Yugi woke slowly, in aching stages. It was a pleasant 'ohh, I knew that extra thrust was too much' and 'ouch, I pulled too hard on that' aching.

He felt that tiredness you get when you've slept too long and refused to wake when your body wanted to wake.

There was a simple explanation for this. Yami.

Every time Yugi had woken up during the day he hadn't been able to move.

The dark vampire slayer had shut all the windows and closed all the blinds, and, even though the house was completely black throughout the day, Yugi couldn't move five inches in any direction without coming across a Yami wall.

The problem was that, there simply wasn't enough room. And Yami hadn't even stirred once when Yugi had shook him in attempts to stretch his aching legs, or wake and get some food. If it weren't for Yami sleeping like a vampire, which Yugi was beginning to think the Egyptian *was*, he would have been able to move about the house.

But, Yami unfortunately hadn't woken. And Yugi was stuck in the cupboard with the taller blocking his way out.

But this time when Yugi woke, he was able let one leg slip out of the tiny space. This wonderful relief caused him to wake quicker and roll out of the cupboard.

"Finally!" He murmured, half asleep still.

Yami groaned next to him. "Jeez, did we sleep the whole day?" The taller asked. He sounded… pained.

Yugi was pleased at that.

Yugi peaked open an eye, seeing Yami similarly spread out on his back a few centimeters away, fingers flexing slowly. The slayer looked like he had a headache, frowning softly.

Yugi giggled, he was feeling fine, aside from his muscles aching horribly, but that was slowly floating away. There was only a small part in the windows, and outside the waning moon shone down on the carpet in the lounge room. Yugi sighed, sitting gingerly. Several muscles didn't like this. Mainly his ass.

"It was your fault. I keep waking up all cramped, told you the cupboard was too small, and you sleep like the dead, did you know that?" Yugi sniffed, stretching his arms above his head, several bones popping joyfully. He cracked his neck, feeling the relief vibrate down his spine.

Yami groaned more. "Jeez, could you be any less perky?" The Egyptian rolled onto one side, getting on all fours gradually.

Yugi rose an eyebrow. "I'm not exactly perky. It's your own fault you've got a headache. Sleeping too much is bad for you."

It took a minute and several tries to get them both standing.

"What time is it?" Yami growled out, leaning butt naked against a sofa, his eyes glowed slightly in the dark, well; Yugi figured that was just the moonlight.

"Ummm… almost eight." Yugi said, glancing at the digital clock in the kitchen. Yami groaned and muttered something that sounded suspiciously like 'too early to be human' before grumbling loud enough for Yugi to hear properly. "Shower."

Yugi blinked. "The bath is better at night. Besides, my muscles need soaking. Jeez, you're like a rabbit in heat." He rubbed his ass cheek softly, wincing slightly.

Yami grunted again, turning and marching up the stairs toward the bathroom. Yugi walked lethargically behind the darker boy. Chuckling. Sooo, Yami was only human at ungodly hours of night, he didn't wake during the day and…

Yugi frowned softly. "Yami?" his mind rushed as tidbits of information that accumulated through his life brought themselves to the surface. And the unusualness that was Yami fitted into those tidbits easily. Too easily.

"Uhn?" Came the grunt.

"Are you a vampire?" Yugi asked, almost laughing at the idea.

Yami just froze.

His whole body stopped moving, pale legs stationary on the stairs, arms mid motion.

It wasn't like the tension that would run up a normal person's back when asked if they were cheating on you.

Not the sudden alertness of a Clanne.

Not a gradual stillness that your muscles could make, just, stopped.

It was the stillness of death.

The stillness no living being could echo so completely.

Yugi knew without even hearing the next words what the answer was. For some strange reason he felt a flush of fear, a flush of anger, a rush of pain and a stab of something unknown. All mixed into a harsh, sharp deadly blade that cut…

Straight.

Through.

His.

Chest.

"… Hai…"

That familiar body, those deep plum eyes, twisted. Meeting his own in surprise.

The ache in Yugi's chest thumped, walloping into his skin; as if it should have been a physical or even metaphysical blow, but it wasn't either. It was emotional.

The world was suddenly made up of rushing blood and screaming, Yugi saw alarm flash in Yami's eyes, before he fainted.

His last thought was ironic; fainting in the middle of the stairs was going to seriously hurt. And then even his thoughts were blackness.

