Yuri: I'm just going to get right into it. Enjoy!
…Newcomer…
Yami stretched out his arms and yawned. He had barely kept his eyes open to focus on Seto's presentation. He watched as all the men that looked like penguins shook Seto's hand and walked out. He didn't like any of them and the feelings were obviously returned. As the last man walked out, Seto sighed and rubbed his temples before looking up towards Yami with cold emotionless eyes.
“Why were you late today, Yami?” Seto asked, even though he had already knew the answer.
“I'm sorry Seto. I lost track of time,” Yami answered as he took a seat because he was just so tired.
Seto also took his usual seat at the head of the table before continuing.
“Yami, I think that Yugi staying here is a bad idea.”
Yami's tired eyes instantly turned to ones of anger.
“What do you mean?” Yami asked while trying to keep his cool.
“I mean that ever since he started staying here, all you've done is slacked off. You haven't been keeping up with your work and he's even making you late to important business meetings. All you've done is spend time with him. I understand that you feel bad for him because he has nowhere to go but I'm sure we can find a place that will take him in. He's just a distraction,” Seto said.
Yami's self-control quickly dissipated as he stood up from his chair and banged a fist down on the table. Seto was not at all fazed however and let Yami say all that he wanted to say.
“Yugi is NOT just a distraction! No one has ever made me feel as free and carefree than he has! Before him, it was just business or keeping in eye on Marik and Bakura just in case they plotted to blow something up. With him, life is fun again and I'm not going to just sit here and listen to you talk about kicking him out when he has nowhere to turn to. If he goes, then I go!” And with that Yami stormed out of the room and went outside to get some air. Seto just stared off in Yami's direction and shook his head as he opened his laptop and started to type. Neither of them had noticed the little boy with large amethyst eyes leaning against the door that led out to the hallway.
…A Few Hours Prior…
“Ou!” Ryou yelled as his head was forced upward by a tight fist that wrapped around his silver locks.
“Well, well, well what do we have here?” came a sinister voice.
Ryou looked at the stranger who was pulling at his hair painfully and gasped. It was the same man who was out on the beach the day. The one who looked like him.
“O Marik!” the man called “Look what I caught!”
The crazy-looking Egyptian who resembled Malik walked into Ryou's lone of sight. The two men were currently on a medium sized boat and the one called Marik had leaned over from the driver's side so that he could look at what his friend was so thrilled about.
“Hey Bakura, he looks kind of familiar, don't you think?” Marik said.
Bakura nodded as he yanked at Ryou's hair even harder, which caused the small albino mermaid to wince.
“He's one of those mermaids from about a week ago that we saw” Bakura said as he examined Ryou. “Ha! And Seto said that it was just a mirage.”
Ryou was scared out of his mind. He didn't know what to do so he said the only thing that he could possibly think of.
“Please, let me go. You're hurting me,” Ryou said. Bakura and Marik just looked at each other before breaking out into insane laughter.
“Aww Marik, I'm hurting him,” Bakura laughed as he gave Ryou's hair another hard pull. At this point, Bakura was almost lifting Ryou's upper half out of the water by his hair when suddenly Ryou dropped right back in and the pressure from his head had disappeared. He looked up quickly to see what had caused Bakura to let him go and was shocked to see Bakura holding his face with both of his hands. He then felt a hand wrap around his arm and looked over to see Malik. Evidently, Malik had punched Bakura square in the face and was now urging Ryou to swim under while he dealt with the situation.
“Go Ryou! I'll be right behind you” Malik reassured as Ryou nodded before giving the two humans one last look before diving under.
“O, you are going to regret that!” Bakura yelled.
“Ya, ya, ya I'm shaking” Malik scoffed.
Bakura narrowed his eyes and glared at the boy. Malik smiled for he knew very well that it would be impossible for either of the two humans to catch him or Ryou once they were out of reach in the water so all that they could do was glare.
“Why don't you come over here and say that?” Marik said.
Malik just rolled his eyes. Out of all his friends, Malik was the one who disliked humans the most. Malik never understood why Yugi was so fascinated with them. He thought they were dumb, self-centered, egotistic, and prone to violence. Exhibit A and B stood in front of him as we speak.
“Whatever, you two aren't worth my time. And if you ever lay a hand on Ryou again that I promise that that will be something that you'll both regret” Malik said.
