Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ The Shadow of the Past; The Light of the Future ❯ Heba ( Chapter 11 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Oh my god!! It's been too long!! *in a haste*

Bakura: Oh Ra, what took you this time?!

I was working on my homework! And my brother forgot to bring my book!

Marik: *??* And why should it be-

Because I didn't have it with me and my mom was in a hurry to get me to my dad's house.

Bakura: Her parents divorced.

*sigh* The main thing is that I'm back. I'm not dead, much to these two maniacs demise…

Marik: Then who else will we bother?

What about Atem?

Bakura: Not so much fun. So, any other information you would like the other people will like to know?

Ch. 11: Heba
The sun was high up into the sky when the Pharaoh and the priests started dueling each other, well, more like the Pharaoh watching the priests. But his mind was somewhere else.

“Pharaoh?”

“Huh?” He looked at Siamun.

“What's on your mind?” He asked.

“I was thinking about the girl.”

“Hmm…?” Siamun eyed the other with a smirk.

“What?”

“Are you interested in that young miss?”

The young ruler was wide eyed. “Siamun, I was thinking of a name for her, since she doesn't remember hers!”

Siamun backed up. “Forgive me, Great Pharaoh, I should've come to such conclusions.”

The Pharaoh sighed. “But, I do admit, ever since I saw her… I couldn't get her out of my mind.”

“Sounds like you're experiencing your first crush.”

He definitely blushed upon hearing that. “How would you know?”

“You said that you couldn't get her out of your mind, correct?”

“Yes, but I doubt that it's a crush.”

“Very well...” Siamun said with a sigh.

“Wait! We can't—“

They heard Mana's voice when the girl quickly entered through the door. She stopped when she saw the room.

“Hey you! You're not allowed in here!” The guard said, but the girl completely ignored him and just stared awestruck at the monsters that were fighting just moments ago.

“Hey come on!” Mana said as she grabbed the other girls arm. “We're not allowed to be here.”

“Mana!” The Pharaoh called.

“Y-Yes.”

“Why were you over on this wing, you know well that you're not suppose to be here.”

“I—“ Mana was about to say something when the other girl cut in.

“It's not her fault! I want to play a game and as we were, she tried to warn me, but… I was so caught up with the game, I didn't listen to her. So it's my fault!” She said, not once making eye contact with the young ruler.

The Pharaoh had an idea. “So you like games?”

The girl still didn't look up. “Yes, but I really don't know why.”

“Well, I'll make a deal with you.”

That made her look up. “A deal?”

He nodded as he got up and walked towards her. “I have a few games I haven't played in a long time, and I thought that, if you're able to give me a really good honest round, I'll forgive you and Mana for being here. But, if I'm disappointed or I noticed something that I don't find that's approvable, than both of you will be punished… I'm afraid.” He said, nearly kicking himself mentally for saying such a cruel word. “Do we have a deal?”

The girl blinked. “Alright, but…” She said. “If I do happen to give you the worst game of your life, I'll take mine and Mana's punishments.”

The young ruler was surprised to hear this as much as everyone else.

“Are you crazy!” Mana said.

The girl smiled. “Maybe I am, or I'm just stupid.”

The Pharaoh remembered when she said something along those lines.

^Flashback^
“Why?” He asked her, but she didn't look up at him. When she didn't answer, he lifted her head to look at her. “Well?” He pressed.

She smiled as she answered. “Because I've always been taught that to never turn your back on what you believe is right, either that, or I'm just out of my mind.”
^End of Flashback^

He sighed. “Very well…” He said as he walked towards the door, the girl and the priests followed along side him. When they reached to his room, he let her in first and told everyone to stay out until further notice. Once the door was closed, he went to a hidden chest and opened it. “You may choose first.” He told her as she went up and looked through the chest.

“Oh my gosh!” She said. “You have so many!”

He scratched his head. “Yes, everyone except my father and Siamun said I should get rid of them.”

“Why?”

“They think it's a distraction from becoming a pharaoh and such.”

“That's not true!” She said. “Games are very great to have!” She grabbed one. “Like this one!” It looked like a rectangular checker board. “I could tell this game takes a lot of strategy and thinking what your opponents moves are going to be.”

He was impressed.

“And that kind of game will be very useful in times of battle or understanding a person.”

“Very good.” He said. I'm glad to know that you know the hidden ability of the strategy games.”

She blushed. “Can we play this first?”

“Of course…” He said. “I'll go over the rules with you.”

“That would be helpful.” They laughed as they set up the game. “So, what's the game called?”

“This game is called Senet.”

“Senet?”

“Yes, now, here are the rules…” He explained the rules and they played. He was impressed on how fast she quickly learns and was really close to beat him. “Amazing! You were very close to beating me.”

“Yeah, but the most important thing is having fun!” She said, her eyes sparkled more than before they played.

