The Marauder's Touch

Chapter 1- Into Dreams

Yugi's eyes shot wide open as he sat up in his bed. He sat amongst his sheets, sweating through them and gasping for air. What was that? he thought, still panting. When will these visions stop?!

//"What is it, Aibou?"// ,asked Yami from within him, wondering why Yugi awoke with such a start.

"I had another nightmare, Yami." Yugi answered, still afraid and out of breath.

//"Oh, I see. Still of the girl?"//

Yugi nodded solemnly. "She was executed this time...Yami?"

//"Yes, Yugi?"//

He drew in a breath of confidence. "Who was Ororro Yazik?"

//"I still have no idea."// Yami said simply and truthfully. "I have still not regained all the memories from my past yet."//

"Are you sure?" Yugi pressed on.

//"You have heard me! I still don't know!"// he said becoming angry.

"I just don't see how you can---"

//"I said what I meant, Aibou, and that's all!"//

Yugi sighed and looked about his room. The morning sun was creeping through his window, beginning to flood the space in a pale winter light. "It's almost 7 o'clock," Yugi said. "I better get ready for school." As Yugi went to the bathroom to brush his teeth, his mind was still on what he saw and pondered how it all happened.

It was a few months after all of the events of the Battle City Tournament when it began. Yugi and his Yami side had been through immense situations and wanted to lead a normal way of life as best way they could and tried their best not to speak of anything to do with the Tournament. Yugi went as extreme as to sometimes go out of his house, without the mystical Millennium Puzzle, and the spirit that dwelled inside, around his neck. No matter their effort, however, no amount of forced normalcy could stop what Yugi had to endure.

Lately, Yugi had been having brief dreams reflecting parts of Yami's past as a pharaoh. He would see him at his work, making laws, moving about his palace, sitting upon his throne, and staring listlessly at the guards' austere faces. This had always been boring and meaningless and Yugi would never dwell on them too much. More recently, however, Yugi began seeing graphic visions about a mysterious girl called Ororro Yazik. Every dream with her would be the same, but it would gradually progress as if telling a story. He first saw the girl alone in a filthy prison cell below the palace, cursing and threatening the pharaoh's life. After the fourth night, Yugi saw her being thrown at Yami's feet and saying how he betrayed her and hoped with all of her being that he would pay for what he had done to her. It was only this past night that he had seen Ororro be executed so mercilessly. It all seemed so real to him. Yugi could literally feel the girl's pain as the sword sliced through her neck. Even more so, Yugi even had an unpleasant sanguine smell lingering in his nose.

Yugi shook his head, trying to dispel those thoughts, and took a swig of water to wash the fluoride from his mouth. As he watched the running water swirl around at the bottom of the basin, Yugi could not help but to think of how similar Ororro's blood was to the water…. He shook his head again, spat, and went to his room to get dressed.

"They say that there's a new kid coming to school today," Yugi said to Yami, trying to get his mind off of the dream.

//"Oh,"// said Yami. //"Another one of those 'foreign exchange' students?"//

"No," Yugi replied as he pulled on a pair of pants and a shirt. "Not really, but I did hear that they're not from this country." He then looked in the mirror as he buttoned his shirt.

//"Really? From where?"//

"Um…I think somewhere far off near Europe I guess. All I know is that our entire class was abuzz last week when Mr. Shinoda told all of us. They've been trying forever to get some info out of him, but he didn't seem to know as much as we did."

//"I see. Well, at least you'll know today."//

"Yeah, true."

It was a cold and frigid day in mid-December when Yugi made his way to school. The sky overcast was grey and unsmiling and sent a light snow to dust the already lain from yesterday. Everything around him seemed dead; the trees were barren and wasted, the streets were not filled with the usual early morning traffic, and there was no one around. All that was there was the crunching sound Yugi made as he trudged through the snow. Pretty soon, Yugi's footsteps were joined by a second pair.

"HEY, YUGE!" called a familiar voice. "WAIT UP!!"

Yugi stopped and turned to see who it was. It was none other than his best friend Joey running up to greet him. He had to have been feeling cold that morning for he had on three sweaters, a scarf, a huge red bubble jacket, and a large green knit hat. Despite all of this, when he came to Yugi, he was shivering.

"Hey, Joey." ,Yugi brightly salutated. "How was your weekend?"

"I barely did anything," he said, his teeth chattering. "I'm really waitin' for Christmas! I'm gonna spend break wit Mom and Serenity!"

"Sounds like fun, Joey. I hope you have a good time."

"You had that dream again, didn't you?" Joey asked, seeing right through his friend's cheerful façade.

Yugi nodded solemnly. "She was killed this time…."

"You ask Yami about it?"

