Chapter Six: Seto's unfinished business

"Yugi speaking."

"Yugi, I need to ask you something important!"

"Kaiba?" Yugi was surprised that Kaiba had called; Yami looked at Yugi with confusion.

"Yugi, is a girl called Sharlene Shin in town?"

"How do you know Sharlene? What do you want from her?" Yugi was a bit tense.

"So she is. Hey, listen, you wouldn't have duelled her already, have you?"

"No…not yet." Yugi didn't know what Kaiba was going on about.

"Good, I will be back in a week's time, tell her that to be prepared for me!"

Kaiba hung on the phone and walked to Mokuba who was sitting in front of the big computer. "How are the constructions going?" Kaiba asked.

"One more week, they'll be able to finish it before next Saturday! Look at that, Seto!" Mokuba moved his hands fast on the key board to show the finished parts of `Kaiba land for Orphans'. Kaiba had been working on it ever since they came to America.

"Mmm." Seto nodded, his lips curled up slightly.

"They will love it when it's finished, Seto." Mokuba said cheerfully.

"We are going back home next Saturday!" Seto said impersonally, his eyes were still nailed on the computer screen.

"But, why Seto? I thought you said we are going to stay in America for long!" Mokuba asked. "If you don't want to see Sharlene, you don't have to come with me." Still in a cold tone, Seto said, he turned to Mokuba, a smile fade away quickly from his face.

"Ah…Sharlene is there? But, how did you track her down?" Mokuba was eager to know what happened to Sharlene since last time she left.

"Well, she bought two duelling disk from Kaiba crop recently and I just called Yugi to confirm that she is where I think she is." Seto's eyes turned back to the computer screen. "Yugi?! Seto, do you think that she might already…"

"No, they haven't duelled yet. Don't worry! She is waiting for me to get her card back. I will get what I want in the end anyway. Now, go have some rest Mokuba."

"Ok, Seto don't stay too late." Mokuba walked out the control room, Seto stood in front of the computer, thinking.

"Hey, Seto, there is one more thing." Mokuba went back.

"What is it?"

"Can I buy Sharlene a gift?" Mokuba asked. Sharlene and he were good friends; although he didn't spend too much time together but Mokuba felt that she was like a sister to him.

"Mokuba, just go to my office and open the top drawer of my desk. Took the red box, it's for Sharlene." Seto said hastily and still looking at the computer screen.

"Ah?" Mokuba thought he heard that Seto said `It's for Sharlene.'

"Get the red box, it's for Sharlene." Seto repeated impatiently.

Mokuba stared at his brother in a strange way.

"I don't like owing people. Remember last time, she saved you from the car? You said she broke her bracelet; I just bought another one to repay her. That way I don't feel like I owe her!" Seto said frigidly.

"Ok, then." Mokuba shrugged his shoulder. "This great, Seto! I can't wait to see Sharlene again. We can hang out again." Mokuba walked out gladly.

Seto shook his head; a faint smile appeared on his face then quickly disappeared. He sat down in front of the computer and thought about the first time he met Sharlene. It was about a month ago…

"Mokuba, are you ok?" Seto heard that Mokuba was back, he rushed out from his office. "Yeah. Seto. I'm fine. Sharlene saved me from that car and we hang out for a bit." Mokuba pointed at he girl who was behind him.

Seto stared at her. She had a pair of purple sunglasses on; her dark purple hair was tied up. She wore a white strip less singlet, a pair of white shots and white sandals too. Seto also noticed that she had bandages around her right wrist.

Sharlene took off her sunglasses and grinned at Seto.

Seto's eyes touched hers, suddenly his head ached. `I know her!' A uncanny thought jumped into his mind out of the blue.

"Seto, this Sharlene Shin, she is a famous singer and my new friend; and Sharlene, this is my big brother Seto Kaiba." Mokuba introduced.

"It sure is a pleasure to meet you, Mr Kaiba." Sharlene nodded at him, she knew that Seto wouldn't want a hand shake.

