~ Chapter Three: There and Back Again ~
Jou awoke, the sunlight streaming onto his face. The blonde laid there for a while, contemplating on the mixed feelings swirling around in him and recalling yesterday's occurrences, and more importantly, the kiss between himself and Seto. A soft mumble came from behind him, and Jou turned, coming face-to-face with a sleeping Seto. Smiling softly, Jou brushed a few of Seto's stray, brown bangs out of his lidded eyes.
Jou's POV
Gods, he does look very good when he sleeps. The way the light shines onto his face and the soft, almost defenseless expression he wears. He looks more like a sixteen-year old when he sleeps than when he's awake.
I groan, rubbing my back and neck, noticing, for the first time, precisely where Seto and I are.
Seto was lying on the carpet, one hand resting lightly on his forehead, the other around my waist. He was lightly breathing; still asleep.
I feel my face heat up at the sight, for some reason. He looks just as cute and innocent as Yugi right now. I really do like him. Even though we always end up fighting one way or another, he is nice when it really counts. Although it doesn't really count much.
I freeze, suddenly, when a flashback of my time with him hits me. We were lovers, every day was heaven with him. Until he broke up with me one day, because he found someone else. I bury my face in my hands.
No matter what it looks like, I hate you, Honda.
Third Person POV
"Hey, Seto."
After sitting for what seemed like a few hours, Jou became restless, and gently shook the brunette's shoulder, before his hand shrank back. He bit his lip, frowning.
Seto groggily opened his eyes, his brown hair messy and strewn over his eyes. He grinned at the teen in front of him. "Yes, Katsuya?"
Jou stared at Seto for a moment, before shifting his gaze to somewhere else. He felt his face heat up again, and then something clicked. "We're back," he said, more to himself than the person next to him. "We're back in the library!"
Seto looked around, his own hidden smile disappearing. "Correction, pup. We're locked in the library." He pointed to a sign posted on the inside of the library's door. "Closed this Saturday and Sunday," the brunette read aloud. "They chose a great time to take the weekend off." He rolled his eyes, earning a small chuckle from the other.
"I haven't seen you ever do that, Se- I mean Kaiba." Jou quickly corrected himself, turning away so he didn't have to see Seto's eyes glaze over with pain.
"Why'd you call me that, Katsuya?" Seto sat up, reaching for Jou, who hurriedly moved away from him.
"Because that's what I always call you, Kaiba. Don't tell me you forgot that, moneybags."
Seto's pain-filled eyes hardened. "Fine," he spat, angered, yet frustrated, at Jou's stubbornness. "I offer you my friendship, I confess my harbored feelings for you, and then, after telling me you return my feelings, you go and reject them." Seto glared at Jou. "You make me sick."
"That makes two of us!" Jou yelled, facing Seto. "What makes you think I trust you?! How do I know you won't leave me?! HOW?! TELL ME THAT!"
Seto stared wide-eyed at Jou. "Jou, you know I won't leave you. Where did-"
"What are you kids doing here?" A teen with long, semi-spiky silver hair, stood in front of them, smirking.
"Bakura!" Jou said, gaping at him. "What're you doing here?"
"True." Seto folded his arms against his chest, arching one eyebrow at the Tomb robber. "Of all the places you break into, why this one?"
Bakura dangled what looked suspiciously like the lock for the library doors. "The damn Pharaoh dared me to break into the library." He snorted. "I wonder where he gets his kicks. Anyway, when Jou didn't come over to the Game Shop, the Pharaoh's brat got worried and started going crazy. So I had to go look for you in apology for getting Ryou drunk." The white demon smirked. "Although he is really attractive when he lies on the couch with a headache and yells at me. At least, I bet that's what Yugi thinks."
"They did not need to hear your version, Tomb Robber." Yami had entered, glaring daggers at Bakura, before he noticed Seto and Jou. He breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank Ra you two are safe. Yugi has been fretting all night. Ryou is watching over him now."
Bakura lightly smirked at Yami, coming up behind him and kissing the nape of the Pharaoh's neck. "How do you know they aren't doing, other things, Pharaoh?"
Yami pulled Bakura's arms away from him, reluctantly, as Seto noticed. "I don't trust you, Bakura. Not after what you did with Ryou."
"Wait a minute," Seto interrupted. "I thought you and Yugi were dating, Yami."
Bakura draped an arm around Yami, kissing his cheek. "It makes a good cover story. Better than telling everyone that two enemies are lovers, right?"
Jou and Seto shrugged.
"But I am very disappointed in him, right now," Yami added, glancing sternly at Bakura.
Mock pouting, Bakura gazed back at Yami. "You know I didn't mean to. Besides, let's not forget who showed me where the best and tastiest liquor store was."
Rolling his eyes, Yami turned to look at Seto and Jou. "How did you two end up here, anyway?"
"That project we were assigned yesterday," Jou replied, as Seto had taken up to scan the bookshelves again, clearly searching for something. "Se-I mean Kaiba decided to check out this library to get a head start."
Bakura arched on eyebrow, glancing at Yami. Both had heard the almost-slip up.
"And then," Jou went on, "we-"
Seto clamped a hand onto Jou's mouth. "Then we had a fight and must have passed out, because next thing we knew, you two are here."
