Arguments and music
After putting away the lead and climbing back through her window, conveniently located in the attic of the house, Glynn went to her wardrobe and looked for something to wear, mentally going through different combinations as her eyes skimmed over the clothes she had unpacked.
"Black, black, revealing, hell no, brown, denim, denim, black. . ." she muttered quietly, pausing every now and then to shudder at some of the clothes her adopted family had bought for her, eventually deciding on a black top with what looked like grey and red paint splattered over the front and a pair of dark denim jeans.
Missing the squeaky steps as she walked down her staircase and making as little noise as possible with her dark bamboo door hanger, she prayed to whatever gods may be listening that Evelyn and Scott were still asleep. Making it to and out of the bathroom without incident she made her way down the hall and towards the kitchen.
`Just a few more steps,' she thought as she entered the horribly coloured kitchen.
"Where were you this morning?" a feminine voice asked her as she entered the yellow and lime green hell.
Sighing inwardly she forced herself to turn around, surveying the tall brunette with a look of open loathing and noticing a dangerous flash in the girls hazel eyes.
"I took Rillith for a walk," Glynn answered, figuring that she might as well tell the truth as she didn't know how much her step sister knew.
"You always take walks at four am?" she asked with malice.
"Yes, as a matter of fact I do," Glynn snapped, realizing that if this continued for much longer she was going to miss the bus.
"Well, mother will be hearing about this," she said.
`Egotistical bitch!' Glynn thought in reply to this lovely remark, now she would have to deal with being questioned when she got home.
"Go ahead Brinn, I honestly couldn't care less," she answered instead, ensuring that she sounded totally indifferent.
Taken back by the sincerity in the girls voice, Brinn grabbed at what she thought would work, "I'll have that mutt taken off you,"
"And I guarantee that you're gonna break something trying," Glynn said cheerfully as she grabbed an apple from the large wooden fruit bowl on the counter and walked swiftly out of the back door without a backwards glance.
Glynn looked back once she was a good distance from the house and couldn't stop herself from laughing at the look of utter horror on her step sisters face. Since Glynn had moved in nine moths ago, Brinn had been on her case. She had soon realized, and with some satisfaction, that Brinn was scared of her, or Rillith, or both, and Glynn had done nothing to dispel this notion. She actually encouraged it and by now Brinn thought that Rillith was a wild, bloodthirsty beast and Glynn was psychotic and most likely dangerous. Recovering from her fit of giggles she continued on to the bus stop, occasionally lapsing into another fit of laughter at the memory of that incident and others that classified her as insane in Brinn's mind. Laughing particularly hard at one where she had talked about a people-to-kill-sooner-than-others list while Brinn had thought her asleep, remembering to add her name to the top.
Climbing into the crowded buss she searched for a seat by herself and finding one she sat down, grateful that Brinn didn't take the bus. After a little searching she found her iPod and flicking to her favorite CD she closed her eyes and tried to block out the noise of the bus. She didn't notice the white haired kid, or even that the bus had stopped until a tap on the shoulder broke her out of her meditative state.
"You mind if I sit here?" the boy asked in a British accent.
"Go ahead," Glynn replied, turning down the volume and sitting up a little straighter in the uncomfortable chair.
"Everywhere else is full," he said as he sat down, "I'm Ryou."
"Glynn."
"You new aren't you," Ryou asked cheerfully.
"Yeah, I just moved here from Australia," Glynn replied, "You not afraid of me are
you?"
"No, should I be?" Ryou asked.
"I guess not, it's just that most people are."
"Why? Cause of your clothes? Or your withdrawniness?" he asked, "Trust me, I've been around worse."
"Fair enough, is that even a word?" Glynn asked.
"It is now. What was it like in Australia?"
"It was a lot warmer than it is here, we lived near the ocean, had a great view," she said.
She lapsed into silence and Ryou, uncertain of what to make of this moved onto a topic
that was easily available.
"Have you met anybody else?"
"No-one my own age," she replied and seeing the confusion in his chocolate brown eyes added, "I ran into this kid at the park this morning."
Ryou, finding that he had the black haired girl talking again asked what she was listening to.
"Evanescence," Glynn replied without needing to check, she knew the entire CD back to front as well as the running times, lyrics, names and composers of each song. What else can you say; she had way too much free time.
"Favorite songs?" he asked.
"Hello and Whispers," she replied.
"Not so fond of Hello, I prefer My Last Breath." He said.
"Not a bad song either, what else do you listen to?" Glynn asked.
"Most punk and soft rock," he replied.
Glynn was shocked, she had managed to find someone with the same basic taste in music as her and she had thought it was impossible, mainly because it was so screwed up.
"Holy crap, me too, add Linkin Park to that and you basically have my CD collection."
Ryou shuddered and said that it was too loud for him.
"Well, close enough to my screwed up tastes," Glynn said happily, "you want a headphone?"
"Yeah, why not," Ryou said, fiddling with it until the black earbud headphone stayed put.
They spent the rest of the bus ride talking about the different bands and songs that they liked, both surprised to find the similarities between their favorites and glad to have someone to complain about Techno music too.
As they got off the bus Ryou asked Glynn if she knew where she was going. Glynn, realizing that she had left the house too quickly to pick up her map that morning muttered an embarrassed `no' while constantly being amazed at the ease with which she talked to the near albino. He offered to show her around as they were in the same grade and with a laugh they both set off towards Homeroom.