"I thank you for saving my brother." Seto said coldly.

"I did what I supposed to do." Sharlene said in the same tone as he did, then she continued "I was looking for you anyway, and luckily I found your brother."

Seto looked at her scornfully. "What do you want?" He turned his back on her.

"You do have a well deserved reputation of being arrogant." Sharlene put her glasses back on. "I don't want to waste my time on some…"

"I don't want to waste my time, either. Kaiba! I want to duel you!" Sharlene snapped, she was determined to get what she wanted.

Seto laughed madly.

"Seto, Sharlene is a good duellist, I saw her duel just now, and she was awesome!" Mokuba interrupted. Seto glared at him and stared Sharlene again from with superiority.

`Who do you think you are? Seto Kaiba!' Sharlene was angry of his impoliteness. `How could he be so different from his brother? Just because he is taller? If I ever have a brother like him, I'd rather kill my self!' Sharlene rolled her eyes. Nobody had treated her like this ever since she was born! If Mokuba wasn't in the room right now, she probably would go and snap Seto, but she managed to keep her cool. "Kaiba, why don't you check your data base? You can find which rate of duellist I am!"

Mokuba looked at her and started his lap top.

"Are you saying that you were in the Battle city tournament? I didn't see you in the finals, did I?" Seto sniggered.

"Aww, I didn't know you are that kind of good, Sharlene!" Mokuba looked up at her, she grinned. Seto's face turned blue.

"Here you go, Seto, check it out! She is a five-star-duellist!" Seto look at the lap top and then he sniggered again.

"You must have hacked in my system. I never heard of you! Miss Shin." Said Seto.

"Whatever you say, I didn't have time to go to you tournament doesn't mean that I'm a bad duellist! Besides, I've got a card that may interest you…"

"I've got lots of rare cards; I didn't need you pathetic…"

"Have you ever heard of `The Phoenix of Shu'?" Sharlene held up a card.

Seto glance at it and then he stared at it again. `This can be!' Seto saw it was a GOD card! "Don't be surprised, it is a god card!" Sharlene smiled.

"I'm not a little kid, Sharlene. I know there were only three God cards in the whole wide world. That card may as well be a fake!" Seto said slowly.

"Fine, then how about this card? Kaiba. I'm sure you've heard about this card!" Sharlene pulled out another card from her deck. It was the `Silver winged dragon of Horus'. It was even more powerful than Kaiba's `Blue eyes'. It had attack strength of 3200 and defence points of 2850. Seto had been searching for that card for a long time, but he never thought that Sharlene had that card!

Seto stared at that card and said nothing. Sharlene pulled out two more cards from her deck. "Kaiba! I will use three of my `Silver winged' to duel for one of your `Blue eyes'!" Sharlene offered. She had got plans, once she won the card from Kaiba, he would immediately challenge her again, and it wouldn't be long till she got her hands on his cards.

"Deal! Let's go! Mokuba, grab two duelling disks, we are going to the top!" He grabbed his sun glasses and rushed to the elevator. Sharlene and Mokuba followed.

The roof of the building was made of glass. But it sure was a good place for a duelling arena. It was sunny day. The sky was endless blue, and so was the roof. It was boiling up there, even the breeze was scorching.

"I will be the Judge of the duel! Now you may begin!" Mokuba declared

"Are you ready?" Seto spoke; his voice was full of disdains.

"Are you?" Sharlene waved her left arm and activated her duelling disk.

"Ladies first." Seto said `politely'.

"Pleasure!" Sharlene drew a card. "I play `Witch of the black forest' in attack mode, and also put two cards face down. I end my turn!" Sharlene gave Seto a hard stare.

`What' she doing? Her monster was weak! Unless she's got something under her two face down cards!' Seto drew a card. `Crush Viruses! It may come handy. Too bad I don't have a card for it right now.' "I play battle Ox in attack mode and then I will also lay one card face down. Now, Battle Ox, attack her witch!" With a shriek, Sharlene's witch disappeared. And so were her 600 life points.

