Pegasus felt Seto shift slightly in his arms. The boy shouldn't be awake by now. No matter how strong, the magic of the Eye was virtually impossible to break. Then again, Seto had already proved time and again that the impossible was indeed very possible. This seemed to be one of those times. If Seto was waking, that wouldn't be too much of a problem. Pegasus was already close enough to the holding room. Just to be sure though, he looked down at the teen.
Seto had gone from unconsciousness to sleep. He stood by the reinforced door just looked at his angel. Seto was gorgeous, draped so delicately in his arms like that. He couldn't help but marvel at the open innocence of the boy's face. Seto's waking face was so much different. Pegasus was sure that this was the man under that mask. Now that he had seen it, he wasn't about to let his angel retreat back into that act. He just didn't know how to keep Seto from it. He couldn't formulate more plans. Not now. His mind had just shut down, content on holding the sleeping teen.
Pegasus entered the room and lay Seto on the bed as softly as possible. He didn't want to wake the boy. Not yet. Because waking would mean animosity. He didn't know if he was ready to deal with the intense anger Seto would have once he woke. No. Pegasus was more than happy to sit and watch and wonder. Wonder about his angel. Seto was a mystery to him, as he had been from the beginning. He knew something had to have happened to this boy to make him the way he was. Pegasus wanted to know what. Actually, he was dying to know.
He wondered if he should take a peek into Seto's head. Surely, the boy had memories in there. Something to give him a clue. It would be another way to learn about his angel. Morally though, it was wrong to jump into people's heads. Memories were a sacred thing, not something to go looking at without permission. Pegasus let morals be damned as the Eye flashed. He knew this was the only way he was going to find out anything. It wasn't as if Seto would just drop his walls and let him in.
Speaking of walls, Pegasus encountered one. Large and imposing, it was all that stood between him and the truth. He was impressed by the sheer magnitude of the wall. When his angel blocked things, he really blocked things. It looked impenetrable, but on closer inspection, tiny hairline fractures spidered over the entire surface. The cracks hummed with magic. The magic of a Millennium Item. He was really impressed now. Seto's walls had endured the assault from the Puzzle.
This was going to take a lot more than determination. This was also going to take lots of power. He had to thank Yugi though. The cracks did make this easier. He had to hit it at just the right spot with enough magic, and the wall would crumble.
Outside the mental world, Pegasus gently stroked Seto's cheek with his thumb. “I'm sorry Kaiba-boy, but that wall of yours has to go.” Then he returned to the mental world to strike the wall with a dizzying amount of force.
It shattered. There was no time to be satisfied. Not with Seto's repressed memories surging towards him. He tried to back away, return to the normal world, but he couldn't. Try as he might, he was trapped under this typhoon of memory. It hit him all at once, bleeding together, forming a chain. He didn't know where one stopped and the next began. Realization hit, and it hit hard. He recoiled at what he was seeing.
Gozaburo Kaiba entered the room, whisking the drapes shut. He grabbed little Seto roughly by the face. “Mokuba, go outside and play.” He ordered. When the younger boy left, he snarled. “Seto, we'll have our discussion now.” The little boy was terrified. The reason soon became evident. Gozaburo hit him. Hard. “That's for talking back.” And again. “For questioning me.” And again. The blows kept on coming, hard and fast. “Don't you have anything to say Seto?”
Pegasus was proud of the little boy. He didn't speak. Never cried out. The man continued the beating. “No. Then I'll give you the words, Seto. Say them. Tell me you won't ever talk back. Tell me you won't question me. Tell me you love me and will always obey me. Say it, Seto. And make me believe it.” The boy remained mute. Even after the man left leaving the little boy broken and bleeding on the empty floor.
Pegasus felt sick. How long? How long had that been going on? By the look of things, this kind of things was a normal occurrence. But he hadn't seen it. He was furious. He hadn't known. As the memories continued to bombard him, Pegasus had a feeling he was going to see worse, much worse, before it was all over. He couldn't be more right.
He watched his angel's slow fall from humanity. He watched the pain Seto hid from the world. He watched every blow, every torture the boy had been subjected to. He watched and it made him want to kill the sick bastard that had done those things to his Seto.
He was still recovering from the last memory. Seto was older now, tougher. Gozaburo had almost killed the boy this time. And only because the boy had lost a game. No wonder Seto took losing so hard. But the image that followed was worse. The man had shown up later. He walked in to the room and started to hug the boy. “I'm sorry Seto. But I had too. The world can't stand losers. It was for your own good.” Pegasus didn't like the way the man held the boy. It was too close. Too possessive. “I do it because I love you, Seto.” He gave the boy a kiss before he left again. It wasn't a chaste fatherly kiss either. It was right on the mouth, tongue and all. That was enough for Pegasus to know. He knew Gozaburo had been sick, but this was too much. The man was horrid. And if he tried to... No. No one could have done that to such a wonderful boy. Could they?
