CHAPTER THREE

THE AMATURE JUDGES

"Sign me up in the Miss Duel Monsters Pageant," Marik snarled at a Rare Hunter, "Sign me up as Maryanne Summers." The Rare Hunter snickered at the name to himself and made his way to Kaiba Corp to sign Marik up.

Marik stood and faced himself in the mirror. What did he have to do to himself in order for him to win. He had gotten an informational paper telling of what the contestants had to do. He read it to himself:

All contestants will have to:

Walk up on stage in nice clothing for the judges.

Walk up on stage dressed up as a duel monster.

NO SWIM SUIT CONTEST THIS TIME.

Show a special talent not including duel monsters.

Finish a task testing strength.

Use dueling abilities in a duel.

Watch or be crowned "Miss Queen of Duel Monsters."

Marik looked through the list once again. Thank Ra there wasn't going to be a swim suit contest. He knew well that Seto Kaiba was hosting this pageant and he knew that Seto Kaiba wasn't going to have a Swim Suit contest. Imagine Seto Kaiba drooling over half naked girls was not possible. Still he had to be able to trick Seto Kaiba and whoever he has made the judges of this pageant. He pulled out a makeup bag that he had stolen from Ishizu. After watching Ishizu a few times, he had confidence in himself and slowly applied the mascara, the eyeliner, the eye shadow, and so on. He then went onto the rest of his face and then his hair and then the rest of his body, picking out the correct type of perfume and the correct clothing. He no longer looked like Marik Ishtar. He was now Maryanne Summers, a pretty girl with short curly blond hair, blue eyes (he wore colored contacts in), and in a pretty blue dress that matched his, I mean her, eyes.

There was a knock on the door of Room 206 in Domino Hospital. Joey, Tristan, Duke, Yugi, and Serenity were surprised by the sudden sound. Yugi opened the door, expecting the doctor or a nurse. Most unexpected, it was Seto Kaiba.

"Yugi, Joey, and all of the rest of you losers, I knew I'd find you here," Seto murmured. How he knew was a mystery to them, but they just listened to what he had to say. "Well, I'm hosting a Duel Monsters Beauty Pageant - - -"

There was a hoot of laughter coming from Joey. "Kaiba, ya sayin that you are hostin' a BEAUTY CONTEST? I didn't know you were like that!"

Seto growled and yelled, "Shut up you dumb puppy dog. As I was saying, I'm hosting a beauty pageant and well… I'm going to need some help."

"What type of help do you need?" Yugi asked.

"I need judges," Seto said stiffly.

Yugi, Tristan, and Joey looked at each other not knowing whether or not they should help Seto with this. Also none of them were experienced as judges. "How many do you need?" Tristan asked.

"Five."

"Well, there are four of us here, and I can call up Bakura and ask him if you want," Tristan said.

"What do you mean four, I only see three?" Seto said deeply annoyed.

"There's me, Yugi, Joey, and Duke," Tristan said.

"Duke? You think I'm going to have a person with a cast on being a judge. Remember this is broadcasted worldwide."

"Well, can any of the judges be girls?" Joey asked looking at his sister.

"No. Of course not," Seto said. "If your sister wants to be a part of this, tell her to join. But I encourage everyone not too. The less the better," he snarled. "Okay, Joey, Tristan, Yugi, Bakura, and I'll find one last person.

Serenity looked hurt when he said that. She felt that he was making fun of her.

"So Kaiba, why is it that you are having us be ya judges?" Joey asked. "I mean we're just a group of amateurs that haven't ever judged before."

"Because…I don't care who's going to win at the end. As long as…" he stopped a saw Serenity listening to what they were saying. "Are you going to enter?" he snapped at Serenity.

"I don't know. Maybe," she said silently. She wanted to join to get back at him, although that wasn't the type of thing she would normally do to anyone.

Seto turned away from her as he whispered to the rest, "As long as you don't give a lot of points to one specific person."

Tristan raised his eyebrow, "And who is this specific person?"

Seto smiled. Marik entering was quite funny. "You'll be able to tell on that day. And if you're too dumb to know, I'll tell you on that day."

Joey looked puzzled. "So you're not going to tell us, but we'll just automatically know?"

"Yes. It will, I think, will be obvious," Seto said snickering thinking of what Marik would turn up to look like.

"Okay, we agree to do this for you. I've got to go call Bakura about this later," Yugi said.

"Sure, I'll tell you guys when you have to show up and exactly what you have to do later on. I have to leave now," Seto shut the door behind him and left.

After Seto left, Joey turned to his sister and asked, "So ya goin ta join, Sis?"

Serenity looked confidently at her brother, "Sure I am."

"That looks gorgeous on you!" Mai exclaimed Tea as she tried on a satin blue dress. The three had stopped by Kaiba Corp to sign themselves up and picked up the information sheet. Now, they had stopped by the mall, to pick up all the clothes, costumes, and anything else they were going to need for this competition. At this moment, they had picked out everything but their dress.

Mai had gone through a nearly the entire mall's selection of purple dresses, but wasn't satisfied with a single one. She however had a good time complementing how Tea and Katrina looked in their dresses. While after looking for a dress that Katrina might like, she came across the perfect dress. It was short purple dress that laced up at the top, and no straps. It was one of a kind, and it fit her perfectly.

After all three were satisfied with all their clothes, they paid for them, costing a large amount of money. While leaving the store, they ran into Monika, a girl from school.

Unlike most of the girls at school, Monika didn't have any friends and was subjected to teasing. It wasn't because she was ugly, she was actually quite nice looking, but she had been too quiet, and never spoke up for herself. Long ago she had worn glasses and was teased because of them. She took all the teasing and didn't talk back to any of the classmates. Now Monika had gotten rid of the glasses and wore contacts, she was still made fun of. Something that none of the classmates knew was that she had a secret crush on Bakura.

As the three past poor Monika, Katrina waved and smile. Monika shot her a dark glance. She wasn't used to being treated nicely and thought that everyone was just trying to mock her. She turned the other way, and walked away quickly.

Ishizu rummaged through all her stuff looking for her makeup bag. "Dang, where can it be!" she shouted to herself. "I need it for the competition!"

It's Seto Kaiba, not Marik. I know that my fan fictions have focused on him, but hey! It's because he's fun to write about.