"An Ox? Is that what you got?" Sharlene drew two cards, Witch of black forest' special ability enabled her to draw another monster card which has a defence lower than 1500. "Now, I will summon my Harpie's brother in attack mode and before my Harpie slashes your Ox, I will activate my dust tornado to destroy your face down card!" Sharlene stared at Kaiba; he was a bit surprised that Sharlene had just destroyed his Crush Viruses!

"I drew!" Seto looked at his card. `Cyber jar! It came just in time! I need some new cards in my hand!' Seto played Cyber jar in defence mode. It was Sharlene's turn; she put one more card down on the field and ordered Harpie's brother to attack Seto's face down monster. "You activated Cyber jar's special ability, now…"

"We both have to draw five cards, and special summon the lower level monsters on the field. I know that! Kaiba" Sharlene snapped and drew five cards and then she put all five cards in face down position on the field. She could feel the cold stare beyond Seto's glasses. She chuckled. `I'll make you angry, Kaiba! To repay the way how you treated me!'

Looking at the cards in his hand, Seto curled up his lips. He put down one monster on the field and one card face down. "Too bad, Sharlene. This duel will be finished before you know it!" Seto sounded pretty confident.

Sharlene smiled. "Please! Make your move then."

"Now, it's time for you to meet my Blue eyes white dragon!" Seto put down Lord of dragon and The flute of summoning dragon to summon two of his Blue eyes. "Now, time to meet the third one." Seto sacrificed The lord of dragon and wall of illusion to summon his third dragon. "So, you scared yet? Wait till…"

"Blah, blah… Could you be more boring?" Sharlene snapped again.

"No one disrespect my Blue eyes!" Seto was furious; he ordered three of his blue eyes to attack Sharlene's three face down monsters.

"So is it my turn now?" Sharlene sounded bored, she was happy that she made Kaiba lost his focus. "Not yet! Now I will use my polymerization card to fuse my Blue eyes into Blue eyes ultimate dragon! You will be finish in two turns!"

"Wow, that's so scary!" Sharlene mocked. That made Seto even madder. Sharlene drew one card. "Just the card I need! Kaiba thanks for clear my monster field zone for me. Now, I want to show you're a boring movie to pay back your generosity!" Sharlene put one card face down and then flipped up her Lord of dragon and used the same way that Seto used to summon his Blue eyes to summon her two `Silver winged dragon of Horus', then she used a trap card `Ultimate offering' and paid 500 life points to tribute summon her third `Silver winged dragon of Horus'.

"So, how do you like it?" Sharlene asked. "What's your next sequence?" Seto asked and looked at her face down card. `If she plans to fuse her dragons, then my Blue eyes will be in trouble. I underestimate that copy cat!' "No, unfortunately I don't have a magic card in my entire deck that can fuse them. Too bad, I summoned them and I can't do anything right now. I'll end my turn." Sharlene sounded pretty disappointed. `Seto, go a head and attack! It won't be long till my monster to finish you off.'

`What's that crazy girl doing? Wait a second! Is she trying to summon that God card she was saying before?' Seto couldn't really figure out her strategy.

"Kaiba, what's the held up?" Sharlene sounded bored.

"Blue eyes ultimate attack her Silver winged dragon!" Sharlene lost 1300 life points. She wasn't worried at all, instead, she was smiling.

"My turn!" Sharlene drew one card. "Ai, not thy right one. Oh, well, I play Thunder Nyan Nyan in defence mode and I'll also switch my other monsters into defence mode too." Sharlene ended her turn.

`What's Sharlene doing? She was like this while she was duelling last time? How come she had such a bad strategy right now?' Mokuba thought Sharlene played awful in this duel. He had seen Sharlene play just a few hours ago; she was aggressive and fast, she was totally different. Even Kaiba had no idea what Sharlene was trying to do. `If she wants to summon her GOD card, she needs three monsters, but, she also knew that I will attack her monster next turn, then why did she still summon another monster?' Kaiba drew another card and attacked Sharlene's second dragon.

