Chapter 4

~Somewhere in the Shadow Realm~

The room the two beauties were in was dark, damp and the perfect place to have a certain conversation. The blond sat on the right side of the table, crossing her legs with a grim look on her delicate features. The scarce light that was allowed to enter the room fell onto her face making her look more like and angel than a spirit. For 3,000 years she has been bringing hope and inspiration to the world but now the life of a young man hung in her decision. She was called many things, Yin, Mother Nature, but she preferred Ania.

"This is wrong," she proclaimed in a gentle yet stern voice. "He has done nothing wrong in all of his years of life. What right do we have to violate that innocence."

On her opposite side sat a brunette with such a look on her face that it could rival the devil himself. She glared at Ania, clearly stating the fact that she did not appreciate the fact that her other half was undermining her authority. Her features were sharp. Her pretty face made her seem as if she was a goddess. Yet looks could be deceiving. She was responsible for wars, famine, and all evil that leaked on the earth and planets alike. She wasn't evil. For all bad things come good. Ania needed her and she needed Ania. She too has been called many things. Yang, Devil lady, but she preferred Kea {1}.

"We need the boy to get his attention," she told Ania, trying to keep her voice calm"

"Then get a marching band of monkeys to march through their living room! We do not need to go to such extremes to get his attention," yelled the more "peaceful" of the two.

"Don't you understand!? We need to perform an unspeakable action onto the child. That's the only thing that will bring him to us!"

"That's not the only thing! He has banished countless people to the Shadow Realm just for looking at his hikari in the wrong way. We don't even need Ryou," Ania tried to be rational but the other spirit wouldn't hear it.

"Ryou is the only thing that will lead him to murder. He would be a great ally. We need all of them." Kea smiled evilly, obviously getting pleasure at the shear thought of the pain they will force onto the unsuspecting child.

"I sent him as vision, you know," Ania said sulking. Her polish accent was evident in her voice at this time of day.

"I know, but it's no worry. Bakura doesn't even believe him. It's actually quite sad to see the fact that he doesn't believe in the things to come," whispered Kea. If Ania didn't know her so well she would mistake that she actually felt bad for what she was doing.

"You're a bitch," he said as the tears finally found their way down the familiar path down her face.

"Thank you. Now lets get to work."

~The Ishtar residence~

Bakura's red car pulled into the driveway of his two Egyptian friends. He walked up the stairs, cringing at the sounds of pain that were becoming louder and louder as he edged closer to the door.

Hesitantly he knocked on the door. Footsteps rushed to the door and he was greeted by a crying Malik. He was forced into a bone-crushing hug against his will. "Malik get off me," he croaked.

Malik stepped back but continued to cry. "Bakura! He keeps yelling at me saying it's my fault his stupid hand is caught in the stupid drain (Thanks Kristina)"

For what seemed like the hundredth time today, Bakura sighed and wished that Ryou didn't have school today. "Okay, okay," he said in a soothing voice "Point me in the right direction and I'll handle everything."

Malik pointed up the stairs so Bakura assumed that Marik was in the bathroom, He hurried up the stairs and turned the corner to find the Egyptian leaning over the sink. Marik turned when he sensed the familiar darkness near him. He put on a smile and as cheerfully as he could he greeted his old friend. "Hi Bakura! How's it been? I hate to be bother to you but could GET MY HAND OUT OF HERE!"

Bakura smiled to himself and wondered if Ryou would enjoy being in his place right about now. 'Nah, he's in Algebra. I try my luck here,' He gracefully strode over to the fallen dark side. For a moment he did do anything but stare into Marik's velvet because he honestly didn't know how to get him out.

After about a minute Marik began to get a bit annoyed, "Are you gonna just stand there or are you gonna help me?"

Bakura sighed and took over his leather coat, which in fact belonged to Ryou's dad. He kneeled and took a hard look at the situation. Marik's hand was stuck all the way to his wrist, which was beginning to take an ugly shape of blue. He touched the swollen wrist tenderly but pulled his hand back when Marik hissed in pain. "That hurts," Bakura said stating the obvious.

Malik wasn't amused. "MY YAMI IS IN PAIN! NOW WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT!" he yelled. He seemed as if he would cry soon but it seemed that the tears wouldn't allow themselves to be abused any more than they have in the past few hours.