“Want to play another?”

“Don't you have duties to attend to?” She asked.

“No, not really. Why?”

“Oh! I didn't want to cause any trouble and I don't want to hold you back on your responsibilities.”

He smiled. “You're very thoughtful.” He said making her blush. “How about this… We play two more games and call it, deal?”

“Deal!” She said as they played Scarab and Jackals and Dogs before coming out of the room, laughing.

“I believe it's safe to say that both of you are forgiven.” Siamun said.

Mana sighed in relief.

“Pharaoh…” Mahado said.

“Yes?” The Pharaoh said.

“Uh… never mind.”

“If there's some work that needs to be done, I'm here now.”

“Well…” Mahado scratched his head as he looked over a Seth, who was carrying more than an armful of scrolls.

“That's… a lot of work…”

“I'm so sorry.” She said.

“Don't apologize, I was the one who set up this deal.”

“True, but now you got so much work to do.”

“Don't be so gloom by this, I had a great time playing games with you. Hell, you're closer to beating my than Seth did in a ten fold.”

“What!?” Seth said nearly dropping the scrolls. “There's no way that a memory wiped girl could be better than me!!” He shoved the scrolls to Mahado. “I want to see for myself how she plays.”

The Pharaoh sighed. `Not again.' He thought as he looked at the girl. “What do you think?”

“Well, I guess it would be okay. Just to get it out of the way for you, Seth.”

Seth smirked. “You're pretty smart for someone who doesn't have a memory.”

“Seth!” The Pharaoh called, almost giving a warning.

“I'll play three games with you, but you've got to stop pointing out my lack of memory. It just doesn't suit you nor does it show that you're a priest, but an imposter.”

Seth was taken aback by this.

“Seth, I know you see me as an outsider and therefore I could be some kind of spy for an opposing country. But I also see that you want to trust me, but the moral saying of being safe than sorry rings in your head, reminding you that your duty is to protect the Pharaoh and Egypt, and I respect that.” She smiled. “But when we play our game, I would like it if you drop those for a moment and see me as only a regular opponent, not a foreign enemy.”

Everyone surprised to hear such words. Seth snapped out of his shock quickly. “Very well, I'll stop putting you down until I know who you really are.” He glared at her.

She stilled smiled as she stepped aside to let him in before joining. When the door closed, everyone was still shocked.

“Wow…” Mana said.

“If that's one of the reason's why the gods choose to spare her life…” Shada said. “We're definitely dealing with something here.”

“I agree.” Kalim said.

“She's definitely not like most girls her age.” Mahado said.

“What's that suppose to mean?!” Mana said, a bit ticked off.

“I see what you mean.” Akhenaden said blankly.

“Hey!”

As that went on, the Pharaoh was deep in thought. `She's only been here for a half a day, and yet she has knowledge that even baffles me.' He remembers seeing her the very first time.

^Flashback^
He was heading to his throne room while Siamun chatted about something he didn't care to listen. He heard children down at the court yard and became curious out of boredom. He only took a glimpse when he felt that time stopped. Down with the children, who were calling her a goddess, was the most amazing person he'd ever saw. When she looked up, he felt the world disappear and only he and the girl existed, but only a moment when she looked away and Siamun was pushing him along.

He headed to the throne room where he was told that a group of dancers have traveled a long way to perform for him. He knew traveling performers usually do this to get supplies for their group, but he didn't expect to be given a dancer that was just founded by the group. Normally he would decline, but he was curious and wondered if the girl she saw was part of the performance. He sat through many dances, many of them he saw as a child. It wasn't new, but he still applauded to their hard work. It was time for the last performance, and he completely forgot how to breathe for a minute.

She walked out with such grace and held her head respectfully down. When she reached the center of the room, she raised her arms and was in a starting position. When the music started, he couldn't keep his eyes off of her. The way she reacted to the music changes were amazing and he noticed her face turned from relaxed to tensed, and back to relax. He seen many dances, but this one had feeling, more understanding to what the dance represents. The dances he saw were mimics with additions and they always smile. But she didn't smile while she danced, oh no… she was completely focused on getting the dance down to the last note, not of that show off nonsense. When the dance ended, he saw that she bowed like a semi-royal.

“Great Pharaoh?” Siamun whispered. “Do you have anything to say?”

“I-I…” It was completely unexpected for him.

“I don't believe it either.” His vizier said. “It's a great honor to have her stay with us.”

When the elder said that, he felt so happy for whatever reason. “Would you go up to her and greet her.”

“Me my king?”

“Her performance might be overwhelming, especially in front of me…”

“Very well.” The elder said as he walked towards the girl.

He watched as both of the talked until he heard her laugh. He mentioned his guard and ordered him to go over and wait to be noticed and escort the young dancer to her room. “And also, tell her that I would like to speak with her in the morning.” His guard quickly went over and waited till was noticed. He watched as the girl seemed to be deep in thought about something. Before he could ponder, another guard came running up.

