"Looks like an Egyptian cobra," Jou said as he took his bowie knife and cut away the fabric of Seto's trousers at the thigh to get a clearer look at the snakebite. He looked at the brunette and wiped away the sweat from his head whilst Yugi scanned the map they had, pulling at his hair nervously.

"Uh… the nearest hospital is about twenty miles from here… Do you think he can make it?" Jou hesitated to stare at the abnormally wide amethyst eyes that had gotten bigger in hopeful anticipation.

"Nope…" Jou said casually. Yugi started to freak out as the blonde calmly foraged through the trunk of the jeep. For once, Jou was glad that he had decided to plan ahead on his latest adventure; he looked through the bottles and selected one, along with a hypodermic needle. Jou looked at the wound again, slicing between the two punctures with his bowie knife and grimacing as he thought about the next step. Placing his mouth over the opened wound, Jou applied suction in order to draw out the poisoned blood, repeating the process several times before rinsing his mouth out with water. He then grabbed the bottle of anti-venom and stabbed into it with the hypodermic before finding the vein on Seto's arm. It was at this point that Yugi scowled, noting what he was doing

"And when were you going to tell me that you came prepared?" Yugi pouted. Jou smiled back sheepishly before bandaging the wound.

"He should be alright now but we'll still need to drive him to the hospital" Jou said as he leapt into the driver's seat and started the car up again. Neither boy spoke as the jeep roared down the road, finally reaching a small town hospital. Seto was immediately admitted to a ward and put under observation.

Hearing a groan, Jou rose from his chair and stretched, causing his joints to pop. He glanced at Yugi and realized that the sound had not come from him; he was still asleep, curled in his chair like a kitten. It was Seto, stirring feverishly in his sleep.

"…ba…" he uttered. Jou blinked as he leaned over. "Mo… ku… ba…" he caught. Jou cocked his head to the side trying to figure out who this Mokuba was. "Let… go…" Seto became more restless and Jou decided to intervene with the nightmare.

"Hey… Kaiba… wake up… wa-"

"LET HIM GO!!!" Seto yelled as he lashed out blindly. He sat up on the bed, now awake.

"Kaiba?" Yugi exclaimed, rubbing his eyes of sleep. Seto's outburst had woken him up. "Oh good! You're awake. You really worried us!"

"Where am I?"

"In the Waikiki Hospital. You passed out from a snake biteand would have died if Jou hadn't saved you. Where `is' Jou?" a pained groan answered the question and Yugi looked on the other side of the hospital bed to where Jou was squatting on the floor with his hands over his nose. "Jou? What happened?"

"I'LL TELL YOU WHAT HAPPENED! THIS UNGRATEFUL, DESPICABLE,
INSUFFERABLE IDIOT HERE SUCKER PUNCHED ME IN THE FACE WHEN I WAS
TRYING TO HELP HIM!" Jou growled, pointing a finger at the brunette; his nose was a little red from where Seto had inadvertently smacked him in the face. Seto blinked a few times in confusion but slowly his memory returned: the expedition, his bodyguard, the chase and passing out from a snakebite. He cursed silently to himself but slipped out of the bed, ignoring the ranting blonde.

"Hey; you should rest yourself Kaiba," Yugi said tugging on his arm. "You nearly died from a snake bite so-" the comment was dismissed. Seto went to the nearest phone and, dialling a memorized number waited for an answer.

"Waikiki Hospital," was all he said, knowing his men would locate him. He leaned against the wall as fatigue started to overcome him once more.

"You should have some respect for my friend;" Jou said "He was only concerned for your health Kaiba!" Seto glared at the blonde but gasped as he had a closer look of his face without it being covered by the hat he wore. Jou cocked his head somewhat resembling a golden retriever and had Seto been in a better mood he would be tempted to ruffle the longish hair of his. "What the hell were you doing there anyway?"

"It's none of your business" Kaiba coolly replied

"Oh yeah? Well, given the fact that we risked our lives to save your ass you should at least answer me that. What were you doing there?"
Seto ignored him. Jou growled before pulling out the jewel that he had managed to steal. "Is it for this?" Seto blinked and turned to the blonde fully. Jou smirked as Seto gazed at the orb. "It's just a rock- a garnet stone. It's rare, but someone as rich as you shouldn't have had to steal it from a bunch of ferocious tribesmen.

