Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ The Shadow of the Past; The Light of the Future ❯ Battle of the Kas ( Chapter 8 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

I'm so sorry everyone! *bows* Please forgive me!

Atem: *sigh* Don't lower yourself like this. We all have schedules that keep us busy. Yours just happens to be school.

*cries* Not fair! Why did I have to get that stupid `F' on Algebra 2!

Bakura: Think of it this way, you don't have to have to deal with writers block throughout the week.

O_O… You scare me.

Bakura: That means I'm doing my job right.

Atem: *rolls eyes* YGO Cupid does not own Yu-Gi-Oh or its characters…

Bakura: Thank god!

What was that?!

Atem: *sigh* And she doesn't own the `Millennium World' part of the story, but she will use this in order to continue with the help of her own creativity.

At least he's nice about it, unlike some guys I know.

Bakura: You talking about me again?!

*sticks tongue out* Like you would like to know! *starts running*

Atem: *sigh* And here I was just liking the silence of it all. *hears crashing sounds* *sighs again* Here's the long awaited chapter. Please review, she was really sad that she only got a few.

Ch. 8: Battle of the Kas
-Yugi's POV-
“This isn't a demon… This is a god… the great Diabound!” Bakura said.

`A god?' I thought as I looked on from the safety of the pillars that were bordering the room. Then he started to laugh a little before speaking.

“What is `evil'? If I'm loyal to what you say is right, is that all it takes to make me `good'?”

I didn't quite understand what he was saying, but I heard what sounded like Seto's voice and looked over.

“Evil ka! By the power of the Millennium Rod, I cast you into the holy stone!”

I watched as `Diabound' went into the stone.

“Now do you see?” The Seto-look-alike said.

“You think it's over…?” Bakura said as the stone started to crumble. “Your sealing stones are useless against my Ka!” He said proudly.

“In that case…” `Seto' said. “Let me show you the true power of the priests!”

“Unbelievable!” Said Siamun. “How can a lowly thief have a holy spirit `ka'… A `good' ka… And it's so strong!”

“Good!” Bakura said to the priests. “That sounds fun! Come on all of you! Fight me!”

“Priest Seth! The enemy is powerful!” Said the elder man with the Millennium Eye. “We should join forces to…”

“STAY BACK!” Seth shouted. “I'm more than strong enough for someone like him!”

`He acts so much like him.' I thought with a sigh. `Head strong and always does things on his own. It's going to get himself killed one of these days!'

Seth than started to chant in something I couldn't understand and a stone slab appeared from the ground!

`What the heck?!' I thought when I remembered something from a few years ago.

^Flashback^
“Huh?! You're serious?!” I said. Atem just told me what his father saw when he was visiting Pro. Hopkins, another Egyptologist.

“Yeah! There was Duel Monsters in that time too!” Atem said.

“That's so cool!” I said.

“I know!”

“I wander how they play it in that time?”

“Well, Dad said that, back in those days, they probably play the game instead of wars.”

“How come?”

“Because it was one of the most dangerous games that only highly skilled people could play.”

“Dangerous?” I said questionably as he nodded.

“Because in those times, the monster represents who you are, therefore, you're fighting for your life.”
^End of Flashback^

“So your great big `Ka' appears at last…!” Bakura said.

“Galestgoras, I summon thee!” Seth said as the dragon-like monster appeared.

`Oh sugar honey iced tea! This really does resemble Duel Monsters!' I thought, feeling afraid as the voice inside my head kept screaming for me to run to somewhere safe.

“Go Priest Seth!!” Siamun called as both Seth and Bakura shouted. “DIAHA!”

`I guess that means `game start' here.' I thought.

“You pulled that monster Galestgoras out of a sinner… But none of the monsters in your temple is a match for Diabound, my spirit beast!” Bakura said. “I am the King of Thieves! I am much more than any other `sinner'… More than you can imagine!”

“I have no need to summon my personal guardian spirit…” Seth said. “To defeat the `ka' of someone like you!”

“What you mean is you're afraid!” Bakura said. “If your own spirit were hurt, your life would be in danger!”

