Ch. 10: Awaken
~Next Morning: Ancient Egypt~
The sun rose to show a bright new day. Amethyst orbs opened in confused daze. Yugi's eyes were different from the night before. They were dull, almost in a trance.

“Hey! Look who's up?” Mana said coming up to her. “Wow! You've really recovered quickly. You know you've got everyone including the Pharaoh worried about you?” She looked at her before becoming confused. “Hey what's wrong?”

Yugi didn't answer, she stared up at the ceiling.

“Hey! Stop freaking me out!” Mana said as she looked at the young girl. `I don't understand! She was nothing like this yesterday. Unless…' She remembered the commotion that happened. `Was… Was she part of that commotion?' She looked at the girl again, who hasn't moved. `Now that I think about it, wasn't I suppose to do something when she woke up?' She thought.

^Flashback^
She ran out to find the Pharaoh. “If anyone knows about the commotion it's—“ She said to herself when she bumped into the person she was looking for.

“Mana? What in gods—“

“Oh my gosh! Are you alright?! Are you hurt?!”

“Mana!” The Pharaoh called, silencing the girl. “Now, what were you doing running like that?”

“I want to know what happened in the throne room!” She said.

He sighed. “It was just and unexpected ambush from a thief with a very powerful ka.”

“A powerful ka? That is unexpected.”

“Would you do me a favor?”

“Of course!”

“Would you keep an eye on her?” He pointed to the girl on his bed.

Mana took a closer look and nearly screeched. “My gods! I saw her just yesterday!”

“You know her?”

“Well, not exactly… I only talked to her for a short time…”

The Pharaoh nodded as he noticed one of his priests coming. “When she wakes up, would you please let me know.”

Mana saluted. “Will do!”

He chuckled than asked. “Mana, when you talked to her, what was she like?”

Mana looked confused for a moment before answering. “Well, she's really nice and completely polite, it's almost hard to believe that she was just a last minute dancer. Oh! And she's completely new to our ways and all, but she seems to know some of our customs and such…”

“Thank you Mana.” He said. “Don't forget to let me know when she wakes.”
^End of Flashback^
“Ahh!” Mana placed both her hands on her head. “I nearly forgot!” She looked at the young girl. “Hey! I'm going to let the Pharaoh know you're awake, okay?”

Yugi didn't respond, she made no motion that could even consider a response.

`Man, what's wrong with her? Did something happen in the throne room? I mean, she was the last dancer…' She thought as she ran out the door. “Watch her, kay!” She quickly said to the guard as she quickly ran down the halls.

~In another wing of the palace~
All the priests were dueling their kas against another to make them stronger. One side had a team of three priests and so did the other side. They were starting their third round of the morning, when Mana ran in.

“Pharaoh!” She called as she reached to where he was sitting.

“What's wro—“ The Pharaoh was about to say when she cut him off.

“She's awake! But something's wrong with her!” She said as she tried to catch her breath.

“What do you mean Mana?”

“I mean, she's not like the one I met, and she's not responding!”

He stood up and walked towards the door, with the priests following. When he reached to his room, he saw her, still laid back on his bed. He went up and saw the dull complexion.

“She was like that when she woke up.” Mana said, but the Pharaoh guessed as much.

“Something's missing.” Isis said.

“Missing?” Mana echoed questionably.

Isis nodded as she continued. “I sense a protective thread around her, probably from the gods and I also sense a huge gap within her soul.”

“What does that mean?” Kalim asked.

“If you paid more attention, the gods gave her a second chance on life for whatever reason, and she had to pay the price to do so.”

The Pharaoh listened to the conversation and looked at the girl. `What was your price?' He absently reached his hand while he thought this. `Was it your aura? The calming and warm aura that seemed to radiate the moment you enter a room? Is it the sparkle in your eyes? Or is it your personality?' He thought as he felt something soft under his finger tips, which brought him out of his thoughts. When his finger tips touched her forehead, to brush away the bangs, it some how made something react.

Her eyes became wide and her body glowed, but only for a moment, than disappeared and passed out.

“What in gods name…?” The Pharaoh said as he looked at the priests, mostly Isis.

“You've broken the seal that protected her.”

“Come again?”