~

The blank whiteness that your mind seems to find fascinating, especially when you're not paying attention to consciousness, receded. And the first drop of consciousness was that smug little voice in the back of his head. 'I told you fainting in the middle of the stairs was going to really cane.'

And boy; did it fucking HURT.

Like a migraine on steroids with a rocket launcher. He had a moment where the initial pain was delayed, in which he stated very clearly, "itai." and then the waves hit like a continuous bash after bash of a tsunami all inside his head.

"Yugi! Yugi-kun, can you hear me? Are you okay? Yugi-kun, answer me! Oh Ra, hold on! The ambulance is coming! Yugi-kun, talk to me!"

He couldn't pry his eyes open, it hurt so much. The nice whiteness was suddenly very red as blood rushed around his skull and nice painful colors decorated his sight. "… ahh… fucking… vam-p…" He whimpered, High ones, his head hurt, he wasn't even sure he was forming words. It really, really, really, really hurt.

"Yugi-kun, little one, hold on, help is coming, please don't die…"

He would have said 'it hurts too much to die' but a spasm ripped through him. Crap, he might have brain damage. That was always fun with a capital FUCK.

There were a few confused moments, in which he could feel something cold and wet hitting his cheeks, recognizing the wet stuff as tears and a sobbing sound as crying, and hell, Yami was crying.

How sweet.

Was Yugi's slowly receding consciousness pissed that it hadn't realized that Yami was a vampire the first time his air conditioning did something weird? You bet'cha.

~

He'd never really had anything against blinding white lights. But it really, really hurt his sensitive eyes. Yugi groaned raggedly, his throat hurt, and he felt that cold crispness that hospitals have.

Hospitals were inconsiderate with their blinding white lights.

"Yugi-kun?" A soft voice asked, hoarse as if it had been crying for a while or shouting.

Yugi groaned again. He had a headache. This was better than a migraine, or red flashes of pain. He felt an urge to giggle. "What kind of drugs am I on?" he asked thickly.

A hysterical sob met his words and cool arms hugged him. More sobbing.

The sobbing was a little excessive. "Shut the fuck up with the water works and tell me what I'm on." He wondered if the rude language was a result of the drugs. He usually wasn't quite so vocally mad.

Well, he wasn't mad, he felt like giggling actually.

This wasn't right. Was this shock? Or dreaded brain damage?

'stairs ouchy' said the sarcastic little voice in the back of his head.

Nope. He was fine.

"Wow, I'm perfectly okay. Mm, that's good to know. Now, sight. Return should be fine, SOMEONE GET THE FUCKING WHITE LIGHT OUT OF MY FACE!" He said. Okay, maybe he yelled.

Drugs were bad, especially to those with low tolerances. "Eh, Yugi-kun? Are you alright?"

"If I'm in the hospital, obviously I'm bad enough to not work. Well, actually I'm fine and good. Just, who the hell gave me drugs? I mean, I don't react well with strong pain killers. Nothing a tablet can't kill. Ohh, I have a needle in my arm." Right, he was mindlessly babbling.

Great.

What would Yami say when Yugi had control over his own mouth again?

Yugi's memory kicked into life, it actually hurt a little and he winced. "Ow. Oi! You fucking vampire! Lying mother fucking son of a bitch, fucking bastard, I'm gonna rip you're fucking arms off and feed them to you!" He whispered harshly for some reason, one hand rising in an effort to claw the arms that hugged him the idea of thought was slowly starting to hurt. He drew blood and Yami gasped, backing away.

It was the most he had ever sworn in his life, and as pain began to flood back into his mind, the painkillers obviously wearing off, he blushed. "Oh Kami-sama, what on earth did they give me? My recorders expressly state that strong painkillers make me become violent!" He blushed deeper, rolling his head to the side he thought Yami was on. "Could you turn the light off please? My eyes hurt and ohh, the pain's coming back. I'm sorry, I'm very sorry, I just relax and I get angry at weird things."

The blinding light disappeared to an evening glow. Yugi sighed and opened his eyes. The room was white and sterile and he was hocked up to three I.V drips. A bandage was blocking one of his eyes getting full view and he had blood on his fingers from where he had scored Yami's arm. The vampire s-

vampire, Yugi corrected himself, was staring at him with slightly astonished plum eyes.

Again, Yugi felt the dagger twisting in his chest. Emotional ache.