`Well, that's true…' I thought, remembering what Atem said. `Because in those times, the monster represents who you are, therefore, you're fighting for your life.'

“Boast while you can, scum!” Seth said as his monster attacked Diabound.

`Amazing!' I thought as the monsters fought.

“I'll end this in one move!” Seth said as his monster went up into the air and was about to stomp…

“Are you sure about that…?” Bakura said quietly as the smoke cleared.

“WAIT! Diabound is gone!” Seth said. “How can this be? Did it return to its host?!!”

“NO!” Bakura said. “I activated Diabound's special ability… When a person has a `ka' in his soul, it develops the powers that he wishes he had… It reflects his most secret desires! As for me… I am a thief! What power would help me steal treasure…? The power to move through solid stone!”

`This isn't good.' I thought.

“His ka can move through walls?!” Said the elder priest.

“And one more thing…” Bakura said. “When a monster is summoned from a stone slab… It will vanish if that slab is destroyed, right?!”

`Not good!' I thought.

“OH NO! Seth! Protect the stone tablet!” The elder priest called.

“Too late…” Bakura said.

“The spirit beast is appearing on the slab!” Seth said as the stone cracked to pieces, making the second monster out disappear.

“This is boring…” Bakura said. “I want to fight the Pharaoh!!”

`The Pharaoh?!' I thought.

“Curse you … vile thief…” Seth said.

“Dull, dull, dull!” Bakura said. “How about it Pharaoh? Will you challenge me? If I lose, you can have my head. But if you lose, I'll take your life, you gold finery… And your Millennium Items!”

I tried to look over, but I was afraid that I was going to be spotted. `What am I doing here?' I thought. `I'm not strong and I can't hold a weapon to fight or defend myself. What was I thinking?'

“Have you no respect?!” The elder priest said. “How dare you say such things to the Pharaoh, the divine king?! There will be no mercy for you!!”

I watched how all the priests are able to stand up against this strong crazed person that's far from someone I know. `I can't even do that.' I thought sadly.

“Bakura!”

`That voice!' I thought.

“Why do you want the Millennium Items?”

`Atem?!' I thought happily. `I knew I saw something earlier!'

“Why don't you ask him?” Bakura said holding up a mummy.

“It's him!” The elder priest said. “The former king!”

I was shocked. `How?! The tomb's entrance was completely blocked!' I thought.

“You barbarian!” Seth shouted. “How dare you step on the body of Pharaoh Akhenamkhanen? I'll flay that foot to the bone!”

I bit my lower lip, wanting to run out and do the same thing I did back in the Valley of the Kings.

“After all… Akhenamkhanen made them! He was the one who brought the Millennium Items into this world!” Bakura said.

“Bakura…” The elder priest started. “The great Pharaoh Akhenamkhanen ruled for forty years… He put an end to the wars between countries and brought peace to this land!”

“Peace for you…” Bakura said.

“Pharaoh Akhenamkhanen wished for a millennium of peace for this war-torn country… It is for that purpose that he made the Millennium Items!”

“I know this story!” Bakura said, getting annoyed.

“To stamp out all evil… To purge all sinners…” The elder priest continued. “He left us these seven holy items imbued with the power of justice and righteousness!”

Bakura laughed at this. “Justice?! Don't make me laugh! Don't you know the truth? The Millennium Items are forbidden artifacts of black magic! The evil power of the darkness dwells within them! The one who owns all seven of them can forge a contract with the dark spirits of the afterworld!”

“That's absurd!” A priest with the Millennium Ring said.

“Dark spirits of the afterworld…?” A female priest said.

“Have you ever heard the name… of the village of Kul Elna?” Bakura said.

`Kul Elna?' I thought as I noticed that the elder priest looked surprised.

“That village is now a ruin, but a secret shrine is hidden there… and in that shrine is the tablet of the afterworld…” Bakura explained. “The one who places all seven Millennium in that stone tablet… will be given the power of the shadows by the evil god Zorc Necrophades!” He laughed again. “Did you ever think maybe that's why your pharaoh made the items? Maybe Akhenamkhanen was after that evil power… just like me! Not just Egypt… he wanted to rule the entire world with the power of darkness!”