“My Pharaoh, shall we proceed with the court?”

“Very well.” He said, looking very serious. When Siamun came up he told him he never expected.

“She's seventeen, my king. Gods she looks like twelve. She acts so proper and is so polite, very lady like.”

“That's good to know.” He said, as he watched the court put trial to an unfortunate soul. `I'm glad she's not here to witness this.'
^End of Flashback^

`Even then, she didn't seem to have hidden knowledge.' He thought. `But I guess, that's the mystery of her.' He sighed as he looked at the scroll he had been staring for the pass hour. Just than, Seth entered with a disbelieved look. “Good evening Seth.” He said.

“Evening Pharaoh.” Seth said with a huge sigh.

“What's wrong?”

“Looks like you're not the only game master in this palace.”

“Really now.” The Pharaoh said.

“Yes…” Seth said. “And as much as I hate to say it, but she's really good, very close to your level.”

The Pharaoh blinked.

“I'm pretty surprised myself.” Seth said. “I'm off to retire.”

“See you when Ra reborns.” The Pharaoh said the other exited the room. “I should retire as well.” He said as he gathered the scrolls he wasn't finished with and headed to his room. When he was about to enter, he heard steps coming from the corner. “Who's there?” He asked.

“Pharaoh?” The girl said as she poked her head from the corner.

“Hello there.” He said with a smile. “Why are you up?”

She blushed as she came around the corner and shyly walked up to him. “I couldn't sleep.”

“Really? May I ask why?”

“I… I don't really know…” She said as she fiddled with her necklace. “I just felt so scared… like something is going to come out of the shadows and take me away.”

The young ruler bent down to her eye level. “Would you like to stay with me?”

She blushed deeply at that. “I didn't mean to put you on the spot like this! You don't have to do this! I-I—“

“Need to calm down, get into my room and settle yourself in bed.” He said as he opened the door and let her in.

“Is it alright with you? I could just go back—“

“Heba.” He cut her off.

“Heba?”

He nodded. “I thought that, since you're unable to remember your own name at the moment, I could give you a temporary name. So, what do you think?”

“Heba…” She tested the name out. “It means game, isn't?”

“Yes.” He said. “You like it? I could find an—“

“Oh no! Heba's fine.” She said smiling. “It's nice to have a name, even if it's until I get my memory back.”

“That settles it… from this point on, you're known as Heba.”

“Yeah!” She said happily before a yawn escaped.

“I believe its time to go to bed.” The Pharaoh said as he placed the scrolls down on his desk.

“Are you sure it's okay?” She asked.

“Yes, you've had a big day.”

She yawned and rubbed her eyes.

“See, it's catching up to you.”

She smiled. “You're really kind.” She said.

“How so?”

“You always think of others before yourself. And I could tell by looking into your eyes.”

The young ruler blinked.

“Sorry, that sounded really stupid.”

“No, no, it doesn't.” He said. “It's your first day here, even with the lack of your past, you're able to surprise all of us with your words and how you could tell a person.”

She blushed. “I guess you expected a toddler minded girl, huh?”

“Well, it could have been worse.”

“Like how?”

“Like…” He thought about how to answer the question. “Hm… You could've had your memory, but you didn't trust anyone, or you could've been a soulless vessel.”

She nodded. “I rather be memory less than be soulless.”

He smiled as he yawned. “Now you got me started.”

She giggled. “I'm sorry.”

“You really need to stop apologizing so much.”

“Sor—“ She started to say than giggled before looking around the room.

He knew the question and responded. “You can sleep on my bed.”

“But where—“

“The bed is enough to fit five people in.” He said as he ruffled her hair. “Unless you have a problem with that?”

“No, not really.”

He chuckled. “Well than, I'll let you change into some night gown and we'll get to bed.” He looked at her outfit. “Speaking of which, I have to tell the stem stresses to make you a few outfits.

She blushed. “Yeah, I guess I can't really go around with this for another day straight.”

He smiled as he looked through his closet and found one of his old clothes that would do. “Here, you can have this as a night gown.” He handed it to her. “I have things to work on, so I'll give you some space.” He walked over to the desk and sat down before opening the first scroll as two arms embraced him.

“Thank you Pharaoh…” She said. “I don't know how to repay you.”

He was stiff, not expecting to have this kind of act towards him. He absent mindedly lifted his hand to place it over her hand when she moved to head to bed. “You're welcome, and… sweet dreams, Heba.”

Feeling sad and lonely
Cause I can't find you
Call your telephone
Ad there's never no answer
Said you love me
Kissed me
We were in heaven
Said I'm sorry
Love you, want you forever

Every night I look at the sky
Call your name
And wonder where you are
Every night I look at the sky
Baby, miss you
Won't you come back
