Chapter 16: Comparing

I'm becoming more confused,
I still don't know which love to choose,

The passion in the glow of the moonlight,
The love filled touches of secrecy,
The cries of ecstasy,
A past shrouded in mystery,

The small favors,
The soft gazes,
The changes just for me,
A future unknown,

From my perspective,
It's hard to for others to see,
How hard this choice is for me,

I know I loved her and she loved me too,
Yet I know I love him and he loves me too
I'm stuck comparing,
The lovers of my life,
I need to choose wisely,
To end this strife

Through the garden ran a river, smooth and crystal clear. The trees in there grew to massive heights and the plants were always in bloom. At the center of it, where the river went through, was a ceramic lake(2). A twelve year old Ma'at skipped along the gardens. From perfectly polished stone to perfectly polished stone. She had been sent outside because the adults thought she might be in the way. Even so she was happy, she was going to have a little baby brother to take care of. She could just envision herself helping with raising him. She was still baffled at how the priests and priestesses knew it was going to be a boy. When she had asked her father had simply said, “One day you will know but for now suffice to say it is the will of the God's that has given our midwives(3) and priestesses this ability.” She was still slightly confused but decided she wouldn't mess with things of the God's although she was pretty sure that child birth went under the Goddesses' rule. She tried hard to think of the Goddess to pray to. Her mother had been slightly ill and Ma'at had heard of awful stories of women dying in child birth, sometimes the babe dying with them.

Sighing she sat down next to the lake. She stripped her shoes off and dipped her delicate feet into the crystal water. She closed her eyes and concentrated on the image of a cool calm lake. She then thought of a balance and took calm, deep breaths.(4)Putting her arms in meditative position next to her she concentrated on the world around her. She could hear the breeze shuffling the grass, the groan and grunts and the laughter of the people outside of the city walls. Ma'at heard the soft gurgle of the river's end in the distance and the movement of small rodents around the palace. Breathing in deeply she began to pray.

`Please, Lord and Lady, Great Mother and Father, any of the God's and Goddesses who are listening help my mother and my brother. Keep them safe I plead to you. I ask you to give her strength to survive this and strength for the child as well. Keep them safe and protect them. Please, with harm to none so mote it be,' she thought willing positive images into her mind and sending them out.(5)

She was startled out of her trance as a hand came down upon her shoulder. Turning sharply she found Nadia standing there staring at her.

“I'm sorry I didn't hear you,” Ma'at said standing up and collecting her shoes.

Nadia smiled while shaking her head, “I said you may come in now Princess. The child birth was successful both mother and son survived.”

As Nadia finished her sentence Ma'at was already bolting through the garden towards the entrance to the palace. Skidding along the halls she ran into her parent's bed chamber. Panting she grasped the wall for support. Her mother was lying on the bed, her brow sweaty, with a bundle in her arms. Her father was sitting in the other side staring gently into the face of his son. Ma'at's mother looked up and beckoned her closer. With shaky legs she peeked over the bed and into the face of her baby brother. She loved him from the spot, little did she know she would one day hate that face and the very existence of him.

Nadia watched the young princess. She wasn't sure how she should look so she ket her face blank. There was a soft smile on Ma'at's face as she leaned against the window of the plane, her eyes closed. As she continued to watch her young mistress she barely noticed someone stand next to her.

“Excuse me sir, what would you like to eat” the young woman asked.

Nadia turned to find a young woman with pinned up brown hair standing next to them with a cart.

“Uhm the vegetarian for me and Number 3 for her,” she said already having read the menu while Ma'at had been sleeping.

Feeling guilty she nudged Ma'at awake.

“Honey the food's here,” she said softly while Ma'at blinked away sleep.

Yawing she glared at Nadia and sat up with a groan. She pulled her table down(6) and waited for the woman to place her food onto it. Nadia thanked the woman and turned to Ma'at.

“Did you have a good sleep your highness?” she asked while opening her food tray.

Ma'at groaned in response and popped open her tray.