“Bakura!! Get your foot off of that body!” Atem/Pharaoh said, well… more like demanded.

“So… I finally got your butt off the throne… `Great Pharaoh'…” Bakura said.

“That does it!” A priest with the Millennium Key said. “To insult the Pharaoh means death! We Priests will carry out your execution!”

I made a fist and it started to shake, and rarely do I get angry to a point of dislike. `I wish I was strong like you, Atem.' I thought.

“You priests are in the way!” Bakura said. “I'll get rid of all of you at the same time!”

At that moment, the priests chanted to get four stone slabs out of the ground.

“Monster ka sealed in the stone slab…” The elder priest said. “Spirit ka within my body! I summon thee!”

I thought they were amazing, until I caught a glimpse of the condition the mummy was in. `Why that—“ I thought as my anger was in control and ran out as soon as the priests started to summon monsters.

-Normal POV-
“Pharaoh…!” Siamun said as the young ruler started to walk out. “It's too dangerous!! The ka of the priests and the thief are about to clash! Return to the throne!!”

But the young ruler didn't pay any attention to his vizier, he only wanted to get the mummy of his father away from Bakura.

“You again?!” Bakura called out, grabbing his attention.

`That girl!' The Pharaoh thought as he looked at the girl carrying the mummy and trying to quickly get away without furthering the damage on the mummy. “Protect the girl!” He shouted. `What was she thinking?!'

-Yugi's POV-
The ka all attacked Diabound, but some didn't make it.

Bakura laughed at this. “You're no match for my Diabound!”

I heard something from the priests, but I didn't pay attention as I once again rammed the thief's side, making him drop the rope, and gently picked the mummy up. `What on Earth did he do to you?' I thought, seeing that there were some things missing, probably on the way over here.

Bakura looked at me and, even though my hair was a lot shorter than before, recognized me. “You again?!” He said as I started to walk quickly without damaging the mummy more.

`Even in death they don't catch a break!' I thought as I heard Atem, or the Pharaoh, saying to the priests to protect me. `Only because I have his dead father's corpse.' I thought sadly, but still a little happy for what ever reason.

-Normal POV-
“I summon my servant… the Battle Ox!” Seth said as the ox-warrior monster appeared. “Attack Diabound! Cut the demon in half!” The Battle Ox aimed for an attack but the snake-tail wrapped itself around the monster's arm.

“Now you're trapped…” Bakura said.

“The same goes for you!” Seth said. “Mahado!” He called to the priest with the Millennium Ring. “Now! Make your move!”

“Yes!” Mahado said. “Spirit ka that dwells within me… Magus of Illusion! Use your secret power! Spell-binding phantasm!” The mage-monster placed what looks like the spell-binding circle around Diabound.

“Now you can't walk through walls…” Seth said. “That means you can't sneak away… thief!”

Bakura looked very disappointed.

-Yugi's POV-
`Why is everything happening like this?' I thought. `Why am I here for? It's not like I'm special. I can only run.'

`Justice is in the name of the gods!'

I heard Papa Aki's voice, or the former Pharaoh's. `That's right! I almost forgot about that!'

“Young girl! Over here quickly!” Siamun said as I quicken my pace, but not before feeling the staggering pain down in my left side.

-Normal POV-
“Don't let him get away!!” Seth called.

“My spirit ka will finish him off!” Akhenaden, the priest who has the Millennium Eye, said. “Attack Gadius!”

Bakura chuckled. “So your ka is Gadius, oldman…?” He smiled while thinking. `Diabound hit him once before… his ba must have taken a lot of damage… And if you lose all your ba, your physical body dies too! The priests don't have nearly enough ba to stop my Diabound… they might run our of life force just trying to hold him…!'

Mahado was slightly struggling keeping the spell up. `What awesome power…!' He thought. `Just keeping the spell intact is taking all I have…!'

`Mahado is running out of magic!' Seto thought. `His heka is growing weaker!' He than said. “We have to combine our attacks now!”

“Spira, my ka!” Isis, the only female with the Millennium Taunk, said. “Now is the time!”

“Strike, Gadius!” Akhenaden called. “Kill him!”

