Rome, Italy
The young black haired man was observing a group of girls as the blonde native chattered away with him. The man, who had just turned seventeen, had always been more interested in what Sophia looked like than what she said.
“This piece of what was once the Coliseum has been restored to its original BLAH BLAH BLAH…” He grinned at one particular dark eyed beauty that was waving at him. She had her left hand wrapped up in a hot pink scarf, even though it was hot outside. Sophie stopped the light blue convertible on the side of the road, near the young woman. A sudden gust of wind tossed the man's long, wild black hair.
Sophia turned to say something to him, but instead screamed. Two shots fired…
“Mokuba!” screamed Kaiba, sitting bolt upright in his bed. The brunette woman next to him sighed in her sleep and rolled over, dragging the sheets with her. His breathing slowed, his pulse calmed. Getting up out of bed, he dressed, and made his way towards the door. The girl giggled in her sleep. Groupies.
The rain had slowed to the faintest drizzle, but cars still slammed through pools of water, drenching the sidewalk and any unfortunates walking near the road. Fortunately for Kaiba, he never took the walk he was planning.
*BEEDLE BEEDLE BEEDLE* rang his cellphone. Of all the fucking times for- “Kaiba.”
“Kaiba, it's me, Kikas.”
“What do you want?”
Her voice was tense and low. “I think… actually I know… that someone is following me.”
He was instantly alert. So someone is after her after all. I wonder what the real reason that the Hunters are after her. So far that I know, they only were interested in the Sennen Items, taking over the world, and rare cards. But she doesn't fit any of these descriptions. “Where are you?”
“The train. I couldn't sleep… and I was returning from the home of a friend I know in Domino.”
“Who's following you?”
“Two gentlemen. One I recognize… from a photograph I once saw, but the other is a stranger to me. Both are wearing all black.”
“How long?”
She calculated it in her head. “Ten minutes. But I wasn't confirmed until they got on the train with me. Hang on,” she said. The line was silent for a minute.
“Kikas?”
“Yeah, they're following me. They got off at the same exit I did.
“Where are you now?” he asked, getting on his motorcycle.
“Second Street. I'm heading for the East Pier; there's a ride waiting for me there.” There was panic in her voice.
“I'll be there. Twenty minutes,” he said, trying to assure her.
“And if you don't make it on time?”
“Don't call the police. I'll be there. I'm not planning on keeping any speed limits tonight.”
It was obvious that Miss Kikas wasn't too familiar with the layout of Domino. East Pier, or East Dock as it was called by the locals, was the darkest part of the city. Actually located in West Domino, it was where streetlights had long been shot out by the gunfights that erupted there.
So it was easy for Kaiba to feel just a bit nervous about this plan. If there was one thing he couldn't stand, it was a Rare Hunter.

She was panting hard, breaking into a run whenever possible. There was broken glass on the street; she stepped on it and screamed in pain as it cut through her shoes and imbedded itself in her feet. Tearing her heels off, she left bloody footprints on the asphalt. Easy to follow for the men who seemed to float after her, always a few paces behind.
It was like she had forgotten everything she had ever learned. Panic was not an emotion that she had experienced since the day her parents died. Even then, it was panic brought on by the memories that had flooded back to her- not because of actual danger.
Never, she thought. Never have I been afraid like this. But I've never been on this end of the Hunter food chain before. Damn it! She thought as she twisted her ankle and fell into the gutter. This just keeps getting worse- wait! What the hell is-
A scream floated through the breeze and faded away.

Kaiba knew he'd be there too late. Should have got it in writing. Should have taken over her company in case she was ever killed. But she's dead by now. The Rare Hunters never miss their mark. Good leadership or something. I should know. Assassins are always assassins…
East dock was deserted. The ride Lilly had been hoping for was nowhere to be seen. Figures. Let's just hope there is enough of her to identify.
He cut the motor; walking by abandoned warehouses, his steps were the only audible noises on the dock, besides the sloshing of the dirty ocean on the pier.
There was only one alley left when he picked up signs of a struggle- bloody footprints, strands of dark green hair, splashes of red on the pavement.
Pieces… he thought when he saw her. Put up a good fight for a woman. Took down one of those fellows before they killed her. The black form of the dead Hunter was near the mouth of the alley. By the number of remaining footprints, Kaiba figured that there had been two other men there to kill her.
I wonder what they wanted. Who hires an ex-evil organization to murder a woman? He leaned down over Kikas' corpse. There were bruises around her neck. That necklace. The Egyptian one. Was she wearing it?
He leaned closer… and gasped.
