Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Jaden's Summer Job ❯ Weekend Plans ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
School was out for the summer and Syrus was really starting to miss his friends. Sure, he had his brother to keep him company sometimes, but Zane never really was all that much fun and he liked to meet up with Atticus and Alexis and spend most of his time. Alexis had offered to take Syrus with them, but Syrus didn't really feel like he fit in all that much with those three. They were really... well Atticus was weird and a little scary at times. Alexis was really sweet and had big boobs. Zane just didn't really show any outward emotion towards Syrus too much and Syrus had a feeling his brother didn't think all that highly about him. Syrus missed Jaden and Chumely and Bastion and sometimes he even missed Chazz and his weird quirks.

After spending another week moping about the house, Syrus decided to plan a big get together for all his friends. Well, except for Chumely. Chumely had been really excited about his summer internship type job drawing cards for Maximillion Pegasus and was un-reachable. It would be easy for to get in touch with Alexis and Atticus, he just had to go through his brother. All he had of Jayden and Bastion was a phone number each, and somebody had to have an idea where Chazz was, maybe.

Getting his brother to agree had been surprisingly easy. Of course it may have been that Atticus thought it was an uber cool idea and had agreed for himself, Alexis, and Zane. Bastion had agreed easily, he even admitted to being bored himself. There was only so much learning he could do during the summer before he got bored and wanted to do normal summer things. Calling Jaden though was quit an experience.

Syrus had called on speakerphone with Atticus, who had wanted to help call people. Alexis and Zane were sitting listening over on the couch. The phone rang five times and the answering machine came on.

"I'm sorry were not" There was a long pause in the message and glass shattered in the background, "woah. So not available. Call back." A girl screaming insults at someone in the background over powered the message. Syrus was about to hang up when there was a click.

"Hello?" A sleepy voiced asked. Syrus glanced at Atticus who just shrugged.

"Hello. This is Syrus, is Jaden available?"

"Jaden?" The voice sounded confused.

"Yes, Jaden Yuki." Syrus said hesitantly. Had he gotten the wrong number?

"Oh! Oh, you want to speak to Jay. Well I'll go see if I can find him." There was a rustle from the other side of the phone and a bed creaking. Syrus glanced nervously at the phone. The others where still just listening. The person who had answered didn't sound like a parent. Maybe Jaden had siblings. There was a slightly muted conversation from the phone, a series of screams in which someone was yelling for Jaden to get the damn phone. After a few moments the person started talking again.

"Well I don't guess Jay's here. This is Sid, his older brother. I could take a message for you."

"That's okay. I can call back later today."

"No just let me take a message."

"Okay then." Syrus said and looked to the other, "Some his friends are having a get together and I was just calling to invite Jaden and ask if he knew any where we could all met up."

"Oh really?" Was the question from Sid. Syrus stuttered.

"Umm. Yes?"

"THIS IS GREAT!!" Sid suddenly shouted, "YOU CAN HAVE THE PARTY HERE!!" He finished sounding really perky.

"Are you sure?" Syrus asked as he leaned away from the loud voice over the phone.

"YES! I love parties! So you can all be here this Friday at like eight. I'm sure we can find some place to cram a few of you over night and you can hang out the next day. Wonderful? Wonderful. I'll see you then."

"WAIT!! Syrus shouted before Sid could hang the phone up.

"What?

"This is great. Thanks. But, where do you live?"

Friday took forever to get here, but it finally did. Syrus was in a car with Alexis, Atticus, and Zane and they had just picked up Bastion. It was a real good thing they didn't live too far away. Sure it was a two hour drive to get Bastion and then four and a half to get from there to Jaden's, but it was summer and none of them really had anything more interesting to attend to.

Syrus hadn't been able to get in touch with Chazz. He had called Chazz's brother, thinking maybe they still let their brother at least live with them. He was disappointed when the brothers told him rather rudely that neither had heard from Chazz since his failure and not to call anymore because Chazz wasn't a Princeton. They said a lot of other superiority crap, but Syrus really wasn't too interested in what they had to say.

Four and a half hours later and everyone in the car was extremely glad when they pulled up to a shabby apartment building. It sure as hell wasn't what they had been expecting. Usually kids who went to Duel Academy lived rather pricey lives, but then Syrus remembered that Jaden had been on a dueling scholarship and the dean of the school had wanted his duel spirit. The building looked run down and even they could tell it wasn't in the best part of town, but at least it didn't look filthy. It looked like someone put some effort into keeping the place from falling to pieces.

They all clambered out of the car and up the single step to get to the door. Atticus had to ring the doorbell a few time before someone finally jerked the door open. The person looked to have just gotten out of bed, standing in only his boxers with mussed hair. It seemed odd. I was only about 9:00 p.m. They were only a little late.

"A ha! You must be Jay's friends. Come on in, I'm Sid by the way." They followed him in. The building wasn't set up like an apartment building on the inside. The whole bottom floor appeared to have been turned into a sitting area. They were a few people scattered around doing nothing. Sid led them up to the fifth and top floor. After knocking on a loft door a few times, Sid turned to them scratching his head sheepishly.