Sharlene took a deep breath. `Come on, monsters! Help me! I have to draw the right card now! If I don't draw it, it may cost me the duel, although my face down card can protect me from losing, but it won't teach Kaiba a lesson!' Sharlene closed her eyes and drew a card, slowly, she opened her eyes. `Yes, I've got it! I've got it!' Sharlene was close to dance.

Seto looked at her silly behaviour, and thought. `What's she got now? Her God Card? She only has two monsters on the field!'

"Hey, I end my turn!" Sharlene yelled at Kaiba.

Seto was even more confused. `She is probably wasting my time!' Seto put the newly drawn card face down on the field and attacked Sharlene's third dragon.

"Thank you, Kaiba! You just summoned my God card `The Phoenix of Shu' for me!" Sharlene said in a quite evil tone.

"What?" Mokuba and Seto asked simultaneously.

"Watch and Learn!" Sharlene said proudly. "Rise! My Phoenix!" A huge golden ball appeared on the field. And then slowly the wings stretched out with sparking reddish flames. Its wings opened gradually, and then its head appeared. It looked like it just had been wakening from a long sleep. The sun shone under the sun and reflected a beautiful aura around itself. The phoenix had a warm colour which made Kaiba's Dragon looked even colder and bluer!

"Wow, it's beautiful!" Mokuba was stunned by its splendour.

"You wanna me give you an explanation, Kaiba?" Sharlene asked.

Seto glared at her and said nothing.

"I will say it anyway. In order to summon my Phoenix, I need five light type monsters in my card graveyard. When you destroyed my last dragon, it was summoned. For each five-star level light type monsters in the graveyard, my Phoenix will obtain 1000 attack points, and for each light type monsters that's lower than level five, my Phoenix will gets 100 attack points times the level of the monster. That's not it! For each light type monster on the field my Phoenix will also gets an extra 500 attack points! Too bad, my Thunder Nyan Nyan has to go, because my Phoenix is a GOD card! But, anyhow, now my Phoenix will have defence strength of 6000, because there are six light type monsters in my card graveyard. Phew, I finally finished!" Sharlene sounded like she was just finished her promotion.

Seto looked calm, but the clod sweats on his forehead told Sharlene that he was panicking! "Oh, well, all the light type monsters in your graveyard plus my Blue eyes Ultimate only gives your Phoenix 4500 attack points, and that's equal to my dragon." Seto thought that `GOD' card was useless.

"Kaiba, don't forget it's still your turn. Now it's my turn to draw a card and you dragon will be finished!" Sharlene was over the moon. Seto curled his lips. `It won't be easy to destroy my blues eyes Ultimate! Sharlene.' Sharlene put her newly drawn card face down on the field. It was not a monster card, but a powerful trap card which could destroy all Kaiba's monsters and wipe out half of his life points, yep, it's `The judgement of Anubis'. "I end my turn." Sharlene said, so far, it had been all good for her. `Opps…I forgot to turn my Phoenix into defence mode! Oh, well, I doubt that Kaiba will attack it. Any way, my face down cards will save me!' Sharlene was relaxed.

Kaiba drew `Monster reborn'. Just the card he needed. "Sharlene, it's time to bring back one of your old friends! Silver winged dragon of Horus come to me!" Seto knew he was going to win. "Ah…" Sharlene put her hand about her mouth, and tried desperate not to laugh. `Kaiba, you walked right into my trap! Pity you didn't know my Phoenix's special abilities!'

Sharlene's face looked a bit twisted of trying hard to laugh, and Seto thought she was startled. "You scared?" Seto sneered. "Now, your Phoenix only has 4000 attack points. And I trust you know that the special ability of your Silver winged dragon, it will attack your life points directly after the attack of my Ultimate Dragon. So prepare to lose them all! White lightening attack." Blue eyes Ultimate Dragon blasted out a white lightening ball and fire it at Sharlene's Phoenix, but the Silver winged dragon didn't attack Sharlene, it was in defence mode! And Sharlene's Phoenix was still on the field.

