Chapter 4
Disclaimer:
Standards apply. Angelique and Tenshi are both my own creations. The other new characters that are introduced belong to my friends Raven, Kayla, and Arielle.
Okay guys. A little authors note for y'all. The pairings so far are Angel and Kaiba, Malik and Raven, Cynthia and Yami, and for this chapter, Tristan and Serenity. Also, after I bring in the last two couples, I will begin to get more in depth with each character and how she/he receive their item and befriended his/her Yami. Should be interesting, no? ^.^ Enjoy!

He sighed as he looked out of his bedroom window. Scratching the back of his neck as he stretched, he blinked sleep from his eyes. Another weekend had come and he was more than happy for the chance that he had to sleep in. Stretching once more as he looked at his alarm clock when it chimed the hour of noon, he pulled off his white muscle shirt and headed for the shower. Turning on the water, he let it run a moment, brushing his teeth.
` I wonder what I should do today… ' He wondered before totally undressing and stepping under the luke warm water that fell from the showerhead above him, closing the glass shower door behind him. He sighed, relaxing a little into the cool yet warm feeling of the water, washing himself slowly.
Moments later, he came from the bathroom, a pair of black slacks on and a towel around his neck, using his long fingers to run the towel through his brown hair, his chocolate colored eyes closed. "Well…. That was refreshing…" He said as he walked into his room and tossed the towel into the hamper beside his closet door.
Stretching his long and lithe limbs once more, he dug into his closet for a shirt. After pulling his head through a white t-shirt and yanking on a black blazer to match his pants, he ran a brush and some gel through his hair. It was then that he heard his mom call him.
"Tristan! Are you up yet, boy?!" She called from the dinning room, an apron around her waist, covering her blue and yellow housedress. She sighed as no answer came from her son, wiping the flour on her hands onto her apron. "TRISTAN!"
"Be right down, Ma!" he called, yanking on a pair of socks before running out of his room, slamming his door behind him. For the age of sixteen, Tristan Taylor had a very, should we say, busy life?
Sighing, his mother shook her head, her curly brown hair swaying behind her as she did so before going back into her kitchen. She smiled as she heard the sounds of feet running down the steps moments later and across the hardwood floor of the dinning room. Turning as she felt an arm loop around her shoulders, she looked at the young face of her much taller son.
"Hey, Ma." He said, kissing her cheek before sitting down at the table. "What's for breakfast?"
"Don't you mean lunch?" She giggled, placing a plate of food in front of him.
"Eh, eh… good point, Ma." He chuckled before digging into the baked potato on his plate.
"I called you at breakfast time as I always do. But all you just continued to snore on. I couldn't bring myself to wake you after how late you were out last night with Yugi and Joey." She said before placing a cup of soda and ice in front of him as well, tending to the oven as a timer went off.
"But at least I was home when I said I would be… unlike my sister…" He grumbled. Anna was always out late and was always in trouble. She was nineteen and saw her whole family as inferior to her. But Tristan didn't let that get to him. She was never around much to bother with anymore.
"She's a growing woman and your father and I cannot control what she does, you know that, Tristan." His mother said, placing a tray of cookies and a pie out on the counter to cool. "And speaking of growing up…" She said before picking up a purple envelope that had the name "Serenity" on the front of it in Tristan's hand writing and holding it out to her son. "Why was this on the kitchen table when I got up this morning?"
Tristan gasped and jumped up, mouth full of his ham sandwich. "TODAY'S SERENITY'S BIRTHDAY!" He screamed before snatching the card from his mother and swallowing the food in his mouth, kissing his mother. "Thanks for reminding, Ma! I gotta go and get those concert tickets!" He exclaimed, grabbing his other sandwich to go before racing over to the door and tossing off his house shoes and pulling on his sneakers.
"I'll be back around 10 tonight! I've got the cell, so don't worry!" He then raced out of the door and to the garage, stuffing the card inside of the pocket on the inner side of his jacket, his sandwich hanging out of his mouth as he opened the garage door and yanked on a helmet.
Moments later, the sounds of his bike were heard as he sped out of the driveway and down the street towards town. ` Man, I knew I had something to do today… How could I forget her birthday of all things?! ' He mentally kicked himself, finishing the last of his sandwich as he stopped at a light, sighing. ` I hope the ticket box is still open… ' He thought to himself, looking down at his watch. It was almost 2 in the afternoon and the concert would start at 5.