He was answered. The one memory. The one buried the deepest. The one he had a feeling he really didn't want to see. Seto was probably only two years younger in this memory. He was very handsome in his school uniform. He was studying. Then the man came into the room. “Seto. I think it`s time for a new arrangement.” He purred, huskily. The boy looked up. There was no terror anymore. Just dead, uncaring eyes.
Pegasus was fighting now. Fighting hard. He didn't want to see his angel being tortured any more. He cursed the magic of the Eye. He knew he was stuck there. He was going to be forced to watch this sickening shadow play run its course.
He had to hand it to Seto though. The teen must have decided enough was enough. When Gozaburo tried to grab him, the boy fought back. He was strong, but in the end, the man proved to be stronger. He shoved Seto to the ground, ripping at his clothing as he fell. There was a crazed look in the man's eyes as he growled lustfully. “No one else will ever have you. I'm making you mine forever Seto.” The man was tugging at Seto's trousers. Kissing him fiercely. The boy had stopped fighting. He just lay there.
Pegasus felt very ill. “No more.” He begged, closing his mental eyes against the scene. “I don't want to see any more. I can't! I can't watch that--that thing- defile my Seto. I can't!” Pegasus felt a jolt. He was back in the real world again. One last image burred into his memory forever. Seto pinned naked under that man. Eyes totally dead, empty despite the wetness of tears, as the man who had adopted him forced himself inside.
His first thoughts were for his angel. The boy had a death grip on the sheets. He was sweating profusely and trembling. In his sleep, he was crying out. “No! You're hurting me! Stop it! Please! I'll say it. I love just you.“ Then quieter. “Please stop.”
Pegasus grabbed the thrashing teen and started to shake him. He knew that this was all his fault. By breaking Seto's protective wall, he had freed those memories. He had forced his poor Seto to relive that torture. If he could wake the boy in time, it might now be too late. He knew that wasn't a rational thought. The damage had already been done. Now, all he could do was wake Seto had hope for the best.
His shaking did it. He heard a stifled scream of absolute horror. He was greeted by a terrified stare. Unconsciously, he pulled the boy to him to hold him tightly. He could feel Seto shaking uncontrollably. The teen was shaking so much he was making Pegasus shake as well.
Pegasus's hand traced circular patterns on Seto's back to calm him. He heard that cold voice. It was strained. Filled with fear. “Leave me alone! Let me go! I'll kill you!” The boy was trying to struggle.
Pegasus held him motionless. His wasn't about to let his angel go anywhere. “Shh. It'll be okay, Seto. You're safe here. I'm not like him. I'm not going to hurt you. Just calm down.” He felt the teen go completely rigid in his arms. He looked down to see those hauntingly clear blue eyes. The fear was gone from them. They held the look of a man about to commit murder.
“I said, let me go!” The yell was almost as explosive as the boy. Seto managed to struggle out of his arms and knock him flat with one hard punch. Pegasus knew he'd have a bruise in the morning, in not sooner. Seto stood over his prone body. “I KILLED him. So don't think I won't hesitate in killing you as well, Pegasus.”
Pegasus froze. Seto was going to kill him. His angel was going to send him to his death, just like the teen had done to that bastard who had once called himself Seto's father. He flinched away from what he knew was coming.
His single crimson eye reopened when the door burst open to admit his bodyguards. “Mr. Pegasus, we heard noises and we...” They trailed off when they saw Seto. The boy took no time. He leaped for the door. It took four guards to wrestle him to the ground. Once he was down, one of the men asked, “Are you all right, Mr. Pegasus?”
“Yes. I was just careless.” He commented, standing. He walked over to the pinned boy. Seto was thrashing. Even four men were having problems keeping his down. “I won't be so careless next time, Kaiba-boy.”
“There won't be a next time, Pegasus.” Seto spat. “First chance I get, I'm going to kill you. First chance!” Pegasus could almost feel Seto's walls slamming back into place. He couldn't let the boy do that. The walls had to remain down if Pegasus had any hope of healing the boy.
He knelt in front of Seto, capturing that azure stare. “It's time to go back to sleep, Kaiba-boy. I hope you won't be so grumpy in the morning.” Pegasus tried to make light of the situation. It didn't work. After what he had just witnessed inside Seto's head, even he had lost his cheery personality.
The boy never had a chance to retaliate. Pegasus stood, feeling slightly woozy. He had used too much magic this evening. He was surprised he could even stand at all. He let his men drag the boy back to the bed. He then ordered them to leave. He assured them that he didn't need them. Seto wouldn't be able to hurt him when he was out cold.
Pegasus made sure they were gone before he went to the teen's bedside. Slowly, he pulled a blanket over the boy. Seto seeded to relax a bit in the warmth. The businessman leaned over and kissed the teen softly in the forehead. “I understand now. You've been hurt so badly, but I'm going to make everything all right again. I'm going to do whatever it takes to save you Seto.” Pegasus kissed Seto's lips lightly, before heading out of the room. He set the security and hated himself for doing so. But he knew he had too. He couldn't let his angel escape. Not before Pegasus had a chance to heal him.