Jou glared at Seto. "What was that for? Why don't you want to tell them?" he hissed, so only Seto could hear him. He was angry with Seto.
Seto shrugged. "I just don't want them to know. Not yet, at least."
Scowling, Jou stormed out of the library.
"I'll go with him," Yami offered, "I'll make sure nothing bad happens to him."
Bakura turned to look at Seto. "What really happened?"
"What do you mean?" Seto asked, feigning innocence. "That's what really happened."
Bakura snorted. "Keep lying to me, Seto, and I'll make sure you meet everyone who has ever lied to me. And trust me," his eyes glowed menacingly, "none of them are on this world."
Seto gulped nervously. Bakura was a fine asset to Kaiba Corp., his cold ways could intimidate even the most toughest and bitchiest people ever to meet Seto Kaiba. Bakura could even overwhelm and sometimes frighten the CEO. Yami seemed like the only one who had yet to be on the receiving end on one of Bakura's glares.
"Well?" Bakura tapped one foot, impatient, waiting for Seto.
Seto sighed, and drew out the book that had transported himself and Jou to ancient Egypt. He held it up for Bakura to see, surprised when the thief took a few steps back.
"Sweet Isis," he breathed, gazing at the book in both fear and awe. "The book actually survived?!"
"Survived?" Seto asked, slipping the book into one of his pockets. "What do you mean by that?"
Bakura folded his arms, a stoic expression back on his face. However, Seto could still sense his edginess, due to his shifty eyes that wandered relentlessly to the lump in his pocket that held the book. "Er… This isn't a good place to explain everything," Bakura said, settling with talking to Seto with his back turned towards the taller teen. "Besides, Yami knows more about this than me… I just wanted to steal it."
Seto blinked, a shock had just run through his entire body, chilling him to the bone. He could have sworn it began where the book was… "All right then," the CEO said, motioning for Bakura to follow him. "Have everyone meet at my mansion. You and Yami can explain there, I presume?"
Bakura scowled, lightly punching Seto in the arm. "Stop getting all CEO on me, Seto."

"Jou! Slow down!" Yami reached out, grabbing Jou's wrist and halting the blonde-haired boy. Panting slightly, he gave Jou the `look'. The `look' was unnerving, like Bakura's, but instead of having the thought `Oh hell, I'm gonna die at the hands of this psychopathic demon-person' run through your head, Yami's look inspired the thought `tell him what he wants right now, and he might let you live'. There wasn't much difference, but it was different either way.
Scuffing the ground and avoiding Yami's eyes, Jou shrugged. "It's nuthin', Yami."
"Is it about Seto?" Yami asked, his words slicing through the air. "Did he do anything to you, Jou?"
[Well, he kissed me, I told him I loved him, then he got mad at me `cus I told him I didn't feel right with him, and now it's making me feel like shit. Yup, that pretty much sums it up], Jou thought, fascinated by the moss growing on the sidewalk. "Nothing happened, Yami."
Yami arched a slim eyebrow, looking uncannily like Bakura at that moment. "Are you sure, Jou? You know I'm just going to harp on it until you give in."
Jou bit his lip, looking into Yami's ruby eyes. "He… He kissed me," Jou said, choking back tears that threatened to fall for no reason. "But we didn't go further."
"Ra, Jou, I'm sorry," Yami breathed, offering comfort to his friend. It had been five months since Jou and Honda had broken up, but he knew that still gnawed on Jou, every time he saw Honda.
"But that's not it!" Jou cried, burying his face in Yami's chest. "I kissed him back, Yami. I told him I loved him, and I do! It's just… Oh, gods! How do I know he won't be like Honda and leave me…?" Jou trailed off, breathing heavily after his outburst.
Yami hugged Jou. "Don't worry so much, Jou. If Seto didn't sleep with you like that last night, then I think he definitely loves you, and he wants to be with you, Jou. But-" he silenced Jou, "whether he leaves you or not, no one will know, but you can figure it out, Jou. Perhaps it is time you stopped dawdling in the past, and started moving on. Without him."
Jou smiled at Yami. "Nice speech. Who else heard it?"
Yami rolled his eyes, chuckling. His cell phone rang. "Yami," he said, holding it up to his ear. "Bakura?!"
"Listen, Yami. I need your help." Bakura's tone was urgent, and Yami could feel his frustration.
"Where are you, koi?" he asked.
"Seto's place. Listen, Yami. Come as quick as you can. Bring Jou along too."
"Why, `Kura?"
Bakura's next few words sent a shiver through the Pharaoh's spine.
"Seto and Jou have found The Book of Forlorn Love."
*******
Seto leaned against the back of his couch in a living room on the second floor of his mansion. /Gods, Jou. Why are you acting like this? I love you…/ He closed his eyes, unable to rid the look of Jou's face. First his smiling one, then his angry one, and finally, the one when he had yelled at Seto only a few hours ago. /I can't forget about him…/ Seto sank lower into the couch. /I'm doomed without Jou…/
*********
[Maybe Yami's right. Maybe I should just forget about Honda, and go with Seto. He really was nice to me yesterday.] Jou shivered as he fingered the bandage Seto had wrapped around his arm. [No one with such a soft touch could be that cold deep down.] Jou buried his face in his hands. [I'm just so confused…]
