He was having one of those out-of-body dreams that came to him occasionally. It wasn't an uncommon scene that the dream began with; it was a dark stone room. The walls had indistinct tapestries that held eternally blurred pictures. The stones in the wall were old and held a wet sheen to their surface, although he knew at the back of his mind that to touch them they would be cold and dry. The long roll of red carpet that led up to the dais seemed cliché to him, it always seemed cliché. There was only one visible door opposite the dais, but the same knowledge that told him the walls were dry also told him there were several secret doors around the back of the dais. He could see himself, sitting in the stone throne on the dais. Two gold cushions beside his hips on each side and a thick red cushion under his rear gave him comfort on the stone. He wore a golden crown across his temple and his brown eyes had been underlined with some sort of dark make-up. His upper body was left bare, and the long white cloth over his groin did nothing to hide the fact that there was nothing under it.

Seto had seen this part of the dream many times, he knew what would be uttered next, `let me out' and then everything would bleed away under those dark brown eyes. But there was something wrong with the dream this time. The figure reclining next to the throne had never been there before.

Jounouchi was wearing nothing but a thin red sheet over his groin, his hair appeared tussled, as though he had only just woken up and had not had a chance to prepare himself. There were red lines under his eyes from some sort of make-up and a huge elaborate gold ornate hair pin drew Jounouchi's locks away from one side of his face. Six gold loops adorned his left wrist and Seto had the impression that the Fairy had applied some sort of crushed-berry mixture to his lips. At Seto's attention the Seto on the dais leaned downward and cupped Jounouchi's chin, tilting his chin upward.

The scene drew closer and Seto stared in shock to see the blank expression in Jounouchi's normally lively eyes.

“He could be yours.” The Seto on the dais said. He ran his thumb over Jounouchi's lips and the Fairy parted them obediently, a small sound escaping his lips as he did so.

