Chapter 4

All Or Nothing

In a split second, Yami made up his mind. //I'm going to tell him. If he rejects me, so be it.// He put his necklace back on. //Yuugi?//

/Huh? I thought you were going somewhere./

//I was, but I found out something important. Can I come over?//

Yuugi seemed startle at his request. /Yeah, I suppose that will be all right./

//Great, see you soon.// Yami grinned as he started walking to Yuugi's house.

Yuugi stared at the wall. He got ready for Yami's arrival. He defiantly noticed his heart beat's increase. "I haven't known him for long, but I feel like we've always known each other." He had the undeniable urge to kiss Yami; to hold him and love him as he had in those visions. "Maybe he could love me the same way. We used to in the past, maybe we could again." He shook his head, realizing how pathetic what he said was. "It would have been much easier if we never met."

/Arg, tomorrow's school. Lucky, nothing happened to me on the way home on Friday. I hope I'm just as lucky tomorrow./

//What are you talking about, Yuugi?//

"Ah!" he cried out. /You're still listening?/

//Kinda hard not to.//

Yuugi laughed. /I'm just talking to myself./

//You didn't answer my question.//

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yami was concerned. //Yuugi?//
/It's noting, Yami./
Yami smiled. //You know, not only can we hear each other's thoughts, but we can also sense each other's feelings.//
/So?/
Yami sighed. //I know you're lying.//
/Yami, can you just drop it?/
Yami's concern grew greater. //Will you ever tell me?//
There was a long pause. /No./
He started walking faster. "Maybe... maybe if I tell him my feelings, he'll tell me what `happens on the way home.' And I swear, if anyone so much as touches Yuugi, I kill `em." He shook his head and laughed. "Now, I know I'm starting to sound like a Pharaoh. Maybe I'll just break a couple of bones instead..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yuugi shook his head at all the complications that were happening. He pulled on a blue jacket to hide the faded bruises from Thursday's walk home. "I can't let Yami know I'm so weak. He'd probably start beating me up, too, if he knew."

"Yuugi! Your friend is here!" he heard his grandpa call up to him.

"Send him up to my room!" Moments later he heard a knock at his door. "Come in."

Yami walked in. "Hey, Yuugi."

"So, why'd you want to come over all of the sudden?"

Yuugi thought he saw Yami blush, but hastily thought that he was mistaken. "Actually, I wanted to know something. I figured it'd be better to ask you in person."

Yuugi sat on his bed and motioned for Yami to take the take next to his desk. "Sure."

Yami sat down. "Well, you know how some people believe that your fate is already determined and that the past repeats itself? Do you believe in that sort of thing?"

The boy looked at Yami oddly. "Well, I think I would have to. We're living proof of it, right? We each lived in the past and were reborn." Yami started fidgeting in the chair, he eventually stood up. "Why do you ask?"

"I-I wanted to know if it was possible for us to love each other again."

Yuugi stood also. "Wh-what do you m-mean?"

"I think that, even after the short time we've known each other, I feel how I did in the past about you. I just can't explain it. I thought that maybe it was just because of the memories, but it couldn't just be it. I think I love-"

"No."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yami turned at Yuugi's sharp voice. "What?"
"You don't."
Yuugi's face was white. "What do you mean I don't? I think I would know how I feel."
Yuugi backed away a bit. "You don't know me, Yami."
He started boiling with rage. "You don't know me either, Yuugi."
Yuugi smiled. "If I don't know you and you don't know me, then we don't know each other, that is why it's ridiculous for you to love me."
Yami stared at him with disbelief. Could Yuugi be this hurtful? He had thought it impossible, but now he no longer knew what to believe. //Well, what did I expect? I just wanted him to know my feelings and I told him. That's all I could do.//
Yuugi nodded. "Yami, just forget about me. Go back home, take off that necklace and forget. I'm going to do the same. We shouldn't have to be bonded by the past." Yuugi took off his necklace and put it on the desk.
Yami looked at it. He picked it up and then looked at Yuugi. He let his build up of rage go as he threw the necklace at the wall. It shattered. Yuugi burst into tears, but that didn't stop Yami from leaving.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yuugi fell onto his bed after Yami left. /I did it. Then why do I feel so sad?/ He started crying even louder. /Because I love him. But I'm weak. I'm not the cheerful happy boy my grandpa sees in me. He doesn't know what I go through at school. School... Yami goes to my school, too./ He briefly wondered if he would see him there. What would he say?

He dried his face on his blankets. He then remembered his broken necklace. He picked up all the pieces and put the on his bed. For an unknown reason, he started reassembling the pieces. /What am I doing? He's not gonna want to see me again./ Sighing, he kept putting the pieces together.

He stopped after a while to rest. Staring at the puzzle he was once again lost in the past.

~*~*~*~FLASHBACK~*~*~*~

**"Again?" Yuugi muttered to himself. "When will this end?" Looking around he quickly found `himself.' Looking at what `he' was doing, he saw a few pieces of the puzzle on the bed.**

It was about mid-day when Yuugi came down to the finial pieces. /Just a couple more./ Finally, there was one piece left. The one with the Pharaoh's symbol on it. /Well, it's now or never,/ He placed the last piece in place. "I did it!" He held it up. "Hmm, it's missing something, though. He found a piece of rope. "This will do." He put the end of the rope through the ring and then tied it around his neck.

He felt the familiar weight of the item and it finally made him feel more normal. Now, all he had to do was talk to Yami. /Y-Yami?/

~*~*~*~END OF FLASHBACK~*~*~*~

Yuugi jumped. /Did... did he answer?/ He found himself wanting to be back into the world of the past to see what happened. /If I call out, will he answer?/ Yuugi shook his head. /No, it would be best to let it be. But not before I finish putting it together.../ With his resolve, he set back to work.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yami stomped home, quite literally. He got weird looks from the people around him and he was tempt to yell, "Off with their heads." //Very fitting, Yami.// he congratulated himself. //That did NOT go right.// He looked down at his necklace and cursed.
He finally reached his house and went inside, slamming the front door shut. He took off his necklace and threw it on the bed. //At least it was better than the wall.// He laid next to it and released a deep breath. //I need to get away from this. A quick trip to the arcade will do the trick.// He started to put the necklace on, but then decided against it and left for the arcade.
Y-n-Y: Relapsing into bad habits aren't we, Yami?
Yami: You made me!!
Y-n-Y: It was still you.
Yuugi: sniff ... smashing puzzle again .... geez .... that thing one day will end up inrepairable.
Y-n-Y: You have to stop being so destructive, Yami.
Yami: Yeah, well what about that game you play on Neopets? You look pretty happy blowing those blocks up. ¬_¬
Y-n-Y: Heh, heh... n_n;;
Yuugi: ::sighs:: My puzzle...
Y-n-Y: ::sigh:: I don't think Yuugi knows the difference between reality and fantasy. All well... please review! ^_^