He couldn't tell why his chest ached; all he could tell was that he wanted to be as far away from the creature as possible. Yugi frowned deeply, sitting up in the bed. It was still nighttime. At least he thought it was.

His head swam and he felt groggy again, realizing that one of the I.V drips was administering the drugs. He couldn't tell which one, so he just pulled them all out.

Yami startled. "Yugi-kun, what are you-"

"I have things I have to do, Mr. Yami. Goodbye." He replied coolly. His chest thundered in pain, and he unconsciously reached up and gripped his chest. Why was this emotion hurting so much?

"Yugi-kun… you- you shouldn't be moving around so much. You just fell down six stairs for god's sake!" Yami blinked, not quite understanding what was wrong.

Yugi shock his head with a soft laugh. It was odd that the doctors hadn't shown up… usually medical staff panicked when patients flat lined. "I think you're the one who doesn't understand Mr. Yami. I don't have time to play with vampires who think they can get my blood. While I pretend that you're a normal creature, you're busy killing innocents." He stood, half naked and bare foot. He was wearing a pair of white hospital pants. He kept his voice unwavering and cold. Yay!

Nuts, said the little voice in Yugi's head, do we have to-? Yugi mentally kicked the voice in the groin and ignored the groan in his head.

He walked toward Yami who was next to the only exit; there were no windows in the room. Yami was blinking. "What the hell are you talking about Yugi-kun, why are you being so… polite?" Yami used the word like a bad thing.

Yugi laughed bitterly, it hurt quite a lot to do it emotionally and mentally.

"Oh, I AM sorry, Mr. Yami. I know that most of your kind likes it when mortals are polite. It makes you hesitate in that crucial moment. It's also my way of distancing you from me. You see, and I know you can tell I'm not lying, you've actually hurt my feelings, you somehow seem to have slipped under my defenses and struck a nerve in fucking me."

He shrugged. "Gomen ne, I'm still a little woozy from the drugs I've got in my system."

Violet eyes narrowed sharply. "Did you keep my occupied all night because the vampires were doing something? If it affects the hi-"

His words were cut off as Yami kissed him viciously, grabbing both his hands and holding them in one. Yugi struggled painfully, head pounding as he kicked and bit, attempting to get away from those all too familiar lips.

Yami pulled back, bottom lip bleeding from Yugi's violent thrashing. "Shut up! Just shut up! Stop saying those things!" He hissed. Yugi could see tears in the vampire's eyes.

It was very shocking.

Why was Yami so upset?

Yami squeezed Yugi's hands together. Pushing the boy back.

"Do you have any idea what you're doing? You fell down the fucking stairs like dead weight! I couldn't find a pulse! You're phone doesn't work! And all of a sudden you're telling me you're afraid of me and you want to leave!" He pushed Yugi back further, shoving the boy back onto the bed non-to-gently.

Yugi whimpered as he struggled against Yami, his wrists were being crushed against his body practically. He hadn't exactly told Yami he was afraid of him, but it was pretty obvious.

"You just think your body can handle everything you put it through!? You think you can take a pack of 500 year old priests on, you think you can handle a whole night of being to my whim, and you think you can fall down the stairs gaining a concussion and walk out of a this room with a migraine pounding away and into a place where none of them know you and would fight you in an instant?" There was serious fire in the Egyptian's eyes.

Yugi's brain did a double take. "Priests? ... Where the hell am I?" He thrashed about more, struggling with all his strength.

Yami growled dangerously and the sound made Yugi freeze. Violet eyes widened.

"No. I am not going to let you simply burn your body out, Yugi-kun. You have strong eyes and fast reflexes. But you are human. You heal at a human speed."

"Let go of me!"

Yugi glared, trying to thrash about as he was strapped down to the freaking bed. His head was pounding dangerously as he felt the struggle in his brain to keep thinking.

Yami's plum eyes turned to his own, and Yugi saw something unusual, like a swirling, he'd never seen such a thing before, was it....

"Sleep Yugi-kun." Yami's voice was sultry.

It made perfect sense to sleep; he was so tired after all.

Those drowning pools of plum were so good. Yami could keep him safe.

Everything would be fine.

Before his mind clicked out Yugi wondered just how old Yami really was.

No vampire in existence could roll him under.

Yami would have to be... ancient.

But it was all very fuzzy and warm, Yami's eyes so close, it would be okay to just sleep.

Yami would tell him when to wake up.

Blackness swallowed Yugi completely and the boy slumped.
