Last Time:
Bakura smacked Marik over the head. "She is not my girl."
Marik smirked. "Then why can't I - " He was cut off by a glare from Bakura.
Kesi shrunk back. `Okay.. I thought Bakura was sadistic enough..' Bakura stormed inside and Marik glared after him. "Fine. Come in already." He said to Kesi, and walked inside. Kesi followed him, and shut the door behind her.
---------------
The house wasn't warm-hearted, really. Kesi didn't expect it to be. It was more of a storage space. Gold coins, expensive fabrics, and jewelry covered the floor and the walls. No one was in the first room, so Kesi walked through the cloth door and ended up in the makeshift kitchen. A table was in the middle of the room, stools sat around it.
A further investigation took her to the next room, where Marik and Bakura sat on an expensive-looking couch. Kesi dubbed this room as the `living room', eyeing the luxurious chairs and tables. It didn't take a genius to figure out that they hadn't been bought.
"So, you still have that necklace Bakura gave you?" Marik said, popping another grape in his mouth.
"..Um.. Yes.."
Marik sighed. "Sit down, will you? I'm not going to kill you."
Kesi complied and sat down on a small chair, across from the both of them. A few seconds of awkward silence passed and then Kesi, unable to stand it, asked, "Why did you give me this necklace?"
Marik's grin matched the Cheshire cat's. "Bakura?" he asked, emphasizing each syllable.
"What?"
"Why did you give Kesi that necklace?"
If looks could kill, Marik would have been dead ten times over. "Because.. I.. didn't want it anymore."
"Bull-"
Marik was cut off by Bakura standing up suddenly; so fast that his chair fell backwards. "I said I didn't want it anymore!"
Bakura stormed outside, slamming the fragile door shut so hard that it was a miracle that it didn't fall over. Marik acted as if nothing had happened, and calmly took another grape. Kesi bit her lip, feeling awkward now, and out of place.
"Don't worry about him." Marik said suddenly.
Kesi looked up. "Huh?"
"Don't worry about him." Marik repeated, and shook his head. "He's.. stubborn."
Kesi looked up. "What?"
"..Go talk to him."
Kesi narrowed her eyes. "Why?"
"Because you want to."
"I don't-"
"Just go."
Kesi shot him a wierd look, but then obeyed and walked outside. Sure enough, Bakura was there, along with an extremely big sunset. Reds, purples, blues, and oranges swirled around in the sky. She slid the door shut and turned towards him.
She bit her lip and looked down. `I can't do this.' She went to turn around to go back inside, but Bakura spoke just then. "Why are you out here?"
"..I needed fresh air.."
"…"
"It's pretty, isn't it?"
"..What?"
"The sunset is pretty." She repeated.
"Yeah.."
Kesi didn't say anything and walked up behind him, standing a foot away. Bakura looked up. "Sit down if you want to."
She kneeled down, placing her hands by her sides in the warm sand, now slightly cooler than it had been in the day. The Egyptian sun was almost hidden by the flat horizon. Kesi glanced over at Bakura, and then down at her necklace.
"Where did you get this necklace, anyway..?"
"Some sort of tomb."
"You don't know who's it was?"
"Yami's only daughter's."
She reached one hand up, resting it on the necklace. "Do you know her name..?"
"No. Why would I?"
"Why do you rob tombs?"
"To survive." He replied shortly.
"So you take other people's things to survive?"
"They don't need them anymore. They're dead."
"What about in the next life?"
"…" There was no response.
She sighed. "If you don't want to talk to me, just say so."
The sunset had died to a dark blue, and Kesi could barely make out Bakura's shadow silhouetted against the sky. "It's not that."
She looked down. "Is it me?"
"No." came the immediate response.
"Then what is it?"
"I'm just tired." He stood, and motioned for her to follow him. "You have to sleep on the floor."
"That's fine."
"There's only two beds."
"Okay."
Nothing more was said. Marik had already retreated to his room, and Bakura stood at the doorway of his room, watching with an amused smile as Kesi tried to make herself comfortable on a two-person couch. Although she was about half a foot shorter than he was, she still didn't fit on the small two-seater couch.
Finally she sighed, and closed her eyes, apparently not noticing him standing there. With all the skills as a thief he possessed, he slithered quietly over to where she lay. Her breathing had regulated, signifying she was asleep. Then he noticed something else.
Her hands were curled up to her chest, and she had curled into a fetal position. She was shivering. He sighed and shook his head. `Dammit.. Why is this happening to me?' He sighed again, and reluctantly slipped an arm under her legs and back, cradling her against his chest.
Bakura blushed uncharacteristically when she snuggled into his chest, mumbling something incoherent. Oh well. At least she had stopped shivering. He walked into the small bedroom, and dumped her on the bed, careful not to wake her up.
As soon as he let go of her, she curled up again and started shivering. He sighed, and pushed her over to the other side of the huge bed that took up most of the bedroom. He slid in the other side, and she stopped shivering. He rolled his eyes. `Wierd.' Bakura turned over, facing the wall, and drifted into the welcoming arms of sleep.
