It seemed Mokuba had been mistaken. Kaiba-boy wasn't coming. In fact, it seemed as if the teen had truly disappeared. He was gone, as if he had never existed. Except for those few who knew where to look. Pegasus was one of those who knew. He knew his angel was still in that empty house. There were rumors that he was working on something in there. Some sort of devise that would give him an advantage. Especially an advantage against those with the Millennium Items.
Pegasus didn't want to wait until the boy chose to reappear. He had already waited long enough. He wanted Seto Kaiba, and he wanted the young man now. He wanted the boy so bad he had actually lowered himself to kidnapping. It seemed he would have to resort to it again. If Seto wouldn't come to him willingly, he had the means to force the boy to come.
His men seemed more than happy to go. He didn't blame them. Pegasus was getting anxious. Nervous. He was acting like some kid with a terrible obsession. Not having the object of his fantasies around was making him very short tempered. Not even his comics could calm him down. Not that he wanted to be calm. Pegasus refused to go back to normal. Not until he held Seto close.
He was already rather angry when his men returned. He was still miffed that Mokuba had found a way to escape. It wasn't that big of a deal but it still hurt his pride. He knew exactly where the kid would go. Mokuba would head straight for the one person he thought could help. That person was Yugi Moto, the one who had defeated his Kaiba-boy. Millennium Puzzle or not, the punk couldn't shelter Mokuba for long. Pegasus knew he could get the kid back at any time.
The door opened, interrupting his reading. “Mr. Pegasus.” He heard the man stutter. He turned to look at them. There was still anger in his single crimson eye.
“Did you find him?” He demanded. He wasn't talking about Mokuba. The him in question was Seto. The men were supposed to make contact with his angel and then do whatever was necessary to bring his Seto home to him.
The men looked terrible. They were bruised and bleeding. Obviously, the men had met with Seto. The boy must have gotten violent and utterly thrashed the men. But the look on their faces said there was more to it than that.
“Well,” he prompted. “Where is he?” Pegasus fought to keep the excitement out of his voice. The happiness was more than evident. His single crimson eye danced. He was glad his men were back, because they wouldn't return without Seto. They just had to have the boy.
“That's what we wanted to tell you about, Mr. Pegasus.” The men seemed to be in a state of shock. They had seen something terrible. Now they were having problems relaying the news to their boss.
“What? He wasn't there?” Disappointment flared. Pegasus covered it with a smile. Seto must have run out just before his men got there. And he had gotten his hopes up.
“No sir, the boy was there. We got that deck, like you asked.” The first man proffered a stack of cards.
Pegasus ignored them. “And the boy?” He was getting annoyed. His men were avoiding talking about Seto for some reason. He wanted to know why. Slowly, he brushed his air aside revealing his hidden eye. That got them talking.
“He jumped. We tried to stop him, but he was too fast. No one could have survived a fall like that. No one.”
Pegasus blinked. Seto had done what? He couldn't believe it. He refused to believe his angel had committed suicide. Seto had to be alive. He had to be. The men were just lying. Lying to cover up the fact that they had failed.
“We're really sorry, Mr. Pegasus. We did try. He was just to fast for us.”
Pegasus slammed his fist on the arm of his chair. “I don't believe you!” It couldn't be true. He wouldn't let it be true. It had to be a lie. And he had the power to prove the lie for what it was. He could use the Millennium Eye to see into their minds. The gold of the item flashed. Pegasus was almost unprepared for the visions of the incident in question. It was almost like he was there himself.
The house was exactly as he remembered on the outside. But inside, it seemed less empty. It also seemed more secure. At the same time, the place was still as unhappy as before. That horrid house was searched from top to bottom before by sheer luck, they found the boy.
The men literally kicked the door open. Inside, his Seto sat, head bent over some strange devise. There was an intense look of concentration on his handsome face. Pegasus couldn't help but smile at the vision. Kaiba-boy still stuck out his tongue when thinking hand. The white haired man found that endearing. “Seto.” He whispered before he realized that he was just an observer in this memory.
The boy didn't even bother to look up. “So you've come earlier than I anticipated. I can't say I'm pleased.” The teen casually threw the strange objects he'd been working on in his briefcase.
“Mr. Pegasus would like to see you.”
The boy turned to aim that frigid stare at the men. “I bet he would. But it'll take more than you goons to make me.”
“We could do this the easy way, or we could just rough you up a bit.” Pegasus wanted to dope-slap his men. No wonder Kaiba-boy had kicked their asses. There was no way to see this other than as an attempt to kidnap him. The morons were asking for Seto to hurt them.