He shook his head. "No… He still knows nothing about her. I don't know what to do anymore. Every night they get worse. It's like I'm seeing into parts of Yami's past."

"You knew it was bound to happen sooner or later, Yuge. I mean ever since you two were joined together, it was pretty likely that somethin' like dis would happen."

"I'd rather not talk about it right now."

"You'll have to one of these days. You ain't even tell your own grandfather about all of this."

"He's had too much to deal with me already. You want me to add this on there too?"

"I see your point, but nothin' can stay secret forever, Yuge, remember that."

"Where's Tristan?" asked Yugi, desperately trying to get Joey off the subject of his dreams.

"I ain't seen him all weekend," answered Joey. "I went to his house on Saturday, but his mom said he was sick. I asked to see him, but she said he really needed his rest."

"What does he have, the flu again?"

"Nah, I tried ask his mom that but she said she didn't know. Tristan's mom said he just came home that way…"

"Sounds serious…I hope he's okay."

"He will be. Tristan may be annoyin' as hell but he's strong as an ox. We'll probably see him tomorrow."

"I hope so…"

As they both continued to traipse through the snow, they soon saw other students of Domino High plodding towards school as well, all of them wrapped up in clothes just as Joey was. The only one unaffected by the bitter cold was Seto Kaiba. He passed them all in his black stretch limousine, mercilessly kicking up white as he did. "That fucking bastard!" cursed Joey, brushing off his face. It was only a matter of time before they all finally saw the familiar large sandy-bricked building with all of the students filing in to escape the cold. Without much haste, both Yugi and Joey ran to the warmth of the building as fast as their feet could carry them and went straight to their lockers, where everyone was tediously peeling off their protective layers.

"Y'know," said Joey, pulling off one of his three sweaters. "A new kid is supposed to come today."

"Yeah, I know." Yugi replied, taking off his boots and putting on his slippers. "I wonder what they're like? Mr. Shinoda barely said anything about them."

"Well if you wanna find out here comes the eyes, ears, and testicles of Domino High."

Tea` promptly smacked Joey in the back of the head. "I HEARD THAT!!!"

"I was only jokin'," he said, rubbing the spot where he was hit. "It's not my fault you----"

"Good morning, Tea`!" Yugi interrupted. "Did you happen to see the new kid?"

Tea` nodded. "I did. I saw her down at the main office getting her roster."

"OOOOH!!" growled Joey in lust. "A girl! It's about time we had some new p--"

"What is she like?" Yugi interrupted again.

"Foreign…" Tea` replied. "Very foreign. That's all I can say."

"How foreign?" asked Joey.

"Foreign enough to stand out."

Suddenly the bell rang, summoning all of the students into their classes. As the others went grimly into the room, Yugi and his friends could not help but to feel anxious about the new classmate that was to come today, but much to their chagrin, she wasn't there. All that was there were the normal solemn faces that they saw day after day, week after week, and nothing new. Even after they all took their seats and Mr. Shinoda came in, the new girl was yet to be found.

"Good morning, class!" Mr. Shinoda greeted, a young, tall, and lanky auburn-headed man with brown eyes.

"Good morning, Mr. Shinoda…" they all returned unenthused.

"Well, today is Monday, and time to start anew from last week. Let's begin with--

There was a knock on the door.

"Come in." Mr. Shinoda beckoned.

The door swung open and a girl walked in. She had long, wavy dark hair with golden blonde streaks running the length of it tied in a braid down her back, and had striking hazel eyes. She was petite and short, only a few inches from Yugi's height, somewhere around 5'2. It was obvious that she was not from the country. Like Tea` had said, she definitely stood out from everyone else for she had bronze skin the color of warm desert sand. She wore large golden ankhs earrings and a smaller pendant on her choker that shone proudly on her ears and neck. Yugi and Joey automatically had an idea where she was from. Another aspect about the girl was that she also wore fingerless black lace gloves, and had no intent to take them off. The girl was good looking (to the standards of Joey.), but she looked on at them with a frowning expression. It was evident she did not want to be there. The girl then handed Mr. Shinoda a sheet of paper.

"Ah, yes," he said eyeing it. "Could you please pronounce your name for me?"

"Shanzunia," the girl simply said. "Shanzunia Kizay."

Mr. Shinoda then turned to his class. "Class, I'd like you all to meet your new classmate, Shanzunia Kiz-oy, from Alexandria, Egypt."

The class applauded. Shanzunia did not respond.

"Quite a transcript you have here, Miss Kiz-oy," said Mr. Shinoda. "Fifteen schools in under six years."

"Kizay," Shanzunia corrected. "I have traveled a lot."

"All right, miss. Please take your seat in the third row, fifth chair, behind Mr. Kaiba and we'll begin."