“The gods placed a seal on her, and only you, Pharaoh, could break it so easily.” Isis smiled. “And from this moment on, you're her guardian.”

“Guardian?!” Seth said. “Why would the Pharaoh, a mortal god, be a guardian to some girl that we don't know?”

“I don't mind.” The Pharaoh said with a smile.

“But, my king, you already have the kingdom to worry about.”

“And your point?”

Before Seth could say anything, the young girl stirred and opened her eyes once more, this time they were bright like they were, and turned her head towards the young ruler as he smiled.

`Her eyes, thank goodness the gods didn't take that sparkle.' He thought. “Hello, how are you?”

She blinked and tilted her head to the side. “I'm sorry, do I know you?”

~Modern Day: Domino~
Atem drove up in front of the museum and walked up, were Ishizu was waiting. She was a tall, elegant Egyptian woman with long black hair and dark eyes. “Good afternoon.” She said.

“Hey.” He said with a tired sigh.

“Is something on your mind?”

“More or less.” He replied as they walked inside.

“Would you like to talk about it?”

“Why did you think I ditched the site?”

Ishizu sighed. “You do remember who's sponsoring the site?”

“I know, I know.” He said. “But this is important.”

“Like how?”

He looked at her serious. “I thought I had a vision of the past, and Yugi was there.”

Ishizu paused. “Are you sure?”

“Would I ever lie?”

Ishizu sighed as they were getting close to her office. They were only a few feet from the door when he paused. “Atem?” She said when Atem collapsed. “Atem!”

-Atem's POV-
`What now?!' I thought as the vision of Yugi was clear as day. `Yugi!' I called, mental wise that is since I'm looking through the eyes of the Pharaoh version of me. “Hello, how are you?” He said.

“I'm sorry, do I know you?” She said.

`Yugi…' I thought as I felt a strong sting in my chest. `Don't you remember?' Than the Pharaoh spoke. “Don't you remember?”

“Remember what?”

“Just anything… A name.”

“A name?”

“Yes, your name.” He said. `What the hell is he doing?!' I thought as I sighed. `If my theory is correct…' I heard him think. `Than the price was…'

“I…” She started to say. “I… I don't know.”

`Her memory.' He and I thought at the same time. “That's okay,” He said placing a hand on her shoulder. “You've been through a lot, I'm sure it'll come back to you.” I sighed. `Smooth.' I rolled my eyes.

“Do… Do you know my name” She asked.

`It's Yugi! Yugi! Yugi! YUGI!!' I thought loudly. “I'm afraid not.” He said, which made me drop to one side. `Gods!' I thought. `I can't get their attention, they can't see me, and this idiot can't hear me! What the hell is going on?!'

“May I ask where I am?” She asked.

“You're in the palace in Egypt.”

“A palace?”

“Yes,” He said. “And as of this moment, I've been assigned to be your guardian as long as you live here.”

“My guardian?”

`At least she's taken care of, at least.' I thought.

“Pharaoh!”

`Seto?' I thought, recognizing the voice. “What is it Seth?” The Pharaoh said.

“We still have matters concerning Bakura.”

“Bakura?” She said.

“The person who attacked the palace.” The Pharaoh said.

“Why?”

“Gods she asks so many questions!”

“Seth!” He called in a warning tone.

“I-I'm sorry.” She bowed her head. “I'll be quiet.”

The Pharaoh glared at the person who looks a lot like Seto, I helped even though it didn't do much, before looking at Yugi with a soft expression. “It's okay to ask questions. There's no shame to know what you're curious about.” I smiled. `Way to go!' I cheered as soon as I felt a pull. `Wait a sec! I want to know more about this!' But I soon found myself looking up at Ishizu.

“Atem, are you alright?”

I looked at her for a moment and smiled. “Yes, now that I know that Yugi's in safe hands.” I said and thought. `But she doesn't know who she is anymore, and how is she able to get back? That's the question that I would like to know.'

~Egypt~
“The Millennium Items?” The once known Yugi asked as she looked at the upside-down pyramid that the young ruler held up, who nodded.

“Yes, Bakura came last night and challenged all of us in order to get these items.”

“Do they really hold a power?”

“Yes.”

