~*Year 2199.*~
Yami Mutou, prince of the Vampire Kingdom, walked through the desolate city streets. He pushed a lock of blonde hair out of his eyes and continued down the dirt path. He lifted the black cloak over his head to conceal his identity. He was running away from the palace again. He hated it there, with his stepfather and king of the Vampires, Pegasus. He disliked everyone in the palace from his chambermaid Anzu to the elders on the council.
It wasn't the first time he had run away. The guards usually caught him before he reached the city gates but he made sure they were asleep this time before his escape.
He smiled, sweeping his crimson orbs over the barren land in front of him. He could make out lights and smoke ahead, which meant a village was nearby and that he would be able to rest at.
Walking forward, he couldn't believe he was really out of that damned palace. It was horrible there, everything was dark and serious. He was taught every day how to conquer and fight and be victorious and how not to take no for an answer. He was, after all, the heir to the throne and the future of all the vampires in the world.
But he wasn't even the King's real son so why did he have to rule? Why couldn't Seto Kaiba, Pegasus's favorite mage and fiancé to Yami, rule the kingdom? He was certainly much more responsible.
Yami continued to stride until he reach the small town just outside his city. He figured he would stay there the day...
~~~`
The small tri-haired half-breed smiled, pouncing on his tail. He giggled, chasing it around and around like a puppy would its tail. He grinned in a self-satisfactory way when he succeeded in catching the white fluff in his mouth. The soft fur tickled against his chin and he giggled, releasing the tail and scampering through the deserted streets.
He had awoken in the year 2190 still at the age of five years in a lab which he escaped from. He lived with an elderly man named Sugoruko before vampires had killed him for housing an Anatian. Yugi had fled as the elder man's last wish for him and had until a few years back been a street rat in the town of Domino. He was ten then and fourteen now.
Luckily, he had been offered a job and a place to stay by a white haired human named Ryou Ishtar and his brother Malik Ishtar. The brothers worked at a small restaurant in the town that was very popular to the locals and tourists as well. He served as a waiter there and after a few years had managed to buy a tiny apartment of his own.
He walked into the eatery and put on his light blue waiter apron. Sighing at how girlish he looked, he went to the back to go get a pen and a bill sheet.
~~~`
Yugi yawned as he walked down the deserted streets of Domino city. It was mid-afternoon and he had just finished eating. He walked down the rode, looking at the many tall buildings and shops. He was happy he was done work so he could go home and rest.
He was shocked as he felt two arms grab him and throw him into an alleyway.
"Give us all the money you got, little one!"
"I-I don't have anything I swear!"
"I don't believe him!" the woman of the group sneered, moving a strand of greasy pink hair out of her face.
A black haired teen nodded, "he's got to have something else!"
The burly man who had captured him sauntered forward, cracking his knuckles. Yugi yelped and attempted to run bun was caught by the black haired boy, "where are you going, cutie?"
"Yes we just want to have a little fun," the girl said in a fake sweet voice, laughing as the big guy punching him in the stomach.
After beating him and stealing the little money he had, they left him there.
~~~`
Yami sighed contentedly as he stepped out of the restaurant. He had just eaten a nice meal and was ready to continue his journey.
A moaning came from the alleyway by the restaurant. Raising an eyebrow, he stepped inside; surprised to see a small boy lying in there all bruised and bloodied.
"Oh my Ra!" he cried. He ran forward and knelt beside the boy, gasping at the similarities in their appearances and idly noted the attractive petite form the other had.
//He-he's very cute//
He picked the boy up and started walking out of the alley, thinking he'd have to walk back to the palace now. Not seeing the old banana peel on the ground, he fell forward, crushing the smaller boy beneath him
The shorter groaned, blinking his eyes opened and looking around the alley, landing his frightened orbs on the tall form above him. He gasped as he noticed they looked identical. Shaking his head, the taller pushed himself up, offering the other a hand. The smaller hesitantly took it and shied away from Yami.
"It's alright, little one. I will not hurt you. My name is Yami."
The boy looked doubtful but answered anyways, "I-I'm Yugi."
Yami smiled, taking the boy in his arms once more and starting to walk towards the city's exit.
"Where are you taking me?" Yugi panicked, fighting against Yami's arms.
"Don't worry little one. I'm taking you to my home. You're injured and it would be bad for you to take care of yourself. I'll help you, don't worry," the prince soothed.
The amethyst eyed boy nodded, resting his head on Yami's shoulder and nuzzling his face into the other's neck.
For some reason...this boy felt familiar to Yami...
~~~``
"You disobeyed me again! Howe many times have I told you to stay inside the palace walls? Yet you insist on running out and exploring the world outside?" Pegasus roared.
Yami flinched at the king's tone, looking down at the ground and sighing, "I'm sorry it just gets so dark here. Plus it teaches me that the world outside here is cruel," Yami sheepishly explained.
Pegasus scowled, "just go to your room. And I do not wish to see your face until supper."
~~~`
Yugi blinked as he stared around the gold furnished room. He had woken up there and away from his home. He was scared and the last thing he remembered was the man who looked like him taking him out of the alley.
The door opened and the said person he remembered stepped inside. He looked very irritated and tired at the same time.
"Y-Yami?" he asked, partially wondering if he got the name correct.
The taller groaned slightly as an answer and slumped down face first on the bed, mumbling that he hated his life. Yugi cocked his head to the side, crawling over to the teen and nestling close to him, "do you live here?" he asked.
Yami nodded, turning over to face Yugi, "I do. My stepfather is king of the vampuires."
"V-Vampires?" the small one asked fearfully.
"You don't like vampires?"
Yugi looked down, nodding, "a group of them killed my grandpa. I'm sorry if I offend you by not liking them."
"It's okay. I'm not even one. Like I said, I'm adopted."
Yugi nodded and rested his head under the other's, "Yami why did you help me?"
The crimson eyed boy looked confused, "why not?"
"Lots of people don't like me where I come from. They think I'm weak. Anyone else would have just let me die."
"Well I'm not anyone else I'm me."
"I know. Yami?"
"Yes?"
Yugi blushed, "thank you. I feel as though I know you....Like we're old friends."
Yami smiled, eyes widening as something furry brushed against his leg. He looked down to see a fluffy white cat's tail covering it, swishing back and forth happily. He hadn't noticed that the boy was half-cat before then. Yet it felt familiar...Yugi felt familiar and he felt...right in his arms like that.
"I know what you mean, Yugi. I feel like I know you too."
