Ch.36: Memory Lane (pt2): Puzzle

Days pass into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years. For a tomb in the Valley of the Kings, countless of times people, from thieves to archeologists, entered the sacred ground, but never returned. No one was able to retrieve treasures or information from that tomb. At least, until one night…

A mid-aged man in a tux entered the tomb with two Egyptian guides. When they entered the tomb, the first challenge was a test of loyalty towards the Pharaoh. Unfountunity, one of the guides died a horrific death. The next challenge was the test of the soul, if the soul is strong, he shall pass unharmed, and as for the weak soul you get the idea.

Before the tuxed man fully completed the challenge, the Egyptian guide shot him in the shoulder, thus causing the man to almost fall into the endless pitch-black pit.

“See you, in Hell, Mr. Mouto.” The guide as he crossed the bridge, but before he made it across, a monster appeared before him. Before he could get away, the monster lunged itself and ate him.

For Mr. Mouto, he held onto the side of the bridge, but he felt as though he was slipping. But then a silhouette figure came up to Mr. Mouto and bent down.

“I have been waiting, Saimon.” The figure said to him as he reached out his hand.

Mr. Mouto woke up, wondering if it was the pharaoh's spirit that saved his life. Then he turned his attention at the golden box that sat on top of a stone table. He picked up the box and realized, that even though he's a gamer, he knew that this puzzle was not made for him. He then made his way out of the tomb, with the golden box in hand.

~Years Later: Game Shop~
“Happy Birthday Yugi!” Mr. Mouto, now Grandpa, said as he handed his gift to his now eight-year-old grandson.

“Thanks Grandpa!” The young Yugi said as he opened his gift. “Wow!” He exclaimed when he saw the golden box. “What is it Grandpa?” He opened the box and held onto one of the pieces.

“It's called the Millennium Puzzle.” Grandpa said as he watched in amazement that the boy opened the box so easily, but smiled in knowing that his grandson was destined to do the impossible, completing the puzzle.

~Later that evening~
“Yugi! Time for bed!” Grandpa called out from the bottom step.

“Okay!” Young Yugi called back.

Grandpa went into his room and saw golden pieces scattered all over the young one's bed. “You're still working on that puzzle?” He asked.

“Uh, huh.” Young Yugi said with a bright smile as he carefully put the pieces away into the box.

“I know you really like your puzzle Yugi, but it's time to go to sleep.” Grandpa said as he tucked the child in.

As soon as the elder left, the small child grabbed a flashlight from under his pillow and went under the covers. He grabbed the box and started to work on it, again.

-Atemu's POV-
I laid on the hard, cold ground. `How long have I been here?' I thought, but then I shrugged it off, not caring anymore. I gave up on any hope I have might have that I will be released from this place. `What's the point.' I thought. “Face it Pharaoh, you're going to be here till the end of time.” I said, though deep down, I was screaming for a sign or a miracle, something to convince me wrong on my opinion.

“Hello Puzzle.” A child's voice echoed through the empty place.

`That's it. I'm losing my mind.' I thought.

“My name's Yugi, I'm eight today.” The child called Yugi said. “I know it's kinda crazy that I'm talking to a bunch of pieces, but I don't have friends to talk to.”

I couldn't help but wonder why anyone would not want to be friends with this child.

“Grandpa doesn't know about this alright.” He said in a hush tone.

`Not like I'm going anywhere anytime soon.' I thought.

“Well, you see, I don't have any friends is because: 1) The kids at my school like to make fun of me, because of my spiky hair.”

I felt furious when I heard this.

“And 2) I mostly play games, while other kids like to play sports; I don't like sports.”

I listened to this child, knowing that I'm not going crazy.

“I guess that's it.” He said as he changed the subject. “Grandpa told me this story about this Egyptian king, I think they call him a Pharaoh? Any way, he said that the king once saved the world from being controlled by evil, but ended up giving up his life in the process.”

I remembered that day. `If Seth is still out there, I'm going to kill him.' I thought.

“I have to go to bed now.” He said as I heard a yawn. “Good night, I'll talk to you in the morning.”

`Good night, Yugi.' I thought as I slept, for the frist time in, Ra knows how long, I felt happy, happy to know that the voice came around just when I was about to give up completely.