“What's you item's power?”

“Unity.”

“Unity?”

He chuckled. “Yes and over there,” He mentioned the priests to enter. “Are the priests that have the remaining six.” He pointed to Isis. “This is Isis, her item is called the Millennium Taunk and it's powers can show her the past and the future.”

“Wow.” She said, making the female giggle.

He than pointed to Kalim. “This is Kalim, his item is the Millennium Scales, and it's power can weigh a person's soul. Shada,” He mentioned to the next priest. “his item is the Millennium Key and it can look into a person's mind and soul. You've met Seth, and his is the Millennium Rod and it has the ability to seal monsters in slabs and can control peoples minds.”

She slightly backed away.

“Don't worry, he may be mean and scary looking, but he's very intelligent and understanding when you two get acquainted.”

She relaxed a little.

“This is Akhenaden, as you can see, his item is called the Millennium Eye and it can bring out the ka monster from a person as well as peeking through one's mind.”

She looked a little uneasy.

“Don't worry, he won't do anything like that.”

“Oh, it's not the ability I'm scared of.” She said, making the young ruler tilt his head in a confused manor. “Don't take this the wrong way Akhenaden, but your item kinda scares me.”

“I'm glad you let me know.” Akhenaden said with a kind smile, making her unease slightly slip away.

“And last but not least, Mahado, his is the Millennium Ring, it can point out dark energies…”

“Isn't hard?”

“Pardon?” Mahado asked.

“Well, I'm not completely sure about how the people are around here, but isn't it hard to find one person in particular when you got a lot of other's that seem to block what you're looking for?”

“Well… Sometimes, yes.”

“I'm sorry.”

“Don't be,” Mahado said. “It's like the Pharaoh said, it's okay to ask questions.”

“Yes, but even that has a limit.”

Everyone was surprised to hear this.

“It seems she's not as helpless as we all thought.” Seth said when a sound of a stomach growl interrupted.

The girl clutched her stomach.

“Hungry?” The Pharaoh said with a smile.

She nodded, trying to hide her blushed face.

“Here.” Mana said holding out an apple.

She looked at it before taking it. “Thank you.” She said.

Mana smiled. “No problem. Name's Mana by the way.”

“It's great to meet you as well.”

“Hey!” Mana said suddenly. “When you're up to it, want me to give you a tour of the palace?”

“That sounds great.”

“Is it okay Pharaoh?” Mana asked.

“I don't see any harm to it.” He said.

“Alright!”

“Now Mana.” Mahado said. “You still have your training to work on.”

“I know Master, but…”

“Uh… Excuse me?” She said, gaining their attention. “But, may I ask what you're training for?”

Before Mahado could say anything, Mana jumped on the bed and chatted lively.

“I'm going to be a magic sorcerer just like most of the priests here like my Master.”

“Do you know some magic?”

“A little.”

“I would like to see some while you're giving me a tour.”

“Really?!”

“Uh huh.”

Mana hugged her. “That settles it! She my adoptive sister from now on!”

She laughed along with the other girl.

The Pharaoh shook his head from amusement.

“Well, if we're quite done in here, we should discuss the damage that Bakura has done to the city.” Seth said while turning to leave.

The Pharaoh sighed as he got up. “I'll see you later than.” He said. “Try not to reek havoc Mana.”

“What's that suppose to mean?!”

“Just stay out of trouble.”

“Fine.”

She chuckled. “You two act like a bickering couple.” The three laughed at this.

“I'll see later.” He said taking one last look at the young girl. `I'll have to find a temporary name for you.' With that thought him mind, he followed his priests out the door.

“So…” Mana said. “You think you can walk?”

`Everything carries me
Irresistibly to you, like the wind
Everything connects me
Irresistibly to you, I feel it

Like the day returning after night
And it's always sunny after rain
Like a bird returning to its nest
That with my love, I go too

Everything carries me
Irresistibly to you, in that instant
Everything connects me
Irresistibly to you, I feel it

Like the sea hitting the rocks
Obstinately without ever ceasing
By misfortune we are always hitting
But love alone can save us

Like pleasure after tears
After winter returns the flower weather
At the moment where we believe that all has died
Love returns with a great victory
