Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ The Dragoness ❯ Misunderstanding ( Chapter 5 )

BAM BAM BAM pounded Lilly on the punching bag. She had been at it for two weeks now, shirking work and even eating to spend all hours of the night and day training in the weight room in the basement.
Kaiba had been surprised by three things: One, that there was a weight room in the basement. It must have belonged to Gozaburo, although he had never heard of him using it. And the acoustics were so terrible in the room that each punch and pound reverberated throughout the basement and the whole first floor, making for an irritable servant crew.
Second, that she was so dedicated to a foolish thing such as training. She's not a strong woman, and only of average height. What does she think she's going to do? Take on the Rare Hunters single handed? The woman was becoming more and more of an enigma to him, when women were usually so easily read.
Third, that she had handed Kikas International over to him without a fuss during this time period. Not only did he have the reins, but he had two companies to run and not enough time to sort through her records, which were written in a language that he did not understand.
So when he came home at noon one day, frustrated, the first thing he heard was that THUMP THUMP BAM coming from the basement. He walked down the stairs, preparing himself to confront the confounded woman who was driving his household crazy.
The basement door was a damp, unused place in the four story Kaiba Mansion. So it wasn't too hard to find the room because it was the only one with a light on. A single bulb lit up the musty room. The door was ajar, so Kaiba watched for a moment. She's gotten good, he thought, mildly surprised because she hadn't been doing this for too long.
“Having fun?” he said dryly.
“You know it,” she said with a wicked grin. Sweat was pouring down her face, but she didn't even pause to wipe it.
“Did you forget?”
“Forget what?” she said.
“That you have a company to run.”
She smiled. “But Mr. Kaiba, that's your department now. I signed the damn papers.” Kaiba scowled.
“Company or no company, you still have obligations.”
“Like what?” she said as he threw a towel at her.
“We have a meeting this afternoon. As joint presidents of Kaiba Corp and Kikas International.” She looked up, intrigued.
“An inquest?”
“Apparently the JBC think there are some shady dealings between us. Like staking a monopoly on Japanese-American computer dealings.”
“The Japanese Bureau of Commerce would think that, wouldn't they. But since they were founded two years ago, they haven't brought anyone down for it.” But she looked vaguely concerned.
“Apparently they have a strong case against us. Or that's what my insider says.” Lilly chewed on her lip in thought. Bad habit.
“I'll be there Kaiba. Just let me go shower and dress.”
He smiled, feeling that he had won. “And put a bandage on that cut on your right fist. I don't want people thinking I beat you.”
Kaiba walked out. Lilly stood, confused. “Beat me? What the hell does that mean?”
“Good afternoon gentlemen,” said Lillian smoothly. She was wearing a dark pink suit with a lily of the valley pinned on the lapel. Go figure.
“Good afternoon Ms. Kikas. Good afternoon Mr. Kaiba.” The meeting was taking place in Kaiba Tower, in the large oak paneled conference room on Kaiba's top floor.
And it dragged. The six gentlemen spoke for over two hours, stating the cases against Kaiba and Kikas six different ways. Lilly stared out the window. Kaiba stared at a crude painting of a sailboat in the Greek harbor. It was Mokuba's, painted on his first year of travel. He had insisted on sending it to Kaiba in Japan, despite the fact that the Postal System tried to reject the package as too big.
Both snapped back to at the same time. “Mr. Kaiba, do you have any words in your defense?”
This was where Kaiba played his ace of spades. And almost got his head bitten off by Lilly. Fortunately, she kept rather good composure. “I do, gentlemen. The whole matter is so simple it's rather childish to be having this meeting. I only let you go on because you are such elegant orators, and I was curious at the crimes me and my wife were being accused of.”
Seven jaws dropped, including “the wife.” She's going to kill me…she's really going to kill me… I just hope she keeps her cool until we get out of this…
Lilly turned out to be a very good actress. “Seto, darling, I thought we weren't going to tell anyone that just yet!” She took his hand lovingly, and nearly broke all the bones in it. Kaiba grimaced.
“I know, dear,” he choked out the term. He could actually feel her eyes burning a hole in the back of his head.
The committee was flustered. It had to be genuine. If it was fake, there was no way that Seto Kaiba would ever say “dear.” “We're so sorry Mr. and Mrs. Kaiba.” She smiled carefully.
“Don't worry gentlemen.”
Two of the men were alerted of the falsehood when they noticed that neither had wedding rings on. But it was too late, the meeting was over, and the “Kaibas” names were cleared. But this didn't stop them from squinting murderously at the two cool liars.
Funny, Lilly was giving Kaiba the same look as they left.
The door shut. “WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE'RE MARRIED!” she exploded. Kaiba pretended to cover his ears at the decibel level.
“Careful woman. You'll make my ears bleed.”
“That's not all I'm going to make bleed.” Kaiba's eyes crossed as they tried to focus on the object at his throat. It was a thin knife with a ivory handle, inset with a emerald.
“Come on, no need to get violent,” tried Kaiba. The door opened abruptly. Saved by the door. He pulled her into a kiss.
She struggled for a second, then melted. Oblivious to the reason why he was doing this, her lips reluctantly allowed access for his tongue. The door shut, and both pulled away.
Forgetting herself, Lilly sighed. Kaiba spat. “Remind me to never do that again.”
She recovered. “Don't worry, it won't happen again,” she countered, staring darkly. “But now that you've dug us into a bigger hole than losing our companies, what do we do?”
“We get married,” he said with a leer. She wound up and punched him.