“Not to cause you more worried but shouldn't we re open the link between you and sir Ryou soon? Although you will not have control of which thoughts you two share wouldn't it be beneficial?” Nadia suggested while taking a bite out of her salad.

“Yes…you are right. After out meal I should have enough energy, with your help of course, to open our already existing link. It would take too much time to try and open another one without his consent and help,” Ma'at agreed pointing out the small requirement.

So the two ate their meal and waited until the same woman had gotten their food and left to start. Nadia gently laid her hand onto Ma'at's and concentrated on feeding her energy into her. The priestess could feel Ma'at's aura and magical reserve strengthening. Breathing deeply Ma'at let herself be engulfed in the light of her magic. Closing her eyes she concentrated in the energy inside of her and started to bring it to the surface.

“Mistress, you should not do it the way you usually do, concentrate the moving inside of you; you are beginning to glow,” Nadia whispered.

Redirecting her energy she searched for the link that connected her and her beloved. Finally she found it. Feeding energy into it she felt it open with a sharp snap that slightly jolted her, the link was renewed. Panting she opened her eyes and leaned against the cool window.

“It's done,” she whispered before falling asleep once more.

Back in Japan Ryou jumped in the shower a quick sharp pain entering his mind. He closed his eyes concentrating for a moment only noticing the feel of the water rolling off of him. Looking deep inside he found something, he wasn't sure what. Pulling it to the surface he thought it felt like a link, but not really like the link he and Bakura shared. Without warning he felt himself enter somebody else's mind. Looking around he saw nothing but black. Suddenly an image started to appear around him.

It was dark outside and he noticed that he was in the middle of an oasis. He could see the starts so clearly and despite it being so late it seemed warm at the oasis. He turned around at the sound of feet. He spotted a girl of around seventeen that he quickly identified as Ma'at. She wore the outfit of a peasant and creped along the bushes as if she was not supposed to be here, wherever here was. Squinting he followed her and gasped at what he saw. There he was standing near the other side of the oasis. He was slightly tanner and his hair was somewhat shorter. `Ryou' turned around as he heard someone approach. Seeing who it was he smiled and walked slowly towards her. As they came within range of each other she leaped into his arms. The two embraced for what seemed like forever. Pulling apart slightly `Ryou' placed a kiss onto her lips. The Ryou watching blushed as the two started to remove their clothes. Closing his eyes he willed himself out of there.

“Ryou! Ryou!”

Someone was calling his name but who? Ryou opened his eyes to see a worried and scared Bakura staring down at him. How did he end up on the floor? He groaned and sat up.

“What happened?” he wondered out loud.

“Ryou you're okay,” Bakura said relived.

The tomb robber hugged Ryou fiercely. As Ryou's vision and other sense returned he noticed he was still naked and sitting up on the floor his shower. He squeaked and tried to cover himself up.

“Now I know you're okay,” Bakura said giving Ryou a small kiss on the nose.

He stood up and left Ryou to finish his shower. As he dressed he couldn't help but feel an odd emotion. Deciding once again to get rid of the extra anxiety he pulled out his notebook.

`I swear this is like drug, addicting. I really am dependent on this thing, how pathetic,' he thought as he started his new poem, “

Mistress: So how was it? Any good at all? Feedback would be nice, long review would be beter, lol. ^__^ Anyway I appreciate you guys hanging around and reading this story and reviewing.

(1)Poem, hope it was acceptable. One of my worst yet.
(2)This meant that the lake had a stone floor so that the water wouldn't seep into the ground.
(3)A midwife is someone who is trained in child birth and stuff like that. Back in the olden days they trained midwives all the time so yeah.
(4)I actually meditate like this whenever I can, although I do it within a sacred circle preferably. I've become very good at it too. I think it's called Grounding and centering when you do that. Anyway you can really hear a lot when you do that I certainly can.
(5)Now I'm taking a bit of Wicca when I put that prayer there, you could say those are the types of prayers that I do. Yeah in case you guys are wondering I am a witch and I practice Wicca.
(6)You know those tables at the back of the chairs.
