…The Risks and The Consequences…

Yugi swam quickly down to his home. He prayed to every single god there was that his grandfather wouldn't notice his absence. He quietly swam up to his bedroom window and slowly opened it. He swam in to his room and left out a sigh of relief. If his grandfather ever found out that he had gone up to the surface again, there would be hell to pay. Yugi climbed into bed and thought about everything that happened. Yami was just so fascinating. Yugi couldn't believe that he actually came so close to a human. And the best thing about it is that Yami wanted to see him again so maybe this time Yugi could ask some questions about what it was like to be a human. Yugi went to sleep with that thought in his mind. He had already disregarded the accidental kiss between them because it was just that; an accident. The following morning Yugi woke up bright and early to meet up with his friends at their secret hangout place. When he swam in, he was warmly welcomed.

“Hey Yuge! Sleep well last night?” Jou said from his spot on a chair.

“Ya. What about you?” Yugi asked.

“Pretty good” Jou replied.

“So what do you think we should do today, Yugi?” Ryou asked.

“Well how about we play hide and seek?” Yugi said happily, which was followed my multiple groans.

Meanwhile above the sea on land, Yami was at this point talking quietly with his cousin at the dinner table in their large mansion.

“Yami do you hear yourself talking?” Seto asked sarcastically.

“No Seto I'm telling to truth. He's real. I talked to him, we even…” Seto glanced up at Yami's hesitation. “Well it doesn't matter what anyone says he's real, they all were!”
“Ok what the hell is going on?” Bakura asked angrily. “I'm trying to concentrate on something.”

“Yami insist that the `people' that we saw yesterday morning were not a mirage because he talked to one of them” Seto said in a distasteful tone.

Bakura and Marik both stared at Yami who snapped at them angrily “Don't look at me like that! I know what I saw! I saw—“

“What Yami?” Seto interrupted. “Mermaids? Is that what your trying to tell me? You had a full conversation with a mythical creature that doesn't exist? I mean, I understand these to imbeciles” Seto said pointing at Bakura and Marik “They'd believe there were pigs flying outside the house if you told them. But not you Yami. You're smarter than that so why are you making a fool out of yourself?”

Yami just glared at Seto and turned towards the door. When he had his hand on the knob he turned back to face Seto and said, “You know Seto, just because something isn't `logical' or `rational' doesn't mean that it can't exist.”

With that Yami walked out. Seto stared after his cousin for a few seconds before turning his eyes back to his book.

…Under the Sea…

The sun was now at the highest point in the sky. Yugi turned to face Jou with pleading eyes as Jou had remembered the deal that he had made the other day with Yugi.

“Um you guys” Jou said motioning to Ryou and Malik “I have to run a quick errand and Yugi's going to come with me so we'll meet up with you guys in a few.”

Ryou and Malik just nodded as Jou took Yugi by the hand and swam until Ryou and Malik were out of sight. He then turned upwards and started swimming until they were above the water level. Yugi looked around keenly before realizing that no one was up here.

“It's ok Yuge” Jou said. “It's probably for the best anyways. You know how dangerous humans are.”

Yugi sighed and nodded. They swam back down to find their friends and before long the sun started to set. Yugi smiled as he said goodbye to all of his friends. Once they were all gone, he swam up to the surface and waited. A few minutes had gone by before he saw a boy with dark crimson eyes appear.

“Yami?” Yugi whispered.

“Yes Yugi” came Yami's voice.
Yugi smiled before he looked down and said, “Yami, do you mind if I ask you a few questions?”

“Not at all” Yami said.

“Well” Yugi started “What's it like to be human?”

Yami blinked a few times before answering. “Well…um you get to go a lot of places and meet a lot of new people,” Yami said. It wasn't the greatest answer in the world but honestly how would you respond to that question?

“Wow really?” Yugi said with awe “That sounds so great.”

Yami smiled. “Now Yugi can I ask you a question?” Yami asked.

“Sure” Yugi said.

“What are you?”

Yugi hesitated. He didn't exactly know if he should be confiding in Yami so much but then he thought about how nice Yami was and thought that he owed Yami since Yami had answered his question.

“I'm a mermaid,” he said as he lifted his tail and fins out of the water and wiggled them around a little. “Or merman” Yugi added. “Whichever you prefer.”

“Yami was in complete awe and reached out to caress Yugi's tail. Yugi giggled at the touch and said, “That feels funny.” Yami just smiled before withdrawing his hand. Yugi put his bottom half back in the water before sighing.

“I have to go,” he said.

Yami nodded and asked “Same time tomorrow?”

Yugi smiled. “Ya” he said.

“You promise?” Yami asked.

“Promise!” Yugi said.

Yami reached down just far enough to ruffle Yugi's hair, which made the small boy giggle. “Goodnight Yugi” Yami said before standing up.

“Goodnight Yami” Yugi said and then smiled at the taller man. Yugi then dived into the water and disappeared. Yami walked away from the shore and went to retire to his bedroom.
Back under the sea, Yugi swam quickly to his house and once again snuck in through his window. As he was closing his window he didn't notice a large figure approach him until he turned around and came face to face with it.

“Grandpa!” he gasped.