His angel smiled slowly. That hard smile broke Pegasus's heart. It was so cold, so fake, it hurt to look at it. He wondered if Seto could actually smile at all. “You won't take me alive.” Then he kicked the chair. The kick was beautiful, both graceful and well preformed. The flying furniture hit its mark, knocking the men backwards.
In one smooth motion, Seto Kaiba stood on his desk. The light shown through the window, framing the boy, creating a dark, elegant silhouette. The men struggled to their feet. They were too late. Seto sprang backwards, putting his arms over his face protectively. The boy's body hit the window. The window shattered. Pegasus's heart fragmented with it. He watched Seto disappear through the hole.
The men were rushed to the window. He looked out with them, hoping beyond hope to see a familiar blue trench coat. The fall was straight into the sea. Straight on sharp, jagged rocks. That fall lead straight to death. “No one could survive a fall like that.”
“Well, at least we got his deck. Isn't that what Mr. Pegasus wanted?” The man picked up the top card. It was most definitely Seto Kaiba's deck. The deck with the deadly Blue-eye White Dragons.
Pegasus left his men's heads. He was in shock. It was true. It was all true. Seto was dead. Gone forever. His only link to the now dead boy was the deck of cards he had just taken into his hands. Quietly, he whispered, “You can leave now.”
The men obeyed immediately leaving Pegasus alone with his sorrow. He wanted to cry. He wanted to rage out of control. But he couldn't. He couldn't make himself lose control. Because he had felt something. Something from the cards. Ridiculous, but true. The cards did have a heart. They had once been magical. In some ways, they still were. The cards fed off their owner's emotions. The stronger the emotions, the more powerful the deck became. This deck was filled with emotion. The coldness he had begun to associate with Seto Kaiba. There was something else there. Something that only someone with magic would be able to feel. The cards wanted vengeance. They wanted to get back at the one who had defeated them.
With emotions this strong, it would be easy to use his Millennium Item to call forth a representative for that need. But did he really want to go through with it? He knew full well who he'd be conjuring if he chose to do so. Pegasus didn't know if he was ready to look into the eyes of a dead man.
Then again, whatever he did call forth would do whatever he asked of it. That was an interesting idea. And an opportunity he wasn't about to pass up. Once more the Eye flared. The surge of power gave him a splitting headache. It also took his sight for a bit. When things came back into focus, he gasped.
The man stood before him clad as he had been the second time they had met. The Domino High School uniform still looked magnificent on Seto Kaiba. Or more appropriately, the ghost of Seto Kaiba's desire to beat Yugi Moto into the ground.
The ghost stood motionless. He stared at the cards, then at Pegasus. He might have been an exact double of Seto, but his eyes were different somehow. They were still the same color of blue, but they were missing something. They were missing the pull the real Seto had possessed. Not that Pegasus was going to look a gift horse in the mouth.
The businessman stood and walked over to his ghostly Seto. He tilted the boy's chin up gently to place a soft kiss to unyielding lips. No reaction. The ghost stood. As he kissed the boy, his hands wondered down, fastening to the boy's butt. He smiled inwardly. He had always known his angel would have a nice firm backside. The ghost stood motionless.
“Seto.” He muttered, pressing his cheek to the motionless ghost. “Hold me back.” Arms moved mechanically to clasp him. That's when Pegasus allowed reality to finally set in. This wasn't Seto Kaiba, and it could never be. Sure, the ghost looked like the boy, but that was the extent of it. He didn't hold his only love, he held a doll. A puppet. A fake. The real Seto was gone and he was never ever coming back.
“Go get my angel's revenge for him.” He muttered. The copy of Seto let go. It took the cards and left the room. Pegasus stared after it. He felt the first tear fall. It would have been so easy to just lie to himself. So simple to make believe that that was his angel. But his Seto truly was an angel now. More tears were coming. He did nothing to stop them. He put his face in his hands and wept.
“Seto.” He sobbed. “Why did you have to die? Oh why couldn't I have just had more time? I wish you were alive Seto. That way I could have told you. I could have told you how I felt.”
Little did Maximillion Pegasus know that his wish had been granted. While he grieved his loss, one seriously pissed off Seto Kaiba was breaking back into his own house. He wasn't about to let Pegasus get away with taking his cards or his brother.. This attempt to kill him was the final straw. This meant war, Kaiba style.