Bakura smiled. `Don't you get it yet…? I let you catch me just so I could take care of all of you at once!' He thought as he called. “Take this! Spiral Wave!” Diabound let out a strong tornado-like attack.

“What?!” Mahado said. “He threw off the binding circle?!”

“This is Diabound's second special ability!” Bakura said proudly. “This attack blows away my enemies and dispels all magic cast upon me!” He smiled as the thought. `I would get rid of the Pharaoh now, but…' Unknown to everyone, except him, there was a laser-like attack that appeared within the chaos of the current attack and the kas that are withstanding it. `You're a problem that needs to be dealt with!' The attack shot its target; a young girl holding a mummy.

-Yugi's POV-
I didn't know what happened! I was heading to the safe point, than I felt something go through me.

“No!” Atem/Pharaoh said as he ran to me.

Suddenly, I felt so weak that I couldn't move one more step, instead I felt like falling.

He caught me, mummy and all, and carried me to where the throne is. As he set me down he took the mummy and placed it respectfully to the side before going to my side.

“By the gods!” Siamun said. “You need medical attention now! But…” He looked over at the fight that was going on.

I took this moment to look at my condition. As it turns out, I have a nasty open wound on my side. I probably only have minutes to live because I'm loosing so much blood, and no one is able to get me help right away.

“Why?” Atem/Pharaoh asked.

I didn't want to look at him.

“Why did you risk your life like that?”

I was thinking of a good answer when I felt a hand on my chin and forced me to look up.

“Well?” He pressed one.

I smiled. `He, looks exactly like Atem back home.' I thought as I responded. “Because I've always been taught that to never turn your back on what you believe is right.”

He looked surprised.

“Either that or I'm just out of my mind.” That's when I felt weak and dizzy. “Speaking of which,” I continued, feeling like I was drifting away. “Your father told me to tell you that `justice is in the name of the gods'.” I felt slight pain on the side and I held onto it.

“Siamun…” He said.

“Yes Great Pharaoh?”

“Take care of her, I'll deal with Bakura.”

“B-But—“

“He may do what ever he wants with me… but disturb my family's peace and hurting my friends is unforgivable!”

I watched in complete amazement.

-Normal POV-
“What power…” Mahado said, very tired from the attack.

“How in the world… can we…?” Akhenaden said completely bewildered, until a new presence stepped up into the battle field.

“I'm going to fight!” The Pharaoh said. “The rest of you get back.”

“Great Pharaoh…!” The Priests said in unison.

“So the `Great Pharaoh' himself joins the battle!” Bakura said with a chuckle. “You'll join you father as a mummy!” He smiled manianicly. `No matter what ka you have, you can't beat Diabound! No one can! I'll make this palace… this city… into your grave!' The snake-head tail was aiming to strike the young ruler.

`Justice is in the name of the gods…' The Pharaoh thought.

“Pharaoh!” Mahado called. “Look out!” Everyone was shocked seeing this.

`And the name of the god is…' The pendent glowed. `OBELISK!' He called in his mind as a light appeared behind him, radiating off powerful energy.

Bakura, for the first time since arriving uninvited, looked surprised. `Wha… What the…?' He thought. `This power that shakes the earth…'

“No!” Akhenaden said, completely surprised. “It can't be…!”

“I'll show you one of my three great allies… one of the three hidden gods!” The Pharaoh said as a great god-like monster became visual.

`Is this…' Bakura thought. `A real god…?'

“Bow before the gods, Bakura!” The Pharaoh said.

`Everything carries me
Irresistibly to you, like the wind
Everything connects me
Irresistibly to you, I feel it

Like the day returning after night
And it's always sunny after rain
Like a bird returning to its nest
That with my love, I go too

Everything carries me
Irresistibly to you, in that instant
Everything connects me
Irresistibly to you, I feel it

Like the sea hitting the rocks
Obstinately without ever ceasing
By misfortune we are always hitting
But love alone can save us

Like pleasure after tears
After winter returns the flower weather
At the moment where we believe that all has died
Love returns with a great victory

Everything carries me
Irresistibly to you, like the wind
Everything connects me
Irresistibly to you, I feel it.'