Before either Bakura or Marik could respond, the mermaid had disappeared into the vast sea. Bakura cursed out loud as he stormed back to his seat and sat down.
“Come on Marik, we have other things to attend to” Bakura growled.
Marik blinked as he approached Bakura.
“So we're just going to let them go? Just like that?” Marik asked in a surprised tone.
Bakura shook his head. “Don't be silly Marik” he said. “You don't worry. We'll see them again and then we'll show them who they're messing with.”
Marik laughed. “Phew! You scared me for a second Bakura” Marik said as they drove away towards the mansion.
Meanwhile Malik had located Ryou not that far under the water level when he approached the boy.
“I'm sorry Ryou” Malik said, “I should have realized what was going on sooner”
Ryou just gently shook his head as he said, “No Malik, it's fine. You saved me from those two humans. Thank you.”
Malik smiled as he ruffled Ryou's hair and said “No problem!”
However Malik's action had caused Ryou to wince loudly.
“O I'm sorry! I forgot! We should go see if you're ok,” Malik said.
“I'm fine Malik” Ryou said. “I'm just a little sore.”
Malik nodded but then sighed. Ryou gave Malik a look that told Malik to explain why he had sighed.
“I just miss Jou and Yugi. I'd give anything to know that they're ok,” he said.
Ryou raised his eyebrow as he went up to Malik and held out the millennium eye that Malik had wrapped around his neck with a string before asking, “Anything?”
…In The Mansion…
Yami was lying on his bed and staring up at the ceiling when he heard his door creek open and turned his head.
“Hi Yugi” Yami smiled.
“Hi Yami” Yugi said timidly as he looked down at the floor. Yami waited patiently for Yugi to talk since he sensed that the small boy had something that he wanted to say.
“Yami” Yugi said, “Can I lay down with you?”
Yami looked very much shocked at this but nevertheless nodded as he moved over and made space. Yugi hopped on shyly and laid next to Yami as they both looked up at the ceiling in silence. Finally Yugi spoke again.
“Yami?”
“Yes hikari?” Yami asked as he turned to face Yugi.
“I heard you and Seto fighting about me today…and I just wanted to say…thanks…for standing up for me” Yugi finished.
Yami smiled as he sat up on one elbow and looked down at Yugi who was now looking at him with some kind of emotion in his eyes that Yami couldn't quite describe.
“Of course Yugi. I would protect you against anyone. You know that right?”
Yugi just smiled brightly. “Ya” he said.
Yami smiled as well and, to lighten the mood, he began tickling Yugi feverishly. Yugi, being extremely ticklish began laughing hysterically, which made Yami's heart fill with happiness.
“Stop Yami! Please…Stop!” Yugi yelled through giggles.
“Nope! Not till you tell me I'm awesome!” Yami said and continued to attack Yugi.
“Your awesome!” Yugi screamed.
“Tell me you couldn't live without me!”
“Never!” Yugi yelled defiantly. Yami then increased his fingers speed that glided over Yugi's stomach.
“No! Yami stop! I can't breathe!” Yugi yelled. He couldn't take much more.
“Tell me!” Yami said
“No!” Yugi screamed.
“Tell me!”
Yugi felt like he was about to die of oxygen deprivation.
“Ok ok! I couldn't live without you! You're everything to me! I lo—“
A sudden knock came to door and Jou walked in to find Yami on top of Yugi with both of them panting heavily.
“Umm…” Jou said awkwardly “I'm sorry to interrupt but Yami you have a visitor.”
Yami nodded and quickly but carefully got off of Yugi. “Thank you Jou” Yami said. “Yugi I'll be back ok?”
Yugi nodded and Yami exited the room. After Jou and Yugi were alone, Jou crossed his arms and lifted his head up with an amused expression. Yugi rolled his eyes.
“Nothing happened Jou. We were just playing around” Yugi explained as he got off the bed.
“Aha” Jou said, “That's not what it looked like from here.”
“I don't care how it looked, nothing happened” Yugi said with a defensive tone.
Jou put both of his hands up and said, “Ok, ok Yuge. I believe you.”
“Thank you” Yugi said. “So” he continued, “Who was the person who came to see Yami?”
“I don't know” Jou said casually. “This chick with brown hair and blue eyes. She said to tell him that Anzu was here.”