"I had a sudden craving for adventure," Seto replied. Jou narrowed his eyes at the answer and then smirked.

"Well in that case, you don't mind me taking it to auction it off and gets some bucks eh?" Jou grinned and slipped the rock back into his pouch.

"Wait…" Jou grinned and turned. "How much do you want for it?" Jou looked surprised.

"What makes you think that I want to sell it?"

"But you just said-"

"I said `if you don't mind'… doesn't mean I don't want to keep it.
It'll make a nice paperweight"

"You wanted it for a paperweight?" Seto growled. Jou smirked.

"That and a sudden craving for adventure, moneybags," Jou replied, using the same answer that Seto had. He was about to walk out of the hospital when two bulky figures blocked his path and a hand gripped on either side of his shoulder. Seto chuckled.

"Now I suggest you hand it over quietly, Puppy, or do you we need to… renegotiate this?" Seto said as the hold on Jou's shoulder started to tighten. Jou glared at the brunette and slowly dug out the orb from his pouch, handing it to the guard on his right before they released him. The group walked outside where Yugi was waiting in the jeep, ready to go home. Jou threw a glare at the brunette but said nothing more and drove off.

Seto leaned against the chair, trying to make sense of the orb in front of him before returning to the tattered book.

"Master Kaiba?"

"What?" he snarled. The maid cringed but braved her employer's wrath.

"I-I've brought you some coffee…" Seto cocked his head toward his desk and she obediently placed it by his side before she hurried out of the office.

"Your temper is getting to you again Seto," a young woman by his side chided as she browsed through the huge pile of archives and tattered scripts in front of her. She was deeply tanned and had an exotic accent to her voice, indicating Egyptian descent.

"My brother's life is on the line if I don't find these items for that sick bastard, Isis!" Seto replied, concentrating first on the stone carving that sat in front of him and before returning to the tattered book he held. "This doesn't make any sense… from the translations I can decipher on the stone with this book; the object
I'm supposed to have was a bronze statue of some kind. But this looks nothing like it." Seto tossed the book aside and leaned back to rub at his temples. Isis picked up the discussion where he left off.

"I have found mixed translations from the scripts that state of awakening the beast within the beast."

"The translations I've made from ~this~ book state `the birth of nobility comes from the eyes of evil.

"You're relying on a book that does not even have the author's name?"
Isis asked sceptically.

"It's this book that has gotten me this far…" Seto growled back.

"But its lead you to a dead end… This person K. J.: it could all be nonsense for all we know!" Seto sighed in frustration, brushing the brown tresses from his eyes. Suddenly he blinked.

"K.J…" Seto whispered, remembering Yugi's words ^… that's Katsuya but you can call him Jou^ Seto sat up and stared at the book in front of him. He immediately went to his phone, punching in the number. The phone only rang once before someone answered. "I want you to find someone…"

"Ah Jounouchi!" exclaimed Professor Hawkins, Jou's lecturer in archaeology. Not surprisingly, Jou was his best and favourite student in the subject. Professor Hawkins was a good friend to Yugi's grandfather and a fellow archaeologist who- at times- could be ~overly~ cheerful. He had sandy hair, a bushy moustache, and eyes that obtained a certain twinkle whenever he was on the verge of a new discovery. Jounouchi recognized the twinkle as he was beckoned towards the professor's office.

"What is it professor?"

"Well, I've gotten permission from the museum and borrowed a few of the latest artefacts that they've found from some of the tombs in Egypt. I thought that they might interest you and perhaps cheer you up after that unfortunate encounter with Mr Kaiba." Jou smiled gratefully as he leaned over the large case that held the delicate items. "See? What do you make of these?" The old man said, gently prying open the casket and brushing aside the straw. Jou slipped on a latex glove and picked up some broken crockery.

