Meira: Chapter 18 - The Heart of the Cards.

Yami: So you finally decided to reveal the title of the FanFic to us!

Meira: Yup.

Yami: What does Meira mean?

Meira: Not right now…

Yami: Please tell me…

Meira: Why?

Yami: I wanna know.

Meira: Light.

Yami: We're opposites!

Meira: At least my name isn't Hikari.

Meira: Say the disclaimer, Pharaoh.

Yami: Selena stands up for me!

Meira: I'll put you on a leash if you don't!

"Yugi," Kaiba growled, advancing on him. "What do you think you're doing with my cousin?"

`What?" Selena asked, confused.

"You mean you don't know?" Kaiba snapped angrily. Selena shook her head. "He was trying to kiss you!" he shouted, grabbing Yami by the collar.

"Seto!" Selena shouted, standing up. "Don't do this!"

"I can't let him do this!" Kaiba yelled, raising his fist. [Meira: What a cheap way out…]

"Seto!" Selena screamed. "I challenge you to a duel!" Kaiba dropped Yami.

"What did you say?" he asked.

"I said, `I challenge you to a duel.'" Selena repeated. "If I win, you let Yugi leave unharmed."

"And what if I win?" Kaiba asked.

"I'll never speak to Yugi again," Selena replied. Yami gasped.

"Selena," I can't let you do this!" Yami commanded.

"No," Selena replied. "I have to do this."

"Fine," Kaiba smirked. "We'll duel right now, using my Duel Disks and Battle City rules." Selena nodded.

"Selena," Yami started, but Selena stopped him.

"Don't say anything," she commanded, slipping the necklace that he gave her around her neck.

A few minutes later, they were standing in the backyard, with Mokuba refereeing.

"Seto, Selena," he said, looking at the two of them. "You tow sure you want to do this?"

"Positive," Kaiba replied.

"But Selena!" Yami shouted. "You've never even dueled before!"

Kaiba smirked. "Never dueled before?" he asked. "Then this should be a cinch."

"I assure you, it won't be!" Selena retorted, inserting her deck. The hologram projectors flew from the duel disks.

"Let's duel!" Selena and Kaiba said in unison. (Kaiba: 4000; Selena: 4000)

"I'll start off this duel," Selena said. "By placing a monster face down in defense mode, and by placing two cards face down." She inserted the cards.

"Not bad," Kaiba remarked. "You know how to use my duel disk!" he smirked. "But knowing how to use it isn't enough. I summon the mighty Battle Ox (1700/1000) in attack mode. Now!" he pointed at Selena's face down monster. "Attack her face down monster!" His battle Ox attacked, revealing her Mystical Elf (800/2000).

"You lose Life Points," Selena remarked. (Kaiba: 3700; Selena: 4000.) Kaiba growled. "Now," Selena said. "I summon the Dark Elf (2000/800) in attack mode. Now, attack his Battle Ox!" (Kaiba: 3400)

"Beginner's luck," he growled. "You won't be so lucky next time. I summon my Wall of Illusion (1000/1850) in defense mode to protect my life points, and I place one card face down, ending my turn." He smirked. "Go ahead and attack me." Selena glared at him

"First, I play the magic card Soul Exchange, which lets me sacrifice your Wall of Illusion to summon my Ill Witch (1600/1500) to the field! I also place one card face down, ending my turn."

"Impressive," Kaiba remarked. "But not good enough. I reveal my face down card, Raigeki!" Kaiba laughed. "This card destroys all of your monsters! Next, I play the Bistro Butcher (1800/1000) in attack mode! Attack her Life points directly!" (Selena: 2200) "But due to Bistro Butcher's special effect, you get to draw two cards."

Selena glared at him. "First, I play the magic card, Goblin's Secret Remedy to reinforce my Life Points." (Selena: 3200) "And next, I play Spirit of the Harp (800/2000) in defense mode!"

"Kaiba smirked. "Your spirit won't get far. For I sacrifice my Bistro Butcher to bring out Seyaryu (2500/2300) in attack mode! Attack her Spirit of the Harp!"

Selena glared at him. "I play Fissure! It destroys the monster on your side of the field with the lowest attack. And since you only have one monster on the field, your Seyaryu is destroyed! Now I play Neo the Magic Swordsman (1700/1000) in attack mode! Attack his Life Points directly!" (Kaiba: 1700)

Kaiba laughed. "Selena, you've learned a lot, and you play very well for a beginner, I'll give you that much. But now I play this - Meteor Destruction! It takes away 1000 of your Life Points!" (Selena: 2200) "Now, I play my Sword of Soul (1300/1000) in defense mode! And I play this, Swords of Revealing Light! You can't attack for three turns!"

Selena looked calm. "Fine. I sacrifice my Swordsman to bring out my Dark Magician Girl (2000/1700) in Attack mode! And I also place one card face down, ending my turn."

Kaiba nodded. "Good. For now I summon my Hitosu me Giant (1200/1000) in defense mode, ending my turn."

Selena glared at him again. "I play the Magic card, Sage's Stone! It allows me to summon the Dark Magician to the field! (2500/2100) Now I have two Magicians on the field. Enough to take out your life points!"

Kaiba laughed. "Your puny magicians aren't enough. For now, I summon my Blue Eyes White Dragon to the field by sacrificing my Sword of Soul and my Hitosu me Giant!" A Blue Eyes (3000/2500) appeared on my field. "And thanks to my Sword of Soul's special effect, I get to add 1000 attack points to my Blue Eyes!" (Current Blue Eyes: 4000/2500) "Now, my dragon, attack her Dark Magician Girl and wipe out 2000 of her Life Points!"

"Hold on!" Selena shouted. "You activated my trap card, Waboku! Your Blue Eyes's attack has been canceled."

"You may have stopped my Blue Eyes this turn," Kaiba sneered. "But how long can you hold out?"

"He's right," Selena thought. "How can I hold off his Blue Eyes? If I don't come up with something fast, I'll lose this duel!"

Meira: So now Selena has to contend with a Blue Eyes.

Yami: Yeesh, Meira. You're so harsh.

Kaiba: *wakes up* What the?

Meira: Why are they talking like Yami and Kaiba in a duel?

Yami: *suspiciously* Whaddya mean?

Meira: You two talk in paragraphs. No wonder your duel in the Battle City finals took six weeks to air…
