retreated into the room. Soon, they heard a loud thud followed by a-
“Yami Amennosis Atemu! Wake up!”
An even bigger thud was heard and all the guards, excluding Savira, winced. You could hear faint conversation from the room, and then the Pharaoh came to the door. There were light bruises on him, but other than that, he had an expression that intermingled pain, annnoyance and exhaustion.
“What is it men? Yamira told me it was urgent.”
“Your Majesty, it's the Queen, she's…” the leader trailed off, fearing his for his life. The Pharaoh glowered at him.
“Well, out with it? What about the Queen?”
“Well, your Highness, she's dead.”
“What?”
Atemu leaned up against the doorframe. His eyes were wide with shock. Yamira came to the door with a grin, but then she saw Atemu and frowned.
“What's wrong?”
“Young Mistress, the Queen is dead.” The tallest guard had informed her.
“The Queen, she's…she's-”
And bring on the water works. Yamira broke down on Atemu's chest. Of course, she really didn't care for their mother; she just wanted to be close to Atemu. As for Atemu, he was lost within his thoughts.
`How could this happen? My mother, dead. Who could have done this? Is it another warning? That messenger, who were they? Are they the one who have done this? Who's next? Yamira? Me? Who?'