The sound jolted Seto and he tried to tear himself away from the dream, he felt as though something resisted him and for a moment he had the sensation of incredibly agony as a man's angry voice screamed through his mind. “Let me out!”

~~~
Seto woke in a cold sweat. It wasn't the kind of waking that his willpower was responsible for; it was something else.
DONG! DONG!
Seto startled at the sound of the alarm bells. He threw the blankets off himself and ran to pick up his bow and quiver. There was no time to let his mind catch up to his body, he pulled his boots on painfully and hurried out the door at a quickened pace. The camp was in chaos, Fairy bodies running around in a mad rush to get ammo and geared up.
The Luther Dragons shifted in their stalls and Seto felt a few questioning Luther's glance at him as if for instructions. The vampire hurried away from their stables, almost colliding with Zil in his haste.
“Hey, watch what your doing, fangs. Archers are this way.” Zil spun the confused vampire around and pointed in the direction he was going. Seto nodded and swung his quiver over his shoulder, following the fairy.
The archers assembled in two rows and Aescot rode down the center of them, her Luther bumping into anyone who stood even slightly out of place from her position.
“Surprise attack. All archers load.”
Seto wasn't sure what she meant by that, were the archers surprising, or were they surprised?
“Aim for the clouds, fangs.” Zil nudged him in the ribs and Seto grunted his assertion. He was tired, but this wasn't exactly rocket science for him.
“Ready bows!” Aescot's Luther swept past him and turned quicker than Seto would have thought possible for its bulk. Aescot looked surprised too and her hand momentarily gripped the saddle.
Seto strung his arrow and leaned back, who knew if he'd hit the Elves on the other side of the hill. This must have been an archers nightmare.
“Aim for the clouds, not over the hill.” Zil told him again.
Seto frowned. “But the arrows will go straight up and down on us.” He replied.
“Wait and see.”
“FIRE!”
Seto released his shoot and watched it soar into the air. The sounds of screams tore through the gloom and objects began to fall from the sky. Seto focused on the objects and was shocked to realize they were Elves with wings.
“What the hell are they?” He murmured to Zil.
“FIRE AT WILL!” Aescot's voice roared from the other end of the lines.
“Winged Elves. It's a surprise attack.” Zil muttered as he notched an arrow and let it fly into the sky.
Seto loaded another arrow and the bow in his hands thrummed as he released it. Its brother soon followed, another and another, until he was forced to slow his pace. It still seemed to him as though everyone else was moving in slow motion. It was uncanny.
“HOLD ARCHERS!” A yell came from the other side of the camp. Seto let his last arrow lose and heard a lone gurgled scream from above them.
The vampire turned to see what was going on only to see Fairies making weird gestures and speaking in the strange language they kept using. The Gold Division began to rise from the ground in a massive wave of flying fairies. Seto managed to not laugh out loud at his own mental commentary. There was the sound of thunder from above them before curls of lightening began to twist through the sky. Seto stared in amazement, it was the strangest thing he'd ever seen.
BOOOOOOOOOOMMM!!!!!
A strand of lightening exploded behind him and the very earth rocked with the impact. The vampire fell forward, loosing his bow in the tumble. The smell of burning hair and clothing caught in his throat and he fought back the impulse to retch. Charred bodies stood where the second row of archers had been. it seemed as if the lightening had jumped from one person to another.
“Storm dragons. Fucking storm dragons.” Zil growled out.
“That was a dragon?” Seto asked. That bolt of lightening had been a dragon? Where had it gone?
“No. It came from a storm dragon. C'mon fangs, lets get ourselves some swords.”
Seto shook his head, bits of gray earth falling from his hair. “What are we going to do with swords all the way down here.”
“We're going to take to flight.” Zil punched the vampire in the arm and helped him stagger to his feet. Aescot was ordering medics to see to the fried Fairies but somehow the vampire doubted it would do much. They were kind of crispy.
He looked around, seeing the panic the camp was in, this wasn't the orderly chaos of their previous attacks, this was sheer madness. Half their forces were above them, the other half were scuttling around looking for something to do!
BOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!!
A tent went up in flames as another lightening bolt struck. Seto cringed even from the other side of the camp. The sound of explosions echoed from above them as well and Seto looked up, seeing lightening racing across the sky in a very unnatural pattern.
“Kaiba! Hurry the hell up!” It was Jounouchi's voice that cut the vampire out of his trance this time and Seto turned to the Fairy. Jounouchi pulled his Luther in and leaned out of his saddle. “What are you still doing down here! Get up in those clouds with a sword; we've got storm dragons and more wraiths up there!”
Seto nodded, swallowing his awe and fear and turning back to Zil for directions.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!
Seto could have sworn that his heart started to beat for a split second. His vision filled with white light and he lost sight of his puppy and the other archer. When you're a vampire and something gives you a really large jolt, something powerful enough to make your heart beat, it can really hurt. He would have screamed, but he couldn't breathe. Walking through the palace doors of the Fairy Court hadn't hurt as much as this did. He could feel blood seeping out his nose, the corners of his eyes were moist with the stuff; the back of his throat felt like the blood was boiling. His nails extended, retracted, extended and retracted again, his fangs grew sideways, down, and then back in. it happened in the space of a split second, but for a vampire, that could be an eternity.
Then it was over and he was lying on the ground, staring up at the sky and bleeding from every orifice. Somehow, he pushed himself up on his arms; falling twice because his limbs were shaking so badly they couldn't support him. Seto looked around, heart stopping in his throat when he saw the crispy remains of his puppy.
If there was an audible line inside his head that Seto never crossed there would have been a loud breaking sound. If it was a wall that he had built up between himself and the animal he kept within, the sledge hammer would have resounded clearly in the silence of his thoughts. If it were a matter of bringing out his claws, the shink of his bones moving would have accompanied it.
There was no sound or visible confirmation of what Seto snapped. Everything just went red.