Taking his paternal role he moved from Marik's side and strolled over to Malik. He grabbed the hikari's arm with a firm, but gentle, grip and led him out of the room. "Malik, why don't you get to school? If you miss any more school days they'll send someone over here to instigate on Marik and your private lives. Trust me, everything will be okay."

Malik looked up into the taller boy's eyes and sniffed. He didn't completely trust Bakura but his Yami did. So if he was good enough for his Yami then he was good enough for him. He nodded his head in both agreement and defeat. Before he turned around to walk his merry way to school he asked Bakura a timid question, "Promise he'll be alright?"

Bakura did a weird half grin and half smirk before he answered Malik's question. "I swear on my own existence Marik will not end up with one hand," He jokingly promised with a bit of sincerity creeping into his voice. Malik accepted this and walked to school quickly, seeing that he was already late he decided he shouldn't give them a bigger excuse to suspend him for his regular tardiness and absences.

Bakura watched him until Malik turned the corner. After the frightened hikari was out of sight he ran up to the reason he was here. Marik was in the same position he was in when Bakura left him, but it wasn't as if he could change it. Bakura took out a rench from underneath the sink and began to disassemble the drain from itself. The last time Ryou's dad visited them, which was about two months ago, he decided that Bakura needed to learn some modern day necessities. He taught him how to fix stuff such as household appliances and heal bruises; since he was under the impression the Ryou was "accident-prone".

Marik had a glazed look on his face as he watched Bakura free his hand. Bakura looked at him and he gave a weak smile. "Are you okay?" Bakura asked a bit worried about his friend.

"I'm fine it's just…" Marik trailed off afraid to voice his opinion. Bakura caught this but decided to leave him alone. It was very rare to find Marik being quiet none the less thinking. Bakura continued to work on the sink until he eventually freed his fellow Dark's hand and hound Malik's earring. For a while they sat in silence but Marik finally broke the silence.

"Don't you feel… bad?" he asked cautiously but was received with nothing more than a blank stare and several blinks. "I mean… I have the feeling that something bad is going to happen but I don't know what or when it's gonna be." Marik hugged his knees and place his head against them. He felt it stronger last night but he didn't say anything to them. Bakura continued to anything and was debating with himself if he should say anything about Ryou's dream but decided against it. It wasn't any of Marik's business.

He suddenly got a brilliant idea. "You know… there is a way to find out what going to happen, what's happened, and what's happening."

Marik smiled as the realization hit. He shifted his position and sat on his knees anticipating what would happen. Bakura pulled out his dueling deck and shuffled it through. He pulled the top three cards out and placed them face down and placing the remaining cards in the deck aside. "Before we do this turn your mind link off,"

"Why?" asked Marik.

"Because if something really bad is going to happen our hikari's shouldn't be involved. Malik nearly had a heart attack just because your hand was stuck in a sink. Think how he'll react if he finds out that one of us could be in real danger," Bakura claimed as Malik nodded in agreement. "Shall we begin?"
Before getting an answer he flipped the duel card that represented the past.

He sighed as he realized this could be about him and Ryou. The card was Nimble Mononga {1}. Marik looked at him as he foretold that this could in fact be referring to Bakura's other half. "The Nimble Mononga represents how even though you can get rid of a horrible thing it can still come back to attack you," Marik said in creepy whisper. He never approved of the way Bakura used to treat Ryou. Aside from what Yami thought, Marik never laid a hand on his hikari. The bruises on Malik's wrists and thighs were from another physical contact, which they both enjoy by the way.

Trying to redeem some of his dignity Bakura flipped the card representing the present. He smirked at what it revealed "Change of Heart. It means that even the most gruesome creature can change for the better." He looked up at Marik who grace a similar smirk on his face.

They both reached for the future card at the same time. Marik won the battle of glares they shot at each other and flipped the card. He couldn't say anything at the sight. He looked up at Bakura face and saw how it turned a shape of pale green. "The Dark Hole."

{1} I'm not plagiarizing. If the name Kea seems familier then you probably read a fic by one of my best friends, Kristina. I wanted the character to have her image so I used her 'name'. And Ania… you're my other. (I know she'll bitch if I don't put that in.

{2} I really don't like that card so if you have any suggestions then could you please post them. But make sure they carry the same theme of something coming back and biting you in the ass! : ) However, I really don't want it to be the man-eater bug because it's a bit cliché.