When the light turned green he sped off once more, making a turn into a parking lot. Turning off the motor to his bike, he jumped off and ran for the ticket window on the side of the building. The line was short, thank god. He yanked off his helmet at the same time that he stepped up to the window about half an hour later. "Do you have any tickets left for the 5 o'clock concert tonight?"
The clerk in front of him nodded his head, his black glasses glistening in the light that came through the window. "We have two left for the front row, sir."
` PERFECT! ' Tristan's eyes lit up as he pulled out his wallet. "I'll take `em." He said. As he sat down his helmet on the ledge in front of the window, he pulled out a few bills.
"That will be five hundred and twenty dollars, sir." The clerk said, yawning a little as he turned on a small fan in front of him.
Tristan's eyes widened a little. ` Maybe it was a good thing that I did that extra work for Grandpa at the game shop then… ' He thought silently, handing the money over to the clerk. He had worked for months for this. He wasn't about to let it get him down. Serenity's 14th birthday should be celebrated in the best way possible. Not that she was his girlfriend or anything. He just had a really bad crush on her.
Taking the tickets, he placed on his helmet, the teen dashed for his bike once more and sped off down the street, the papers safe in his pocket along with the card. It was almost three thirty when he reached Serenity's house on the other side of Domino City. He had just enough time to give her the card, take her to dinner, and get to the concert. Checking his breath and teeth in the mirror of his bike before heading up the steps to her porch, he took a deep inhale of breath. ` Here goes nothing… ' He thought to himself.
Knocking on the door, he closed his eyes, the card in his hand. On his way over to the small house, he had stopped at a flower shop and picked up a small bouquet of roses and bluebells, placing Serenity's ticket inside of the card as well. He prayed that she was home.
"Hold on a moment, please!" He heard her call from inside, the sounds of a door latch falling open echoing the sounds of her young voice. Her emerald eyes glowed with her bright smile when she saw him. "Oh, Tristan! What a surprise!"
He smiled and opened his arms in a hug to her, wrapping her thin body in his strong embrace a moment, smiling into her red-brown hair. "Happy birthday, Serenity." He whispered as he hugged her. Pulling back he placed the bouquet into her hands.
She gasped, touching the flowers gently, marveling at them. "Oh my… Tristan…. They're lovely…" She blushed, standing on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek in thanks. "Come inside." She said, taking his hand and leading him in.
As he took off his shoes, Serenity placed the flowers in a vase. Turning back around to him, she gasped as she saw him holding a card out to her. "Tristan, you didn't have to go through all of this for my birthday, really." She said, sitting down on a couch in the parlor to open it, patting the empty seat beside her.
Smiling, he watched her open the card, sitting forward on the offered seat she had given him, leaning on his knees with his elbows. A brighter smile came to her face as she read the front of the card, but her smile faded a moment later to one of shock as she saw the ticket upon opening the card. "Tri… Tristan…" She looked at him. "The concert I wanted to go to… But… how…"
He placed a finger over her lips. "Don't worry about it…" He smiled. "Want to go?"
"I'd love to!" She cried before wrapping her arms around his neck in a tight hug. "Oh, Tristan! Thanks to you, this is going to be the best birthday ever!"
He hugged her back. "Well, it wouldn't be complete without dinner, now would it?"
She gasped and looked up into his eyes. She then placed her hands on her hips, giving him a suspicious look. "Are you asking me out on a date?"
` Shit… ' he thought, biting his lip. "Well…. I…. Um…."
She giggled and kissed his cheek. "Give me five minutes and I'll be ready to go…" She said before going to her room to clean up a little. He grinned, relaxing. That was easier then he had thought… One problem then came to his mind.
He jumped up. "Oh man… what will happen when her brother finds out?" he winced inwardly. He was going to be in big trouble.
Authors note: I have no clue if Tristan really DOES have a sister, but for the effects of the beginning of the chapter, he does for this fan fic. Also, I am not really sure if that is what his Mom looks like, so don't shoot me if I am wrong, guys! ^.^ R and R!