"It must have slipped my mind to tell Jay you were coming and he probably has already left for work. Heh." Sid said and smiled brightly trying to look innocent.

"Well that's alright!" Atticus said and smiled back just as brightly. Alexis and Zane only groaned, used to his behavior. Syrus and Bastion just looked slightly frightened at the smiling people.

"Well there is same kid named Chazz living here last time I checked and he should be getting in any minute now and he can answer the door and entertain you until Jaden gets back." Sid continued to babble about how they should know each other and stuff since they all went to the school for monsters. Syrus looked dumbstruck and turned to Bastion.

"Chazz? Living with Jaden? That's… weird." Syrus commented. There was a loud commotion in the loft. A whole lot of cursing, mostly at one Jaden Yuki.

"Most definitely." Bastion agreed and he too turned when the loft door was wrenched open by a very pissed looking Chazz.

"Sid..." Chazz looked ready to continue his yelling at the older brother when he spotted the others, "A wah huh?" He asked looking confused.

"SURPRISE!!!" Sid yelled and Chazz promptly smacked Sid for scaring him. After the slight scuffle between the two, Chazz got Sid to let him go and reluctantly invited the gang in.

"So Chazz... You live here. With Jaden now." Alexis asked as she walked around the room, looking at everything.

"Yeah. It was closes to walk to." Chazz commented. He then proceeded to drag the chairs he had fallen over when he came up the outside stairs and through and opening window/door.

"Close to what?" Bastion asked him.

"From my brother's house."

"Yeah. They told use you had been kicked out. We tried to call and invite you and stuff." Syrus said lamely.

"Well I’ve been alright here. The people are pretty cool as long as you pay your way." Chazz told them.

"I'll just be leaving' then. Things to do, people to do. Jay'll be in sometime tomorrow morning. So, Later!" Sid chirped before he rocketed out the door, stumbling over the imaginary nick in the floor.

"He's a little special, perhaps?" Bastion asked as he watched Sid drag the loft door behind him rather clumsily. Chazz just growled and continued his piddling around.

"Yeah, whatever. That bastard, " Chazz was muttering, he then spoke to the others, "The little brat won't be back till about noon tomorrow, he works graveyard shift." Chazz smirked at them. As he went about pulling out extra blankets from a shelf, the floor started shaking and loud music filled the building. Chazz grumbled and ignored it and everyone else.

"Is this a usual occurrence?" Zane questioned shrewdly.

"Just on the weekends. These people stay up and party all weekend every weekend. It's like an illegal nightclub in the basement or something. I don't go down there much." Chazz told them as he threw some leftovers in a worn out microwave, "It'll only get louder in here till they decide to quite down sometime Sunday morning." He shrugged them off.

It was sort of awkward for all of them. Jaden was the one who usually got them on some adventure or another. It was odd, just sitting around doing nothing. Except for Chazz... He was shoveling food into his mouth rather rapidly.

"So..."

"Yeah, so...."

"So...heh heh...so...so...sooooo...so...heh."

"Atticus?"

"Yeah?"

"Shut the fuck up."

The music played loudly through out most of the night and early the next morning. It dwindled down some around noon. The gang had all had a good sleep in. When they woke, Chazz was gone, and there was some eggs and stuff left out for them to have for breakfast. No note or anything. Chazz didn't seem to really even care that his friends were visiting him. After their breakfast, they noticed the volume of the music had picked up some and the thump of the ground was back.

"You think we should go downstairs and wait for Jaden?" Syrus asked.

"They appear to be using the window as a door here." Bastion told him, pointing towards the window.

"Yeah. If you can make it up the steps." Chazz commented. Syrus jumped at his voice and held his hand to his heart.

"Chazz! Where did you come from?” Syrus asked.

"Down talking to Sid and paying my share of the rent." He told them.

"Oh. Did you see Jaden?"

"Do I look like his freakin' keeper to you?" Chazz growled. When Syrus looked taken aback, Chazz sighed, “Look. I'll go drag him up here if you really want to see him right now, but I warn you, he's probably so hyped up he won't be able to sit still but for a few minutes." He finished telling them and went to leave the room again.

"Wait!" Alexis jumped up, "We'll just come down with you." She answered his questioning look. It was sort of weird for Chazz to not trying to get her to love him, but it was a welcome change since she and Zane had hooked up over the summer.

"Whatever, but I'm already gonna say, 'I told you so'. I'm telling you right now you don't want to go down there." He told them but they were insistent that they be allowed to go with him down to where Jaden was.

The music got steadily louder as the made their way through the lobby to a different set of stairs that would take them to the basement. As Chazz lead them into the quasi-nightclub in the basement of the apartment building, they were even more wide eyed. The place reeked of alcohol and smoke and people were dancing, and a few were even getting a little personal. Chazz easily slipped trough the small crowd toward the back of the room. He pulled them down into a booth like set up and told them to just wait on him.