"Earthenware water jug- probably from the 13th dynasty- depicting the story of the murder of Osiris and the first teachings of Anubis on the mummification process," Jou said, taking a brush and clearing away some of the dust. Nothing was out of the ordinary; Jou had seen a few similar structures although none had seemed as well preserved. It was then that he caught a glance of something else in the crate. He moved some of the straw and gasped. "Is that what I think it is?"

"Yes… a stone tablet depicting a legend during the reign of
Pharaoh Amenemhet I, the legend of Ara-mun. (1) From the looks of things it has close connections with the work you were conducting last year." Jou stared in awe as he looked over the hieroglyphs.

"It speaks of a group that had conspired to take over Amenemhet's reign. It was because of the sacrifice and death of his most loyal Priest that their revolution failed," Jou said as he read over the stone. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

"Come in," Professor Hawkins announced. A man in a black suit marched into the office. Jou turned and recognized him as one of the bodyguards that had taken the artefact he'd had away.

"Katsuya Jounouchi, I come on the order of Master Kaiba. He invites you to his mansion."

"Tell him to piss off," Jou snapped, grabbing his bag and bidding farewell to the professor. He was stopped by the man and shoved to the floor.

"I'm afraid Master Kaiba insists."

"And I told you to tell him this… Piss off!" Jou growled. The guard grabbed at Jou when he went to push him aside. "Let go of me!"

"Unhand that boy this instant!" the professor snapped as he tried to pry off the guard's iron grip. Hawkins was shoved backwards whilst the guard dragged Jou out of the office kicking and screaming.

"LET GO!!! Ow you bas-" Jou never got to finish his sentence; the man punched him hard just underneath his ribcage. Winded, Jou slumped forward. His kidnapper took his arm and threw him over his shoulder as he left the campus. Professor Hawkins spluttered his disbelief. He crawled up to his phone to call for security and alert them to a kidnapping.

Seto looked up as the man came in with a body slumped over one of his shoulders.

"Forgive me Master Kaiba, the young man was a little… uncooperative," the man said. Seto blinked and then allowed a small smile to creep upon his lips.

"Put him in the guest room then." The man bowed as far as he could without Jou slipping off of his shoulders and left the room. Seto passed the time he thought it would take for the blonde to wake up reading through countless numbers of scrolls, translations, and books. Deciding that it had been long enough, he marched down the hallway and peered into the guestroom. The blonde was sprawled on the bed and Seto frowned, impatient for Jou to wake up. Kaiba smirked when he noticed that Jounouchi wasn't wearing the leather jacket but a plain shirt and trousers. It was simple wear compared to the broad shouldered business suits of the present day fashion. Seto himself liked to keep with his own style, though most would consider it wild. Clean of all the sweat and grime the golden tresses were soft… almost silky under his fingers and Seto noticed that-contrary to his hair- Jou had extremely long and dark lashes that hung heavily on his eyelids. He leaned over the unconscious blonde and noticed the leather strap around his neck. Seto gasped when he fished the pendant from under Jou's shirt before flicking through the tattered book under his arm.

`I found it… I think I found it,' the brunette grinned at the match that the intricately patterned gold medallion with two sapphire jewels encroached near the centre made with the book. He then blinked in disbelief as the patterned jewel seemed to glower at him, burning his hand as a sudden fire flared in his chest. Seto dropped the burning medallion and backed away to clutch at his chest. The pain surged throughout his body as if he had suddenly been thrown into a scorching volcano. He couldn't scream, breathe, or even move; by the time the pain dissipated and he could gather his senses, he was on his hands and knees. `Right… better not touch that again,' he thought. He looked at Jou and suddenly a ~different~ type of heat started to spread in his body. A strange smirk suddenly crept on his lips and his eyes glazed over as he sauntered back towards the blonde and leaned over him, ignoring the medallion and focusing on Jou's face. Seto's smirk widened as he moved in closer, touching the blonde's lips with his own. Suddenly he felt a hand grab his blazer and his face collided with the pillow, as his arm was twisted at a painful angle.

"I guess I should add assault and kidnap onto that long list of charges I have against ya huh?" Jou growled.

(1) I made that up because I couldn't find any relevant legends that would relate to the story *smiling sheepishly*
