Chapter 3
Disclaimer:
Standards apply. Angelique and Tenshi are both my own creations. The other new characters that are introduced belong to my friends Raven, Kayla, and Arielle.
Okay guys. A little authors note for y'all. The pairings so far are Angel and Kaiba, Malik and Raven, and for this chapter, Cynthia and Yami. Yes, Yami, not Yugi. Little Yugi will be a minor character in this story, sorry. Also, after I bring in the last two couples, I will begin to get more in depth with each character and how she/he receive their item and befriended his/her Yami. Should be interesting, no? ^.^ Enjoy!

He sighed as he looked out of the front door of the game shop where he had worked for the last few months. It had been another one of those long days for him where the customers were few and far in between and the heat of summer was slowly becoming unbearable. He looked at the clock on the far right wall, leaning forward on his elbows against the glass top of the counter from whence he stood behind.
Another sigh came from his lips. It was nearing four thirty. He knew his roommate would soon be home with his friends in tow. It wasn't that he was upset that the boy had friends. It just seemed that since he had gotten his own body back and was no longer part of the boy that he was out of sight as well out of mind. He sighed. So maybe he was jealous that Yugi didn't come to him with his problems anymore like he was used to. But that still didn't change the fact that the boy was his child in the past. Even though he had different parents in this time, it was still as if he felt paternal to the child.
He shook his head. It was hopeless thinking such things. Yugi had no memories of Egypt. He never could again. He himself had rid the child of all of those pains before he sent him into the future where he might be safe and happy. He sniffed and rubbed his dark violet eyes a moment. The past was the past. No use digging it up he thought as he heard the bell above the door ring.
He looked towards it, the black and purple spikes of his hair swaying a little as his blonde bangs moved along with the turn of his head, falling into his wild, devil like eyes a moment. Seeing that it was not his young friend, he smiled at the customer.
It was then that he noticed three things. One that it was a girl who had entered the shop and two she was in a wheel chair. Three was the fact that she looked a little lost. "Hello?" He asked as he walked over to her. "Welcome to the Turtle Game Shop. I'm Yami, how may I help you?" He went on, his voice deep; mature for his age of 21.
"Oh, good. I am in the right place then." The girl said, smiling at him. "I'm Cynthia. I'm here to pick up a gift for a friend's sister. Her birthday is coming up in the next week or so and I have no idea what to get her."
Yami smiled and leaned against the counter that ran all the way around the room. "Tell me what she's like. I might be able to help you in your search." He said as he crossed his arms over his chest, his black shirt clinging to him as he did. He crossed his long legs, his leather pant legs rubbing against one another.
"Well… she's turning ten. Her name is Selene and she has a love for collecting all kinds of cards weather it be Duel Monsters or story books cards." Cynthia went on, her brown eyes not looking at Yami as she talked. He took notice of this as her pale tan arms rested on their rests on either side of her chair, her hands hanging over the edge of them as she moved them while she talked.
He looked at her eyes. Was she blind? He could not tell. He forgot it for the moment and listened to her. "Well, we do have a vast supply of Duel Monsters cards here. We have everything from trap cards to common monsters to even a few ultra rares once in a while." He said.
She gasped in delight and clapped her hands together softly, her shoulder length medium brown hair flaring behind her as she did so. "Oh, that's wonderful. Mind if I look at some?"
Yami smiled and nodded, walking behind the counter and reaching in it after unlocking a door with a key that hung from a chain at one of his two belts. Kneeling down, he pulled out a small pack of cards that he had opened for display earlier. Standing once more, he leaned on the counter and handed her a few of the cards.
"These are some beginners magic cards." He said, watching her as she looked at each one hard, as if studying it or trying to make out the writing on it as if it were in a language she did not know. "Is something the matter?" He asked gently.
Cynthia bit her lip a moment. "I… I can read these cards… I… I'm blind…" she said, handing the cards back to him and looking downward towards her lap. "I best be going. I don't want to be a waste of your time." She whispered, turning her chair before he had a chance to blink and headed the way she had come in.
Yami gasped and jumped over the counter, trying to reach her before she managed to get out of the store. "Miss. Cynthia! Please, wait! I didn't mean to offend you!" He called to her as he ran and dropped to his knees, skidding across the tile floor a little on his leather pants as he stopped beside her. "Please, miss. Don't go. I don't mind that you're blind. I mean, it's something you can't control." He said, a hand placed over hers as he spoke.
She looked at him and smiled, a tear falling from her eye. He was one of the first people not to judge her badly for her sight. She hugged him. "Thank you." She whispered.
Yami smiled and hugged her back, closing his eyes as he did so. For some odd reason, though, there was this odd feeling about her. Had he known her in Egypt?
