Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Find Me ❯ Sorrows and Wishes ( Chapter 4 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Yuri: Hey guys! Um Protector of the Nameless asked if my plot was going to be like the little mermaid (which is a movie that I adore) but no it's not. I think the only similarities is that Yugi is a prince and Yugi has the same rebellious relationship with his grandfather as Ariel did with her father but there's no evil sea witch, Yugi doesn't lose his voice, and Yugi doesn't have a time limit that he has to win over Yami but thank you so much for the question so now my other readers are aware that I do not have such intentions to do the little mermaid plot.
Seto: Ok start the next chapter already.
Jou: Seto be patient!
Seto: Hmph. Whatever.
Yuri: Well just in case any of my readers are like Seto here's the next chapter! Enjoy!

…Sorrows and Wishes…

“Grandpa!” Yugi gasped.

“Young man just where in the world have you been?” Yugi's grandfather asked. To most people he was known as King Solomon, ruler of the sea. Solomon was an elderly looking merman and he always carried a three-pronged triton in his right hand.

“I was with Jou” Yugi said trying to keep shield his eyes from showing the truth.

“O really?” his grandfather asked as he swam aside to reveal none other than Jou. “Because Jou has been here for the past half hour looking for you.”

Yugi eyes widened in fear. “I-I was j-just—“ Yugi began before his grandfather's loud voice stopped him.

“You went up to the surface again, didn't you!?”

Yugi shook his head violently “No Grandpa I didn't!”

“Don't you lie to me! You went up to the surface again even though you know that it is forbidden! Do you realize what could have happened if a human found you? Must I remind you of your parents!”

Yugi's eyes brimmed with tears as he started to cry but his grandfather showed him no mercy. “You are absolutely forbidden to leave this house do you understand!?” he said.

Yugi just continued to cry as his grandfather turned around towards the door, walked out, and slammed it shut leaving Jou and Yugi all alone.

“Yuge?” Jou called out to him sadly as he approached the crying boy. “Yuge, I'm sorry. I just came to bring you something that I found today. I didn't mean for this to happen.”

Yugi just nodded as he looked up at Jou. “You should go” Yugi said.

Jou opened his mouth to speak but just sighed as he realized that it was no use trying to talk to Yugi when he was this upset.

“Ok Yuge” Jou said. “I'll just come by tomorrow.” That being said Jou gently opened the door and swam out leaving Yugi to cry all by himself. After an hour had pass and Yugi had settled down, he laid on his bed and glared at the ceiling. It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair that he was not allowed to do anything. It wasn't fair that his grandfather wouldn't allow him to go to the surface. Life was so unfair! He couldn't take it. These walls were like his prison. A prison he wanted so desperately to escape. He turned several thoughts around in his head and stared up at the sky. He wanted to leave but he had nowhere to go. No one to go to. But maybe…maybe he could go to Yami. But…he looked down at his tail and fins. He wasn't human so he could never go to Yami. And what about his friends? He couldn't leave them behind. A tear slipped down his cheek as he realized that he would never escape this life that he lived. With that last thought, he turned to retire to his bed but then heard a loud sharp noise against his window. He looked out to see Jou, Ryou, and Malik motioning for him to come down. Yugi took a quick glance around his room before swimming out his window and down to his friends.

“What's going on?” Yugi asked quietly.

“Follow us” Ryou said as he started to swim along with the others.

Yugi nodded as he followed his three friends to their secret spot. After he closed the door to the little cove, he turned to face his friends.

“So?” Yugi asked.

“Well, remember earlier when I told you that I found something that you might like?” Jou asked.

Yugi just nodded. “Well” Jou continued “Tada!”

At that moment, Jou took out from behind his back a golden triangle. Yugi looked at it in awe and reached his hand out for it. “What is it?” Yugi asked as he took it in his own hands.

“It's a millennium item,” Ryou said.

Yugi tilted his head to the side, a signal for Ryou to explain. “Well” Ryou began “When Jou, Malik, and myself were on our way to our houses to go to bed a little earlier, Malik noticed something in the corner of his eye. And of course Malik being…well Malik, forced us to go check it out with him. It happened to be a gold chest that had been covered with sand all the way to the top. After we dusted it off, we opened it and found…well these!” Ryou finished as he revealed a large round golden ring from behind his back. Malik also revealed a golden eye in his closed hand and Jou took out a large golden rod. Yugi was in shock at how fascinating all these items were but turned to give Ryou a questioning look.

“Wait” Yugi said, “How did you know that they were called millennium items?”

“O right! Inside the chest, we also found that scroll,” Ryou said pointing to the shabby scroll that rested on a shelf. “It said that the items inside the chest were millennium items and…” Ryou stopped.

“And what?” Yugi questioned.

“And” Malik jumped in “the holders of these items all could be granted one wish.”

“What!?” Yugi yelled.

Jou just sighed. “Ya Yugi but I mean that's just unrealistic” Jou said.

The excitement that had just entered Yugi's body quickly dissipated. “Ya but it couldn't hurt to try, right?”

Malik smiled “Of course it couldn't Yugi.”

Yugi felt a little happier as he swam over to the scroll and carefully unfolded it. He read it down to very bottom and nodded before closing it. “It said that all you have to do is close your eyes, focus your energy on the item, and say your wish aloud.”

“So do we get three like a genie?” Jou asked jokingly and him and Malik broke out into a grin.

“No. Only one” Ryou said.

“O come on this is like a old pirate story or something” Jou said.

“Well I'm going to try anyways,” Yugi said before closing his eyes and holding the gold pyramid in his hand tight. His friends stayed completely quiet. After about two minutes of silence, Yugi opened his mouth and said, “I wish…I wish I was human.” He heard his friend's gasp but ignored it. After about a minute he opened his eyes and saw his tail and fins still attached to his waist and sighed.

“It's ok Yuge” Jou said. “Let's just get you back to your house before your grandfather notices.”

Yugi nodded. He was extremely upset because even though it did sound unrealistic it gave him an inch of hope that maybe…just maybe he could escape. Yugi opened his mouth to say something but nothing came out. He grabbed his throat violently as he felt an overwhelming sensation that he couldn't breathe.
“Yuge!” Jou shouted as he swam to his friend's side. “Talk to me Yuge! What's wrong? Talk to me!”

Yugi sight began to become blurry and his body started feeling numb. The last thing Yugi remembered was Jou, Ryou, and Malik grabbing different parts of his body with their hands and them swimming outside the cove and upwards towards the sky.