"What happened?" Seto asked, and quickly he activated his trap card `Waboku'.

"Quick thinking Kaiba. That saved your Blue eyes!" Sharlene spoke slowly. "Well, Kaiba, It's a pity that you know nothing about this `GOD'. Did you know that when you brought back my Silver winged from the graveyard, you activated my Phoenix's special ability?"

"What is that?"

"Because my Phoenix is special summoned, so when another monster is special summoned on the field, my Phoenix will absorb half of its attack power and turn it into defence mode." "Your Phoenix is full of surprises." Kaiba said coldly.

"Thanks for the compliment. And I will finish the duel…"

"The duel has just started, Sharlene!" Kaiba snapped.

Unexpectedly, a strong wind appeared from above.

"Seto, there is a chopper approaching us!" Mokuba pointed at the sky.

Seto looked up. "That is not one of mine."

Sharlene glared at the chopper. "O-o! I think I'm in big trouble."

"What is it Sharlene?" Mokuba asked.

"That is one of my Grandpa's Choppers." Sharlene said.

Meanwhile, the chopper had already landed on the building. A man in a silver suit, black shade jumped out and walked towards Sharlene.

He bowed at Sharlene first, and then he said: "Lady Sharlene, Lord Sinclair commanded that you have to come home with us! He insisted on `immediately'."

Sharlene smiled at him. "Jed, can you please, please give me ten more minutes? I'm about to win this duel! Just ten more minute!"

"Sorry, my Lady! I can't do that. You have to come home with us at once. It's the order from Lord Sinclair!" Jed said callously.

"What if I said no? I don't want to go home with you! I want to finish my duel first!"

Kaiba and Mokuba looked at them arguing and didn't know what to do. `She is related to Lord Sinclair? How wonder she's got those rare cards. She has blue blood.' Seto thought, and then he saw Sharlene ran to him hastily and hid behind him.

Two guys in black suits walked towards then and Jed followed.

"Kaiba, do something! I don't want go home!" Sharlene clutched his white shirt. Seto glared at her, she looked at like a rabbit that tried to get rid of the falcon behind her tail. Seto wanted to laugh. `This Sharlene girl is strangely interesting!'

"Hey, I don't care who you are, you are on my building, and Sharlene is my opponent. She can't leave unless we finish the duel!" Kaiba said commandingly to Jed.

"Then she will forfeit the duel, Mr Kaiba!" Jed said grimly, he glanced at Sharlene who was hiding behind Seto.

"Hey! You don't have the right to forfeit my duel! Sharlene Shin never forfeits a duel!" Sharlene jumped out and advanced to Jed. Seto wanted to drag her back, but he didn't move. Sharlene just realized that she jumped straight into Jed's ambush. The other two men graded her arm and strived to take her to the chopper.

"Kaiba, help! Help me!" Sharlene yelled.

Seto moved his mouth, but Jed snapped. "Mr Kaiba, this is our family business, I hope that you don't get into the middle of this…"

"Quiet! Everybody listen to me!" Sharlene shouted, she was surprised that she could hit such a `high note'. Everyone looked at her; Sharlene cleared her throat and then said. "Kaiba, keep my card. We will have to finish our duel next time. But, until then, please take good care of my dragon!" Sharlene gave Kaiba a smile. Seto nodded. And then he watched her walked into the chopper unwillingly. Seto stared at the chopper from it taking off until it vanished in his sight…

"Ah…" Seto sighed. Back in reality. He was sitting in front of his big computer and gazing at the Silver winged dragon of Horus, the card Sharlene had given him. "She is one strange girl!" Seto said to himself. `I didn't know why and how, I got the feelings that she was close to me once, really close…like Mokuba and I.' Seto thought about that and sighed again.

"Till we meet again next time, Sharlene! It won't be long from now!" A faint smiled appeared on Seto's face.
