Last Time:
She came down the final steps and stepped cautiously into the doorway. It was so small; she nearly had to duck. The first thing she noticed was that it was cold. The second thing she saw there both shocked and amazed her.
---------------
It was a room. A beautiful room. With food. Food galore. Fruits, vegetables, and bread covered the tables. Her mouth watered at the sight. In the middle of the room, there was a table with three chairs, set for two. She frowned. `Is this what Bakura meant?'
There was also a bed in the corner. It wasn't just any bed; however, it was a double bed, fit for a king. Kesi had no doubt in her mind that this was a tomb. She cautiously walked over to the food, making sure to brace herself before taking another step. Tombs often had traps in them, especially those of higher-class. She didn't want any missed trap to appear on her all at once.
Kesi sniffed the food, and after careful inspection, she took a tiny bite. It was.. fresh? She took another bite of the bread, and then hungrily devoured it all. She smiled. This was excellent. She glanced at the bed, and then wandered over to it, plopping herself down, not bothering to turn down the sheets. She slept.
-----
When she awoke, Bakura was sitting at the table, hungrily consuming a chicken leg. Kesi got up and yawned. Bakura noticed her, and frowned. "What the hell are you doing on my bed?"
"Your bed?"
"Yes, my bed."
"Sleeping."
"Get me more food."
"Get it yourself. You can walk now."
He scowled. "I can, but you are going to get me food anyway. And you are going to get me food now."
Kesi sighed and walked over to the table, grabbing a loaf of bread and handing it to Bakura. It wasn't that big a deal for her, she had been raised as a servant and a cook, so serving people was basically her life. She sat down at the table next to Bakura and looked at him. He looked up, bread sticking out of his mouth. Kesi rolled her eyes, and he swallowed.
"What do you want?"
"Answers."
"You won't get answers if you don't ask questions." He said, attacking the bread again.
"Okay.. First, what is this place?"
"A tomb."
"Why does it have food?"
"Because I put it there."
Kesi sighed. "Can I at least have a straight answer?"
"That's what I gave you."
It took all of her energy and mentality not to tackle him and attempt to repeatedly slam the thief's head into the hard floor. "Why is the food not rotten?"
"Dunno." He said in between mouthfuls.
"Bakura!"
He smirked and swallowed. "Yes?"
"Tell me why the food isn't rotten."
"... No..."
"BAKURA!" Kesi exploded and stood up suddenly, knocking the chair down to the floor.
"Hmm?" he said; his attention now turned to an apple.
Kesi walked over to the bed and threw herself on it. "When can I leave?"
"When I leave."
"When are you leaving?"
"When I feel like it."
"So, I can leave when you feel like it?"
Bakura shrugged and tossed the apple core to the ground. "That's what I said, right?"
He walked up the stairs and when he was out of sight and hearing range, Kesi grabbed the nearest thing - a glass cup, and whipped it as hard as she could at the wall. It shattered; millions of fragments raining down on the ground. Kesi kneeled on the bed, breathing heavily. She closed her eyes and listened to her breathing, an attempt to calm her anger.
Then the oddest thing happened. She opened her eyes and something looked different. The glass and apple core were gone. Kesi frowned and walked over to where the glass fragments were, well aware if they were just temporarily invisible that they might come back. They didn't come back.
"He's got it.. Take it from him!" Almost a whisper, that voice echoed inside her head.
Not in the room. She stopped and shook her head. Kesi felt a chill run up her back. That did it. She bolted up the stairs as fast as she could go. Arriving at the top, she saw Bakura looking around in two crates. Objects lay around him, such as random jewelry articles and clothes, mainly. Some gold coins were piled up in the corner; a small velvet bag lay next to them.
Without looking up, Bakura spoke, "What's with you? I thought you were going to sleep?"
"I-uh, couldn't go to sleep." Kesi replied, her eyes still on the coins.
Bakura shrugged, and then added, "Don't even think about it. I know all the tricks and more."
"I wasn't-"
"This is how real nobles live." Bakura looked at her and smirked, his sharp, almost canine-like teeth showing.
"I wouldn't know." Kesi said, eyeing the beautiful silks and clothes.
Her eyes fell on something else - the bandage around Bakura's stomach, just visible underneath the shirt he wore. She saw blood start to seep through it at his movement, and she didn't think that it had even started to heal.
"Hey, um.. Bakura?"
"What?"
"You're bleeding again."
Bakura looked down, and what he saw there confirmed her statement. Dark crusted blood was on the edges of the bandages and the white cloth was colored dark red. "So I am."
Kesi knelt beside him. "You really shouldn't move. After I put the bandages on, you need to go to sleep."
"But I'm not tired."
"You haven't had any sleep all day or last night."
"Hn."
"Take off your shirt and I'll change your bandages."
Bakura glared at her, but did as he was told. Kesi got the rest of the bandages and started unwrapping his wound. It was surprisingly healed mostly; the blood had deceived the actual healing process. Kesi wet a cloth and started cleaning.
